Just spotted that we're now down as competitive rivals with PSG :brock:

On ours they're down as historic rivals as our 2nd biggest, but I don't think that can develop any further as only competitive rivalries are dynamic.

We say goodbye to Silvere Ganvoula after 4 seasons with the club scoring 51 goals in 100 first team games. We signed him from Bochum for £3m in 2020 and he will be fondly remembered for his 24 league goal tally in his debut season. At £32m we've made a great profit on him, thought he's getting 10% of it and Bochum 40%...

Despite having 16 players on duty at the Olympics for France, Cameroon or Ivory Coast we managed to sneak a win against PSG in the Trophee des Champions :D

I always love your threads, another excellent one here and of course you won the CL in about five minutes :D

I still read your First Vienna/Castellon thread from time to time for inspiration - any plans to do a similar youth only save at some point down the line?

Thanks, glad you enjoy reading them :D. Ah the 'Every Country? Are you nuts?' thread - I might head back to something like that in the not too distance future :brock:

2024/25 Mid-Season Update

Ligue 1

28c1fa3209aad774f952f6d3d2853d23.png

We had a great start to the campaign, but our home form has let us down recently. Losses to Lyon and fierce rivals Lille at home were not expected by the Sang et Or faithful, nor was a 0-0 with bottom placed Metz.

de9c8a393b533701ad0e4193c6088457.png

Let's all take a moment to laugh at Frank de Boer's PSG . Shocking from them, 6 losses at the halfway point including us thumping them 4-0. Lyon are having a great season on the back of their CL win, only behind us on goal difference, while Monaco are the 3rd side in the title race. I expect PSG to pick up in the 2nd half, but it looks too late for them to challenge for the title.

Champions League

5c9534be7ffaed907a6f7e625ef34880.png

We opened with a loss at Anfield but followed up with comfortable wins against Fenerbahce & Zenit. A 3-2 win at home was good but we finished 2nd on away goals because of it. A tricky tie against Man Utd awaits, they knocked us out in the QF last season and won the CL the season before that.

Player Stats

9fb505ad8070393ff2f9866838c8e5f9.png

Plenty of rotation in the squad to cope with the fixture load and with 11 players at the AFCON we will be calling on our talented U19s to see us through the January period. Diakite and Guirassy are again our top performers.

Road to AFCON 2025

2024 Results

d9986de1718a2e481fb6e058d550694b.png

2024 was a good settling in year for Titi back in Guinea. we played the AFCON qualifiers but they were nothing more than competitive friendlies as we had already qualified as hosts. Angola got the better of us in Luanda, however we beat them at home as well as Algeria x 2 and comfortable 6-0 home and away wins vs Niger. The most important games were the World Cup qualifiers and we got off to a good start by winning away in Zimbabwe and a home win against former employers Cameroon.

Squad & Fixtures

48c81a1a0ddb27ce03487a707ca67f38.png

Just 1 change since, Simakan out with a long-term injury replaced by a weaker Ibrahima Conte of Rodez. We have key areas of strengths and weaknesses which we will need to utilise and mask.

Best XI

11e0ca5ac439ac3440d34915592a4790.png

Barry ~ Sarr ~ Diakhaby ~ Falette ~ Sylla ~ N.Keita ~ Diawara ~ Moriba ~ J.Keita ~ Kamano ~ Guirassy

It's clear to see that we are strongest through the middle, while we are weaker out wide. Goalkeeper Barry has never made a league appearance but is a firm no.1 as the other options are terrible. He's a good prospect at Man City. Right back Sarr and Left back Sylla are both the wrong side of 30 but decent enough to compete, while Falette has declined physically but gets in the 11 due to Simakan's injury. Diakhaby is the star man in the defence; we need him on form. Our midfield 3 is the sides greatest strength; Naby Keita as a pivot for box to box Diawara and a top class Moriba. Unfortunately Naby is injured for 2-4 weeks, so Abdoulaye Toure will start in his place who is solid enough. The wings are our weakest area worsened by the fact first choice Kamano is out injured, meaning youngster Moussa Diallo will be thrown in. Jules Keita is not international standard, but is the best option we have on the right and one familiar with Titi from his Lens days. Ibrahima Guirassy leads the line and with 10 goals in 9 caps so far he will be pivotal if we are to be successful.

Good work again. WTF has happened to psg though!? That's a real fall from grace.

Guirassy looks amazing. Is that Mohamed Simakan you're talking about? How's he come on in your save? I have him on loan at red star with an option to buy - he did well in Ligue 2 and now keen to see if he can make the step up.

Not too sure how I feel about this...

Glad to see you back posting on your progress, Guinea have a really good squad. A lot better then my EQ.Guinea squad I have in my Metz save lol.

If you don't like managing Lens after the takeover then you can always go to another club in your current save and build them up instead.

I get bored of saves where I have loads of money to spend so I would understand you not wanting to continue if RC Lens becomes PSG Version 2.

Don't you already have a lot of money in the bank?  It won't really help will it. Unless you want to become the new PSG!

Yeah we've got a very healthy bank balance - the consortium deal has fallen through so watch this space. Can't blame the chairman for wanting to sell as it'll fetch him close to £1billion

Cheers. De Boer has just completely messed it up, can't believe his job is still stable they even came 3rd in the CL group!!! Yeah if Guirassy keeps improving he will be up there with the best African strikers of all time :D. I like Simakan and I'd say he's worthwhile getting:

Yeah some weak areas but with Ilaix Moriba and Mouctar Diakhaby declaring it has some real quality :). The takeover fell through but I don't think I'd leave Lens any time soon. Even if we had a tycoon takeover I'd still be limited to signing Africans.

Yeah I am trying to get a better African national team job, hopefully I can get the Guinea job as I would like to try take them to the World Cup.

Yeah limiting yourself to just buying Africans will make it more challenging. I am doing the same with FC Metz.

The thing I have found as I am trying to have all my staff to be from African Nations is that is hard to find good staff members who are African.

I am hoping some former African players become good coaches etc when they retire.

AFCON Group Stages Update

Guinea Results

bb0af3a60a33dc84cb096076f5a74d45.png

We started well with a comprehensive victory over Tunisia and our second string came out on top of Gambia. However, we failed to top the group after a typical FM'ing at the hands of Angola, who seem to be our bogey side.

Group Tables

eddbc3f8bf133170cd84822fe0a02527.png477d2ea6cc3a09a4ea47187d71401516.png

Uganda are the biggest surprise, winning all their games in a tough group while DR Congo were appalling finishing bottom when you'd expect them to get through. South Africa and Tunisia also disappointed losing all their games.

2nd Round

9c34311849f957aea6cea2fc4246f07d.png

We could have faced a much easier tie vs Zambia if we hadn't lost to Angola, but we face a tough challenge against Nigeria.

It is definitely a lot harder at the start to get good staff, especially medical staff which is near impossible. Here's my overall staff now:

Wow some good staff there, I will take a look at these when I get home later. Getting Patrick Viera in as a coach was a great move by you. In my long term career save he ended up having a very successful career as a manager so I was amazed to see you convince him to come in a coach.

We did it the hard way but we've into the Quarter-Final :D. We put our faith in new Sheff Utd £17m signing Seydouba Camara and he duly delivered. We should have put Nigeria to bed in 90 mins, but it took 120 mins and pens.

3a4ef549528cdb1135cd1cb0baf408f1.png

A reunion with Cameroon awaits, it's going to be tough to knockout the holders as we have just a days break after 120mins. Naby Keita lasted all 120 last game after just 30 mins in the last two months, so I'd say he's a huge doubt vs Cameroon.

The only surprise result is perhaps Burkino Faso vs Mali, while Uganda's fine run was cruelly ended by Ivory Coast on penalties.

Yeah he's now in his second spell with us after previously being U19s manager. I find if a Manager goes about a year without a job, they are more likely to join as a coach / youth manager:

Into the final :D. It was a comfortable victory in the end, mainly thanks to supersub Abdoulaye Toure's thunderous volley and a solid defence. Young Mamadou Balde even managed to make his debut giving Moraiba a 20 minute rest :)

Ghana have a solid, hard working side but with only one real world class player in Thomas Partey. I think we go into it as slight favourites, especially as hosts.

One change to the expected Ghana team, Acheampong in for the experience Jordan Ayew, with Abass moving up top. Diawara not fit enough to start after injury in the semis so Abdoulaye Toure replaces him. Kamara in for the shattered Issiaga Sylla too.

We've been by far the better side going in to half time, but Ghana have had a few decent counter attacks which I'm nervous about.

Despite missing eleven players to AFCON we've managed to keep on top of it domestically, sailing through to the cup semis to face Nice and beating Lyon on the way as well as winning all our league games bar a draw at home vs Nancy. We're off to a good start in the CL knockouts too, beating Man Utd 2-0 at home.

League Table

After the draw vs Nancy Lyon leapfrogged us, but a recent loss to Lille (thanks guys) means we're back on top.

Woah, great career you're building here. Champions League, back to back French titles, getting to the world Cup final with an African team, winning the African cup of nations with 2 different sides. That's great stuff and surprisingly pretty diverse! We're only missing a season of total domination, Champions League plus French title, come on we all know you can do it. ;)

March 2025 Update

We hadn't been setting the world alight in the league but getting the wins, up until PSG away and they got the better of us :(. We're into the cup final and also into the CL Quarter-final after a 3-0 aggregate win over Man Utd :D.

Champions League

379199ef996ea6cd4467c615ac637580.png

We face Bayern, who we knocked out last season in the first KOs. Hopefully we can do so again for a semi-final tie against Real Madrid or Liverpool. Lyon are doing well yet again and have a winnable game against Roma - they beat Man City in the first KO.

Ligue 1

3b5e059de0006fe5464976fd32346234.png

PSG may have just beaten us, but their chances of winning the league are more or less over. That loss did, however, allow Lyon to go joint on points with us with eight games remaining.
