Playmaker and Target man

Recommended Posts

The simple answer is.....it depends.

It comes down to what players you have, and how you want your team to play. Generally, though not always, better teams are more likely to use a playmaker, while weaker teams use target men, though there are plenty who use neither. Also, if you have one player who's clearly the best player in your team, then it's very useful to make him TM/PM so he gets the chance to use the ball as much as possible (eg Fabregas at Arsenal)

Do you have a midfielder (DM, MC, AMC) who has high passing, creativity and decisions, that you want to be the focus of your game? Make him the playmaker

Do you have a big tall strong forward who you want to win headers and knock the ball down for his teammates? Make him a "ball to head" target man

Do you have a really fast striker you want to get in behind the defense all the time? Make him a run onto ball target man.

Do you want to play a mixed style of football, not focusing on any one person? Don't use either.
