"I hope they play like Brazil, they normally do... just not on that occasion"

Anguilla's Road to World Cup Glory

Recently I looked up on the FIFA World Rankings and saw Anguilla in dead last. The small Caribbean nation has very little footballing history of note, so I decided it would be fun to try to win the World Cup with them. After this I searched up their team on Youtube among the 15-0 drubbings at the hands of El Salvador and Nicaragua, relative minnows in their own right, was the livestreams of the Anguillan football league. After watching about 2 minutes of a thrilling game between Diamonds FC and Doc's United FC the commentator muttered those words, and I had my title.

For this save I'll be managing the Anguillan national team alongside Doc's United FC in the AFA Senior Male League and trying to build Anguilla into powerhouses in world football (emphasis on the trying).

The leagues I've loaded for this save are the AFA Senior Male League and England down to the Vanarama National League North/South in case I feel like I need to get Anguillan players coming through big teams in order to win the World Cup with them. I've loaded a large database with all players from and playing in both North and South America loaded as well as all English players (from and playing in), all international players and players playing in European Continental Competition.

My manager will be Aldo McDonald (random name), a 20 year old Anguillan from the Valley.

Doc's United Squad Overview

Goalkeepers

Matthew Gumbs (Anguilla 27yo 2.5CA 5PA)

Only one real option at goalkeeper in game generated player Matthew Gumbs will probably use him as backup and look to bring in a starter before the season starts. There are a couple of youngsters who will never play unless in an emergency.

Hot Prospects

Khaloni Abraham (Anguilla 17yo 0.15CA 5PA)

Leon Francis (Anguilla 17yo 0.15CA 5PA)

Central Defenders

Colin Vanderpool (Anguilla 17yo 2.5CA 5PA) (primarily a defensive midfielder)

Theon Gumbs (Anguilla 28yo 2.5CA 2.5PA)

Kapil Lake (Anguilla 16yo 1CA 5PA)

Another position that needs work, Theon Gumbs has some good physicals so I wouldn't be against using him but with Vanderpool specialisng at defensive midfielder I think signing a new starting central defender. I might try to give young gun Kapil Lake some minutes but that depends on who we bring in.

Hot Prospects

Colin Petty (Anguilla 17yo 0.15CA 5PA)

Steven Liddie (Anguilla 16yo 0.15CA 5PA)

Left Defender

Theon Gumbs (Anguilla 28yo 2.5CA 2.5PA) (primarily a central defender)

Romare Gumbs (Anguilla 25yo 0.5CA 5PA)

Definitely a position of need, Theon Gumbs won't play here and Romare Gumbs is pretty trash, likely will need to sign a couple here

Hot Prospects

Nigel Gumbs (Anguilla 17yo 0.25CA 5PA)

Right Defender

Kieran Battice (Anguilla 17yo 3CA 5PA)

Theon Gumbs (Anguilla 28yo 2.5CA 2.5PA) (primarily a central defender)

Finally a position with a player I'm comfortable starting. Battice is a nice young player who will be key in our efforts this season. Might need a backup but if I can sign a couple of central defender Theon Gumbs is comfortable backing up in this position

Hot prospects

Ashton Richardson (Anguilla 17yo 0.15CA 5PA)

Defensive Midfielder

Colin Vanderpool (Anguilla 17yo 2.5CA 5PA)

Germain Petty (Anguilla 25yo 1.5CA 5PA)

Kion Flemming (Anguilla 22yo 1.5CA 5PA)

Another position that isn't an immediate concern. I'd prefer Vanderpool to be a backup but I'm more than comfortable starting him this season with Petty and Flemming alternating as backup

Kevin Gumbs (Anguilla 17yo 0.15CA 5PA)

Central Midfielder

Colin Vanderpool (Anguilla 17yo 2.5CA 5PA) (primarily a defensive midfielder)

Definitely needs an improvement. Vanderpool won't play here so we have no one. Not even a hot prospect or trash.

Left Winger

Tre Richardson (Anguilla 22yo 4.5CA 5PA)

Desroy Smith (Anguilla 16yo 3.5CA 5PA) (primarily a right winger)

Aaron Herbert (Anguilla 17yo 3CA 5PA)

Damien Brown (Anguilla 27yo 1.5CA 2.5PA)

Definitely a position of strength, Richardson is the best player on the team and Herbert is more than good enough as a backup. Richardson can also play AMC so if we push the winger into a left midfielder role we might move Richardson into the AMC role and start Herbert. Plenty of depth here.

Hot Prospects

Kion Gumbs (Anguilla 17yo 1CA 5PA)

Right Winger

Desroy Smith (Anguilla 16yo 3.5CA 5PA)

Aedan Dumas (Anguilla 16yo 1.5CA 5PA) (primarily a striker)

Theon Liddie (Anguilla 16yo 1.5CA 5PA)

Colin Bryan (Anguilla 17yo 1.5CA 5PA)

Kenny Abraham (Anguilla 24yo 1.5CA 5PA)

Aedan Richardson (Anguilla 25yo 1CA 5PA)

Smith is definitely a good starter and there's tonnes of depth and potential. The wings are going to be positions of strength this season

Cordell Scarbrough (Anguilla 16yo 1CA 5PA)

Striker

Aedan Dumas (Anguilla 16yo 1.5CA 5PA)

Vershawn Liddie (Anguilla 28yo 1.5CA 1.5PA)

Vershawn Vanderpool (Anguilla 24yo 1CA 5PA)

Need a new striker but some good depth options, Dumas will probably be a good bench player.

Cleo Abbott (Anguilla 17yo 1CA 5PA)

Cordell Petty (Anguilla 17yo 1CA 5PA)

Anguilla - Theon Richardson, Jaleel Scarbrough, Ikenya Brown, Desroy Findlay (off 64), Steven Austin, Leon Richardson (off 80), Vershawn Hodge, Denville Francis (off 64), Damian Bailey, Kieran Kentish (off 64), Matthew Brown (off 21), Adonijah Richardson (on 64), Jordan Peabody (on 80), Miguel Abraham (on 64), Ruvin Richardson (on 64), Alrique Rogers (on 21)

A good start, 1-0 victory vs the Cayman Islands. We were very lucky though, the Caymans had 2 offside goals disallowed and Mark Ebanks hit the sidebar on a penalty. Alrique Rogers hit home a winner in the 61st minute to give us our first win in our first game as manager.

Next up in October is a NA Nations League game vs St Lucia and a friendly vs the UK Virgin Islands

Doc's United September 2018 Review

772400321_september2018.thumb.PNG.f966c0faceb606900caf59e068b2e874.PNG

Only friendlies this month. A 3-1 win over our Under 20s and  1-1 draw against Saint Martinier side Marigot B. Not bad results but we probably could do better

We can't sign any players until January which means that the Knock-Out Cup and the first 6 games in the league could be tough. We have got some deals done for some strikers including Anguilla hero Alrique Rogers. We did sign up a grey player who is pretty bad but will start for us at central midfield in Calan Francis. We did beef up the staff and now have the best staff in every category but goalkeeper coaching in the league.

Unfortunately Denville Francis got injured and was unable to play but I was able to bring in free agent Cordell Smith. The game went alright, we weren't expected to win and we manage to stay in the game for most of it. Malik St. Prix scored 2 second half goals to get St Lucia over the line. Offensively, we weren't good the team can't really string a set of passes together and the defence let St Lucia through way too much. Tre Brown-Peabody (the Goalkeeper) had a good game on debut though making some good saves

735118608_afterstlucia2018.thumb.PNG.46e0d7708e39901faf3cbb9aa78ae77e.PNG

After that result we are dead last in the NA Nations League as the team lost 3-0 to Jamaica before I joined. Not good and shows how much work we have to do before we can even challenge to win games in World Cup qualification.

We finish the international break with a friendly against the British Virgin Islands

Not a great performance, defensively we were solid, Brown-Peabody had another great game. The problem is still offensively the players can't build anything up, we did have an offside goal disallowed by Alrique Rogers but other than that and a couple of unsuccessful goal mouth scrambles we didn't create much.

The next international break in November we have a friendly against Bermuda and a Nations League game against Aruba

Mainly friendlies which were a mixed bag. We also had our first competitive game, a 1-1 draw with Enforcers FC in the Knock-Out Cup 1st Round.

Transfers In

1612672766_october2018transfersin.thumb.PNG.74fa808a3ee8efe2f329dea91325308f.PNG

Despite some transfers not going through until January, I don't know why some were free transfers as well which means it doesn't just mean that players switching clubs can't move. Some of these names will be familiar as the last 4 all feature regularly in my Anguilla squads. All players are 4-5CA players and too show how much it improves the squad, our former key player Tre Richardson, who was a 4.5CA player is now 1.5CA. Richardson (DR) and Ashton Dumas (DC), don't play for me under Anguilla but both will be key players for Doc's United. Theon Richardson (GK) is another key starter in a position of need. I'm really excited about Jaleel Scarbrough (DC) and Cordell Smith (MC) as both play key roles holding us both solid defensively and have a creative pivot in the midfield. Jonathan Guishard (FC) will hopefully play alongside Alrique Rogers when he comes in, in January. Guishard scored our goal in the draw against Enforcers FC.

Transfers Out

Players who I couldn't fit into my registered squad who kicked up a fuss. Weren't going to play anyway.

Anguilla - Tre Brown-Peabody, Jaleel Scarbrough, Ikenya Brown, Desroy Findlay, Steven Austin, Germain Hughes, Alrique Rogers, Cordell Smith, Damian Bailey, Kieran Kentish, Jonathan Guishard

Subbed On - Kevin Hawley, Vershawn Hodge, Leo Richardson, Tre Gumbs, Ruvin Richardson, Alrique Rogers

Ouch! Never expected to win this. Bermuda's key player, Nakhi Wells, plays for Burnley in the English Premier League. To put that in perspective our key player, Germain Hughes, plays for Heather St Johns in the English 10th Tier. In the end Nakhi Wells put an end to Brown-Peabody's good international form putting 4 past him including capitalising on a poor pass from Brown-Peabody. A positive was that Damian Bailey our central midfielder scored a very nice goal after some rare good ball movement from the team. Our player from Doc's United central defender Jaleel Scarbrough had a very bad game which is extremely worrying.

Our next game is a Nations League game against Aruba, winnable but we're going to be hard pressed, hopefully we can get over the line.

And... I'm starting to see why Anguilla is last in the World rankings. No one played well, but at least no one was exceptionally bad. Overall just not clinical up front, can't pass through the midfield and the defence is resembling a bunch of wandering cupcakes.

At least we're not bottom.

Our next international break is all the way in March with a friendly against the Turks and Caicos Islands and our final Nations League game against Bonaire lets try not to go 0-4

Doc's United November 2018 Review

145737023_November2018Results.thumb.PNG.e8142b5427ed2ea22ca5c68b02a09594.PNG

Relatively quiet month, a 1-0 win against Diamond and a bore 0-0 draw against ALHCS Spartans. The team is very similar to my Anguilla team in the sense they can't score. The only goal coming from central defender Jaleel Scarbrough heading in a free kick. Still undefeated in the league and still haven't conceded in the league is a positive though

1182370755_November2018Table.thumb.PNG.76d8b70b85436f90e2b1d6d9a1667876.PNG

Due to the International Break the league is all over the place. We are currently in fourth but I don't think that means much at the moment.

Only just found this, shout out to you! The San Marino challenge is significantly easier than Aguilla or Montserrat as continental competitions are nowhere near as lucratice or easy.
