Pasning length and “Play out of defence”

I have a question... 

With a positiv mentality, using "shorter passes" and "Play out of defence", your defenders will seem to play the ball longer than if you dont use "Play out of defence" - according to the pass-length-bar.  
 

Without "Play out of defence": 

Shouldn't it be the other way around? 

Also using "Much shorter passes" increases non-defenders to play more direct, than using 'just' "Shorter passes"... 

With "Shorter passes" instead of "Much shorter passes": 

Can't figure out the logic in this...

Don't pay attention to this, I think it's just a UI bug. The key difference is that when the PoD is on and passing is set to shorter, defenders will not have any option other than short passing (PI). Whereas without the PoD, their passing can be set to either shorter or more direct.

It must be, otherwise really misleading. So you suggest that the passing-length is equal in the two bars, althought logically is seems shorter on last? 

Why is midfielders passing-lenght then “standard” using “Play out of defence”, and can be set to shorter...?

Passing is shorter in both cases, regardless of what is displayed in the bars.

I guess because midfielders are not defenders (in relation to the Play out of defence), so they are encouraged to play more expansively when they see fit, especially on a higher mentality such as the positive (or above). Unless you yourself decide to make it either shorter or more direct for a particular player (midfielder) using the related PI.
