2037 Club World Cup Game 5

7f85947b80a7a41bb1cf9a8e4ddaae1a.png

lot closer than it should have been. Two shots, with nothing on target for Flamengo compared to our ten on target, all good chances. We gave them a lot of the ball, 66% in total, but that played into our hands as it always does.

Third place in our first ever Club World Cup, just seventeen years after we were a tiny Serie C side is good progress. Hopefully we'll be back in four years, even stronger!

A really good deal for Elias, who should develop really well with the first team football Dortmund will offer.

Antonio has his second loan in the calendar year and he'll be staying in Spain this time. I do feel slightly for him, and Elias above him. Neither are quite the level of proper first team Barca players but were far too good for us and in great form, which earned them the moves.

I hope that both can find solid first team football and achieve their true potential.

Clearly, Corinthians have a plan to sign all of my rotational players so I am left too short to put out a squad. Nathan is solid but not worth even half of that amount!

That face is incredible! CM needs to be hired by SI ASAP!

Another injury...

Maybe I'm just paying more attention to it?

However - this is his injury list in the past two years:

7e000300f5d6c2446f981168620e1456.png

Both of his major injuries he has suffered in his career have come in this time, 29% of his moderate injuries  and 40% of his minor injuries. The majority of these are match injuries so I won't attribute any blame on the fact I handed training over to my assistant back in 2036. I just hope he isn't becoming that luxury made-of-glass player. He is 535 competitive games into his professional career though, which is a lot for a 26 year old!

The profitable academy...

Below is a list of all the academy players I have sold in this save. I had no idea just how much I'd raised from these sales and I want to try and break the £500m barrier over the next couple of years.

I did have Argentina for a while but no, nothing else. A little bit of a shame that I'm beating 'grey players' each week but in a season literally full of games, I'll take this one as a victory!

I loaded all top division South American players in my save and it's just as uneven. Maybe it's better if you load the leagues.

Maybe so but I'll happily take the trade off for a bit more continental success against the struggles I'm having in the league and the whole idea of this save - to develop the youth at the club!

2037 mid-point review

610ea9f9f8a2448006ab6383f3b4aff4.png

I think this could be our year.

After a couple of early defeats, we have gone from strength to strength and are blowing teams away and are currently on a 12 game winning streak. Cabral leads the scoring with 12 (41 in all competitions this season) but Joao Fernando, Antonio Jose, Joao Francisco and Luis Henrique are all in double figures for the year too.

My one concern is injuries. We have a much smaller squad than I'd actually want and maybe this is down to me allowing so many sales. The knock one of that is more games for each player and, as such, more chance of injury. I'm now trying to address that with a lot of squad rotation (we are, at this point, 20th in terms of players used in this league season - with only 21 [12 behind Ceara in 1st place]) so this is a point of interest, especially with the gap we've now built.

---

Elsewhere, we overcame Boca 4-2 on aggregate, despite losing the away leg and are currently sat in a comfortable 3-1 first leg lead over Palmeiras in the quarter finals of the Liberdatores. We are tied 1-1 after the first leg of the Copa do Brasil semi final too, against Cruzeiro and now must travel to the Mineirao and win.

Excited for my youth intake next month!

Progress (just)

c624b04f70b1b5e8703624d21b5e1174.png

Despite being 3-1 up from the first leg, we found ourselves 2-0 down and level on aggregate by the 51st minute and very much under the cosh from this Palmeiras side. Lorran Pereira Santos, in his 496th game, netted only his 15th goal from a header and that man, once again, Joao Fernando settled it. We play either Santos or Bragantino in the semi finals.

ArturHélder.

---

Just the two of real interest here in a group of, largely, poor personalities and determination levels. Artur looks really good and I think he's going to be the heir to the Edilson throne and, with the game reaching it's latter stages (still, there could be ten seasons left!) - I want to get him some game time as soon as I can. Hélder, with those piercing eyes, looks to be a proper finisher, although he has gaps in lots of other areas!

2037 Season Review

afb411744c7d71b942383b49adaab5e1.png

Our first ever Brasiliero title!

Despite a couple of shaky patches, we thoroughly deserve this title as, by far, the best team in the league this season. At one point, Santos had cut the gap to three points and Internacional were hot on our heels too, but, buoyed by the 5-0 whitewash over Piexe, we strolled through the remainder of the games and fully deserve this title!

---

774d32a24d5d5403079bf54e9c771e55.png

It was not all good news though as we failed to retain our Liberdatores title after a late defeat against Flamengo. We played our usual style and, to be fair, edged the game, but just lacked the clinical edge in front of goal.

---

5f3609f1271ddc5795008b96a3484113.png

Some fantastic performances all around and I think I got it right with player selection - using seven more reserve players towards the end of the season to keep the squad fresh. Breakthrough seasons were had for Romario Orlandelli and Ronaldao - although the latter is still very raw. I have made the decision to allow Cabral to return back to Chelsea a year early - he's been outstanding for us but a) I want to see what he can do in the Premier League and b) I want to push the development of more players at the club with Antonio Jose and Giovanni ready to step up.

A season hampered by injuries but I reckon that Joao is two good league campaigns and maybe three overall seasons away from breaking both of these records!

Last summer I asked the board to build a new stadium so I'm hoping that'll be named after me! Aside from that - nothing changes as we are a well oiled machine now and everything is in place. We'll move into another Carioca State with some extra players from the youth squads and go from there...

Congrats on winning the title! Shame about the Carioca tho.

Do wonder if you will be the name of the stadium. You can check via IGE if you have one if anyone else is eligible for that.

Thanks!

We also won the Carioca, just didn't top the league. which was great.

As for the stadium, I'd rather not look at the IGE and wait for the surprise - and, to be fair, I'd be happy with it being named after any of the club legends:

Thank you!

Got to align my goals to not only continue here but also continue for long enough to bridge the gap between now and the (delayed) FM21. COVID has really increased my game play and, in a normal 'two game year' calendar, I'd only be mid way through my second save at this point, knowing that talk of a beta would be coming in late September time...

Rare signing

First of all - he has the most majestic beard ever befitting a sixteen year old (although that may be my fault) and, despite being a product of Brazilian Serie B side Sao Bento, has chosen to represent Venezuela after being born in the town of La Grita, Venezuela and is, actually, named Jorge Caceres. A small fee of just £10k was enough to secure his services.

The other thing?

d8df3dd105f2294649671c2f385e4dd4.png

Yeah - he's insanely good for a 16 year old!

Let's ignore those attributes that don't take up much CA - Leadership, Aggression and Penalty Taking. Then we can look at his Tackling, Heading and Work Rate combined with that beastly long shot and then remember the fact that he's just 16.

Left is April 2037 and right is January 2038.

As SI say - development before the age of 18 is the fastest out of the whole career and, as I've made constant remarks to - I have found that positive personalities only enhance that. I don't have a starting screenshot but here is his overall growth since September 2036.

Record breakers?

I want to add a new challenge to my Carioca State play and that is to break the record for goals scored. The current record is 54, as seen below:

65f2fc5ab7faf11c8539773f88dd827a.png

That will include the 11 group stage games and two 'turn finals' as Flamengo won the league and both turns - giving a total of 13 games. It is possible to have a 14th game but it'd mean that the team would need to win the finals but not top the group stage or only win one of the two finals. I am aiming to beat a very competitive average of 4.15 goals per game (if I do it in 13 games) or 3.85 goals per game (if it takes 14)

This is our start with the first turn complete and the final coming soon:

47d1a72a7f4bceb801df8beab5621005.png

We currently sit at 4.67 goals per game but a turn one final against Flamengo will probably see that number drop and our scoring against the 'bigger' teams has been less than fantastic:

c7b7b40eab8dccc813153ad53c942000.png

Fortunately, we have only got Vasco to play in the second turn and the four other games are against Bangu, Duque, MAC and Maduereira - so there is potentially be 25+ goals there.

---

Two of my senior players have been largely the reason for these performances:

35f46b1a877377184535ed55fb54c67e.png

Geilton, from right back, has had a hand in sixteen goals in just six state games (he didn't score or assist in the Supercopa) and Joao Fernando has all of his goals in the State, too, as he looks to build a strong season after the last 18 months have been a struggle with injuries.

Interview

37d1659c85149a97ff3e5b66ae20506c.png

As a 'one club save' man, I've never been to an interview on FM. I don't want the job and I feel that I've built up enough trust with the board for them to not sack me for this, so felt like seeing what it was all about.

I quite like the interactions, actually.

What are the aims for the rest of the save? Would be interested to see your approach in developing all players in a country with less footballing pedigree.

Thank you!

Not entirely sure, to be fair. As I said - I'm a bit ahead of schedule in a 'normal' FM year but I'd like to achieve some kind of domination and certainly get a few more players some international recognition. After that, I really don't know!

Maybe a weird question, but how have you automated the cross and check pictogrammes at the colum Det - Pro - Amb?

It's just some conditional formatting.

There are some hidden cells - for example: I've put Determination in cell A1 - I'd put in a formula that said (and I can't remember exact) =IF(A1>15,"1") and then my conditional formatting would change the 1 value to a tick. Likewise, I'd do =IF(A1<5,"-1") to get a cross.

As for the personality - I had a list of ones, such as =IF(A3="model Professional","Model Citizen","1") etc and then used the formatting to display the tick.

I think it looks quite good!

A poor second turn with a league loss to Vasco saw us not qualify for the second turn final. However, a victory in the first turn gave us a final shot against Vasco in the Grand final - which we just about won!

The 42 goals in the group stage, along with the 2 in both finals we made means that we have not broken the record this year but it is something to keep trying to achieve!

At 29, I think he's finally given up hope of playing for Brazil so has changed his allegiance to what I can only assume is the country of his parents - Lebanon. He's automatically their best player, by far, and they have a few times coming up in September - so it'll be interesting if this graphical change has alerted the national team staff.

I love this kind of thing and I wish him the best at finally having a crack at international football.

Not much but it does mean that Antonio Carlos is reunited with Elias Custodio Santos, who were two thirds of my fantastic attacking midfield line up a few years back:

Dortmund are also managed by Brazilian Fernando Diniz so this might turn into a nice little link up to see if we can move a few other players on to them.

Then and now: My top 3 graduates

fc0d87ff416cced523aa32909a9a4bbc.png

126 is the number of players that the game classes as 'trained at Volta Redonda' and still active within their playing careers. However, I've been at the club for 18 seasons and, with 16 players through the intake each year - that total rises to 288 players that I have had the pleasure of working with.

When you look at any other academies, with exception to the likes of La Masia in it's (now long forgotten, by the club anyway,) heyday, the class of 92 and exclusive training areas such as Clairefontaine, it's hard to really pinpoint areas where continued excellence in the form of world class players being churned out has happened. Therefore, I'm still very much in the boat that I am very lucky to have produced four players (the three below plus Elias Custodio Santos) who have played for Brazil. A quick look at the last Brazil XI shows a huge bias towards players born in the state of Rio de Janeiro, where we play - but that area alone has 15 million people in and eleven clubs that play professionally in it's top tier at state level, plus many many below it. These top players are coming through at clubs all across the state, and nation of 210 thousand football mad people - it's still a huge ask to get a few players this good.

Here are my top three with screenshots when they first came through the academy, and now:

----

b6fc1f2bfa9fd869fba73d1d4b51e67c.png

Now at Chelsea, Cabral has developed into a really good striker. He's a physical presence and can find the net. His career has started with 105 league goals in 180 games and his international record has started very strongly. I hope that he will continue to shine and have a great career in Europe.

---

31b5b7d0d397070e8ded866c834ab469.png

20bd247c0d6b440df62bf177a33c8925.png

f83572f86afa082f2d6e52e93eddbe28.png

Joao was never the most physical player and I did take a gamble on playing him as a striker when he first came through the academy. We have worked really hard on making him a more natural finisher and 415 career goals to date really demonstrates that. He's one of the most consistent players I have ever managed and absolutely loves finding the net. A few injuries have slowed him down as he's entered his later twenties but there's definitely another five years left in him.

---

e38e5a9f3894ec7bc2d57d076297f91a.png

A bit of an unsung hero really, is Pacato. Capped only once but now a true ball player, after a really long period of time developing those attributes. Dominant in the air (despite average heading) and a great brain, which puts him a step ahead of the opposing forwards. He's already surpassed 450 career appearances for me and I hope for many more.

---

In a game that has been all about developing individual players, as per what I've understood the Brazilian methodology to be, we have really produced some fantastic players and this, like all my saves before this, will continue developing my FM playing style with each new game.
