Do you think that odd year FMs are better?

Recommended Posts

From your experience? I somehow feel that way. Not sure how far into the past we should go, but 07, 11, 13, 15 and 17 were all very, very good in my opinion. Contrary to this, I only found 08 and 12 enjoyable enough. 14 had arguably the best transfer system out of any recent ones, but that's it really.

Not as such. I think FM is a series that consistently improves year-on-year with few missteps. FM18 was a rare step back - and FM19 was two steps forward - to me.

Mind you, I do generally buy odd-year FMs and skip even-year FMs (FM16 being the only 'even' one I've bought this decade). I completely skipped FM12 and FM14 because I was still engrossed in save games on FM11 and FM13, and I didn't enjoy the FM18 demo much at all.

I haven't bought all the games but here is my play list off steam.

2010 played for 336 hours.

2011 played for 16 hours.

2012 played for 346 hours.

2013 played for 29 hours.

2016 played for 664 hours.

2019 played for 495 hours.

As you can see, most of my hours have been on the even numbered games.

I haven't noticed any pattern in quality in odd or even numbered FMs. They seem to be more or less the same, disregarding the particular versions match engine weaknesses and unfinished but still implemented new feature.

IMO until 2018 each version brought some major improvement, so it was worth buying. 2018 did not seem to me as such a huge step forward so I waited for 19.  And until SI does not announce something really interesting this year I think I will pass on this year also, everything is just a minor update for me yet. So to speak - I don't think that odd versions are better or worse, just the quality of improvements is not so big for me over the time.

My played FMs (from Steam)

FM 2009 - 324 hours
FM 2010 - 305 hours
FM 2011 - 719 hours
FM 2012 - 564 hours
FM 2013 - 733 hours
FM 2014 - 445 hours
FM 2015 - 528 hours
FM 2016 - 438 hours
FM 2017 - 931 hours
FM 2018 - 1,183 hours
FM 2019 - 1,352 hours

I don't know, it seems I played 11 and 13 more than 12 or 14, but from 17 and onwards I just play more and more... I've played FM for over 313 days, and that's only since 2009. I think I have just about every version from CM2 as well... I just found out I might be addicted... Shut up, you are addicted.

I don't know, man. Considering what a letdown FM19's match engine is...

I've played most FMs - stopped around FM19.

Always gone back to FM12.

So no - I don't - I think the even FMs are better.
