Disappearing Cursor - eGPU issues

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the correct place, but the cursor disappears when moving it, makes controlling the game a bit of a nightmare.

It only occurs when running the game connected to an eGPU, Razer Core X using a Vega 64. eGPU also runs in overdrive when FM is not the selected window.

Am running on 2018 MacBook Pro, running macOS Catalina (10.15)

FM2019 always ran fine.

Nope, never.

It works fine when not connected to the eGPU, just running off the laptop, but when connected to the eGPU the cursor disappears when moving it.

The GPU also running excessively also didn't occur in FM19. The GPU usage is at 100% when FM20 is not the active window.

Been playing more today and the match engine FPS is also only around 15-25 when connected to the eGPU. FM19 hit a solid 60 all the time.

Let me know if there's any system info you need.

I've exported the file. Is there a secure way to transfer it over?

The file has serial numbers etc for my computer on. I'd rather not upload that on here.

Perfect,

I've just uploaded the file it's called:

DanOD-MacBook Pro-eGPU Issues

Let me know if there's any other system/game info you need.

Is there any update on this issue? Or when a fix is likely coming?

It's incredibly frustrating to play the game with the cursor going invisible every time I move the mouse.

It's difficult to know as we don't have the same internal setup as you, but we are looking at getting a similar system.

I've been doing a bit of investigating, and it seems like it's a resolution related issue.

I use a 4K monitor, but as MacOS since doesn't have actual UI scaling I have the resolution at 3008x1692. This is one of the MacOS presets and is the perfect UI size for how far away I sit from the scene, with text being easy to read and having enough real estate on the screen. If I set the resolution to a standard setting such as 2560x1440 or 3840x2160 I don't get any issues with the cursor.

Even if FM is running in windowed mode with MacOS at 3008x1692 or 3360x1890 I get the issue. FM20 is the only thing this happens with, all other games or apps run perfectly.

I haven't yet tried connecting the monitor directly into the MacBook without the eGPU. With my set up it's a bit of a hassle, but I'll try to get time over the weekend to try and update.

Ideally I'd  love to see actual MacOS full screen support reintroduced in FM like it was a 3/4 years ago so I can set the resolution to anything rather than having it rely on it cooperating with the system resolution, but I'm guessing there's a reason it was dropped for what we have now.

I have the same issue with MacOS Catalina and eGPU setup. I also have a 4k monitor and get the flashing cursor. I can manage with it but the game tends to lock my entire computer when using the eGPU. It could be Catalina-related as Catalina brought on a much slower experience in FM19. I have 2019 MacBook Pro so it isn't hardware related. I will try to run the eGPU tonight and will record/upload if it crashes again. Thanks for your work!

Encountered another crash on Catalina and did some research. To anyone running an eGPU and MacOS Catalina, there are several articles mentioning crashes with RX570 and 580 cards. I have a 580 and use it to run FM from time to time through my monitor, but every time I have recently, it completely crashes my computer. Seems to NOT be an SI issue but rather a Catalina issue:
