Create a group stage using your seeding groups. Set up Fixture Plan Rules on the Group Settings page. Group 0 and Group 0, 3 teams, 1 time. Group 0 and Group 1, 3 teams, 1 time. Group 1 and Group 1, 3 teams, 1 time.

That will tell each time to play 3 teams from their group once and 3 teams from the other group once for 6 total games. Transfer those results, points etc. over to the league stage and have the league stage itself generate no fixtures of it's own.

You can have a look at the Brazilian Sao Paulo State Championship for an example of something similar. Theirs has teams play every team in all other groups and none in their own, then transfers the standings to the league stage. Something similar, but changed to 3 from each would be what you want.

Thanks for your help, definitely got me away from a potential rabbit hole!

After a bit of tinkering I’ve been able to set a league system up in the form needed, having some issues with passing results through to the league stage but I’ll look more into that tomorrow.

  2. So this may seem quite niche, and it is, but I’m trying to learn how to set up a competition with a Swiss system format like the CL group stages. The U21 PL uses something similar in game so I’ve been experimenting with that.

I’ve been able to reduce the league down to 10 teams, with 2 ‘seeding’ groups: 5 U21 teams from the PL, 5 from the Championship and have made the league season be 6 fixtures long. However where I’m struggling is being able to have each team play 3 teams from each ‘seeding group’ to make up their 6 fixtures. Everything else has remained the same.

Leaving it by default gives some teams this layout but others have 4 from one and 2 from the other group. I can’t see an option that stands out as having the ability to force this constraint within the league rules, is there a way of setting this up so this is the case? If not would it be possible to use the custom fixture list section to do that manually? (wouldn’t mind being directed to an explainer on that as I’ve not really got how it works nor can find a guide on the forums)

Hope that was clear enough, I can post the editor data file/screenshots I’ve been using tomorrow if needed. Also if this setup isn’t mathematically possible let me know as it’s not that easy to find info on generating fixtures for this format, and I’m not 100% sure if it can actually be done.

    Thanks!
