Brief History

Brentford Football Club is a professional association football club based in Brentford, Greater London, England. The club competes in the Championship, the second tier of English football. The club was founded on 10 October 1889 and has played its home matches at Griffin Park since 1904, after a nomadic existence playing at five previous grounds.

Brentford's most successful period came during the 1930s, when it achieved three consecutive top-six finishes in the top flight. The club has been Football League Trophy finalists on three occasions. Its main rivals are fellow West London clubs Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.

Nickname - Brentford's nickname is "The Bees". The nickname was unintentionally created by students of Borough Polytechnic in the 1890s, when they attended a match and shouted the college's chant "buck up Bs" in support of their friend and then-Brentford player Joe Gettins. Local newspapers misheard the chant as "Buck up Bees" and the nickname stuck.[4]

Rivalry

Brentford's main rivals are Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.[28] Brentford have a long-standing rivalry with Fulham.[29] In the past this fixture has been marred by crowd violence.[30] Brentford's rivalry with Queens Park Rangers intensified in 1967, when Rangers failed in an attempted takeover of Brentford, a move which, had it succeeded, would have seen Rangers move into Griffin Park and Brentford quit the Football League.[31] As with the Fulham rivalry, this fixture sees passions run high amongst both sets of supporters with local pride at stake.[32]

International Links

In February 2013, it was announced that Brentford had entered into partnership with Icelandic 1. deild karla club UMF Selfoss, which would enable Brentford to send youth and development squad players to Iceland to gain experience.[33] The partnership also sees the two clubs exchanging coaching philosophies and allows Brentford to utilise UMF Selfoss' scouting network.[33] In May 2013, the Brentford staff forged links with Ugandan lower league club Gulu United as part of the "United for United" project, aimed at forming the region's first youth training camp and identifying talented players.[34] Brentford owner Matthew Benham became majority shareholder in Danish club FC Midtjylland in 2014 and the staff of both clubs share ideas.[35]

Stadium

Griffin Park

Griffin Park is a football ground in Brentford, situated in the London Borough of Hounslow, Greater London. It has been the home ground of Championship club Brentford F.C. since it was built in 1904. The ground is situated in a predominantly residential area and is known for being the only English league football ground to have a pub on each corner. The ground gets its name from the griffin, featured in the logo of Fuller's Brewery, which at one point owned the orchard on which the stadium was built.

The Brentford Community Stadium - Due to move in 2020

Brentford Community Stadium is a stadium currently under construction in Brentford, west London with a projected capacity of 17,505. It is planned to be the home of Brentford FC and London Irish RFC.

Owner - Matthew Benham

image.jpeg.edf2cc1ae95af7c84459cb117001f6f2.jpeg

Matthew Benham is a popular name amongst those in the football and analytics world. He has done a fantastic job to create the air of mystery that surrounds both him and his reputation. Unlike most multi-millionaires, Benham prefers to stay as far from the spotlight as he possibly could. But that has not stopped him from making some incredibly lavish investments, including buying two football clubs.

Matthew Benham is the owner of the English football club Brentford as well as the Danish football club Midtjylland. However, where did Matthew Benham get all the funds to make these lavish investments? Benham is the owner and founder of two very successful companies that are based in the United Kingdom. These companies are both in the gambling industry and are known as Matchbook and Smartodds.

Matchbook is a popular sport betting exchange community that is driven by cutting edge technology, while Smartodds is Smartodds provides statistical research and sports modelling services to customers. Both these companies have been highly regarded within the gambling industry.

Professional Gambler and Football Club owner, Matthew Benham is a notoriously private man. So much so that it is nearly impossible to find a thorough interview with him anywhere online. The Multi-Millionaire is probably most famous for buying out and taking over the Brentford football team. He has rarely been found discussing any personal matters that cover the topic of just how he came to be as successful as he is. While he has previously been known as the mystery investor, it is no surprise that people are very curious to know who Matthew Benham really is.

Matthew Benham is the owner of not only Brentford was also of FC Midtjylland. He is a highly successful businessman who has been a pioneer in the field of analytics and football alike.

Matthew Benham studied at the prestigious University of Oxford from 1986 to 1989, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics. After graduating, Matthew Benham managed to secure his first job as an associate at Yamaichi International Europe in 1990.

Matthew Benham has always been a football enthusiast and has often recalled the memory of attending his first match at the age of 11. It was a match between Brentford and Colchester in 1979. Even though he mentions that he can’t remember much, he says that he does recall the score – Brentford won 1 – 0, and he remembers that it was Jim McNichol who scored.

This was where Matthew Benham’s love for the Brentford Football Club really began – a love that will one day lead him to buy up the whole team.

If you want to read more about Matthew Benham then here is a link to the page I used to get the information https://www.onlinecasinomonsters.com/matthew-benham-successful-bloke-world-online-gambling/?cn-reloaded=1

First Team Squad

Goalkeepers

1- David Raya

Raya.jpg.3d655308b500e58a8c490114bb73e936.jpg

13 - Patrik Gunnarsson

Gunnarsson.jpg.e63537a1185dac90a25c61ac251174ef.jpg

25 - Ellery Balcombe

?preset=square&greyscale=false

Goalkeeper Analysis - You have 3 decent to good goalkeepers here.

David Raya as well all know from playing FM is an amazing goalie and Brentford got themselves a bargain when they signed him for £3m

Patrik Gunnarsson and Ellery Balcombe are decent back ups with Balcombe being the best of the 2 rated at 3 and half star potential

Defenders

5 - Ethan Pinnock

Pinnock.jpg.ad7e89ae6ea0a717516c370abe20686d.jpg

Club Captain - 18 - Pontius Jansson

Jansson.jpg.99a69b93a12576e65c7f6e529d642936.jpg

3 - Rico Henry

?preset=square&greyscale=false

22 - Henrik Dalsgaard

?preset=square&greyscale=false

Analysis - Jansson, Pinnock, Henry and Dalsgaard are your strongest defense with decent back up in Thompson, Field, Jeanvier and Clarke amongst others.

Midfielders

6 - Christian Norgaard

?preset=square&greyscale=false

8 - Mathias Jensen

?preset=square&greyscale=false

14 - Josh Dasilva

?preset=square&greyscale=false

19 - Bryan Mbeumo

?preset=square&greyscale=false

7 - Sergi Canos

?preset=square&greyscale=false

10 - Saio Benrahma

?preset=square&greyscale=false

Analysis - Brentford tend to play with 3 centre midfielders which from looking online is usually Dasilva, Nargaard and Jensen and that leaves their talented wingers Benrahma and Canos to cause defenses havok. Benrahma is very talented and will probably have a few Prem teams after him soon enough.

Mbeumo is very talented as well and you might want to play him upfront, he has got 12 goals in 22 games for me so far, at one point he was averaging a goal a game but drifited a bit so keep an eye on him.

Forwards

11 - Ollie Watkins

?preset=square&greyscale=false

9 - Nikolaos Karelis

?preset=square&greyscale=false

Analysis - Ollie Watkins is your main guy upfron with Karelis being a good back up, like I said you can play Mbeumo up front who bangs the goals in and you got a few good youth prospects in Forss and Castillo.

B-Team Prospects

2 - Dominc Thompson

Thompson.jpg.f3ec5b7f468c851426556201d61f77cc.jpg

Thompson is rated as a really good full back who can play as right and left back, has a 4 star potential.

29 - Mads Bech Sorensen

?preset=square&greyscale=false

Sorensen is a decent centre defender who can also play as a left back, rated 3 stars potential.

31 - Jan Zamburek

?preset=square&greyscale=false

A verstatile, young midfielder who can play anywhere in midfield, he has decent all around attributes and gets better over time.

Why Pick Brentford ?

The reason why I picked Brentford was their unique approach to recruitment

What Brentford did a few years a go was get rid of their academy due to the fact they were sick of the big Prem teams nicking their youngsters and not getting much for them.

They decided to change their recruitment process by scrapping the academy and simply bringing in kids released from Prem teams aged between 17-20 years old and also scouring the world for bargains.

What they do is buy cheap and sell for profit, their owner Matthew Benham is a profressional gambler so you expect that approach.

Some of the players they have signed cheap and sold are the following.

Scott Hogan - Signed from Rochdale for £750k and sold for £11 million.

Ezri Konza - Signed for £3m and sold for £12m

Neal Maupay - Signed for £1.6m and sold for £15m

Chris Mepham - Come through the youth ranks at Brentford and sold for £12m

James Tarkowski - Signed for £350k and sold for £4m

They use their own data company called Smartodds to find players who thrive with certain stats you wouldn't normally scout them for.

They usually sign Scandinavian players especially Danish players as they have that link with Matthew Benhams other club he owns FC Midtjylland.

If you want to read more about this then please read these articles to give you more of an idea of how they recruit as I am not the best at describing this.

Here are a few articles.

League table so far in my Brentford save

image.thumb.png.0c0ef8a740b71419f0c43bdc04e4601b.png

Here is the tactic I use

image.thumb.png.cf7dfe660a762d1971f4b846e7f07bf5.png

I went 16 games in the league without losing and went 10 games in a row without conceeding a goal.

@Ronaldo Beckham Very nice. I just hope Mbeumo can carry us this season as a pressing forward as Karelis is out for 9 months :(

Any ways, transfer window is shut and we've done a little bit of business.

Soon as I took over I knew what I wanted from my backroom staff so set about getting that right from day one. In came 5 new scouts (sacked the old ones), new assistant manager in Jason Dodd (pretty much my go to outside the top flight) as well as adding the likes of David Platt and Denis Bergkamp as U23 manager and first team coach.

For scouts I decided to focus on Scandinavia (as we have roots there already) and France for picking up talent, with us also scouting L1 & L2 (due to club vision of signing from lower leagues). This all led up to the following signings...

Mattias Jakobsen

423ba5cc865febcce2b1c98969106d24.png

Joins us from FC Kobenhavn for 500k (rising to 1.1m)

Mohamed Daramy

c06fd984df360b318f81787a4dd8e4fa.png

Also joins us from FC Kobenhavn for 700k (rising to 1.8m)

Nicklas Rojkjaer

e6759a8044413a6d34c8c0b4b38cb46f.png

Joins us on a free transfer when his contract runs out at Esbjerg (Jan 1st 2020).

I did try to bring in others but just couldn't get them over the line, we really needed another CB but there just wasn't value for money around.

So, this is how we're going to line up during the season (ignore the CB's, both Pinnock and Pontus are out for 2 weeks).

ca21df728cdc4ad1993221a8dcbd2d04.png

I just feel this system is pretty much perfectly suited for this squad. Still not set on the central midfield roles though and will experiment throughout the current campaign.

So far so good, winning pens for days (3 in 2 games) and even showing our metal against Boro after going down to 10 men (and blowing a 2-0 lead).

4af5bf1ff064eed88fb64f253477aac6.png

2d1997985800e3834561c3bb85df8868.png

Very early days but I feel, if we can keep the majority of the current first team squad fit, we can certainly push for a play off spot (which is what the board want).

As with Brentford IRL I've gone against every thing I normally do and not even bothered with the U18's/U23's. Sending out our best prospects on loan and not even employed a HOYD. I think my plan for this save is to pick up a few more (if allowed) affiliate clubs and send out our young players there to gain better match experience and help them develop (I hope) into first team players. What this will also do as well is help to drive up player prices so we can profit from them in the long run (as with Brentford IRL).

So there you have it, few months in and we've got the backroom setup as I want, loaned out our promising young players, found a system that we'll stick with and started to implement our club philosophy of young, hungry, hard working players.

Here's to many years (I hope) in London! :brock:

Nice guide @Ronaldo Beckham and good luck to you and @Fubz with Brentford.

Fubz, your formation is very similar to mine and the real life system they use. In case you were interested, they use Watkins as CF with Mbeumo on the right and Benrahma on the left, and Norgaard  is generally the deeper of the three central midfielders. Not that you have to follow this of course, just thought you might like to know.

Yeah, I tried that exact setup in pre-season and it was horrid mate, don't know why, couldn't even break down our U23's!

Watkins is very poor for me, I hate players with 'shoots from distance' PPM so any decent offer for him and he can go tbh. Benrahma has been on fire as a winger (A) for us, winning 4 pens in 4 games (converting 3) and grabbing 2 assists.

As much as I want to play Norgaard DM as DLP I'm slightly scared by his 'arrives late in opp area' PPM. Last thing I want is to get caught out in the 90th min because he fancied a forward run, lol.

I'll use this season to experiment a lot, I'm trying to get that PPM removed from Norgaard (which will then mean him dropping to DM) so I can use Zamburek as a Mez on support in CM. With the board only wanting play offs I can afford to make mistakes here and there this season and tweak the tactic to get the best out of us.

Be interesting to see how the pair of us line up and do if we're pretty much using the same system (tbh, it was a no brainer for me to choose this).

Im just starting my second season with Brentford, I play Spurs at home in the new stadium, managed to get promoted finishing second behind Huddersfield with Leeds going up in the PO's.

Mbuemo, AF,  finished top scorer with 26 in the league and Watkins who im playing left IW scored 22, Signed Stevie Mallan from Hibs to play BBM alongside Jensen or Norsgaard who play DLP, Marcondes came back from loan and I sat him behind Mbuemo in AM he was ok but inconsistent, ive just signed Thiago Almada to vie for that position.

Benrahma was also very inconsistent so swapped between him and Canos, Canos going through a few green patches and banging in a few goals from AMR (IW) ive signed Jarod Bowen and sold Benrahma in pre season, so my set up for the premier league is:-

................................................Raya

Dalsgaard...………..Jansson...……….Dael Fry...………….Henry

…………………………..Mallan…………...Jensen

Bowen...……………………...Almada...………………………..Watkins

…………………………………Mbuemo

Sorry at work and cant do screenshots.

@mrmojorisen I'm thinking of switching to a 4231 when Marcondes comes back, this 433 is very inconsistent for us atm. Only lost 1 at Leeds but we've played well below what we're capable of. Even though we sit 2nd in the table after 9 games I'm not happy with how it's going. Relying too much on opposition mistakes and set pieces (even though set to default). Don't know what it is with me and saves but, I can't get Gegenpress to work (even though every one says it's OP as heck this FM again).

@dothestrand I only have the English leagues loaded, do have 382k players loaded though (it's how I always play 1 club saves). It allows quick processing times with the advantage of Newgens from any where in world (plus it's very good for finding cheap talent early on).

Also, nice to see that Brentford seems a popular save this year, very interesting club with a squad ready for the Prem (with a few small tweaks).

Interesting thread . But how does the whole policy with youth work out in FM? Basically Brentford will not get any youth candidates? I did saw in the editor that the youth rating is 1.

I just got my first youth intake and they were really bad, only 1 star potential and less, I am hoping to persuade the board to cut back on my youth recruitment hopefully.

Brentford Season 1 Review

401191356_BrentfordLogo.png.4ed1370f689c5ecb9fba6809bf83379c.png

image.thumb.png.ef53e6b250955a1aacfbc824c89e4a80.png

So I managed to get promoted in my first season in charge.

Clinched the title beating Preston 1-0.

image.thumb.png.c7dead89eb4dd7cb6d82e34d7db019e2.png

image.thumb.png.8d8237a3485a2e3323c37e6c8a52bf5e.png

I managed to break some Brentford club records as well

image.thumb.png.60f88f8d206927bae84b2e18eb4044b6.png

image.thumb.png.d102551bf73e843f14c9dc5ce9617a7e.png

My main players were Ferdy Druijf who I managed to get on loan for the season, he banged 19 goals in 36 games, I then managed to sign him for £8 million spread over 48 months, I think a bargain in the wrong run.

image.thumb.png.0f39700f532ab34bfea2e670857a9845.png

Bryan Mbeumo was my top scorer with 23 goals in 47 games, he had his dry patches but overall banged them in for me even though he wasn't a striker I made him the main up fron with Druijf, them 2 formed a really good partnership.

image.thumb.png.cae3e4bf408284eabb0e350519c985f9.png

I need to mention this man is Mathias Jensen who was ever present for me and very consistent, he had the best average rating and also scored 5 goals and had 10 assists.

image.thumb.png.30f13a839bc37f03fa2d4e0d191b6f66.png

This is what the board have given me for my first season in the Prem, I am happy with that as my team is very strong already.

Season 2 - Transfer Update

I spent 51 million in the summer and clawed 22m back from transfer out.

Here are my main summer signings.

Adama Traore

image.thumb.png.708cdba1b8c8b343db26f99b2afa497a.png

I paid 17.5m for him over 48 months, I wouldn't normally buy a player for that much but its Traore who is one of my favorite players and I am thinking of playing him up front.

Kasper Dolberg

image.thumb.png.bbcb2478d6af94188e530bfb0ee5505b.png

Kasper Dolberg another 17.5m transfer, after I signed Traore my DOF made an offer for Dolberg, I was going to cancel it but as I have a connection with Danish players and I needed something extra up front I decided to take the plunge.

The reason why I eventually decided to sign Traore and Dolberg is I reckon I can make profit on these players as they are young enough to improve and the big clubs will come calling after a year or 2.

Looking forward to see how @Fubz and @dothestrand are doing with Brentford and how they are approaching it.

@Ronaldo Beckham Wow good progress! I'm still in S1 pre-season and have only signed Lewis Ferguson from Aberdeen really to beef up my CM options. I've signed a couple of young players from the French leagues for very little (FCSM are a great club to raid). I let Josh Clarke leave as he was never likely to play and his deal is up at the end of the season - might as well save those wages. I have my scouts on the lookout for young talent and I'm looking through every European league so I'm trying not to be too impulsive. I reckon we're probably fine with the squad we have at the moment. It would need someone very good to come in now (we probably have around 3m left of our budget). I wanted to sign AAB's Lucas Andersen, who could play anywhere across the CM and AM positions (formerly of Ajax) - I don't think we're a big enough club for him yet. I've seen him go to Premier League teams in other games.

Yeah I got rid of Clarke and Canos as they weren't performing well enough and I felt like the Prem was a step too high for them. Josh DaSilva is doing well for me now in my 2nd season even though he never played for me in the first season so that is a nice surprise.

I also signed Demari Gray as he was a bargain at 8m, I swap with Traore.

Nice to see a Brentford thread. I have almost finished the first season with them and have already secured promotion, most likely in 2nd place behind Fulham who are 4 points ahead of me with two games to play.

Played an adapted Gegenpress in a 4-3-3, fairly similar to @Fubz but with a AP-A and BBM-S in the CM slots.

Only signings were Brewster on loan from Liverpool, he scored 23 league goals and started pretty much every game until getting injured and missing the last 6 games of the season. Will try and get him on loan again in the Prem (I did an initial enquiry and Liverpool wanted £115m for him!!!!) and look to get another striker to support him on a permanent deal. Also signed Maximillan Wittek from Greuther Fürth for £1.8m and was a good rotation option with Henry at LB. Boosted the squad in Jan with Herbie Kane, again on loan from Liverpool, to rotate with Dasilva as my BBM as he was inconsistent. Had £2m future fee agreed, which I had to activate in March as MLS teams were sniffing round him to sign him when his contract expired at the end of the season.

Watkins, Benrhama and Canos were all inconsistent. Watkins had a good run towards the end of the season, Canos was probably the most effective overall. The wide areas are where I need to strengthen next season as a priority. Will probably sell Valencia as he couldn't hold down a place in the team as I don't play with an AMC and he didn't impress in the wide positions or as an AP in the CM slot.

Looking forward to seeing what the summer window brings.

I am thinking of starting my Brentford save again as I think I have ruined it by getting promoted too quickly and also buying luxury players like Traore, Demari Gray etc. I felt like I have gone against the club ethos and kind of ruined the fun for me.

I might do a season in the Prem and start again with stricter rules in place for recruitment.

If it helps.. the first thought i had when i read your update about getting in traore and dolberg were the same.. it didn't feel like Brentford type signings, far too recognisable names..

But on the other hand, who's to know how Brentford would handle life in the prem, they might well see the likes of Dolberg as the perfect signing ( a player with obvius talent who isn't performing to his heights) ...  I'd say, if you are having fun, keep the save going.. but if you feel you've strayed away, why not start again..

I might get mine going this evening.

Edit: just loaded up to look at what i might want to do...

Couple of names i want to bring in ..

Strelec - Slovak teenager his great finishing, could become amazing, has massive sell on value.

piy4jXJ.png

Valverde - Brazilian 21 year old playing for santos reserves worth only 90k?? madness (second eu nationality too) .. think he'll cost me 100k-500k .. either way, great sell on value.

B8WLS7Q.png

Mattias Jakobsen - 16 year old Dane, currently seen as a centreback, clearly has solid well rounded stats to make him a wonderful CM .. i see no weaknesses.. super cheap

hEAzN7Y.png

Sondre Auklend - this dude is 16, can play anywhere in the final third and is valued at £475 .. no brainer!

iS1rpc7.png

Nacho Huertas - this is more of a project really, he was posted on the hidden gems thread and he looks interesting, want to see what i can do with him.

As @Welshace says, it comes down to how much you're enjoying it with the choices you made. If you do start again, I would suggest not bringing in loan players if you're trying to keep close to their real model as this isn't really something the club does. Not to say you have to follow that method though - e.g. I'm not planning to use their money-ball worldwide scouting ideas if I continue my Brentford career, but will be using their formation and style of play.

P.S. Welshace, I saw Villa sign Strelec in my time at Bolton so he would be a good gamble on the transfer policy front.

Thanks @Welshace and @Jogo Bonito I appreciate the advice.

I have decided to start again with Brentford, I aint signing any superstars. I am looking to sign mostly Scandinavian players and a few English players who are young, I signed Luke Matheson from Rochdale for 5.5m over 48 months.

Here are a few of my other signings

Jeppe Hojbjerg - £850k

Kristoffer Haugen - £1m

Frank Onyeka - £775k

Oliver Olsen - £750k

I signed a few other players including @Welshace reccomendations Nacho Huertas and Sondre Aukland so thank you for the recommendations.

I didn't want to post them all in here as I signed loads of cheap young Scandinavians.

I beat Birmingham 3-1 in my first game of the season.

I would be happy to just make the play offs this time as I would prefer to stay in the Championship for a few seasons instead of getting promoted straight away.

@Ronaldo Beckham I recognise a few of those players from my shortlist. I'm willing to go quite late in pulling the trigger as none of the young Scandinavians would be likely to be anything other than backups at the moment. I wonder if you ever reach a point when the relationship with FC Midtjylland is at a point where you can have their players for free. I'd quite like Evander in my CM!

Yeah Evander is one of those very good players who I just want to be cheaper than he is... and he just doesn't come cheap... looks a very good player.

In my 2nd season of my last save FC Midtjylland decided to end the relationship, I can't remember the reason but I think it was cos the club got a rep boost or something like that. Either that or it was Brentford got promoted.

The Danish league has a lot of good cheap players. It is a goldmine.

It is, but I'm not sure about stacking the B team with 18yo Danes with 5*  potential especially when you don't have great youth facilities and it isn't a youth save. You've got someone like Mathias Ross (AAB) who'd come cheap and could develop into a great defender, but he'd be less good than Racic. I want these guys to be good enough to be playing now.

Yeah I know what you mean, I like to rotate my team a lot though and also I will or have sent a lot of my signings off on loan anyway so it is fine and if it gets really bad I will trim the squad down.

Ideally what I want to do is sell my oldest players or players with high resell value and then just promote someone from the reserves to fill their spot in the team.

@Ronaldo Beckham Can understand in a way why you'd want to start again if you wanted to keep the 'Brentford way' going. It can be very hard on FM (when getting promoted to the Prem) to hold back on transfers 1st season.

There's been some good progress on all of your saves it seems, I've hit Jan on mine and really getting frustrated with my front 3. Watkins moaned about me fining him after a very poor season so far and asked for a transfer. Jumped at the chance but no one wants him

Mbuemo has been extremely poor as a PF and Benrahma goes missing in most games (which is a shame as I was looking forward to managing him in Champ). Despite not having a single player with over 8 goals so far we're lying 3rd in the league (thanks to the defence and Jensen) and I can see us maybe making the play offs from here (which is fine by me).

Tactic wise we have a solid base and the midfield roles are fine (changed the CM role to a Mez in home games and BBM in away). Sold Jeanvier to Swansea for 4.8m after he kept asking for a new contract after every sub appearance he made (he wanted a wage rise of 14k!!) and I'm on the lookout for striker who can actually play as a striker!

I can honestly say from my save though, we are far from ready for Prem football if the 1st half of this season is any thing to go by. We've already lost 5 games, 3 against the bottom 4 teams and just can't score goals to save our lives (despite creating the most chances in the league by a mile!). Much work to do but hardly any transfer or wage budget and finances are in bad shape. I really need to sell Ollie Watkins this window and find a couple of gems ready to step straight into the 1st team.

Yeah Canos, Benrahma and Watkins didn't do that well for me but did enough before I replaced them with better players.

I am hoping to get better results with these 3 players in my current Brentford save as the aim is to get big money for them and re-invest.

Mbeumo plays better as an AF with someone with him up front.

If you go on Steam workshop if you type in Brentford there is a 4-4-2 tactic specifically for Brentford that I downloaded and used well.

Try that tactic and see how you get on @Fubz

Personally I think it's good to have some challenges rather than all being plain sailing. You're still well positioned even if there have been some disappointing performances from your forward players.

Below is a snap of my Brentford squad. There is still one more pre-season friendly to  play, but I'm not planning to bring anyone else in. My three acquisitions are Ebere Eze (QPR),  Shandon Baptiste (Oxford) and Paul Kalambayi (AFC Wimbledon).

768944125_Brentfordsquad1.1.thumb.png.76298a12d1a974bfd10ecab1afa1ff9b.png

2043591834_Brentfordsquad1.2.thumb.png.01ed35845b32bb2ca821ba55620067c3.png

I'm not currently playing a No. 10 but Eze would be best suited to that role or will play from an advanced position on the left or as an attacking midfielder or advanced playmaker from the deeper slot. Baptiste was going to sign for Brentford in real life before injury curtailed the move, and he is both a typical Brentford signing and exactly what is needed by me to supplement the two Danes and Josh Dasilva. Kalambayi was a cheap deal and is a perfect 4th choice central defender. He is also is a former youth player at the club and comes with HGC status.

Outgoings were Valencia (not needed as I have enough options for the flanks), Karelis (not involved in real life and I didn't want him), Marcondes (was out on loan in real life until a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't want him) and Hardy (because he has been sold in real life during the current window).

I recalled Forss and Balcombe from their loans and promoted Roerslev and Thompson from the U23 squad as cover for the full-back positions rather than make more signings. I've got a couple of the U23 squad out on loan, but will be keeping the better ones around as further back-up to my main squad.

Balcombe was recalled as Raya got injured in pre-season and is out for two months and I think he is slightly ahead of Gunnarsson in his development. He will be temporary second choice behind Daniels until Raya is back. I recalled Forss as he has done well at AFC Wimbledon and he will be understudy to Watkins as my central striker.

Mokotjo and Jeanvier have not yet been available for selection in any of the friendlies (neither has the injured Baptiste) which has been a little bit frustrating, but I feel I have the right balance in my squad when they are added to it. With everyone fit, the team and bench would look something like this. The obvious gamble is relying on just Watkins and Forss as strikers, but Mbeumo or one of the youngsters could fill in if absolutely necessary.

Awesome signings @Jogo Bonito I heard of Baptiste the other day so might scout him and Kalambayi. I would look at signing Eze but I feel like he will be too expensive for how I want to manage Brentford.

I also got rid of Karelis, Valencia and Mokotko as they didn't play much in my previous save and wanted the extra funds to bring in other players that I signed. I also will get rid of Jeanvier in January as usually clubs come in with decent offers for him in January.

Good luck with Brentford Jogo, I look forward to seeing how it goes, I wonder if you end up doing more then a season with them lol.

I've always had an interest in starting at Brentford at some point, however how is the fact they have no academy reflected in the game? If they have no academy then this puts me off managing them.

You do have an existing U23 squad and staff plus U18 squad (no staff) so I imagine you could bring in some U18 staff (I haven't tried).

As Jogo B mentioned.. they do have the usual two teams under the main one... in game they have cut almost all funding to youth investment though so the facilities are basic and everything is into recruitment instead... of course you could always change this over the seasons and gradually bring back in youth investment.

Pre-season is done, not too bad except the Wycombe bore draw. First up is Birmingham at Griffin Park.

@Jogo Bonito Shandon Baptiste has been on my radar for Brentford or some other championship side for a while after his irl exploits.. he seems like he might get expensive though consider Oxford think so much of him.. how much did he cost you?

I had to use create a club mode in order to do the loan recalls and release those I didn't want, hence getting rid of players to equal values as a balancing act. I think the transfer values work different on this mode as his current squad valuation is £2.4 million and I imagine it would take double that to get him in the correct manner. I just wanted to manage him and Eze in a club that has lots of players I like and where football is being played in an attractive way. I've never used this mode until FM 20 but find it to be quite enjoyable. It takes absolutely ages to set up but as long as you are sensible, you can just make some minor tweaks and have a squad you really like.

I thought the create a club mode was one where you create a brand new club from scratch or have I got it wrong what you were saying.

Cheers, FM playing time is limited these days and takes so long to get through seasons with all the interaction that this works for me at the moment. In the past, I would only manage a handful of clubs per series and miss out on managing lots of players I like in the domestic leagues. I appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea but I try to keep it real at the same time.
