  1. I'm never sure whether or not to set opposition instructions, such as show onto weaker foot etc.  I usually ask the assistant manager to set them, but to be honest they never really seem to make a difference anyway.  Are there any times I should use them, and if so do I need to use them on a lot of opposition players like the assistant manager usually suggests?  I often have a feeling that using the assistant manager's suggestions, it's just gonna bring my players out of position constantly considering he tends to suggest instructions on almost every opposition player.

On the other hand I don't really want to completely ignore the opposition instructions as that may be even worse, but I'm really not sure when to use them, which specific ones to use, and on which players.

    Any help/tips would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. I'm about to start a new game as Spurs, but Kane isn't really the kind of player that'll fit my tactics.  Yes, he'll score loads of goals, but I prefer a striker that is really fast and makes a lot of runs in behind which I'm guessing Kane will rarely do.  I'm not sure whether to sell him straight away or keep him for the first season and see if he does well, which should increase his transfer worth.  Then again with him being 29, by the time the season's over he'll be 30 and his worth may drop dramatically even if he's been playing well.

Click on the trophy icon on the left hand side, depending on the size of your screen it might be labelled Competitions. Click on the tournament you want to see. On the bottom right hand corner there should be stats such as goals, average rating, clean sheets etc. Click on the player stats arrow and see more.

For leagues your team doesn't play in, type the country or the first part of the name (Italian or Champions) in the search bar at the top and find the league in the results. (Don't hit enter). From there, same goes with finding the stats

As for your tactical question, I think it can. Combined with the right roles and Tempo I think pass into space is a good tool against certain teams. In a save I have the combo with Lazio (Higher Tempo as well), and that leads to nice buildup with balls in behind their line finding space

Great, thank you.  Just out of curiosity, if I don't have "Pass into space" enabled, will they still pass into space from time to time anyway or will they just not bother at all?  I don't really want to force it and keep losing the ball by attempting to pass into space, but if the option is on I'd rather my team took the opportunity instead of ignoring it just because I didn't have the option activated.

I have had success in previous years using both "much shorter passing" and "pass into space" at the same time, and on my first little save this year I won the world cup with England using a tactic that had both (Although England seem very OP this year so I wouldn't read too much into that)

Its hard to answer your question accurately though as you cannot look at any instruction/selection of instructions through a singular prism without taking into account the rest of the tactic. If you are looking to keep control of the ball then something is clearly going wrong averaging 30% possession and so I would definitely switch off "pass into space" until you figure out a way to keep hold of the ball better as this instruction leads to more "risky" passes

The 4-3-3 is a very good shape for keeping hold of the ball so there is nothing wrong with your formation but the rest of your player roles and instructions need looking at (unless you are one of the worst teams in your league in terms of the quality of your players, in which case you can expect to go without the ball for long periods of a game)

The two things that spring to mind first are your Tempo and your Defensive instructions - especially your Defensive Line and pressing

If you are instructing your players to play at a very high tempo they will naturally lose the ball more often and keep hold of it for smaller periods of time

If you are instructing your team to sit deep and be passive when out of possession then your possession stats will naturally drop as you are allowing the opponent more time and space on the ball and encouraging them to keep it for longer

Could you post your full tactic with player roles and all instructions? It would be more helpful to see the entire picture

Okay so this is the first time I've played FM in years, but "used" to be really good at it, so I've probably got a lot to catch up on.

I'm playing as Spurs using a 4231 DM Wide formation.  Roles as as follows:

    ST - Advanced Forward (Attack)

    Wingers - Inside Forward (Attack)

    CAM - Advanced Playmaker (Support)

CDM 1 - Defensive Midfielder (Support)

CDM 2 - Defensive Midfielder (Defend)

    Fullbacks - Fullback (Automatic)

    CBs - Central Defender (Defend)

I've not really messed about too much with the width or anything like that and kept everything as default/balanced.  I tried the pass into space and shorter passing, but didn't really seem to make any difference so I just reverted back to balanced.

  5. I've been having a lot of trouble recently with keeping possession and often end games with around 30% possession or so.  So I figured it may be worth switching to very short passing so that I can keep the ball better.  Whether this is the right option or not, I don't know.

Anyway, I run 433 and also want my wingers to 'get in behind' so I've turned on the 'pass into space' option in the hopes that it'll make my wingers make runs past the opposition's back line.  The thing I've been wondering though is will it work with having my team setup for much shorter passing, as I'm assuming any ball played in behind would probably not count as a "short" pass and would be more kind of direct and long.  So will the 'pass into space' and 'much shorter passing' options cancel each other out or are they okay to run at the same time?

    Thanks.

  6. I've just started a new save as Inter Milan and have around 50 million in transfer budget after offloading some dead weight worth of players & freeing up contracts etc.  I desperately need a left footed right winger, who would ideally be able to play as an inside forward, although I suppose I could train him to do that.  The most important thing really is the left foot, 15+ pace/acceleration, and decent dribbling.

Can you guys recommend me anybody?  Perhaps even a youngster who may not be great right now, but will be able to fit into the first team and gradually improve?

    Thanks.

  7. I've just bought the game, and haven't played FM since 2015 so I'm a bit behind the curve at the moment.  When setting up my manager, I'm probably gonna make him an ex pro so he gets the full stats benefit.  The only thing is, where should I put these stats?

I'm guessing I shouldn't put any into fitness & goalkeeping as I'll have proper staff to train my squad in that kind of thing, but what's actually required in order to not mess things up?  Do I even need to put any points into the training side of things if I'm gonna have other staff members available for that?  Should I just put everything into mental attributes such as motivation, man management, etc?

    That's how you download items.

I just click Subscribe and then restart the game?  Also, do I only need to download the league I want to start the game as, or do I need to download every single league in order to get them in the game?  I'll be buying the game when my trial runs out, but I don't get paid for another week and I'm short on cash right now so I have to wait.

  9. Well that sucks.  Doesn't say anything about that on the Demo page.  Here's what it says...

Get your foot on the management ladder with the fully-playable, free demo. You’ll get six in-game months to find your feet in football management, which is approximately 5-10 hours game play. Progress made in the demo can be carried forward.

Nevermind, thanks.  The thing is, I've just quit FIFA Ultimate Team and uninstalled the game, as the amount of ridiculous stuff going on in game just wasn't worth the hassle.  Unfortunately I'm now regretting it, as I need my football fix (especially with this Virus stuff going on).  I can't go back to the gym as I deleted my team, and would have to start from scratch, which at this point in the game isn't an option due to the high rated teams I'd have to face.  I figured FM would be a decent alternative.  Is it as addictive as it always was?  That's not a bad thing for me personally.  I just need something to hold my attention for 3-4 months until the new FIFA is out really.

  10. I just downloaded the FM 2020 demo on PC, and made my manager.  Now it's taken me to the main menu, and there's not even an option to start a new game.  There's just 2 quick start buttons for England or Germany.  I don't wanna play either of those leagues though.  Did I do something wrong?  Also, if I click the "What's new in FM20" button, I get an option saying "Start new game" but when I click it it doesn't even do anything.
