Setting Up Defensive Blocks

Recommended Posts

If you are asking about these defensive blocks solely in terms of DL and LOE (without a broader tactical context), then - depending in part on the formation you use as well as team mentality - these are basic settings for each block respectively:

Low block variations:

- standard DL / lower LOE (optimal compactness)

- lower DL / lower LOE

- lower DL / much lower LOE (optimal compactness)

- standard DL / much lower LOE

- much lower DL / lower LOE (potentially insufficient compactness)

Medium block variations:

- higher DL / standard LOE (optimal compactness)

- standard DL / standard LOE

- much higher DL / standard LOE (good compactness, but potentially risky in terms of balls over the top)

High block variations:

- higher DL / higher LOE

- higher DL / much higher LOE (potentially insufficient compactness)

- much higher DL / much higher LOE

- much higher DL / higher LOE (optimal compactness, but potentially risky in terms of balls over the top)

- standard DL / higher LOE (potentially insufficient compactness)

- standard DL / much higher LOE (fairly poor compactness)
