i'm having the same issues as described above. I use a Mac, updated to the latest OS

 

Ive solved it - Left click on your desktop. Click Go at the top of your screen. Then Go To Folder. Paste ~/Library/Application Support/   go to Steam.  Delete ONLY Steam.AppBundle Delete Steam from Applications folder. Reinstall steam and login.

Thank you, Can you try using Australia as the download region and see if it works, please? You can do this via Steam -> Settings -> Downloads -> Download Region. If it doesn't work I will suggest you to try every region to see if one works.

 

By any chance you have anti-virus installed on the Mac?

I've changed my download region to Australia.... and now Steam won't open at all.  (I am based in the UK)

What anti-virus are you using? Can you make sure that your anti-virus is not scanning Football Manager and Steam, please? Anti-virus could interfere with updates and downloads.

Mines started working from yesterday morning. I uninstalled all of steam. EVERY steam folder was deleted on my macbook. Then I reinstalled it all and currently working fine (touch wood!).

Avast. That doesn't seem to be the problem. has never been an issue before. I have uninstalled steam, reinstalled, and it still will not open (after I changed the download region to australia)

 

I have FM and Steam as exceptions. Steam will not open since I changed the download region to Australia. When I put in my password, it closes. I can see it disappear from 'force quit applications' when I type in my password. previously Steam would open but FM would not.

What do you mean by "not opening", did any message pop up when you tried to launch Steam? 

Sometimes anti-virus can interfere with update and download, as a test we would suggest you to make sure that you have FM and Steam as exception for your anti-virus.
