Click on transfers & contract when on the players page and click mutual termination/release on a free

FYI, try to get him to accept a mutual termination rather than eating his whole deal, make him angry, ie, transfer list him, tell the press he is rubbish, etc. Once you get the situation icon and he is good and mad, he is more likely to accept a mutual termination. Not a guarantee though, but I like to at least tell the world he stinks and maybe being on the transfer list will net you something. This sometimes even happens with players out of contract, at least in previous versions. I was able to get a team to give me cash or future fees based on performance when they could have snagged my player for free. I rarely just dump a guy unless absolutely necessary, ie, causing unrest in the back, etc.
