Andrea Barzagli as usual looks awesome, and I've had a £13m offer for him accepted. I tried getting Quaresma to help Babel add some real quality to the wings, but Porto are stubbornly rejecting everything so I'll have to move on. Voronin - Liedson Babel - Benayoun - Gerrard Mascherano Aurelio - Carragher - Bordon - Finnen Reina Bordon I bought, though I would have prefered to get Garay, mainly because I like having my defenders as my main free kick takers. Liedson is a striker I'm trying out, not too bad, but possibly too expensive. Danny Haynes is probably my favourite strike to buy, can usually get him for under 2m and does really well. So far after 8 games I have 6 wins and 2 draws, +10 GD. Defence is not as solid as I would like though having conceded 5 so far. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I did use the 50% of next sale and $x after 30 games...also got Owen and Alves, and Adriano on loan. I'm right on the limit of my wage budget and have maybe 5 pounds left for transfers. Pennant immediately became unhappy so I shipped him off. Was not expecting to get both Adriano and Owen, but had planned to offload Kuyt initially. However, he's been on fire! So now I have Kuyt, Owen, Torres and Adriano. ( offloaded Crouch, Voronin, Leto, Pennant...) I'd started playing an expansive 4-3-3 since I have a wealth of central midfielders and strikers, and it's been working really well. When Babel plays he's been electric. Fan favorite already. So now fans are unsure about my signing of Quaresma and Owen ( thought they'd love that!! ), and are willing to give Adriano a little more time. All the while Torres, Kuyt and Babel are tearing the place up and making my signings look unneccessary. I think when I start the full version of the game I'll wait a while before jumping straight into the transfer market. Now Pepe Reina is having problems with Mascherano. Anyone else seeing this? I really don't want to lose either of these players. Summary: Managed to sign Adriano, Owen, Quaresma and Alves. Only Alves can get a place. Fans think I'm a moron. Team fighting internally. I always found that really unrealistic. Good players are normally in demand. I've not tried to sell anyone on the demo so far but it does seem easier from what people are posting. The next 12 months will be the whiskey & cigarette fuelled emotional rollercoaster that is Football Manager 2008. I will be starting a new game with Liverpool obviously. IanZG2 Posted October 18, 2007 Share Posted October 18, 2007 I started the Liverpool game on FM08, must say I'm disappointed with the transfer budget, only 8 mil, increased to 14 with wage cuts, so that doesn't leave with a lot. I don't want to sell Harry because I couldn't get any fair money and I don't want to sell him for scrap. Also Yossi and Andriy won't leave until I give them at least half a season to show off. 2 Friendlies played: AB 0 - 2 Liverpool Torres (1 out of 8 shots), Xabi Alonso Randers (I can't recall, but some Danish club) 1 - 3 Liverpool Torres, Kuyt (pen), Voronin The first game was great, over 20 shots and I have to be happy, but the second one they had as many shots as we did. Based on my demo experiences, this is what I'll be doing: Bringing Pako back as assistant. It may be good if you start with a good rep ( ex-international status ) to attract good coaches? I did this and he agreed immediately, whereas others seemed to have problems. I had to fire Ablett before I could hire him. Telling the board I'm shooting for the title only got me from 8 to 10 million sterling. I was able to up that to 20+ by adjusting the wages. Board expectations are for a top two finish. I may check what I can get by adjusting in future instead of immediately raising expectations. I will not be purchasing or selling players until I've settled on my tactics. I've been playing puds 433 in the demo and it's immense. Babel and Kuyt out wide are excellent on this, my two top rated players. However, I made the mistake of bringing in Adriano, Quaresma and Owen, none of whom fit. I bought them simply because I could. I will adapt a version of puds 433 to my team and create a suite of defensive / counter attacking tacics that I can use with the same groups of players. I'll get rid of those who do not fit / are not adaptable but give most until January to prove themselves. I will not be buying Owen thinking it'll keep my fans happy. Also it says in the records our highest transfer was Cisse at 14m and not Torres and Mascherano has scored for Argentina irl but hasnt in game and Lucas has been capped by Brazil irl also and after i bought Quaresma for 15m it said 27m was a new record high transfer for a season beating the previous record of 10m which cant be right.. interesting! I am currently undefeated but I've only just played my first premiership match (beat Westham 3-2). I am trying to keep the current squad until I know the best buys for new game. I usually do whole sale changes but decided to focus on the creating a good tactic. However, I have noticed that there are 2 positions that need to be filled; backup DC and AMC. Playing a 442 with the a MC arrow to AMC and the other MC to DMC. I use the DMC as a playmaker and it creates alot of space for him. I have been using either Alonso, Masherano and Lucas as the DMC. This leaves Sissoko. I can't bring myself to sell him but he doesn't fit into the playmaker role (poor passing and creative stat). So I got creative and I am retraining Sissoko as a DC with some success. Any views to sissoko as DC? I have brough Rafael Van Der Vaart for AMC backup for £12m. I got good confidence for buying him too but not had a chance to play him at AMC yet (he only arrive for the first match of the season) but played well as a sub at ML. The guy is awsome, also my u-18s are all coming along nicely Kacaniklic, Daniel Ayala, Pacheco, David Amoo, Sean Highdale are all going to be future stars for me. I just love this game!
