I might actually be a creep, but for some reason I have always thought of this song as "Special", (both in name and nature). In any case, I would like to dedicate my Beta save to someone who, at this very early stage, is at least hinting, that he just possibly, might be...... a little bit special.

I've never managed in Austria, and if my FM19 soujourn in France, Brazil and most Nordic Nations tells me anything, it suggest that trying new things can be fun. This bloke has really caught my eye this season in real life and I thought that watching him fill his boots, (he will even be taking free-kicks and pens away from GK's), could be fun while I see what's what in the Beta. The updates are going to be player-based rather than team-based, but to be honest I am making this up as I go so who knows what's going to happen. The only thing I know for absolute certainty, is that his Dad hates Roy Keane and the feeling is mutual.

Good stuff Jim. Will follow as always. My save idea for FM2020 was also to be RB Salzburg, but more with the intention of building the RB group with Leipzig and RB Brasil to build Europe/World domination (as much as the RB group are hated)!

Its a save idea I have considered, but this will be VERY short term and really just designed to get me used to the new aspects of FM20 and to allow SI time ti make the game more stable so that I might start my proper save.

I don't have much time for your choice of club for obvious corporate reasons, but it's good to see saves in oft-ignored leagues.

Best of luck. Quality tune, too.

Completely agree. I much prefer to manage the under-dog, but this is far more about Håland than Salzburg

If someone buys him, I might just move with him.

Sep 2020

Premier Division. We keep winning in the league and have still only conceded the 12 goal.

Champions Cup. We've been a little unlucky with the draw. In a group containing both Real and Chelsea, I will just be delighted to finish 3rd.

Austrian Cup. Håland was injured and we weren't good enough to overcome rivals Rapid Vienna without him.

It's interesting to see more of a focus on a particular player :)

Yeah. That was my thinking too. I'm not positive, (I'm at work), but I think he has a min fee release clause of £19.75M.

On Day 1 of the save I tried to extend his contract, but no matter what I offered him he always wanted a release clause. I will check later and update.

If he gets bought by someone, then I think I will either end the save there or.... maybe add myself as Manager of the buying club. Either way, the focus in this save will remain the player.

Haland turned into a beast in my last save on FM19. He was the Star Striker at Man U (boo!). He was belting in 20+ goals a season in Premier League under AI Management.

That' about €23m I think, which would make him their joint-second highest sale ever. Not bad for a teenager, tbh.

Oct 2019.

Premier Division. Now that LASK have already beaten us, I can stop thinking about an unbeaten league season and just concentrate on making sure I win it, while at the same time, resting players for the Champions Cup games.

Champions Cup. That's more like it. I was hoping we would nick a draw away to Atlanta and then beat them at home, (because 3rd place could rely on that), but although we couldn;t manage that, we did somehow manage a 1-0 win at home to Real.

I've just checked and there isn't actually a minimum fee release clause at the moment, but where he was at least willing to negotiate at the start of the season, he isn't now.

Youth Intake. Nov 2019.

47fd3e8d86bdfc913b56ec35abefecf3.png

I've obviously been waiting for this, but I'm surprised that there is nothing clickable. Oh hang on. There is the Development Centre in the bottom right hand corner.

1ea8a5a977f42fa9cc74c10b861747be.png

Ok. So it seems that the important word I ignored was the word Preview. This isn't actually the Youth Intake. it's just a preview. Does that mean it's coming tomorrow though? The picture above is talking about a 2020 Youth Candidate Preview.

c64f8e6abc8b99ef2b3f8a66688cd1d2.png

Oh I see. So the intake actually happens in March and this is just telling us what to expect. I suppose the idea is that we will know what are the areas of strength/weakness and if need be go out and buy youngsters to fill any gaps.

It wasn't what I was expecting and I'm not really sure what to think about it at the moment. Right now it just feels a bit..... gimmicky. It doesn't actually do anything. It's just a cosmetic message. Don't want to be too harsh to early though.

[Edit]

I suppose now is the time to look at the Academy properly for the very 1st time.

We've got players who are 23 years of age mentioned in the Development Centre. I know they are still developing but that seems quite old for me.

Nov 2019.

He hasn't scored in his last 3 games. He needs to pull his finger out if he is going to win anything.

Premier Division. I rested everyone in the Champions Cup against Chelsea, with the idea being that we were going to lose to Chelsea anyway but that we would come back and stuff Mattersburg. It didn't work out like that as we only lost narrowly to Chelsea and then failed to win at Mattersburg.

Champions Cup. We took the lead against Chelsea with a completely rotated squad. It still astonishes me how often that works. My plan is still to rely on beating Atlanta to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa Cup.

I'm pretty sure this is wrong. Dec 2019.

I know tax law is notoriously boring, but it's pretty easy that what it has changed from is identical to what it has changed to. #Boring

He might well be a little jaded, but basically he's gonna have to suck it up and get on with it.

Premier Division. We're winning and keeping clean-sheets, but Håland hasn't been great at all.

Champions Cup. It was a gamble hoping to sneak 3rd ahead of Atlanta, but it worked and we will be playing Knockout European football in the New Year.

Håland scored his 1st goal in 6 appearances and that sort of form is pretty far from special.

There players are away now for the mid-season break and we don't have a competitive match until 20th February.

Something a little different. Jan 2020

I've just had a bid in for a player, (not our boy), and I rejected it. 3 different clubs have come in offering a loan deal where they pay all his wages £26,000 per week and then £500,000 per month whether he plays or not. That's enormous!

2ef02a984ac3eca1fc417bc191eafc16.png

I thought the loan fee was going to be a £500,000 flat fee but I've checked and it's not.

That's a lot of money in Austria. Hell, that's a lot of money anywhere.
