Fosse Posted July 4, 2019 Share Posted July 4, 2019 Vålerenga Like a lot of FM players I struggle to get into a save if I don't have a connection with the team, I'm particularly bad for this as I can only immerse myself into a save if I've been to the place where a team is located. It's a bit silly but really difficult for me to get over it; however I recently went to Oslo because a mate met a Bochumer who lives in Oslo at Union Berlin away via the Leicester - Bochum friendship and we got invited over (simple enough ). Fan culture also means a lot to me and the derby against Lillestrom was the game I went to, the less said about the result the better but it provided in plenty of other ways. It's not been great for Vålerenga recently and their fans joke that they try to win the 7th place trophy every season, hopefully I can end the midtable mediocrity. We were unconvincing against Start and I couldn't really put more finger on why which was frustrating. A much improved performance against Ranheim was needed and I only made a few tweaks to the starting XI rather than tactical. This is how we're lining up now: I prefer to shape my tactics with roles and duties rather than instructions, which is possibly why performances might be fluctuating from game to game. Fosse Posted July 5, 2019 Author Share Posted July 5, 2019 April 2018 We're picking up results but it's hard to say we've been convincing, a superb result against reigning champions Rosenborg was enjoyable. We were dreadful in the first half but Bard Finne scored a belter from a difficult angle and then added another through a free kick 5 minutes later. Fosse Posted July 7, 2019 Author Share Posted July 7, 2019 July 2018 Tactical change It seems obvious now but the squad is much better suited to a 433, central midfield is our strongest position and our wingers aren't comfortable in the ML/R spots. Standard and positive lead to mostly lacklustre football in the 4411, already in the friendlies it looks as though there's more oomph here - especially in a convincing performance against a better Brøndby side (albeit in a friendly). The Molde game was frustrating because they had 10 for most of the game, took a late Shala strike from the edge of the box to equalise. Fosse Posted July 7, 2019 Author Share Posted July 7, 2019 Our Ghana international keeper is joining NYCFC at the end of the season, we got more than he's valued and he indicated he'd be unsettled if I didn't accept. I can't shake the feeling that we're winning because of player quality rather than our system which seems daft considering the scorelines. We score a lot of goals from corners and from range which is great but it hardly feels sustainable. Vålerenga don't have the capability to pay the same wages as Rosenborg, I knew that already, what I didn't know was how big the disparity was. Even smaller clubs are paying more. I gave minutes to some high(ish) potential but they're probably not good enough to make it at Vålerenga. We couldn't score and it was inevitable they'd score because they'd offered nothing all game. They deserved nothing, Qarabag were terrible, they didn't defend well, they didn't transition out well out of their shoddy defence and they couldn't build any meaningful attacks but that doesn't matter when you ping one in from 25 yards out does it? Smash and grab. Smash and grab. Smash and grab. Look at this shot map. Just look at it. A can't spake. . This isn't one of those "I had 23 shots and I didn't win !!!!" complaints, this is pure unadulterated Football Manager. Freddy Adu, Carlos Fierro and Mark Kerr died for this and they're smiling down upon us, their heavenly glow blinding us as we fall to our knees recounting our sins. Now we've got to fly to some backwater in Middle Earth and try and get 2 away goals without reply, why are these orcs in even in UEFA? Azerbaijan is definitely not in Europe. So we dropped into the Europa League qualifiers, obviously the money is better there but I love the Europa League as it turns out much better ties and the it's not quite as sanitised as Champions League football. This is who we got: A game against a fellow Nordic side, I'm not too sure how good they are but I'd expect us to be beating them.
