Suspensions?

I have a quick question regarding suspensions and I'm not sure whether it's a data issue or just a case of my ignorance of certain rules.

In this case I am playing as Arsenal and choosing to manage the pre-season games personally.

Squillaci, Sagna, Clichy and Diaby are all unavailable for any friendly due to being suspended.

Given that these suspensions are not even related to the English competitions - Banned for one International match (misconduct) - why are they unavailable to me for friendlies?

Surely, even if the suspension did branch across in to friendly games, the single game suspension would be cleared after the first friendly and I would then be able to play them in the following friendlies.

Currently they're locked out from selection until after my first league game. *Is Confused*
