Lack of Support for AI Strikers

In both my Arsenal & Schalke saves, I've noticed that the AI managers very rarely support their lone strikers. The strikers are always given an attack duty, midfield players are almost never given an attack duty and fullbacks are typically split between defense and support duties. The only time I remember that the AI had the striker on a support duty and midfielders with attack duties for a majority of the match was a Champions League match against PSG which I lost 2-1 in a tight game. I could understand some teams attempting this to nick a point, but I'm not sure it makes sense with Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea. Is anybody else noticing this?
