Quite a surprise after the two years before, but great to see the board support you and allow the chance to bounce back. Really nice to have Hertha go down as having a massive derby in Bundesliga 2 will be exciting. Some big losses there that will be hard to overcome, but good luck. I'll be honest, I have no idea how or why I'm still in the job, but I'll take it . Looking forward to the derby, we need vengeance! Ryerson is the biggest loss, but at least it's only one player and not several and everyone else seems happy sticking around. Andersson left out of my choice as I just didn't see him being effective as a lone pressing-forward.
smp20
July - August 2022 Update Results 5 wins out of 6 in the 2.Bundesliga starting off a terrific campaign. We've been scoring a lot of goals which was our major issue last season. 2.Bundesliga Top of the league so far and Hertha lost their opening 4 games . Tactics Back to a more familiar tactic taken from previous saves. I wanted to create something different, but after relegation and a turbulent three seasons so far with ups and lots of downs I'm hoping our gegenpress 4-3-3 can bring about some consistency. The starting 11 here is our strongest 11, the weakest area being right back after Ryerson's departure. I will do full squad update at the halfway point

smp20
September - October 2022 Update Results A valiant effort in the cup against Leverkusen but they were just too much for us in the end. We're on a cracking unbeaten run in the league now and defending very well, only criticism maybe a few too many 0-0s but I'm not going to complaint too much after last seasons catastrophe. 2.Bundesliga Top and a 4 point cushion, Hertha still struggling

smp20
2022/23 Mid-Season Update Nov-Dec Results Aue ended our unbeaten run but other than that it was a good couple of months, including a 2-1 win over East German rivals Dresden. 2.Bundesliga Still top, but hard-to-beat Heidenheim have narrowed the gap to 3 points. Hertha out of the relegation zone under new manager Michael Laudrup who has 7 points from his first three games. Player Stats Our whole backline has been solid with over 7.00 averages, but the three top performers have been Arcones as our regista, Ujah as our frontman and Kade as our mezzala. Squad Sweeper-Keepers Busk has now become first choice keeper and Gikiewicz decided he wanted to move back to Poland and leaving in February so now Opperman has a chance to break into the team as second choice keeper. Not our strongest area, but Busk is adequate enough for this level; Gikiewicz was decent but now 35 he's declined physically. Wing Backs (Right) Ryerson was the biggest departure in the summer leaving a void at right back. Flecker has done a good job at filling it despite being more of a winger. Promel is more of a centre mid which is where he's played during Andrich's injury spell, but he can fill in at right back when needed and does a good job. We could do with a hot prospect coming through at right back. Wing Backs (Left) Labroussis broke into the squad last season and is now our clear first choice left back since the change of formation and Kade being moved into midfield. He's very solid defensively, but lacks the cutting edge to add to our attacks, I hope he can improve over time. Lenz is still backup after just 28 league appearances in 3.5 seasons. Ball-Playing Defenders Rapp and Friedrich are the starting partnership at the back and the strongest part of the team. Although not world beaters, they're both quick enough, good enough in the air and decent on the ball. Hubner and Dietz are a decent backup pairing - we also have 18-year-old Sven Blumberg knocking on the door. Registas Arcones spent the last two seasons out on loan in the 2.Bundesliga with Bielefield and St Pauli and has stepped back into the team as a top performer in the regista role. Schmiedebach is past his best, but a good character to have around. In reality he's 3rd choice, Andrich will drop into DM and Promel to MC if Arcones is not available. Box-to-box Midfielders Andrich is club captain and a key player for us, adding much needed steel into the middle. Maciejewski is behind Promel in reality, but is a reasonable prospect and is a traditional winger being turned into a box-to-box midfielder. Mezzalas Kade has spent the last couple of seasons plying his trade as a wing back but is now back in central midfielder in a mezzala role; hopefully his time playing as a wing back will make him comfortable creating the width we requite from our mezzala. Aksakal is a winger but is learning to be a centre mid to give Kade cover or rest when he needs it. Inside Forwards (Right) Gogia has seen his influence slip with in the team, going from 9 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga first season to just 3 last season and a slipping overall rating, but he's still an important member of the side. Ingvartsen is a striker turned inside forward where we're looking to utilise his left foot cutting in and added aerial ability. Inside Forwards (Left) Mees had a terrible season last year scoring just 1 goal and two assists, but he's been ever-present so far this season and doing much better. He's the only player that isn't interested in signing a new deal so hopefully we can convince him to re-sign or we'll lose him in the summer. Ugur Tas is our best prospect from our academy so far. He's been re-trained as an inside forward to utilise his one-twos and link up play as he's not really aggressive/brave enough to be a lone pressing forward. Pressing Forwards When it comes to Ujah, Die Eisernen have been through all the emotions, as has he. He struggled to settle in the first season and needed time in Nigeria before becoming a bit-part player ending with 6 goals in 18 appearances. Season two he was much better grabbing 13 goals, but just 6 goals in 30 games last season is not enough for the man you're relying on. He's had a great first half of the season in the second tier and hopefully he can keep doing so for the next season and a half at least. Abdullahi has just 6 goals in 3.5 seasons so that's why he doesn't get in the team much...

smp20
Youth Intake 2023 A January-March update is just around the corner, but first up it's the youth intake. I'm very excited about Erdal Koral; already accomplished at AMR he's being trained there and I see him as the long term replacement for Gogia. Egger is an out-and-out winger but will be re-trained to play on the other side.

Jogo Bonito
Poor Hertha! I see the FM Twitter account is doing suggestions of German clubs to manage, the first one of which recommends Hertha (and there are obvious reasons for doing so). 1 minute ago, smp20 said: Brough in the only club icon in the game as a coach/manager I always love to do this, so its's a big thumbs up from me for this move. By the way (thread diversion) I had the chance to sign Ganvoula in my Lorient game (not sure if you have seen it in FMCU) but even for a fee of £3.3m and wage of £9,500 I couldn't bring myself to do it after following him in your RC Lens story too closely

My scouts keep on recommending him but I can't have him - get him in!
smp20
January - March 2023 Update Results A disappointing start to 2023 with just 4 wins in 10 games and losing as many as we win! Not the form of title contenders. However we did manage to win in West Berlin to get the double over our rivals 2.Bundesliga Heidenheim overtake us to go top of the league and the promotion race is clear between 5 clubs seperated by 5 points with 6 games remaining. At this point I will take any form of promotion, however it would be nice to lift the trophy to show Die Eisernen faithful some silverware. We need to stop losing games though!!!! Jogo Bonito
That's been a tough run but you're still in with a great chance if you can get that consistency back again. I see what you mean about Hertha, their position is much-improved now.
smp20
April 2023 Update Results We've hit a run of form, only dampened slightly by a draw with Bochum (@Jogo Bonito of course Ganvoula scored against me ). Just two games left but they won't be easy. Both Aue and Dresden are East German sides that will be looking to scupper our title/automatic promotion hopes, especially rivals Dresden. 2.Bundesliga 2 points clear with a better goal difference. 2 wins confirms the title, 4 points should do unless Heidenheim win both their games big, anything less and we're hoping results go our way. smp20
Facilities ~ Finances ~ Awards ~ Player Stats Overall it was mission accomplished in terms of getting back into the Bundesliga, however the success is bittersweet due to missing out on the title on the final day due to the lackluster performance in Dresden. We can't dwell on that now though as we need to focus on ensuring next season will fare better than our last year in the top flight. Loyalty had been shown to Ujah to lead the line as he was ever-present in the 2.Bundesliga, however is 11 goals a tally worthy of him being our talisman? Abdullahi isn't really the solution and Ingvartsen is heavily injury prone, however we could have passed it on to a youngster such as Ugur Tas despite believing he'd be better suited out wide. Player of the season goes to Arcones despite him missing the last two months of the season, with Andrich picking up second place. I had expected more goals and assists from Kade but he fell short of expectations. Mees and Gogia both did a reasonable job as our first choice inside forwards, but we now have youngsters knocking on the door. I think I will start the season off with the old guard in the hope we do well enough to be comfortable in mid-table to start bringing the youngsters into the starting 11. However, that could be very wishful thinking.
smp20
We won't stop making these upgrades until we a) max out at state of the art or b) run out of money. 17m euros for 2nd in 2.Bundesliga isn't bad so we're still looking healthy.

smp20
August - September 2023 Update Results We kicked off the Bundesliga season in style with three straight wins to go top of the table, however Schalke brought us back down to earth with a 3-0 drubbing and although draws with Stuttgart and Gladbach aren't bad results three games without a goal is a worry. Jogo Bonito
After that fine start you must have been quite confident. Luckily those early points gave you some cushion over those below you.
