A Winger and Mezzala is a good combination. While the Winger will occasionally drift into the half-spaces, he doesn't naturally occupy them. The Inside Forward, on the other hand, has an inclination to cut inside with the ball, into the path of the Mezzala. This combination will prevent the Winger being isolated out wide and will give him a safer passing option if the cross isn't available.  Personally, I wouldn't play a Mezzala with an Inside Forward.
