Havent played last week, so sory for no update. So the initial problem of wing backs not closing down is fixed. The defensive width forced them to be closer to CBs and the more urgent closing down forced the MCs to close down the wingers. Very happy with the defending of the flanks now

OK I know, I have many TIs, I will try to reduce them, I promise About the roles and duties... You're probably meaning the front 3 all on attack right? Or any other role/duty that is not optimal?

One of the issues you may have is that you are set to defend narrower.. if you were a wingback, and your coach told you that you had to defend narrower, wouldn't you think that the zone you are defending is in the box near the net and not out wide? You are telling your players not to engage out wide and let the other team send crosses in so you can defeat them in the air. Will this instruction definitely solve your problem? I am not sure, you can let us know if removing most of your instructions as well as defend narrower will improve the behavior of your wing back. 

 

It would also really help the people on this site if you took a screenshot of your players roles as well, as in the main tactic screen. Hopefully we can help get this problem solved for you.

Sounds logical, will try what happens if I set the def width to standard/wide. After going through my instructions I set the counterpress option, but have much lower line of engagement and standard def line. I gues thats conflicting?

If you lower that team instruction to "slightly more urgent", right in the middle, you can give individual instruction to each player on how much you want them to close down.

Maybe you could give the player instruction to your Wb's to mark tightly or mark opponents wingers they would close down more, I'm not sure.

Then again, player roles will most likely affect it as well.

Tnx for the reply. Yeah I instructed them to tight mark also. I saw slight improvement in the closing down by doing this. It just might be the high closing down of my team in general. Will test this in next game and report back.

Hello

I have been a long time player of Football Manager (CM days). Recently I bought a copy of FM 19 (last one I played was FM 17). LOVE the new tactical center. So much advanced and diferent then the old one. So I set up my save as FC Andorra in the Spanish Lower Leagues. I use the 3-4-1-2 with wing backs (the AI calls it 5-2-1-2). OK I'm dominating and will win the league, but...

The thing that bother's me is, that my wing backs dont close down enough. Instead of engaging the wingers they retreat and guard the space. So my CM's close down the wingers and leave space infront of my goal. I set them to close down more, but the same thing. My set up is like this:

 

Is this behavior of Wing backs coded in the match engine or are my settings preventing them to close down more?
