[FM19] I know for sure that life is beautiful around the world

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey there! I’m new here after a long time of reading from the shadows and here I am with my favourite manager, former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante.

Quote

After John left the band in 2009, he had a really short football career, playing a couple of matches for a non-league side in LA and went back to music. Fast forward some years and he's bored at home, he hasn't played guitar in months and not even the weird acid house music he loved lately don't arouse him. John goes into his computer, opens Steam and look at his library. He sees the old FM10 he had bought just to see himself in there. He goes into forums and reads about something called "Hexagon Challenge" that some weird people do when bored

"Why Hexagon?" He thinks. "Six continents, win the continental club and nation trophies, win the World Cup" John reads and something clicks in his mind. "I can do that. I'm always making changes in my life, I succeeded at 17 with my favourite band in the world. I survived heroin. I toured for a decade making music I loved. I can as well be the world greatest manager, the one everyone loves in that old game BUT IN REAL LIFE".

So, yeah. I'm trying to have some fun with the game by adding a small twist to a well known challenge. I’m trying to do the Hexagon challenge but with teams/nations that had never won the CL/Continental cup. Also I need to win Club and Nation World Cups. Since this will take a lot of time, I’ll probably use a lot of Instant Result just for this save. Will definitely still see finals and important matches. Also, it took me a year and a half (In game) to decide to finally post here, so the first update will be a big one. I plan on doing monthly updates later on.

In order to do this task I’ve created a 20 years younger than real John Frusciante, loaded up some Oceania leagues and went on holiday until December.

Some jobs are available but the first ones to pick me up are AS MANU URA, playing in Tahitian Ligue 1 Vini.

Oh, and in case you're wondering why the points don't make sense.

The squad wasn't great and we didn't have much to do, since we were in a good position to avoid relegation and we had no chance of winning the league. We ended in the same position we started, which is decent, and now we have a lot of work to do if we want to be competitive. Also, at the end of this season I found out we were qualified for OFC Champions League. I don't know why, but I'm guessing something from the previous season. Going there not expecting much.

2019/2020

This is a yearly update and also catching on where I am right now on the save. At the beginning of the season I decided to revamp the whole squad. A lot of players left, and a lot came in. Keep in mind this is a semi professional league so most teams have all the Reserves and U-21 without contracts and players come and go easily.

1033420773_invierno(principios).thumb.jpg.65a8dfed76051d9bf7ce9816185a3db7.jpg

Then I released some players

liberados.thumb.jpg.d9e4e14731ec27fdc7e78e7cf1e38ecf.jpg

Also made some summer (southern hemisphere, baby) signings.

927495752_verano2020.thumb.jpg.8e7e4776189ecf2561c22a9a91e1ca80.jpg

Leaving me with this squad (Sorry, this is from the end of the season, don't have older screenshots)

1135006187_Squadfin20202.thumb.jpg.74bdae675cc4341a582ba1a92a352b22.jpg

We had a pretty strong team and we surprisingly stomped on the league. We were extremely lucky also on the OFC Champions League because we avoided the NZ teams.

And there I was, just a year after getting my first job as a manager in a small island somewhere in French Polinesia, one match away from glory and making history, and it was just the beginning. But then, reality strikes back

278543622_6-FinalChampions2019-2020.thumb.jpg.98bb58bc4d2dd304f2dc8989b5ee9e49.jpg

Lost on pens 4-3. (I CAN'T BELIEVE I GOT FM'D SOOOO HARD. I WAS 4-1 UP WITH 6 MINUTES LEFT)

We still had time for a good ending of the season, winning the local double, but I still have that bitterness from the OFC Champions League. We're a stronger side now and I might try winning the OFC CL in here because I got attached with the team and the board was very generous for next year (around 60k for transfers and same for wages, but hey! We earned that money). Still, if any NZ giant makes the call, I don't know what would happen.

2020/2021

I had the mission of improving my team in order to win the OFC, so I made some signings and sent away players that just weren't good enough.

 October 2020

Great month overall, scoring a lot and that'll help in league if AS Dragon keeps our pace.

End of season 2020-2021

So yesterday I hit the daily post limit and had a day off work, there's lots of new info (And oh, so many disappointments).

We had an awful season, getting kicked off the cup on our debut, I didn't care about the trophy, but it was an awful way to go.

1388256307_6AfueradeCopa.thumb.png.32710897c4548d6dd5368332d1db3c7c.png

We went on after the defeat and did really nice on the League until that awful february. Got knocked out in the last group stage match of OFC CL, we ended tied on points with Tafea, with better GD, but the tie-breaker is the direct result between teams, so we were out. Auckland City ended up winning the whole thing.

1185212140_5-Schedule20-21.thumb.jpg.33c69483e6fd85bdb8a66341823e6c71.jpg

After the bad streak on February we were second to AS Dragon, we had our chance to catch them after the win home 4-1 but we screwed up on the next match. Final matchday found us needing a win and them not winning. Of course, it didn't happen.

2083335108_7Findetemporada.thumb.png.9b85715954bb4e26a8722740f3a5c2c1.png

That's a wrap on a season that fell short for my expectations. At least we're qualified for the OFC CL and that will be my last attempt before jumping ship. I was planning on going away after this awful year but we had a rollercoaster on the last three days of the season.

1217686100_1-Plantakeover.thumb.png.c48635fe26b95a97907f3b3a3f381279.png

And just after that they offered to renegociate my contract, so I did, expecting some big money injection. Lucky me.

1885960489_2-Contrato.thumb.png.318cf7684d92f933a3aae33a7dd4c318.png

64441738_3-Takeover.thumb.png.e636ea45dc9f76abf22e56e6adc45c5c.png

Yeah, but the thing is:

866566461_4-Noinvestmentssad.thumb.png.ce60db30950abadc5e1d65f6c56239ab.png

No big money, nothing. Not that I needed it, but if I could get just one or two New Zealanders to come here, it'd help a lot. And I need money.

2021-2022

After last year failure, I'm convinced this will be our year. We made some signings and left some players go because their development just stalled. We have poor training and youth facilities and the board isn't willing to upgrade.

Fichajes.thumb.png.41fcedb856768792ba3729a85cc9b6ce.png

We don't have any chance but to win the league. And we should.

Odds.thumb.png.fd256912126f01dbd0f92d0772c8c8d1.png

After a busy and successful preseason, we had an almost perfect first month of league, it finds us on top one point clear of JS Arué, but this is just the beginning.

End of 2021

We got to the end of 2021 and things are looking great.

1812794915_resnov-dic.thumb.png.66b4518dbc9d7707bbaea2cacbd92ba5.png

Curious thing, on that 7-3 vs Olympic Mahina we had 2 REALLY quick goals.

676388994_gol2.thumb.png.cfe06e7f982517c4289cf716cbd6673a.png

November was a solid month, of course we got our first loss against the last of the table at that point. December was almost perfect and helps us end the year 9 points clear of Anué and Tefana, but with one game more than them.

111670129_tabladiciembre.thumb.png.9499dff2328c365676a3882441e36a3e.png

Just month and a half away from the only thing that matters here.

January - February

We had an amazing beginning of the year, with 10 wins in a row, but Team Wellngton reminded us that even competing in the OFC CL is nearly impossible when you face a NZ team.

1170453885_Screenshot2019-08-18at23_55_21.thumb.png.efb4a8f37c1e88e5f1b62a9c3c3d7e72.png

We're now 14 points clear on top of the league with 8 matches left. I don't think we're bottling this one.

Still we qualified for the QF and we will hopefully have a good bracket.

March - April

A couple of months and we went unbeaten.

Seems like we finally found our game and we got to win the league with 6 games left which allowed us to rotate for the OFC CL semi-finals. We faced Team Wellington, who had destroyed us 4-1 just two months before. We were able to not concede goals at home and went to NZ looking for the glory. A hat trick from Tehau made us go to the final where we'll face...

Hawke's Bay AGAIN. We meet two years later. We arrive there as Tahiti Champions and that should give us a confidence boost, but when I checked them up

They won the playoffs making them current champions of NZ league. It will be tough.

We went into the match and things seemed to be on our side this time.

1-0.thumb.png.3a628c14f8b47826845134fd542033b9.png

But it didn't last much, of course.

1-1.thumb.png.179e52b1b6a995358186fb9f8c25e6cf.png

We went to HT with a tie, definitely a good result.

ET.thumb.png.41a01421afa42904a8230718376a211b.png

But then, things got complicated.

I don't have a screenshot of the third goal because I tried to record it but couldn't export it. That third goal is the reason I'm leaving this club at the end of the season. That stupid own goal with no attacker pressing is what made me stop caring about Tahitian teams in OCL CL. Anyway, it just got worse.

281468697_Screenshot2019-08-19at13_53_12.thumb.png.fa019756b7290a2b8b049725c6abac32.png

So yeah, overachievers, but definitely not enough.

End of 2021-2022 Season

After that painful defeat I had decided to leave the club, but we still had a final to play. It went well.

1524509896_CampeondeCopa.thumb.png.02085b7e4675830f24e7ebecca242eb6.png

So, we won the domestic double, there's no team in Tahiti that can be a problem to us, but that's not enough to win the OFC CL and since no foreign players are willing to play in a country like Tahiti, it's time to move on so I can make progress with the challenge.

After three and a half years, two leagues, two cups and two OFC CL finals, I leave my first job and I hope they will do good in the future.

I think I made a mistake, I resigned and decided to go somewhere else in Oceania, but even with Tahiti beinh the 3rd most reputable league, that's not enough to get in a mid-table team of NZ first tier. But I kept on looking for jobs and I landed on Roslyn-Wakari

 1603221779_Screenshot2019-08-19at16_08_44.thumb.png.2877f49984d2dac9d5c3c6f66398a405.png

They were sitting on the 7th spot of the NZ 2nd tier, so I thought maybe finish this season and aim to promotion on the next one but I found out that there's no promotion in New Zealand so this will be just one year of trying to build a reputation to get into a first tier team or maybe go somewhere in Asia/Africa and come back later to finish in Oceania.

Screenshot 2019-08-19 at 16.45.28.png

I found a pretty decent, albeit a little short squad, luckily we have almost three months of transfer window so we'll see what we can do.

Well done in Tahiti - let's hope a top tier New Zealand club take notice soon. Perhaps managing in the country will make you more attractive to perspective clubs. I think you've done the right thing - good luck!

Thanks for reading! I hope for the same, but if the chance in NZ doesn't come, I loaded some Asian leagues with lower tiers and promotions, so I'm thinking of moving there and then come back to Oceania. It'll be fun anyway.

End of season 2022/23

Well, I had a nice and long post written but somehow lost it, there's no way I'm writing all that up again. This is a yearly update because, to be honest, it was a really boring season. We were on NZ 2nd tier, and that league has 16 matches between April and August, giving us a 7 months pre-season and two transfer windows with a couple cup games in between and a whole lot of friendlies.

277022144_Calendario1.thumb.png.e51705b493ca3113b5f919f6372151fd.png

We faced other 2nd tier teams from our zone and different ones and it was a quick view of what the real season would be. We also won our cup ties against 2nd tier teams.

2077141231_Fueracopa.thumb.png.5f74e011f2f682b4322f50eb5dad119f.png

Of course, when we had to face a first tier team, things went south. Not that we could prepare better.

Takeover.thumb.png.a6fc09cf918c0d4797f4ec541fbb3cf5.png

Seems like wherever I go, owners decide to sell and leave.

1771376091_calendario2.thumb.jpg.7a6a4dc85fe1a75a956deff7a0a115a5.jpg

As for the league, we dominated since day one and won it with 4 games left out of a total of 16, so yeah.

1945067918_Finano.thumb.png.e0bec62d8a37d37fa3c699e4bbd5998b.png

After this season I could not stand another boring 9 months of friendlies so I added some Asian leagues just in case and

Renuncia.thumb.png.f37e504736fde00f52b87c0d9aa0abb9.png

I don't know where I'll end up, but these are the leagues I have loaded right now, and I might add some more since game is still running smoothly

After rejecting lots of interviews from 2nd tier NZ teams, I finally got a great offer and I couldn't reject it.

Bad thing about Osaka is that they already won the AFC CL so if I win it here, it won't count for the challenge, but it's still a great way of gaining reputation.

Squad is way better that any other I ever had so far, but they've been underperforming.

We're 5 points clear of relegation with 4 games left to end the season, of course the main objective is win at least two of the matches and we should be good.

End of 2023

We closed the season playing the best football Japan has seen in a while. Ended 10th and aiming for great things next season.

2024 Season

I liked the squad so I only made a couple of changes, and we had a glorious pre-season (Mostly played teams from lower leagues, though) and we're off to start the league.

We're expected to end mid-table, and the odds agree.

2024 Midseason update

So here we are, seventeen matches after my last update and if I wasn't just starting this challenge, I'd say I found my place in the world in Japan. Amazing season so far.

 1390437190_Resultadosprimeravuelta.thumb.png.079d38fff1186f521a62988fecf49563.png

We had a perfect March and the only match we didn't win in April knocked us off from the JLeague Cup, but we had a perfect record in the league for the first 9 matches, and that gave us a lot of leverage.

813388860_Tablaprimeravuelta.thumb.png.45571bc93d97e74f5b592d4aa6d57968.png

We're dominating big time, such a shame Osaka already has an ACL and it won't count towards the challenge, because I think we have a team strong enough to have a long run.

2024 End season update

Well, after a great first half in the league, I started rotating a lot to give play time to some youngsters, we had mixed results, but we still won it with 4 matches remaining. The players were awesome, leading almost all stats (Alex Muralha got injured mid-season and still shows on the clean sheet top 3, I'm pleased).

Our cup performance wasn't good at all, and I was surprised to see that Emperor's cup has a 3rd place playoff.

Mid season 2025 update

We had a boring preseason, scoring +10 goals against non-league teams and only one player signed, because let's be honest, the team was almost perfect. Or that's what I thought.

1022385450_Screenshot2019-08-23at17_54_28.thumb.png.c8008b50e500ca87e69a3a9660b432d8.png

One thing I realised when I arrived there is that in Japan you can only have 5 foreigner players on your team+subs for each match, and every team has 12+ foreigners and few japanese, but I got used to it. Now, for ACL you can have only THREE foreigners on the whole registered squad. Had I known that, I would've bought some decent japanese players in positions I lacked, something I'm currently fixing right now.

In league we did great again, as expected.

367908558_Screenshot2019-08-23at17_47_44.thumb.png.cfb573d10c7524a73874f05ff9a606e1.png

League is pretty much in the bag, and players are giving their best.

 1453287076_Screenshot2019-08-23at17_47_10.thumb.png.da1e694b0acc6bfb9e621aa7c25b693c.png

We had three cups this year, the usual 2 and the Xerox Super Cup, which we had to play mid week during an international break without our four best players. We tried and we lost. The other two cups are going alright.

771065887_Screenshot2019-08-23at17_48_21.thumb.png.68bce7f83345cd8debde4d7c51f66fab.png

On my first attempt at the ACL, things are going almost perfect, even with a stupid short squad (Just fifteen players) most of our best XI are japanese so they're doing great.

November 2025

Two leagues in a row! We did even better last year, and won it with 4 matches to spare.

Seems like Japan is not my country regarding cups, got out on QF in both, but to be honest, I rotated a lot for them.

Our performance on ACL has been amazing and we're on the finals!

So we had the ACL finals coming, we were on a good shape and this happened.

Amazing performance and I got my first continental trophy! But since Osaka already won it in 2008, it doesn't count for the challenge, but sure it doesn't hurt.

746365989_Screenshot2019-08-26at19_26_46.thumb.png.3927bf6f0b45afca4e4e808efe9927b1.png

And one week from now we're playing on the Club World Cup, I just hope we can make it to semi finals and get lucky enough to play a CONMEBOL side.

I was I had to play against a team that I know and had beaten before, but I'm really disappointed, but it was one of those games. We had 3 goals disallowed and even with these stats, we lost 2-1

1884734966_Screenshot2019-08-26at19_45_09.thumb.png.491989566c19e1c836ea4245df7111de.png

But it wasn't all bad because at least we won the last playoff for the 5th place. Hey! It's something.

So this is how our season ended, and I think I'm not getting any better than this here, and it doesn't make sense for our challenge so it's time to move on.

Life is a part of learning things from environment. When we talk about games and music, both will keep us energetic and healthy.  But an entity can’t live without his/her identity and should hard work for finding it.

Mid Season 2026 update

As soon as I left Osaka, I got tempted with offers from the 2 top teams in South Korea, but I didn't accept because they already won the AFC CL, I waited a little longer and ended up getting an offer from a former rival: Hiroshima FC (Sorry I don't have the nice screenshot with the club summary, it doesn't seem to work with japanese teams in this save, it just goes to Squad). They ended 3rd on the last league so I figured that we may have a nice base to build a team that can win the AFC CL and finally move on with the challenge. I got here just before the first match of the league, so no signings made by me so far. This is the squad I found.

317774814_Screenshot2019-08-27at19_02_48.thumb.png.a9924f803727342069e07b7f9c98a463.png

Pretty good team, but the squad seems to be a little short and we don't have that much of a budget to get some backups, but fortunately, this year we're only playing league and cups (And we know how I do in Japan regarding cups). The bad thing about this year's schedule is that we have a month-long break in July due to 2026 WC.

I guess I can say we did pretty good in the league, being our worst result a 2-1 win (We won only by one goal can you believe it? what a shame) and of course, my typical loss on extra time playing the cup.

1036963376_Screenshot2019-08-27at18_51_25.thumb.png.742537badf38860831cac09c9b789de0.png

So, we go into the WC break on top of the league, it seems impossible for us to bottle it and now is just a matter of getting a couple of players, mostly backup, in order to have a good run next year on AFC CL.

Its been like that in FM for years with Japanese teams not having an overview page, am sure it's something to with licencing, could be wrong tho.

Keep up the good work.

End of season 2026

I made a fun transfer on the mid-year window that I thought you may like.

After that awesome start of the season, the rest was a walk in the park. I have to say I'm pissed that we dropped points against Renofa, when they just had 1 point out of 20 something matches, but at least we got to end the season unbeaten.

Even after this awesome year with the current squad, I already signed 4 new great players for next year and I'm hoping to get a good Japanese RB to get a good run on the AFC CL and get this challenge going!

Mid season 2027 update

As you can see, our performance in the league has been somewhat decent, I guess. (Because that's nicer than saying that Japan is my bi***) One full season and a half and we still haven't lost a single game.

1431725337_Screenshot2019-08-30at22_39_20.thumb.png.85b1a5e23bc9bdec865bfb4f536b439a.png

Of course, as usual, cups are different, it's like they forget how to play.

430602956_Screenshot2019-08-30at22_39_34.thumb.png.a5a7ac789f2e14ba234634f3651b3a80.png

In our main competition we're doing better than expected, and that's perfection.

Seems like this is our year, and we're focusing all our efforts on the AFC CL, so let's hope for the best.

As was expected, we didn't keep our winning streak until the end of the league, but we won it breaking almost every team record.

511265867_Screenshot2019-08-31at16_19_18.thumb.png.03b17569622ca663c8e22d3aee419ebb.png

We had a good cup run and ended up winning the Emperor's Cup.

But the main objective keeps running away from me. We crashed badly on Champions League SF. We had to play Saitama three times in ten days (AFC CL and Emperor's cup SF), won the first two and then bottled it. Next year, I hope.

So far so good in the league, for the first time in a row we complete the first half without giving away any points.

In the cups section, we're doing good this time, and we already won the Xerox Super Cup, so we're playing the Club World Cup at the end of this year!

This is cool!

Are you using instant result for every match? It takes me ages to get through a season and I still feel guilty for not watching more than key highlights in matches. I didn't think it was possible to do so well without actually managing the individual games.

This is also making me want to try a true multi-national journeyman save starting from the bottom. I've only ever managed in Italy besides one very brief experiment with a random lower league side in England, and I've only ever switched clubs in a few saves, all still within Italy. I normally get too attached to the clubs I'm with after having put so much work into building and perfecting them that it rarely feels worth it to leave, and I guess I worry if I start somewhere completely random like this that I'll stay trapped in that league I know nothing about and then eventually lose interest.

One question I have is why do you just resign and then wait for a job offer? Wouldn't it be better to stay at you current club and just check the job boards and secretly apply for only the select ideal openings as they pop up, still working as you wait?

One question I have is why do you just resign and then wait for a job offer? Wouldn't it be better to stay at you current club and just check the job boards and secretly apply for only the select ideal openings as they pop up, still working as you wait?

Hi! Thanks for reading! Yes, I'm using instant result for most of this save, I only watch continental finals, if I get there. It's something new I'm trying for this save, I spent the whole year doing shorter saves that took a lot of IRL time and with this one I just wanted to advance a lot of years and try different tournaments, league formats, etc just for fun. I started it because I was just like you, wanting to have a multi-national save, on all my other ones i just stayed for 8-10 years in the same team until I got bored but couldn't leave after all the work i had put there.

I resign because I can get a new job faster if I advance/go on holiday without a job, it's just that.

I'm not done with the season yet, but some sneak peek of what's coming

We had to suffer, I suffered a lot of mini heart-attacks but here we are.

This will be my fourth continental final, I lost two with AS Manu Ura in Tahiti and won with Osaka, who I just beat in SF.

End of season 2028

We had a perfect year domestically, winning every possible competition. League, both cups and the Super cup.

We had to play the finals of the AFC Champions League, and this was the second leg. A very FM like match, given the circumstances.

We won the cup on away goals! After blowing a 1-3 lead away, we were able to secure a tie and became champions!

After that win, we faced the FIFA WC, which saw us fall in Semi Finals giving our best against Barcelona in extra time

We beat River (and that's always nice being a real life Boca fan haha) for the 3rd place, so I'm pretty happy with how we did.

In the end, we had a great year, with an awesome squad.

Now that I finally completed one continent from the challenge, I'm moving out of Asia.

End of 2029 review

So after dominating Asia we moved to the United States for a new challenge. Got there on preseason and got carried away so there's only one update for the year. Also, since MLS has the weirdest squad registration rules, I just hired a DoF and let him manage signings and contracts. Anyway, things were great, I think the tactic is just OP.

So, we got out of the cup in SF, but we dominated the league and won the MLS Supporters Shield in a brilliant way. There was a little suffering involved in winning the MLS Cup but we did it anyway and we qualified to Concachampions so things are going awesome.

Congrats on the AFC Champions League win! And what a fantastic first season in America!

I had a brief save with Orlando a few years back but as you say, the squad registration and salary cap rules for the better of me!

I still am amazed that you've managed to do so well without managing in-match or even handling signings yourself. I'm not trying to discredit your fantastic achievements, but how are you consistently winning everything when it seems largely AI-controlled? Are you just really really good at setting up tactics before each match? What's your secret? I feel like if I didn't handle signings or in-match instructions I would do miserably.

Thanks! The squad registration are really a pain if you're not used to it, I hope I can win here before the team starts to age haha

I have to tell you I'm pretty surprised as well. I use the same tactic on every team, just with minor tweaks depending on my players. It's an attacking 4-4-2 based on a tactic from Tuitbol (A really great argentinian FM streamer) and I change some positions/instructions based on the rival, players, rotation, etc. It relies quite a bit on playing rough, so the downside of playing with Instant Result is getting more players sent off than usual, because I can't tell them to ease off tackles when they get their first yellow.

When I'm home I can upload some screenshots and the tactic, if you want.

The key here is having fast wingers and strikers (All of them have +15) and strong competent Centre-backs. If you want the full instructions (it's in Spanish, but it's easy, if you need help, let me know and I can translate if for you) it's in this Twitter thread
