vara
So this has been a long time coming. I've finally decided to shelf my opening save to FM20 with Gateshead and time to get cracking on a new save to share with you all. ----------------------------------------------------------------- FALKIRK FC The Bairns Founded: 1876 Stadium: Falkirk Stadium - Capacity 7,937 Value: £2.6m Division: League One Rivals: Dunfermline, Stenhousemuir, Hearts Following consistent top 3 finishes between 2010/11 and 2016/17, Falkirk just managed to escape relegation in the 2018/19 seaon, but the following season, with a squad depleted of experience and quality were relegated to League One for the first time since 1980. FINANCES With just over £500k in the bank, it will be important to keep the books fairly tight. An expected loss of revenue with the drop of division will mean business will be shrewd. Transfer Budget: £19,725 Wage Budget: £16,615 - 90% used Scouting Budget: 17,106 FACILITIES Falkirk Stadium - Build in 2004, boasts a capacity of 7,937, with a synthetic pitch and undersoil heating. Training Facilities - Great Youth Facilities - Good Data Analysis - Basic Youth Recruitment - None --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We're expected to make an immediate return to the Championship. A fair expectation, however with a thin squad and limited resources, we'll have to be smart about our process. Next up the squad will be on show, as well as initial tactics and first few friendlies. vara
FIRST TEAM SQUAD Goalkeepers: Calum Ferrie (L), Robbie Mutch Defenders: Gary Miller, Michael Doyle, Mark Durnon, Gregor Buchanan, Ben Hall, Paul Dixon Midfield: Morgaro Gomis, Michael Tidser, Ian McShane, Charlie Telfer, Raffaele De Vita (L), Josh Todd, Aidan Connolly, Louis Longridge Forwards: Declan McManus (L), David McMillan (L), Conor Sammon (L) - On Loan No injuries to worry about from the start which is always nice. The squad is a little thin and quite a few have just arrived that are in their later years so adding depth with youth will be a plan. Positions required, backup Left Back and Left Mid. Lesser targets, young RB, CM, ST. Conor Sammon is annoyingly our highest earner, on £1k pw, luckily he's only here for 1 year, but I do prefer my other striking options ahead of him. How does a bloke his size only have 7 heading. We have 3 players out on loan, 21yr old Robbie Leitch at Forfar. 19yr old Aidan Laverty at Brechin. 24yr old Denny Johnstone at Stranraer. STAFF Won't take you through staff individually in this post, but here is an overview. Leading almost all areas as expected for this division. TACTICS This is the base we'll be working with to start. Suits our existing players plus a couple elements i want to try. Expecting we'll be favourite for most matches in the league and frustrated by an opposition with numbers behind the ball quite regularly. So we'll find ways within this system to hopefully be expansive and pick apart gaps in weaker defences. PRE-SEASON FIXTURES Snuck 3 matches in prior to the Betfred Cup starting. Get a little tactical familiarity and match fitness as per usual. Mostly all as expected, with first look at the formation quite positive. --------------------------------------------- So i have rushed through all that as i do need a snooze. Will edit a couple things on this page tomorrow, as well as post the next bits. Beginning of the Betfred Cup (opening match away to St Mirren), transfer updates, further player depth and my objectives for the save. Thanks, have a good day. vara
-JULY- TRANSFER IN Acted quick to get our first signing through the door. Scouts popped up with this kid and he was already under offer from a couple clubs. Jumped straight in and managed to get him. Sort ours Left Back backup and adds some youth to the side. Signed from Yeovil on a free. Group E - 13/7/19 St Mirren 1 Alex Jakubiak '53 NA NA Falkirk 4 Mark Durnan '39, David McMillan '73, Charlie Telfer '80, Aidan Connolly '87 NA NA ATT: 5,131 Cannot fault that performance. First competitive match away to an SPL side, goals shared from 4 different scorers, happy days! TRANSFER IN At the conclusion of the match, we secured our second signing, a backup for Left Wing, who can also operate on the right. I had trialed him for 2 of our 3 friendlies and he looks like he'll do a job for a year, costing us next to nothing. Only 22 and has already spent time at 8 different clubs, joining us from Stenhousmuir. Group E - 17/7/19 Falkirk 1 Aidan Connolly '28 Aidan Connolly, Michael Doyle NA Partick Thistle 1 Reece Cole '90+2 Thomas O'Ware NA ATT: 4,085 Partick Thistle win 7-6 on pens. No one likes conceding injury time goals, so this annoying as ever. We were then 4-3 up in the shootout and missed the pen that would have won it. Eventually losing 6-7. But, good performance with a few rotations against another side in a higher division to us. Group E - 20/7/19 Annan 1 Niyah Joseph '34 Billy Kelly, Peter Watson, Jamie Walker, Scott McLean NA Falkirk 0 NA Gregor Buchanan NA ATT: 698 Well, their keeper was Man of Match in this one which is all you need to know. More heavy rotating on our side after 3 matches in a week, but the squads match fitness levels are in good shape with the season only a couple weeks off. Group E - 27/7/19 Falkirk 1 Michael Tidser '87, Charlie Telfer PEN MISS '23 NA NA Albion Rovers 0 NA Callum Home, Jordan Stewart, Scott Roberts, NA ATT: 2,372 A frustrating performance against the groups bottom team. We were rightfully the better side on the park but very wasteful in the final third with wayward crossing, shooting, headers and poor decision making. Tidser banging in a tidy free kick fortunately gives us the right result. Not enough to see us through the group however, which was very close. That pen loss v Partick being crucial. We'll close out the month with a quick friendly against Stirling Uni, before the season starts with us away to Airdrie on the 3rd of August. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Plans for the save, well the obvious one will be to get Falkirk back into the SPL. I'm thinking 4 years, hopefully getting back into the Championship at the first attempt. I want to, at some point, invest in our academy and start bringing our own prospects into the first team, putting a focus towards youth is something i'll start early, with scouts already out looking for prospects to bring into our non-existent reserve side. Silverware? well, to win the Challenge Cup before we make it to the SPL would be nice.
Carambau
Nice A career in Scotland? I´m in! Love the look of it already!
vara
Cheers @Carambau, always an enjoyable place to manage. ------------------------------------- -August- Started the month with one extra friendly thrown in, just to look at a couple of adjustments. We beat Stirling Uni 1-0, again with a number of wasted chances, but we're as ready as we can be. I do need a couple more players to add depth in midfield so that search has started. Round 1 - 3/8/19 Airdrie 1 Harry Monaghan '15 NA NA Falkirk 2 Charlie Telfer '48, '68 NA NA ATT: 3,136 Nervy opening game after the results in the close of our Betfred Cup campaign. We were under the pump early and they got a deserved goal, but an aggressive shout seemed to click us into gear and we rightly put them away in the second half, thanks to Telfer's double. Injury Update Gomis and Longridge have both been ruled out for the next few weeks after picking up injuries in training. Gomis fracturing his ribs, while Longridge has a hamstring strain. Round 2 - 10/8/19 Falkirk 2 Charlie Telfer 24, PEN 63 NA NA Dumbarton 0 NA NA NA ATT: 4,784 A regulation 3 pts this, controlled possession throughout, we worked the ball well and yet again should of had more goals. But 1 in each half and i'm happy enough. Telfer bagging another brace, not a bad start for the winger. 14/8/19 Falkirk 0 NA NA NA Dumbarton 1 Ryan McGeever '43 Callum Wilson, Stuart Carswell NA ATT: 4,864 Rotated the squad for this one and lack of depth is telling. Still made plenty of chances but no cutting edge up top. Out of 2 cups now so we're forced to concentrate on the league, until the FA Cup starts atleast. Round 3 - 17/8/19 Montrose 0 NA Graham Webster NA Falkirk 3 Charlie Telfer PEN '28, Daniel Ojo '35, Connor Duthie '73 NA NA ATT: 1,511 Montrose already looking relegation threats, this their third loss out of 3. A very comfortable win with most of our key players back in the lineup. Nice to see someone other than Telfer on the scoresheet too. Round 4 - 24/8/19 Falkirk 2 David McMillan '5, Connor Duthie '27 NA Charlie Telfer '8 Clyde 0 NA Craig Howie NA ATT: 5,089 Outstanding performance, didn't make too many changes after going a man down early, our defensive side was still going to be sound, just had to adjust how we make chances. Got the 2nd and weren't ever really worried at the back. Transfer News We have added some squad depth with the arrival of 3 new players. 18yr old Adam Davidson joins us on a free from East Fife, one for the future. While 27yr old Jamie McKernon and 28yr old David Banjo join for just this season to proved cheap midfield cover. Couple more signings still in the works that we'll hopefully finalise shortly. Round 5 - 31/8/19 Falkirk 0 Ian McShane, Connor Duthie Forfar 1 Jamie Bain '31 Michael Travis, John Kirkpatrick, Callum Tapping, Jamie Bain NA ATT: 4,801 Ugh, inability to take chances does it again. Complacency evident, it was not a good watch. We'll end the month in second with Forfar jumping us. Shall move on from this one quickly. Longridge made his return from injury off the bench. Table Charlie Telfer tied for first in the goal scorers, with 5. ----------------------------------------------- That ends a busy August of 6 matches. September should be a little quicker, with just the 3 matches. Hopefully have some transfer news to come along with that. Overall, got to be happy with the start we've made, just the 2 conceded and some good performances so far.
vara
-September- Finances Income Spoiler Expenditure Spoiler Team News Gomis has returned from injury and should be fit for our trip to East Fife. Longridge has suffered another injury playing for the reserves and will miss 2 weeks. We missed out on signing Kristoffer Syvertson from Clyde, transfer window closed before i could get it finalised. We have however completed to future signing of Ciaron Harkin, who will join us on a free in January, very pleased with this pickup. Round 6 - 14/9/19 East Fife 2 Anton Dowds '5, Ryan Wallace '11 Ross Davidson NA Falkirk 0 NA NA NA ATT: 1,342 2 goal keeping mistakes, 2 goals. Next. Round 7 - 22/9/19 Falkirk 4 Gregor Buchanan '2, '20, Charlie Telfer '13, Ben Hall '67 NA NA Stranraer 0 NA Ryan Thomson Jordan Allan '73 ATT: 4,563 Stranraer really didn't let us play at all today. They committed 32 fouls, to our 1. We scored 3 goals from free kicks, Tidser with 3 pin point assists. I had made a few changes both personnel wise and tactically, with Miller, Gomis and Connolly all returning to the side and a slight shift in roles up top. Didn't really get much chance to look at how it was working though with the stop-start nature of this match. Round 8 - 28/9/19 Falkirk 1 Michael Tidser PEN '77 Gary Miller NA Raith 0 NA Regan Hendry NA ATT: 4,912 It was shaping to be another one of 'those' games, which we seem to be having a few to many of. Hitting woodwork 3 times, plenty of clear attempts passed straight to the keeper etc. We relied on Tidser's penalty to get the points, which is what we deserved so i'm just satisfied. Table Transfer News Couple more additions, one longer term and one short. Jack Ruddy joins on free transfer. He'll replace Ferrie, who is in on loan, as backup and provide some competition to Mutch. Veteran Martin Woods has also joined on a free, giving us some quality in our midfield depth. He'll stay on just this season to help with our promotion push. -------------------------------------------- Back to the summit, now hopefully with a full squad and some better depth we can push on and put a solid winning run together to create breathing space over the pack. October also short with just the 3 fixtures, as we'll complete the first quarter of the season with a trip to Peterhead.
vara
-October- Injury News Duthie suffered a twisted ankle prior to our match v Peterhead and will miss most of October. Round 9 - 5/10/2019 Peterhead 1 Gary Fraser '81 NA NA Falkirk 3 Josh Todd '82, Mark Durnon '90+1, Ian McShane '90+4 NA NA ATT: 1,220 An amazingly frustrating game. 80 minutes of half chances and wayward crosses. Then they score from a free kick and suddenly everything turns into goals. With 2 weeks until the next fixture, we took on BSC Glasgow in a friendly to maintain sharpness, coming away with a 2-0 win. McMillan and Buchanan with the goals. Round 10 - 19/10/2019 Falkirk 1 David McMillan '17 Michael Tidser NA Airdrie 0 NA Ally Roy, Andy Ryan NA ATT: 5,692 26 attempts, 12 on target, 1 goal. Airdrie sat everything behind the ball here and made it very difficult for us. Much like the last game, struggled to find openings so plenty of long shots and crosses being cut out, but got the crucial goal early and we were never threatened by them. Round 11 - 26/10/2019 Dumbarton 1 Scott Glover 90+2 Callum Wilson, Scott Glover NA Falkirk 3 David McMillan '8, Gregor Buchanan '56, Charlie Telfer PEN '78 NA NA ATT: 1,298 More comfortable here, got away to a great start and controlled possession throughout, took a corner and a pen to finish them off in the second half, but a deserved 3 pts. We close October with 5 wins on the bounce. -November- Round 12 - 2/11/2019 Falkirk 2 Charlie Telfer PEN '2, Louis Longridge '90 NA NA Airdrie 0 NA Blair Lyons, Terry Masson, Graham Webster, Shaun Struthers NA ATT: 4,651 Really inserting some dominance on the league now, 6 wins and we're full of confidence. Putting multiple goals away per game is proving difficult but we're tight at the rear so a couple is usually enough. Round 13 - 9/11/2019 Clyde 1 Kristoffer Syvertson Barry Cuddihy, Chris McStay NA Falkirk 2 David McMillan '6,'9 NA NA ATT: 3,135 Round 14 - 16/11/2019 Forfar 0 NA Jamie Bain, Steven Doris NA Falkirk 2 Charlie Telfer '43,PEN '75 Ben Hall NA ATT: 1'603 Goals either side of the half get us past 2nd on the ladder. Kept the leagues to scorer Doris quiet and took control of their patch. (This was our first match since the release of 20.2.4, good to see if hasn't broken our tactics just yet) -Table- With that brace Telfer now needs the golden boot race with 10. ------------------------------------------------------------- November will continue shortly with our entrance into the FA Cup away to Brora, followed by 1 more league games to finish the month. I'll run through a Finances update and throw in a player profile on our top scorer. Delighted on our progress, everything on track to push for the immediate return to the Championship. vara
-November Cont.- Round 3 - 23/11/2019 Brora 0 NA Martin MacLean NA Falkirk 1 Declan McManus '33 NA NA ATT: 652 Complete squad rotation here and a comfortable win despite only scoring 1. £6k prize money, on we go. Fixture Update Our match at the end of November v East Fife as been postponed a week to the start of December. Finances Our average gate receipts are generally covering our player wages, so the main monthly losses are coming from bonus', staff wages, match day expenses and non-footballing costs. The projection has us finishing the season at £200k. To combat this, trying to find a new home for Conor Sammon is a start, unfortunately we cannot cancel any loans but atleast i can wipe that off of next seasons expenses. Going deep in the cup and banking some decent prizemoney would also be a huge plus. But overall, it's not too bad, providing we get promotion. Player Profile Charlie Telfer Spoiler D.O.B - 4/7/1995 Born - Carluke Position - CM/MR Charlie joined Rangers academy aged 8, in 2003 and continued his development there until 2014 where he made his debut for the first team in 4-0 victory at Stenhousmuir, coming off the bench for the last 25 minutes. After rejecting the chance the resign with the Glasgow giants, Telfer signed for Dundee United, making 53 appearances over 3 seasons, picking up a Challenge Cup winners medal along the way. During his time with the Tangerine, also having a loan spell at Livingstone. At the close of the 2016/17 season, was released. Looking for his next challenge, Charlie found himself in Holland, signing a one-year contract with Almere City, rejecting an offer from Bolton Wanderers who he had been training with at the time. The stay in the Netherlands was a disappointing one, making just 8 appearances. Returning to Scotland for the 2018/19 season, Telfer signed a one-year deal with Morton, before making his latest move to Falkirk, signing on for two years. Charlie has also represented the National team at u17,19 and 21 level. Having his best spell to date, Telfer has 10 goals from 13 appearances in the league, long may it continue. ------------------------------------------------------- With the rescheduling of our fixture v East Fife, December will have 5 matches, 2 at home followed by 3 consecutive away games, taking us through to 2020. FA Cup 4th Round we will host SPL strugglers St Mirren, a side we've already beaten once (convincingly) in the Betfred Cup. Taking a full strength squad in December with all injuries cleared. vara
-December- Round 15 - 3/12/2019 Falkirk 2 David McMillan '14, Louis Longridge '32 Raffaelle De Vita NA East Fife 1 Ryan Wallace '69 Anton Dowds NA ATT: 4'613 Bit of a game of 2 halves, very comfortable first half and 2 good goals. Second half, they didn't trouble us too much but they were still the better team. Round 16 - 7/12/2019 Falkirk 0 Charlie Telfer PEN MISS '34 NA NA Peterhead 1 Josh Campbell '21 Josh Campbell, Nathan Gilhooly, Scott Brown NA ATT: 4'523 One of those games Celtic have won the Betfred Cup, defeating Hibernian on pens, following a 0-0 draw. We receieved £19k for our participation. Transfer News We've managed to find a new home for Conor Sammon. Galway Utd came after him and offered him a contract a couple weeks ago, but he rejected. I am however, delighted to report that Mansfield have offered him a contract and he has accepted. Move will be completed when the January window opens. Round 17 - 14/12/2019 Stranraer 1 Andy Stirling '35 Andy Stirling, Jamie Hamill, Connor McManus NA Falkirk 2 Charlie Telfer PEN '4, David McMillan '45+2 Aidan Connolly, Michael Doyle NA ATT: 973 Probably our most dominant performance to date, yet couldn't be replicated on the scoreboard. But, importantly we put that defeat behind us and hopefully start a new winning streak.
vara
-December Continued- Round 18 - 21/12/2019 Raith 0 NA David McKay NA Falkirk 2 Michael Tidser '48, David McMillan '75 NA NA ATT: 3,931 Round 19 - 28/12/2019 Airdrie 0 NA NA Falkirk 5 Charlie Telfer '18, PEN '33, Ben Hall '29, David McMillan '35, Louis Longridge '79 Aidan Connolly, Gregor Buchanan, Daniel Ojo, Ian McShane NA ATT: 2'562 This what happens when our dominance and attacking threat all go to plan. 4 goals by Half Time and never threatened. Picking up 4 yellows perhaps a little unnecessary, but that would be the smallest of gripes. Table At the turn of the year, this how everything stacks up. All very positive reading here, clearly too strong for the league and asserting our dominance. Telfer outstanding from the wing while McMillan still scoring 1 in every 2 with his DLF-S role. Player of the season so far absolutely goes to Tidser. 11 assists, 8 PoM, chipped in with 3 goals and boasts a pass completion rate of 89% from 2300 attempted passes. His agent has come asking for an improved contract just recently, but we don't have the budget to entertain his demands, although he wasn't really bothered and still has another year left on his £900 contract. New signing Ciaron Harkin will join us when the window opens, he'll be a long term DM option with Gomis getting on and in his last year. Sammon heading out of Falkirk, on his way to Mansfield, clearing £1k pw from the bill. Longridge and Miller's contracts are up January 1, the former has been offered a new contract, however Miller, at 32 i'll leave as non-contracted if he fancies. With limited resources i won't be trying to strengthen too much, however have been looking for a striker to sign permanent with our 2 main options both on loan currently, and a young RB to replace Miller. vara
-January- Transfer News More of a recap of the business thats been done. Leaving the Falkirk Stadium Conor Sammon - Mansfield - Free Transfer Gary Miller - Released Calum Ferrie - Loan Terminated Raffaele De Vita - Loan Terminated Decided ending these two loans early would be very benefical, Ferrie wasn't required since we brought in Ruddy, and De Vita was scarcely used. While an injury crisis could leave us short, i'll take that chance to clear his wage off. Arrivals Ciaron Harkin on a free from Derry City. Had to pay overs to get him here, but he will be a long term replacement for Gomis who is 34 and in his last year of contract. Round 20 - 3/1/2020 Montrose 0 NA NA NA Falkirk 1 Charlie Telfer PEN '75 NA NA ATT: 1,360 Well apologies to our 749 travelling supporters for this eye-saw. 90min of kicking the ball around in their third trying to pick them apart must have been difficult to watch. Finally got the pen and a deserved 3 points. Ojo suffered a groin injury early in the first half and will miss upto 4 weeks Round 21 - 11/1/2020 Falkirk Louis Longridge '9, 90+4 David McMillan NA Dumbarton Scott Glover '83 Sam Wardrop, PJ Crossan NA ATT: 1,360 Dillon McManus also picked up an injury in the last session before this match and will miss 4 weeks. But even with that, only the 1 change to the starting lineup with Duthie in at Left Back for Ojo. It took Duthie just 8min to beat 2 men down the left and cut a ball back for Longridge to slot home. We were pretty average for the next portion of the game and our complacency was compounded by their '93rd min free kick. Not to worry though as Longridge gets on the end of a long ball and beats the keeper first time. Typically, after terminating De Vita's loan, we lose Telfer for 7 weeks with a ligament strain. Round 4 - 18/1/2020 Falkirk 1 David McMillan '3 NA NA St Mirren 0 NA Kyle Magennis, Kyle McAllister, Callum Waters NA ATT: 6,640 Brilliant performance, grabbed a very tidy early goal and battled throughout to force them to work extra hard for their chances. Rode our luck a couple times with the woodwork getting rattled, but we'll take that luck and move onto the next round. Adam Davidson made his debut off the bench. Michael Tidser copped a knock and is in doubt for the match with Clyde. Round 22 - 25/1/2020 Falkirk Ian McShane PEN '48 Josh Todd NA Clyde Michael McMullin, Craig Howie, Grant McKay, Mark Lamont NA ATT: 4,687 Struggled a little for creativity without Tidser, but McShane did a job and put away the penalty to give us the points. I'm confident, especially at home, that we'll be tight at the back so makes missing key players easier to cover. Ciaron Harkin made his debut off the bench. Table A perfect month of December, 4/4 (3 league, 1 cup) and we're 6 in a row in the league. We've drawn Ayr United away in the next round of the cup, who are struggling in the Championship and is a game we can go into confident of a good result. That match will be part of a busy February, with 6 matches, including fixtures against 2nd, 3rd and 4th currently in table. vara
Can't get enough of Falkirk?, be sure to check out @Stuniverse driving them to the SPL too, a completely different way to bring you his adventure and its a damn good read.
vara
-February- Round 23 - 1/2/2020 Falkirk 4 Aidan Connolly '19, Michael Tidser PEN '3, 68, '90+2 NA NA Forfar 0 NA Jordan Kirkpatrick NA ATT: 4,528 Welcome back Tidser, the man is phenomenal. Sensational performance from our key man and he knows how to score peaches. His second, this top drawer free kick and finishes his hatrick with this belter, following brilliant play that started from the keeper. 4-0 vs playoff pushing Forfar, we shouldn't be here but this is an enjoyable ride so far. Round 24 - 4/2/2020 Falkirk 0 NA NA NA Stranraer 1 Leon Murphy '24 NA NA ATT: 4,514 Well this just shows where our squad depth is at. Several changes due to the short turnaround in matches, cup match next and we were at home v bottom. We never looked like scoring. Sure, theirs was a goal line scrap, but its all thats required. Round 5 - 8/2/2020 Ayr Utd 0 NA Daniel Harvie, Steven Bell, Connor Malley NA Falkirk 0 NA David McMillan, Gregor Buchanan NA ATT: 3,199 Very tight game, definitely the right result. Ref did his best to help them out, with 2minutes more played than was allotted for injury time, while they had a free kick and a few corners in that time. Never the less, stalemate and a replay at home in 10 days time. News With a few niggles and knocks over the last few weeks, we've almost returned to full strength. Just Telfer left to return from his 7 week injury, he's back in light training and will miss the trip to East Fife as well as our cup replay, but 'm hopeful he'll be available to play some part at Peterhead. Louis Longridge has signed a contract extension, keeping hmim with us until 2022 Takeover rumours have been floating around in recent weeks, but nothing has advanced beyond rumour at this stage. The Scottish FA Cup Quarter Final draw has been done and if we can get past Ayr we will have a trip to Kilmarnock after they saw off League 2 Brechin. Round 25 - 15/2/2020 East Fife 0 NA Liam Watt NA Falkirk 0 NA Connor Duthie NA ATT: 1,228 3 blanks in a row is very frustrating. This game, 15 shots to 0. Just plain wasteful and this is not the time to start getting stagnant. Round 5 Replay - 19/2/2020 Falkirk 0 NA Morgaro Gomis, Aidan Connolly NA Ayr Utd 2 Luke McCowan '7, Alan Forrest '66 Connor Malley, Jordan Houston NA ATT: 6,079 Another rubbish performance and we're out of the cup. Which is annoying because we really should have beaten Ayr and to top it off we have the yips. They had better sort themselves out soon, matches v 2nd and 3rd coming up. £10k prize money for reaching this round, hopefully we'll get a little more from the pool at the close of the comp.
