AMBROSE TO RETURN HOME

BairnsNews understand Nigerian Premier League sides Enyimba and Kano Pillars have lodged bids for Falkirk's 33 year-old centre-back Efe Ambrose. With Ambrose unlikely to get a work permit when his current Bairns deal expires in the summer, Ambrose is expected to return home to Nigeria.

Pre-match v Hibernian (H) - Ladbrokes Premiership (15)

Match Preview

SP15_Hibs_preview.thumb.png.6d5de05fbca4afa795aa3e506f5354ba.png

BairnsNews: After your last match against Celtic, now you have another big match against Hibs. Can you bounce back and keep your record of only losing to Celtic in the Premiership?

Stuniverse: We want to bounce back and, at home, we have a good chance with Ye Bairns fans behind us, but we're under no illusions, Hibs are a good side and it won't be easy.

Team Selection

Unavailable:
Steven Boyd (broken foot)
Michael Doyle (hernia)

Doubtful:
Josh Mullin (dislocated shoulder-30)
Calum Macdonald (ankle-90)
Alan Forrest (knee-90)

SP15_Hibs_selection.thumb.png.c780458b0c0388686f886aacd38c5104.png

BairnsNews: Two changes.

Stuniverse: Yes. Barry Maguire comes in for Efe Ambrose and Louis Longridge takes the place of Anthony McDonald.

Post-match: Falkirk (1) 1-2 (0) Hibernian

SP15_Hibs_report.thumb.png.b264936c60b6d8fbacc3966f484896ac.png

BairnsNews: You looked good for 70 minutes and then the match got away from you. There was a lot of commotion in your dugout after only a few minutes, what was that all about?

Stuniverse: Yeah. We started off playing a Balanced style, as we'd played against Celtic, and that was my mistake [I forgot], so I quickly changed to an Attacking style.

There was never much in it. Before the break, Jahmal Hector-Ingram scored in-off-the-post from Lewis Smith's cross. In the second-half we had some chances, but couldn't add to our lead. They equalised with a wonder goal from Bright Enobhakare. Hibs grew in confidence then, we lost our way a bit, and they snatched a winner through Stevie Mallan.

SP15_Hibs_lgTab.thumb.png.6800e56cbc58b74d5fa1bf74bf04dc69.png

BairnsNews: After a good run, you've now lost two on the spin.

Stuniverse: I know. We have to stop losing games before it becomes a habit.

Pre-match v St Johnstone (a) - Ladbrokes Premiership (16)

BairnsNews: Some of Ye Bairns fans are disappointed in the sale of Ambrose. What do you say to them?

Stuniverse: I understand their disappointment, I'm disappointed too. I would've loved to have kept Efe here longer, and he wanted to stay, but the work permit situation meant that wasn't going to be possible. Efe wanted to find a new club and get on with the rest of his career. He's been instrumental in helping us climb from League One, to the Premiership, and make a very decent start this season. We didn't want to stand in his way and, having signed on a free transfer, we made a profit on Efe as we sold him for a fee.

Match Preview

SP16_StJohnstone_preview.thumb.png.87cecad7c6f040f843760dbfccbef3bc.png

BairnsNews: After two defeats, away to 10th placed St Johnstone is a good opportunity to end your losing streak, isn't it?

Stuniverse: It is. But it won't be easy at McDiarmid Park, and only a fool would think otherwise.

Team Selection

Unavailable:
Steven Boyd (broken foot)
Michael Doyle (hernia)
Wallace Duffy (ill)

Doubtful:
Josh Mullin (dislocated shoulder-45)

Alan Forrest (knee-90)

SP16_StJohnstone_selection.thumb.png.7fe29b3f7bc3231dffaef9c5086e0609.png

BairnsNews: Two changes.

Stuniverse: Yes. Wallace Duffy is feeling under the weather which means a start for Tom Grivosti. Michael Tidser returns in midfield for Ethan Hamilton

Post-match: St Johnstone (0) 1-3 (2) Falkirk

SP16_StJohnstone_report.thumb.png.5b0f6e6dd06a8d05a15bff12c999a2d6.png

BairnsNews: Back to winning ways. Congratulations.

Stuniverse: Thank you. We got off to a great start scoring straight from the kick-off when Adam Idah headed in a Lewis Smith cross after barely 20 seconds. Adam added a second, before the break, after Jamal Hector-Ingram put him clean through with a delightful through-ball. St Johnstone pulled one back in the closing minutes, only for Craig Sibbald to put Adam through to complete his hat-trick and restore our two-goal lead.

SP16_StJohnstone_lgTab.thumb.png.f6d9589b41ec13fc0a63fef1c4ccc625.png

BairnsNews: You're surprising a lot of people by hanging in there in 4th place. Can you keep up a challenge for a European place, do you think?

Stuniverse: At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, we're going to take things one game at a time, try and win as many points as we can, and then see where that leaves us by the end of the season.

Pre-match v Motherwell (H) - Ladbrokes Premiership (17)

Match Preview

SP17_Motherwell_preview.thumb.png.9d47d62ec339b7f3617516c07132bda2.png

BairnsNews: You're four points ahead of Motherwell, can you stretch that to seven today?

Stuniverse: Well we won 3-2 at Fir Park earlier in the season. That gives us confidence. But I'm sure Motherwell will want to close the gap to one point. We're expecting a difficult game, but we're ready for the challenge.

Team Selection

Unavailable:
Steven Boyd (broken foot)
Cammy Bell (abdominal)

Doubtful:
Josh Mullin (dislocated shoulder-45)
Michael Doyle (hernia-60)

SP17_Motherwell_selection.thumb.png.5f68ab34284f93a3a8c086d7d11e2cef.png

BairnsNews: Only the one change today.

Stuniverse: Yes. Jordan Marshall has been training well and he's been knocking on my door asking for more playing time. Today he gets a start ahead of Calum Macdonald.

Post-match: Falkirk (0) 1-1 (0) Motherwell

SP17_Motherwell_report.thumb.png.3cf35f2be8afb32b618571d9e890a89f.png

BairnsNews: You looked like you'd won it late on, only to concede an even later equaliser. Did changing your back-four with five minutes to go cost you?

Stuniverse: We put ourselves in a great position when Lewis Smith rolled home the rebound late-on, after Adam Idah rounded the goalkeeper and hit the post. Unfortunately, we weren't able to see the game out at 1-0. I took TJ Eyoma off late on because, frankly, he'd put so much effort in getting up and down the wing that he was dead on his feet. Tom Grivosti came on to play left-sided centre-back, meaning I had to move Barry Maguire across to the right-side, and shift Wallace Duffy out to right-back. Maybe the substitution cost us, maybe it didn't. The back-four who finished the game are all more than competent at this level and Motherwell were always going to throw everything at us as they chased an equaliser. As a manager, you know, some substitutions will work out and some won't.

BairnsNews: Another game where the opposition had more possession than you. Does that worry you?

Stuniverse: No, not really. We have a style of play that suits us and it's not about how much possession you have, but more what you do with the possession you do have? I thought we were too passive in the first-half and Motherwell edged it. Robert Sanchez was busy in our goal and, on the only occasion he was beaten first-half, Jordan Marshall was in the right place, at the right time, to clear off our line. After the break, we were more on the front foot and I thought we looked much better and caused Motherwell a lot of problems.

SP17_Motherwell_lgTab.thumb.png.9f16d3a1ad3d4fe8e20c9f0256befa03.png

BairnsNews: Effectively half way to the split, Celtic and Rangers are running away with things at the top, as expected, but you're above everybody else in third place. How do you sum up the season so far?

Stuniverse: We're delighted to be third, and I think we deserve to be there for all the hard work the players have put in, but we're also aware we've drawn too many games and feel we should have more points than we do. There's 16 games to go until the split, so we're not getting carried away with ourselves, plus another five games after the split. We've put ourselves in a great position but there's still a lot of football to be played yet this season.

Pre-match v Hamilton Academical (H) - Ladbrokes Premiership (18)

Match Preview

SP18_Hamilton_preview.thumb.png.2ae455147a521748583bdef9de831150.png

BairnsNews: Hamilton are bottom of the league, without a manager, and without a win in the last ten matches. You're third and are strong favourites for this one, surely a home win is the only outcome?

Stuniverse: We beat Hamilton earlier in the season and we're determined to get a win in front of Ye Bairns fans. We have to guard against complacency and, to be fair to Hamilton, they're a better team than five points from 17 games suggests. But, yes, we expect to win, but we also know we have to work hard to earn it.

Team Selection

Unavailable:
Steven Boyd (broken foot)
Cammy Bell (abdominal)

Doubtful:
Josh Mullin (dislocated shoulder-45)
Michael Doyle (hernia-45)

SP18_Hamilton_selection.thumb.png.e1ed1d92f80c05a14c6aa6322526d4a0.png

BairnsNews: Two changes today.

Stuniverse: Yes. Alan Forrest (knee) and Ethan Hamilton (various niggles) for Louis Longridge and Jason Holt. Alan and Ethan have both been out of the team for a while due to injury, mainly, so this is a good opportunity to try and get 90 minutes Premiership football into their legs.

Post-match: Falkirk (2) 7-1 (1) Hamilton Academical

SP18_Hamilton_reort.thumb.png.94dc9b9f63ad3308d482bfd157dcb8e9.png

BairnsNews: A sensational victory but were you worried when Hamilton took an early lead?

Stuniverse: No [laughs]. Like you say, it was very early and I had the utmost confidence in my players. That said, Michael Folivi always seems to cause us problems, and he did again, giving them the lead. Adam Idah equalised for us with a tap-in after Alan Forrest had hit the post. Alan Forrest then made it 2-1, getting on the end of Jordan Marshall's cross at the far post. Jahmal Hector-Ingram made it 3-1 after the break following a pinball type scramble in Hamilton's penalty area. Chris Kane got on the end of a great Anthony McDonald cross to head home our fourth. Georgie Kelly made it five at the second attempt after their goalkeeper parried his first effort. Chris Kane headed us into a 6-1 lead, getting on the end of a superb Jordan Marshall cross. Georgie Kelly headed in a Michael Tidser corner for 7-1. We could have had more, we were outstanding tonight.

SP18_Hamilton_lgTab.thumb.png.b5227b88db5b90d0bda20e30630f2b60.png

BairnsNews: With a mere five points from 18 matches, Hamilton look doomed to relegation, don't they?

Stuniverse: Clearly it's going to need a miraculous turnaround in form for them to stay up. Hamilton started brightly against us tonight, and in Folivi they have a quality player, but once we went ahead their heads dropped. I think they need to appoint a new manager soon and go from there. Good luck to them.

Pre-match v Aberdeen (a) - Ladbrokes Premiership (19)

Match Preview

SP19_Aberdeen_preview.thumb.png.04867935ec4c45fc6fd9153d6edddcae.png

BairnsNews: Aberdeen are five points behind you with a game-in-hand. A loss at Pittodrie today will open the door for Aberdeen to overtake you.

Stuniverse: We drew 2-2 with Aberdeen at the Falkirk Stadium earlier in the season. That gives us confidence that we can compete with them and, I think, we're playing even better right now, benifitting from a more settled team and the freedom that comes from knowing we're unlikely to be involved in a relegation battle. Having said that, Aberdeen are a very good side indeed and they'll be much more difficult to play against in front of their own fans at Pittodrie Stadium.

Team Selection

Unavailable:
Cammy Bell (abdominal)
Steven Boyd (broken foot)

Doubtful:
Lewis Smith (calf-90)

SP19_Aberdeen_selection.thumb.png.13c79d5beb5a3fdc9621df9b4e6f4569.png

BairnsNews: Only one change today.

Stuniverse: Correct. The players were magnificent and, with one exception, they go again. Jahmal Ingram-Hector has been struggling of late, whilst Georgie Kelly and Chris Kane have both impressed and scored goals off the bench. Georgie gets the chance to impress from the off today, but it was a very tough decision and Chris is unfortunate not to have got the nod himself.

Post-match: Aberdeen (1) 2-3 (3) Falkirk

SP19_Aberdeen_report.thumb.png.495a5d40a2e5fba5f4dff23b126bbb0a.png

BairnsNews: Congratulations. A hard fought win in the end. In the first-half, it looked like you were brave and attacked Aberdeen from the off. Was that the plan?

Stuniverse: Sort of. For games like this, away at the bigger clubs, we've been changing the way we normally play. Today, we thought, you know what, let's not change the way we play for Aberdeen, let's go to Pittodrie Stadium, play our normal way, and see what happens. In the first-half, particularly, it worked an absolute treat.

Georgie Kelly headed home inside 20 minutes to give us the lead from a fine Adam Idah cross. Lewis Smith made it 2-0, a couple of minutes later, scoring from a tight angle after Alan Forrest's shot was palmed away by their goalkeeper. Then Aberdeen pulled one back with a header when we failed to defend a free-kick properly at the far post. Georgie Kelly restored our two-goal lead with another header, this time arriving late in the box to head in TJ Eyoma's cross.

After the break it was a different game, more what we expected from Aberdeen. They tightened up at the back, retained the ball better, and put us under a lot of pressure. We held out until late-on when they pulled it back to 3-2. That meant a nervy last five minutes or so plus added-on time. We went more cautious then, dropped Michael Tidser back and subbed Tom Grivosti on as a defensive midfielder, and we saw the game out for a massive victory for this club.

SP19_Aberdeen_lgTab.thumb.png.1fe42f7108425b577ad99b197b3bb9ac.png

BairnsNews: 19 matches in, Celtic and Rangers aside, your Falkirk team are looking the real deal as the best of the rest. Can you maintain this and qualify for Europe?

Stuniverse: The players have been amazing this season. The've worked incredibly hard in training, they've taken responsibility for the challenge, and now they're showing that we have a lot of quality, not just in our starting-11, but in our entire squad, and that extends beyond the matchday-18. I'm fortunate to get to work with this squad every day, they're not just amazing players, they're amazing people too. I'm so proud of them, each and every one of them.

But we're a week away from Christmas. There's a lot of football still to be played. We want to keep doing our best and finish on as many points as we can get.

Match Preview

SP20_Rangers_preview.thumb.png.15a386993d7c8a183a2a537c6548d7dc.png

BairnsNews: You're last match before Christmas. Home to Rangers. Could you have had a tougher fixture?

Stuniverse: Celtic.

BairnsNews: Yeah. OK, I'll give you that. What are your thoughts ahead of facing Rangers?

Stuniverse: Like you say, it's a very tough game for us. We held out for a 0-0 draw at Ibrox Stadium earlier in the season and we'll be working hard to try and give Ye Bairns fans an early Christmas present. We worked so hard for two seasons to get back-to-back promotions because we want to be playing in Premiership games like this one.

Team Selection

SP20_Rangers_selection.thumb.png.3ceba94ac5fef24cfbcf3127d5f8261c.png

BairnsNews: You've had some illness problems this week.

Stuniverse: Yes, it's that time of year. Both Lewis Smith and Ethan Hamilton are under house-quarantine at the moment. Jason Holt and Aidan Connolly come in for them.

Post-match: Falkirk (0) 1-4 (3) Rangers

SP20_Rangers_report.thumb.png.c79ebbf7ad42b63797a88200a42ac9ec.png

BairnsNews: Would it be fair to say you lost that match before it even got started?

Stuniverse: Yes. Sadly, it would. We were 2-0 down inside a quarter of an hour and three-down before we'd even played 20 minutes. You can't give Rangers, or any Premiership side, that sort of start and expect to get anything out of the game.

BairnsNews: What can you learn from a match like that?

Stuniverse: We have to do better. We were still asleep for the first 20 minutes and I can't explain that, it was most unlike us. Sure, Ciaran Dickson showed what a top class player he is, but we have to do better.

After going 3-0 down we settled down a bit, and were much improved after the break. We worked their goalkeeper more. Adam Idah and Jahmal Hector-Igram both had goals chalked off for offside, before Adam gave us a late lifeline with a neat finish. Only we then switched off and a routine long ball over the top, which we should have dealt with, allowed them to make it 4-1.

SP20_Rangers_lgTab.thumb.png.d205f158dd235d133fdaa3da642fde7d.png

BairnsNews: For what it's worth after a performance like that, Merry Christmas.

Stuniverse: Thank you. You, too. And a Merry Christmas to all Ye Barns fans out there. We're sorry we didn't give them an early Christmas present today but, hopefully, Ye Bairns fans will have enjoyed watching us for the majority of this season. See you all again on Boxing Day.

Match Preview

SP21_Kilmarnock_preview.thumb.png.5993463f46bd5cce4f27e1cf6509cbd3.png

BairnsNews: A home game on Boxig Day and a chance to return to winning ways against Kilmarnock?

Stuniverse: Yes. Indeed. I love the Boxing Day fixtures, particularly when playing at home. Ye Bairns fans will be in good cheer after Christmas Day and I'm looking forward to savouring the atmosphere. We won 1-0 at Rugby Park earlier in the season ad we'd love nothing more than to repay Ye Bairns fans after the Rangers defeat, with a home win today.

BairnsNews: You've reversed your changes from the Rangers game.

Stuniverse: Yes. Ethan Hamilton and Lewis Smith are both feeling a lot better and they replace Jason Holt and Aidan Connolly.

Post-match: Falkirk (0) 0-0 (0) Kilmarnock

SP21_Kilmarnock_report.thumb.png.85c2a6499e2a2e2492b778e4b4db872e.png

BairnsNews: How do you sum that one up?

Stuniverse: Disappointing. I'm disappointed we couldn't find a goal. To be fair to Kilmarnock, they defended well, deep and in numbers, and it's up to us to break them down. We couldn't do that. We had a few chances, the best falling to Chris Kane late on, when their goalkeeper made a great save, but we couldn't find a way to score.

SP21_Kilmarnock_injury.thumb.png.882e2c9e50cb996917d8fc82d1beb580.png

BairnsNews: Idah went off injured. How's he looking?

Stuniverse: Not good. Adam's twisted his ankle, there may be some ligament damage but we'll know more after a scan next week. It could be late February, or even March, before we see him playing for the Bairns again.

I'm not making excuses, but losing not only our top goal scorer, but the Premiership's top scorer, was a big blow.

BairnsNews: You're at home to League One Raith Rovers but only two changes for the Scottish Cup-tie.

Stuniverse: Yes. It's been 20 days since our last game so the players are raring to go. Oli Shaw starts up front instead of Adam Idah, who's out with an ankle injury, and Josh Dacres-Cogley comes in for TJ Eyoma at right-back.

Post-match: Falkirk (0) 4-2 (1) Raith Rovers

BC_4R_Raith_report.thumb.png.c286e35998fd147f7d920bea8fa3e3da.png

BairnsNews: That was some turnaround after the break.

Stuniverse: Yes, it was. Raith were a credit to themselves and League One; they pushed us all the way. We were getting ready for our half-time talk, because the players needed to know how disappointed we were, when Barry Maguire conceded a penalty and instead of going in at the break 0-0 we were one down. Jari Litmanen [Assisant Manager] and I tend to play good-cop bad-cop, I'll leave it to you to decide who is who, but Jari really laid into them at half-time.

We were much improved after the break. Alan Forrest equalised with a brilliant individual goal. Michael Tidser put us in front with a sensational free-kick from 30-odd yards. Chris Kane came on as a late sub and made it 3-1 after good work by Alan Forrest. Moments later, Chris picked up a clearance and ran from just inside their half, beating a defender, and slotting the ball past their goalkeeper. We conceded another goal at the death but we're through to the next round.

Pre-match v Heart of Midlothian (a) - Ladbrokes Premiership (22)

Match Preview

SP22_Hearts_preview.thumb.png.dab747b5acbc68596672d88e66a4bcb8.png

BairnsNews: Hearts are one point behind you in 4th with a game-in-hand. You need to win at Tynecastle Park to make sure Hearts can't go above you when they play their game-in-hand.

Stuniverse: It was a 2-2 draw when we played at Falkirk Stadium earlier in the season. This will be a very difficult game for us but we're determined to get something out of it.

Team Selection

Unavailable:
Adam Idah (ankle)
Charlie Telfer (food poisoning)

Doubtful:
Steven Boyd (broken foot-45)
Cammy Bell (abdominal-90)

SP22_Hearts_selection.thumb.png.87e5e37c2702cf619a03e4503de8246e.png

BairnsNews: Just the one change today.

Stuniverse: Yes. Chris Kane starts ahead of Oli Shaw today. After Chris's very impressive brief cameo against Raith, when he scored a brace and was a whisker away from a hat-trick, I thought he's more than earned a start.

Post-match: Heart of Midlothian (3) 4-2 (1) Falkirk

SP22_Hearts_report.thumb.png.b4e654a0c889963ef274917259d4e9a9.png

BairnsNews: A bad day at the office.

Stuniverse: Yes. I thought we had some good spells, and some bad spells, but Hearts deserved the win today. There wasn't too much in it, but they were more clinical than us in front of goal, and in Marco Moscati they had a player who scored two worldies in the same game.

We got off to a slow start and were 2-0 down after around half-an-hour. Georgie Kelly got us back into the game when his glancing header, from Josh Dacres-Cogley's cross, made it 2-1. But Jordan Marshall then conceded a penalty and it was 3-1 before the break. In the second-half, Michael Tidser gave us hope again with another of his trademark free-kicks, but Hearts got a fourth and that was that.

SP22_Hearts_lgTab.thumb.png.d4968958e97779faa0b47ac180072f06.png

BairnsNews: Hearts have gone above you with the win?

Stuniverse: Sometimes you have to put your hands together, give credit where credits due, and applaud the opposition. Hearts handled the game better than us today and deserved to win.

Stuniverse: I've recently signed a new deal here and am under contract to Falkirk.

Match Preview

SP23_Celtic_preview.thumb.png.20d731de285352725d5104e3f384004f.png

BairnsNews: Celtic have surprisingly lost three times recently, all 1-0 against Rangers, Hibernian and, most surprisingly of all, Ross County. Is this a good time to host Celtic?

Stuniverse: We're not in great form ourselves, to be honest, but yes, you wouldn't normally expect Celtic to be losing three games in quick succession. Being realistic though, they're still the best team in Celtic, but maybe if they underestimate us, as Mr. Lennon has accused the rest of the Premiership of doing, maybe we do have a chance. Mr. Lennon doesn't appear to like me very much so it would be particularly satisfying to get a positive result against Celtic today.

SP23_Celtic_selection.thumb.png.b5640416ed81c86c7b1a516f9820d813.png

BairnsNews: Only one change after the Hearts defeat?

Stuniverse: Overall, I didn't think we did too bad at Tynecasle Park so I'm not going to rush into changes just for the sake of it. I've made a change at left-back though with Calum Macdonald coming in for Jordan Marshall.

Post-match: Falkirk (0) 0-4 (0) Celtic

SP23_Celtic_report.thumb.png.17f77dadf4fb24523d2b692fbde10f96.png

BairnsNews: Ouch. How do you sum that one up?

Stuniverse: We were well beaten. It's as simple as that. We have a lot of work to do if we want to be competing at the top end of the Premiership. I don't like Neil Lennon but, I have to admit, he has a quality team at his disposal and Artem Besedin was simply on another level today.

Celtic were the better team from first whistle to last. We started with an Attacking style, but we just couldn't get a foothold in the game, so midway through the first-half we changed to a more Balanced style and we finally started to create a chance or two. We were fortunate to go in level at half-time. After the break, Celtic stepped up a gear and after they broke the deadlock we couldn't live with them.

SP23_Celtic_lgTab.thumb.png.7eddcc99bd0495ae8567e5b05f385982.png

BairnsNews: You've dropped another place to 5th. In the second round of fixtures you haven't done as well as the first round, and are on an inconsistent run of form at the moment. What do you put that down to?

Stuniverse: I think there's an element of our novelty factor having worn off and the other teams are more aware of how we play. We're missing the Premiership's top goalscorer with Adam Idah being out with an ankle injury. It's not just his goals we're missing, but his all-round play. I think we're also missing Efe Ambrose's calmness at the back, if I'm honest, but Efe isn't here any more and our young defenders need to step up.

BairnsNews: With that in mind, are you looking to do any transfer business during the window?

Stuniverse: We'd like to, and we are trying, but it's not easy, and we don't have the budgets that the Premiership teams we're competing with this season do.

Match Preview

BairnsNews: Ross County are 10th, nine points above the relegation playoff spot. At home, does this offer a great opportunity for you to get back to winning ways.

Stuniverse: On paper, yes. But, having not won in the Premiership for four games now, our next win can't come soon enough. Hopefully today is the day.

Team Selection

BairnsNews: Three changes today.

Stuniverse: Yes. Time to mix it up a bit after the Celtic defeat. Tom Grivosti, Charlie Telfer and Oli Shaw in for Barry Maguire, Ethan Hamilton and Georgie Kelly.

Post-match: Falkirk (0) 2-0 (0) Ross County

SP24_RossCo_report.thumb.png.d572936e26ff8e55548de15ca1dc3dd6.png

BairnsNews: Idah made a real difference when he came on and showed what you've been missing?

Stuniverse: Yes, he did. I thought before he came on, we were in control of the game, but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal. Adam Idah came on after about an hour and made a significant impact as you'd expect from the Premiership's top goal scorer. Within a few minutes of coming on as sub, Adam got on the end of Calum Macdonald's cross to head us in front. Late-on, Chris Kane headed home Michael Tidser's free-kick to ease our nerves.

BairnsNews: Hearts beat Rangers 2-0 last night. A win today would see you go above Hearts on goal difference. Can you do it?

Stuniverse: That's what we're determined to do but we'll need to work hard and perform to our best if we're going to achieve that.

Adam Idah (ankle-75)

SP25_Livingston_report.thumb.png.167982bb8f02a47de81c78b40283e275.png

BairnsNews: A good away win.

Stuniverse: Yes. There was't much between the teams, although I thought we edged it as we were more ruthless in front of goal. Oli Shaw gave us the lead after good work by Lewis Smith down the left. Oli then got his second when he was put through by Charlie Telfer. Anthony McDonald made it 3-0 with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Livingston pulled one back with a long-range shot just before half-time.

Pre-match v Hibernian (a) - Ladbrokes Premiership (26)

Match Preview

SP26_Hibs_preview.thumb.png.4bc9bd1813ab28e8ffd1bbd94d289fc9.png

BairnsNews: You visit Easter Road with Hibs six points behind you with a game in hand.

Stuniverse: Yes. If we can get a positive result it will significantly aid our chances of finishing above Hibs by the split. We drew 2-2 at Easter Road earlier in the season, but lost 2-1 at Falkirk Stadium, so we know it won't be easy. It would be nice to get one over them though after losing at home.

Team Selection

Doubtful:
Adam Idah (ankle-75)

SP26_Hibs_selection.thumb.png.dccf56a2cbe3308fbc3ae0f9e2ed24bf.png

BairnsNews: You're almost back to full-strength.

Stuniverse: Yes. Our medical team have been able to put their feet up [laughs]. Adam Idah (ankle) isn't quite ready for a full 90 minutes. Everybody else is fully fit.

BairnsNews: Just the one change.

Stuniverse: Yes, Oli Shaw is ineligible today against his parent club. Georgie Kelly comes in.

Post-match: Hibernian (1) 2-2 (1) Falkirk

SP26_Hibs_report.thumb.png.d152677cf9c0964936cbadaea49cf3e3.png

BairnsNews: Amazingly a 2-2 draw again.

Stuniverse: Yes, and overall I think that was a fair result. We wanted to start on the front foot (Attacking) but Hibs penned us back and we couldn't get anything going. Mind you, five minutes in and Calum Macdonald didn't help us by conceding an unnecessary penalty. We went Balanced after quarter-of-an-hour and we did get a foothold in the game. Georgie Kelly headed us level on 40 minutes from a Michael Tidser cross.

Hibs had a man sent-off for two yellows early in the second-half. We went Attacking but it took us a while to adjust and Hibs took it in their stride as they went 2-1 up shortly after. To be fair, you wouldn't have known we had a man advantage because we struggled to retain possession and take advantage. But, credit to my players, they didn't give up and kept going, showing a lot of character. We went Very Attacking towards the end. It didn't look like it was going to happen for us, and then, 90 + four minutes, and we get a penalty. Craig Sibbald calmly converted for 2-2.

SP26_Hibs_lgTab.thumb.png.92f1d00c7e96b55c6340406845922daf.png

BairnsNews: What are your thoughts on the latest takeover talks collapsing?

Stuniverse: I don't know too much about the details but, ever since I've been here, Lex Miller has been telling me he wants to sell the club and he's had a long list of prospective investors and consortiums interested in buying us. At least eight or nine I'd imagine. It's difficult to believe all of them weren't serious or didn't have enough money. Quite frankly, I hardly see the owner to speak to these days and it's hard to plan for our future success when all the owner says he wants to do is sell the club.

BairnsNews: The Quarter-Final draw has already been made and you'll play Celtic if you can defeat Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Can you get the job done to renew your rivalry with Neil Lennon?

SC_5R_Kilmarnock_draw.thumb.png.cc53c361989d70b033b9360f3029fe5a.png

Stuniverse: Look, I think all this talk about me and the Celtic manager is being blown out of all proportion. It should be about the players, not the managers. We're not even thinking about the next round though because this round, away to Kilmarnock, is difficult enough.

Team Selection

BairnsNews: One change.

Stuniverse: Jordan Marshall comes in at left-back for Calum Macdonald.

Post-match: Kilmarnock (0) 1-2 (1) Falkirk

BairnsNews: What a game that was and what a sensational winning goal.

Stuniverse: Yes, I agree. Late-on, Kilmarnock have a corner, Adam Idah wins the ball in our penalty area, dribbles the ball all the way into their penalty area, before coolly giving their goalkeeper the eyes and slotting the ball past him at his near post. Adam is a fantastic player and he showed all the great attributes he has in running the length of pitch right at the death to score an unbelievable winning goal.

Talk about karma, after they'd kicked Anthony McDonald out of the game in the very first minute, I thought it served them right when their goalkeeper, Jak Alnwick, tried to make a quick clearance out-of-his-hands after 13 minutes and the ball hit Georgie Kelly's back and went in.

Overall, I thought we thoroughly deserved to win the game and not just because of what they did to Anthony. Yes, they equalised after the break, but I thought we were the better team throughout, created the better chances, and deserved the victory.

SC_5R_Kilmarnock_inj.thumb.png.cf43c815fba2a02ba11ddda202bbd124.png

BairnsNews: You sound bitter about the McDonald injury, would that be fair?

Stuniverse: Look, I don't believe in coincidences on a football pitch. Before the match, Stevie Crawford [Kilmarnock manager] singles Anthony McDonald out as our danger-man and then, in the very first minute, McDonald is crunched by an over-the-top challenge that leaves my player with damaged ankle ligaments. Co-incidence? I don't think so.

Pre-match v St Johnstone (H) - Ladbrokes Premiership (27)

Match Preview

SP27_StJohnstone_preview.thumb.png.d6d3719dbca4771abb3fb5e9b0388992.png

BairnsNews: St Johnstone are 11th, have taken just one point from their last five matches, and lost 3-1 to rock-bottom Hamilton last time out. This must be a home banker for you, surely?

Stuniverse: As I've said before in similar situations, on paper yes, but football isn't played on paper. That said, we're confident playing in front of another sold-out Falkirk Satdium, with Ye Bairns fans cheering us on. St Johnstone will be scrapping for every point they can get now but, if we can match their commitment and work-rate, I'm confident we can win the game.

Team Selection

Unavailable:
Louis Longridge (hip)
Anthony McDonald (ankle)
Craig Sibbald (toe)
TJ Eyoma (ankle)

Doubtful:
Lewis Smith (knee-90)

SP27_StJohnstone_selection.thumb.png.e4d8f2388a26742ae027ec5b3fe8101d.png

BairnsNews: Three changes tonight.

Stuniverse: Yes. Unfortunately, we picked up a couple of injuries during the week. Josh Dacres-Cogley replaces TJ Eyoma (ankle) at right-back. Alan Forrest comes in for Anthony McDonald (ankle) on the right-wing. Adam Idah is fully fit after his ankle problem and starts up front instead of Chris Kane.

Post-match: Falkirk (1) 2-0 (0) St Johnstone

SP27_StJohnstone_report.thumb.png.85f156f79f3bc3f2648bd061c91a396d.png

BairnsNews: A solid, if hard fought, win.

Stuniverse: Yes. I'd agree with that. St Johnstone set out to make life difficult for us, deep with two blocks of four, and they defended very well. We had a bit of good fortune when Charlie Telfer gave us the lead with a shot that squirmed its way under Zander Clark's body after Georgie Kelly's header, from Josh Dacres-Cogley's cross, had been blocked. We thought we'd doubled our lead on the hour but Adam Idah's strike was ruled out for offside. On 75 minutes, Adam did double our lead after great work by Georgie Kelly. Defensively we did our jobs and creatively we were able to break down a very resolute defence.

SP27_StJohnstone_lgTab.thumb.png.3c88768481cc29a45bfaf50a1a0e8d47.png

BairnsNews: With six matches to go before the split, your Falkirk side look set to surprise many people by finishing in the top-half of the Premiership and being in the hunt for European Qualification.

Stuniverse: Six games is 18 points. That's a lot of points. We won't be getting ahead of ourselves.

Pre-match v Hamilton Academical (a) - Ladbrokes Premiership (28)

Match Preview

SP28_Hamilton_preview.thumb.png.4f0047e5fd3b0f14a9e67ef610741e8c.png

BairnsNews: You visit the Fountain of Youth Stadium with Hamilton having won back-to-back Premiership matches to lift them off the foot of the league table. Does that make your task even harder today?

Stuniverse: Yes, of course it does. Alex Neil [Manager] has really turned things around since he took over and Hamilton are on their best run of form this season. Momentum is with them and they'll believe they can avoid automatic relegation. We need to be on our game, without a doubt, and if we are, I'm confident we'll have enough about us to win the game.

Team Selection

Unavailable:
Louis Longridge (hip)
Anthony McDonald (ankle)
Craig Sibbald (toe)
TJ Eyoma (ankle)

SP28_Hamilton_selection.thumb.png.e27c1004f6a66ba5ed6c1faf09d1f9ef.png

BairnsNews: No changes.

Stuniverse: That's right. None at all. The players did well against St Johnstone and they go again.

Post-match: Hamilton Academical (1) 2-1 (0) Falkirk

SP28_Hamilton_report.thumb.png.df0f144da6dce38eaf0f44c4b234b439.png

BairnsNews: What happened?

Stuniverse: Hamilton wanted it more than us, plain and simple. They were stronger in the tackle, first to the second balls, and they threw themselves in front of everything. I'll be honest, Hamilton ran rings round us in the first-half and, although their first goal came very late in the half, they deserved to be ahead at the break. I thought we improved in the second-half, but not by much. That man Michael Folivi scored another wonder goal against us to double their lead. We huffed and puffed, and Alan Forrest pulled one back with an athletic scissor-kick after a great cross from Chris Kane but, in truth, it was too little too late. There's a lot of hard work to be done in training that's for sure.

SP28_Hamilton_lgTab.thumb.png.6991975eeda1a83c8ca18cbd0d5331a6.png

BairnsNews: You're still on course for the top-half split though.

Stuniverse: If we carry on playing like we did today we'll find ourselves in the bottom-half split. Today wasn't good enough, not by a long way.

LENNON REMEMBERS CRITICISM FROM STUNIVERSE

BairnsNews: Celtic manager Neil Lennon shows no intention of letting-up in the war-of-words with Falkirk manager Stuniverse.

Lennon is the odds-on favourite with the bookies to take the vacant Leicester City manager's job.

Pre-match v Celtic (a) - Scottish Cup Quarter-Final

Match Preview

SC_QF_Celtic_preview.thumb.png.7c14154c6a73718caa844e41a980942d.png

BairnsNews: Will you be shaking Lennon's hand before and after your Scottish Cup Quarter-Final at Celtic Park?

Stuniverse: Of course. I'm not petty like some people.

Team Selection

Unavailable:
Louis Longridge (hip)
Scott McMann (thigh)

Doubtful:
Anthony McDonald (ankle-75)
Jahmal Hector-Ingram (head-90)
Craig Sibbald (toe-90)

SC_QF_Celtic_selection.thumb.png.dd0c12e808cf7b1e9cf137999d5f9664.png

BairnsNews: Six changes. Is that because of the disappointing defeat to Hamilton?

Stuniverse: We didn't play anywhere near our best at Hamilton. None of them could complain about being dropped after that showing. Only six changes though. TJ Eyoma (ankle) returns at right-back for Josh Dacres-Cogley. Josh Mullin (dislocated shoulder) is on the right-wing instead of Alan Forrest. Barry Maguire comes in at centre-back for Tom Grivosti and Calum Macdonald replaces Jordan Marshall at left-back. Ethan Hamilton in central midfield for Charlie Telfer. Oli Shaw plays up front instead of Georgie Kelly.

Post-match: Celtic (2) 4-1 (0) Falkirk

SC_QF_Celtic_report.thumb.png.025f990c6167e508403b48f13c4bacf3.png

BairnsNews: How do you assess that one?

Stuniverse: Look. We were well beaten but I'm not going to stand here and criticise my players. They have given me everything this season, they've worked incredibly hard and have surprised and confounded all the pundits who predicted we'd get relegated this season. The team, all 14 of them who got on the pitch, worked their socks off and tried their best. Celtic are on a completely different planet when it comes to budgets and wages and we saw just how big the gap is in terms of quality on the pitch today with the way Celtic passed the ball around and scored four outstanding goals. Alan Forrest did score one for us, an 83rd minute penalty, but it was always going to be a consolation goal.
