February - March 2021 Update

Results

e3862b21eec0f392429d61d1c8e051b1.png

The win against Frankfurt saw us leapfrog them into 5th place but we must have started to panic about being in the European places and lost to relegation-threatened Hannover at home straight after. Since then our form has been very hit and miss.

League Table

We've already got more points than last season so anything else is a bonus. However if we did manage to finish in the top 7 we could take Union to Europe

Our second youth intake was the first with new HOYD Bryan Klug and we have a couple of decent prospects out of it. Basri Uzun has a lot of areas to work on but a good base for a centre back.

April 2021 Update

Results / Fixtures

7d16305481f96c3c0b1b95986af8d678.png

Big away losses sandwiched by wins at home, an average month. We've got a tricky last three fixtures in May, away against teams just below us and at home vs a team above us.

Bundesliga Table

e6969f06bfaec2244ba1940ecb8bf98f.png

We've got a chance of finishing 6th, but a lossses vs Augsburg and Bayer could see us finish 9th. A 7th place finish could secure a place in Europa Conference qualifying or 6th in the Europa Cup group stages, depending on the cup winner.

A win, loss and a draw, the most crucial being the late equaliser against Augsburg!

The draw vs Augsburg ensured we finished above them and gave us a shot at Europa Conference next season, though we will be supporting Dortmund in the cup final vs Augsburg to get there!

A great season, vastly improving on last years 11th place and taking Union into Europe for the first time in their history :D. The team has bonded exceptionally well together and I'm liking the new 3-5-2 Vertical Tiki-Taka approach. This year it was Andich who scooped the POTY award, closely followed by last years winner Gogia and top scorer Ujah who has definitely settled in at the club now.

Meet our new Assistant Manager Rene Maric. He started out as an amateur player, coach and blogger before working alongside Marco Rose at Salzburg & Gladbach. He's achieved a lot at a young age and it's time to put his tactical nous to the test :onmehead:

We've managed to get a B Team formed who go straight into the German 4th tier. We have a few youngsters who aren't quite good enough to feature in the first team but are too old for U19s football so this is perfect to keep them developing at the club.

Do you have the 4rth tier loaded? Also I'm not sure but I think they can promote to Bundeliga3 but not allowed to promote from 3.

No I haven't, just out the box leagues. Also I forgot to sort out the names and German NT when I re-downloaded FM so it's not there :(. In theory our 2nd team could get promoted to 3.Liga, but it's unlikely as they're 1* rep and there are lots of 1.5* to 2* rep teams at that level.

A great season last time around, and the new No. 2 looks to be decent. He must be good to have worked for a good manager at those progressing clubs.

I always go for a a tactical genius as Assistant Manager, so I have more trust in him doing pre-game stuff (slightly less genius as I go down levels of course, but that attribute is the one that I start with).

Rocky times in the current season by the sound of it, but I am sure you will recover.

Yeah he's someone I've read about, really interesting background and ideas around football tactics! Agreed, I always look for tactical knowledge first.

It certainly has been :(

August - September Update

Despite opening the season with a record 10-0 win, we have had a terrible start to the season. We were knocked out in the Europa Conference by Marseille - the toughest draw we could have got but we should have at least created some chances! With the exception of a surprise, and lucky, 4-1 win away at Augsburg we have been awful in the league, particularly at home. We've been conceding far too many chances, as well as not creating enough ourselves!

Bundesliga Table

It's early day but as it stands we're in a relegation dogfight. Hertha smashed the 2.Bundesliga, but it's great to see them propping up the table again :brock:

Complete utter dross. A huge loss to Hertha as well as to Werder who were bottom at the time. We laughed when the blue of Berlin were bottom, now they are laughing at us!!!

The 3-5-2 Vertical tiki-taka is being ditched. It worked so well last season, but this season the same tactic and players has been truly woeful.

2021/22 Mid-Season Update

Results

2 wins out of three, though in honesty the 3-0 vs Freiburg flattered us as they had the better chances. We switched to a very direct, attacking 4-2-4 and it worked well vs RBL and we will give that a go in January.

League Table

015c0d316b0d0f5e8d4423d6d92092ec.png

We've crept out of the bottom 3, while Hertha are back in it and sacked their manager. We need results. Bayern having a poor season.

Player Stats

Same issue as season 1, lack of goals from the strikers! Ujah, Andersson and Abdullahi all on 3, while Ingvartsen and Mees only have 1...

Bayern even lost in the cup to Bielefield and down to 8th! Shocking. Maybe they don't gegenpress

1 points out of a possible 12, the worst result being the home loss to co-battlers Hamburg. Not good!

Well and truly in a relegation scrap. Very tight at the bottom we just needs to pick up a run of form from somewhere.

Huth was on the brink of the sack after the cup exit, but three games without a defeat including back-to-back 1-0 wins gave some believe in him. Despite the results, in honesty the performances weren't great and we came crashing down with 3 consecutive defeats. A change of approach saw us thump Koln away, next up Hertha at the Forsterei after the international break!

Bundesliga Table

7 games left and thanks to the big win over Koln we're out of the relegation zone. Dortmund look like they'll be the team to stop Bayern from a 20th straight title, though Bayern's failure this season has been self-driven.

Bayram Cebi looks like a very good prospect, though I realy like the look of Nico Gies - he's got all the base attributes to be a great inside winger or pressing forward just needs a bit of tutoring.

If the board give you a chance to rebuild, this might not be a bad thing in the long run. Youth only starting at the top level was very ambitious!

5 minutes ago, Ronaldo Beckham said:

Unlucky mate, I hope you don't get sacked and build a squad that gets promoted back. Keep going mate as I am enjoying see how you do.

Cheers for the support guys, I will be sticking as 'youth only' but I'm definitely loosening the tactical side. Going to play a similar way to my Lens career with a few tweaks.

Right so these have been activated (at the time of the contracts I allowed them to remain as after finishing 7th, I didn't think we'd end up relegation but I was very, very wrong)! I will need to offer new contracts to persuade Ryerson, Andrich and Kade to stay on, as well as the two youngsters Labroussis and Asllani.

Despite the relegation, we still have over 50m Euros in the bank and we're continuing to invest in the facilities and youth setup.

Despite being offered a contract making him the highest earner at the club on 45k a week, Ryerson decided to leave for his relegation release clause to Gladbach :( - all of the others signed new contracts.

We also decided to let Sebastian Andersson go to Metz for 2.3m, the TM style striker hasn't worked for us.

Wow, what a ride you had there in the last season! Quite a surprise after the two years before, but great to see the board support you and allow the chance to bounce back.

Really nice to have Hertha go down as having a massive derby in Bundesliga 2 will be exciting.

Some big losses there that will be hard to overcome, but good luck.
