[FM19] The King of Europa

Just got caught up with this. Great story so far. Hopefully the Europa League thing was just due to the World Cup, or does it seem to be a bug? Also, I may have missed it but how are you working out the attrition values?

Thanks very much. I looked around on the forums for mentions of this and someone on the bugs forum raised that it is in fact intentional and it is how SI decided to deal with the Qatar World Cup to drop the number of matches. Although there conflicting reports from other forums and Reddit that if you managed in a different country it was no different to normal. I think has nothing to do with the db I picked and is because of the World Cup, expect it to be back to normal this year.

The attrition values are calculated in Excel, basically there is a chance I believe 40% that a country gets attrition. If it doesn't get it then it gets zero for that season. If it does randomly get a number that is between 1-40 then it gets attrition of between 10 and 40% for the season. Once that country gets 100% and provided I am not managing there it is replaced by a new country. If I am managing in the country then it will be replaced once I leave for a club outside the country or I go into unemployment.

So in short, its randomly drawn, and if the number is between 1-40, then randomly drawn attrition. Once the cumulative amount is 100% the country is replaced. Statistically most countries should last an average of 10 years in game before being replaced and obviously can come back at a later point.

Thanks for the info.

Having a bug crop up a few years into a save is something that puts me off using custom dbs at times. I had one bug out in Eastern Europe a couple of FMs ago and it put me off a little bit.

Yeah, this year has been pretty bad for unreliable dbs. The air miles game I just finished half the Fiji tournaments didn't go past the group stage. However I think this Europa League one is actually by design due to the Qatar World Cup.

Dynamo Moscow (August 2023)

67cdafada2742f53426611b82313a115.png

August has been a decent enough month for us, we did lose our first game away to Zenit, but they are flying and in fairness we gave them a game despite playing for a good portion of the game when Charlie Hay got himself sent off. The draw against Yenisey I still have no idea how we did not score, we battered them all game having over 20 shots at their goal and just could not find a way through, we did however recover as we visitied Sochi and recorded a 5-1 win.

037ef48c1ad71337cf1e390d0e0f4850.png

Zenit are the runaway leaders at the moment in the league clearly making up for the subpar season they had last year. We sit 2nd, three point ahead of Lokomotiv Moscow, who also look much better this season than last. CSKA are having a difficult start and have already replaced the manager this season, but Spartak Moscow are having a torrid start, still in the relegation places having already lost 3 times this season. They are only off the top because they just managed their first win away to Lokomotiv Moscow. I am sure they will improve but they already look like they may not be challenging this season.

We let Miladin Nikolajev go on loan to Javor Ivanjica in his home country of Serbia, as he is fifth choice centre back and might stagnate with his playing time at Dynamo Moscow this season, so hopefully he can go to Serbia, put in the performances and come back a better player.

Dynamo Moscow (Champions League Group F vs Manchester United)

732b1cf4d2cc8eb918f475f499c0693f.png

We were very unlucky to come away with nothing from our game against Manchester United at Old Trafford. I would argue for large periods we were the better side, but our poor start really worked against us as we could not get the second goal that would give us parity. Man Utd know they were in a game though and I am proud of the boys for the performance.

9a622e80c0e0f0da1b5cacab27ccb3cf.png

The other game in the group finished 1-1 as Marseille got a point at the Nou Camp, that is probably a bad thing for us, as getting through this group was likely going to be impossible and our best chance of continuing with European football would be to finish 3rd and qualify for the Europa League knockout stages.

e6a44b8f333c051154564a5949d097db.png

The game against Zorkiy ended up being an easy one as we came through 2-0 winners. We probably could and should have scored a few more considering how dominant we were in the game but we advance to the 6th Round of the Kubok Rossii.

Dynamo Moscow (September 2023)

9a629c1254f6947f4832ce1f482babdb.png

We have had a very good September as we suffer the only loss to Manchester United in the Champions League, despite feeling like we could have got a draw out of the game. Elsewhere we have been great, beating Lokomotiv Moscow 5-0 at home and winning at CSKA Moscow were the highlights as we continued our form in the league.

75851335e4a2f900eb1951429b45f3fc.png

We sit top of the table, but Zenit do have a game in hand which if they win will put them back on top due to our current head to head record which favours them. Spartak Moscow are slowly recovering from their slumber as they move to 6th in the table. CSKA Moscow are having an abysmal season, as the managerial change does not seem to be working as they currently occupy a relegation place. I am sure they will improve, but with 18 points between us and them already, I think they can forget about any notions of challenging for the league this season.

Dynamo Moscow (Champions League Group F vs Barcelona)

2602a3d8669cdcebef6a2624bc5b1564.png

We again have reason to feel agrieved at the result and not our performance as we go down to Barcelona 1-0 through a Phillippe Coutinho long strike. Again we were probably the better side and deserved more from our performance.

0d0c00ef2cc938860b8dac1899e76473.png

In the other game Marseille managed to secure a 3-3 draw against Manchester United at home, which probably puts us even more up against it for Europa League qualification.

A loss in the south of France probably means that for all intents and purposes our European adventure is likely to end in the Group stages of the Champions League. Again I felt we could have easily got something out of the game.

Dynamo Moscow (October 2023)

bd3b2e0fc7834c38aec01357af07ccca.png

As can be seen it has been a short but tough month, as we lost both games in the Champions League to more than likely bow out of Europe for the season. We did however beat a very tough side in Ufa at their ground as Nemeth popped up with two goals to get us the victory.

c9ca2620e396685438adcf40ff2bb1f6.png

We are top of the league with Rostov in 2nd place, as they have played two more games. Zenit are three points behind us and still very much in the hunt. Spartak Moscow have improved a lot to make it to 5th place, but still off title challenging pace. CSKA Moscow have got better but they could not really have done much worse.

Dynamo Moscow (Champions League Group F vs Marseille)

94f181f25f61c983198d473194dc43b6.png

We finally managed to get a win which I think we have deserved all throughout this competition, as we beat Marseille 3-2 at home. I guess we have a small chance of qualifying for the Europa League. It will require us probably to win the game against Manchester United at home and then hope results go our way. I mean technically we can still make it out of the group in second spot, but I really can't see that happening.

13149f2928540a0ee2efd6d26b3048ab.png

Manchester United completed the double over Barcelona in the other groups game with a 2-1 home win. We probably did Barcelona a big favour by winning our game, otherwise it would have been out of their hands whether they qualified for the next round or not.

Dynamo Moscow (Champions League Group F vs Manchester United)

ad9182dd19e6ea998fd315ea02ec8637.png

We led 2-0 against Manchester United into the 88th minute, but they managed to pull two late goals back to get a point out of the game as it finishes 2-2. That draw is not enough to keep us in the Champions League and we are officially knocked out, but could still possibly qualify for the Europa League.

6b230bd83f6b4fc60492e4310125ebaa.png

Sensationally Barcelona are also out of the Champions League as they lost to Marseille 1-0. This actually means in the final game we need to beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp to qualify for the Europa League, any other result and Barcelona will go to the Europa League instead.

Dynamo Moscow (November 2023)

d35f064cebdff01e21bfec953af5314a.png

November is in the books and we have been decent if not outstanding. We got through in the cup again Yenisey and then drew to Rotor Volgograd whom are definately becoming somewhat of a bogey side for us. We then beat Spartak in the league 2-0 before a bit of a shock loss at Krasnodar, shock in terms of the scoreline not that we lost, as somehow despite being the better side we were well beaten. We are now out of the Champions League, there is a very slim chance we could still progress to the Europa League if we can somehow beat Barcelona in Spain.

d7dc98716296d6a7738266fa9ad4faf8.png

We are top of the league by two points from Rostov who have played one more game. Zenit are three points behind us having played the same number of games. CSKA Moscow continue to languish in the league and Spartak Moscow are now in with a shot of closing the gap as they are 8 points behind us having played the same number of games. At the half way point of the season we are top but it is still pretty close.

e288c3c1012e3386b38ac7faeb08cdb7.png

The first leg of the Kubok Rossii Quarter Final is here and we produced a good display to win the game 3-1. Arsenal Tula may feel that having got a goal back late on they may still have a chance in the tie, but I overall I am pretty happy with the result and expect us to now get through to the semi final.

The real Barcelona turned up in this tie, and we had no chance as they played us off the park winning 3-0. European football is over for this season, I expect we should be back next season.

In the other game of the group Manchester United ensured they would win the group with a 2-0 win over Marseille at Old Trafford.

Dynamo Moscow (December 2023)

77b25dd632beb2ec7773f162fe9661de.png

I am generally quite happy with our performances this month, the one blemish was a draw against Tom Tomsk which we should be winning. Elsewhere as mentioned previously we are looking good to get through to the semi final of the Kubok Rossii. The winter break will now kick in until about February.

6d2a8e8ba4f8410726736ea845b2e505.png

We top the table, two points clear of Rostov, whom have played 2 more games than us. Zenit have played one less than us and are 4 points behind, so it is still very close at the top. CSKA Moscow just can't get going this season and once again find themselves in the relegation playoff places, this must be one of the worst seasons they have ever had.

Two right sided wingers in Vitaly Dorofeev and Sergey Zakharov are the pick of the bunch from this year's youth intake.

72f8876707669803a21476d287f33c01.png

Dorofeev ir arguably already top division standard, so I think he will be added to the first team and we will see whether he plays or perhaps loans may help him develop.

We needed to avoid Arsenal Tula getting off to an early lead and getting their tails up and we did that an in fact we were the ones with the early lead, and we kept for the whole game winning 1-0 on the night to make the passage to the next round rather comfortable.

We decide to cash in Spanish full back Blas. He was second choice and I want to start bringing in youth in those reserve spots, rather than foreign players (which count against the match foreign cap) to be deputizing. He was a good player for us so he goes to Mlada Boleslav with our blessing. The deal comes to £2.1m and could still rise to £2.6m

We take the advantage going into the second leg as we come back from 1-0 down to win the game 3-1, showing a superb fightback in front our fans. Spartak will feel they still have a chance at home, but with this lead we should hopefully be able to advance to the final now.

Dynamo Moscow (March 2024)

8d23679c424ca18dbbc7d28797e2c411.png

It is an unbeaten month that we opened up with a win against Zenit St Petersburg whom have been hounding us down in the league so it was nice to beat them, this was followed by a narow 1-0 win against Ural and then two draws. It could have been better but it could have also been worse. I hope we can get back to winning ways sooner rather than later.

9103fca0966d886f34ed00e18d5295b3.png

It is a testament to Spartak Moscow that they have come right back into the picture and are now only 3 points behind us with 9 games of the season to go. Zenit if they win their games in hand could go within two points of us, so it is still very much anyones league title this season, we cannot afford to have the April that we had last year, where we essentially bottled the title.

It took a late goal from David Nemeth to send us through as we had to withstand the Spartak attacks, and when they got 2-0 up it looked like they would go on and advance to the final, but David Nemeth was the hero as he got the goal that would send us through on aggregate, losing 2-1 on the night but winning on 4-3 on aggregate to advance to the final.

Dynamo Moscow (April 2024)

20d08720dbde6c4d3a14ea7ad614e05d.png

We had another very tough April and again results were mixed. We lost to Lokomotiv Moscow after leading 3-1 at half time, which was infuriating. We did beat bottom of the table Sochi, before we again threw away another lead as we led Rostov 2-0 in the 92nd minute and somehow contrived to end up drawing the game 2-2. We are really beginning to bottle this again.

1d44346b98d8a2c082f206853aae311b.png

Well now there is no room for mistakes, Spartak Moscow sit on our tail on the same points as us and it is only virtue to our win at home against them that we are ahead. We still have to go to their ground in May, so this title race could go right down to the wire. Zenit could still be in the race, but they need to be perfect with their games in hand to close that gap. Rostov also could have an outside shout in this. Lokomotiv have played too many games and have to few points to really trouble the lead.

Dynamo Moscow (Early May 2024)

e12434b58bd57872f419504f55228390.png

This title is going to go down to the wire and I think I may as well bring it to you game by game. The first two fixtures of the month see us unshackle ourselves and give Krylja Sovetov and Ufa a drubbing, two fixtures I was extremely worried about going into them.

78e58aa1885657cff4193ff67ebc01d4.png

Spartak Moscow are top of the table having played one more game than us and holding a 3 point lead. At this stage it is looking like a two horse race between us both. The next game in the league is us away at Spartak Moscow, and this could be the decider. Head to head could come into it, if Spartak Moscow drop points elsewhere. The result in the home fixture was a 2-0 win for us so to continue to beat Spartak on head to head we need to lose by less than that margin. Obviously that is already a problem losing leaving them with two wins to take the title, so if we can get a draw, the league will be in our hands going into the final three fixtures we have to play in the league.

Dynamo Moscow (Russian Premier League vs Spartak Moscow)

72d7b44d54cb2bb735904351a8c46026.png

We led again in a game which we end up losing as we fall in what could be the title decider to Spartak Moscow 3-2 in the end. Disappointing and it is definately in the hands of Spartak now. We now need them to lose, by first that our head to head will be better, if they do lose and we win, we would leapfrog Spartak Moscow in the league. They have Rotor Volgograd away and Krasnodar at home still to play, not the easiest games, but they would be favourites for both games.

8b1167e70d7d3630dcf0e65be3ec81f0.png

6 points behind with a game in hand, we are reliant on results elsewhere now, we will see if either Rotor Volgograd or Krasnodar can do us a massive favour and for that matter we still need to win all our remaining games which won't be easy.

We do our job emphatically as we fight to stay in this title race. we beat Ural 5-0 on the night, to keep our hopes alive.

a9ab0ca2ec2ac0d142951363fbaae022.png

Lucky ****ing bastards! 94th minute goal, gives them the win and Rotor Volograd have two men sent off, when it is going your way, it is going your way. We would really have needed them to lose anyway so it really comes down to whether Krasnodar can pull off a huge shock on the final day.

754f9afee6de3734d4cde37bb76300b0.png

We can only reach 66 points now, Spartak Moscow already have those points and for our purposes they cannot get any more. If Spartak get any points from their final game they are champions, there is still very much a chance they can lose and still be champions, the odds are stacked against us now.

Well this season is just turning into a terrible season for us as we lose the Kubok Rossii final to Rotor Volgograd, doubly sour as they just probably handed Spartak the title. Well it is difficult not to put the moniker of bottle-jobs on this side, we get into the positions and just can't execute the finish. Very angry, very disappointed with the team.

e20692c50705dd55fa1b4b6e116813a3.png

A few days after we lost the cup final to them we have to play them again in the league and this time anything other than a win will hand Spartak Moscow the title. This time we dominate the game and manage to get a measure of revenge on Rotor as we run out 3-0 winners.

b7f2eec06faffddd00ab3e851f0e9420.png

Spartak Moscow did not play this fixture as now all teams have played 29 games and with one to go the equation is very simple. A win or draw for Spartak will make them Russian champions, if they lose and we do not win they are also champions, but if they lose and win away to Tom Tomsk then Dynamo Moscow will be champions. We must win against Tom Tomsk to have any chance of the title now. We have to do our part and hope that things go our way.

We did our job very creditibly as went to Tom Tomsk and won very well by 4-0. In the end clearly we knew the job we had to do and we did it.

d60751c02536be1f1cb761014106a5f9.png

Unfortunately elsewhere Spartak Moscow also did the job they needed to do and beat Krasnodar 2-1 to give them the title.

9d5446af5849637ef0fa302bdd31c3fc.png

Well we finish runners up again and really we only have ourselves to blame, yes Spartak did amazingly to come back from the start they had but we again became too lax when it came to the end of the year and April always seems to be when we go off the boil and let the chasing pack back in. We bottled it, like we bottled the cup final. Will I still be at Dynamo next year I do not know, we will see whether any offers come in, but it annoys me that I have not been able to win the league with this side, because we should be capable but just don't have the right mentality when it matters to get over the line.
