Hi,

I have played a game of FM17 for about a year and it recently started to freeze at different times (gameplay, startup and just in-game). The entire computer freezes so the only thing I can do is to press the power button to shut it down.

I am no computer-wiz, so I might have made something wrong, but I tried these things:

I deleted preferences and cache and verified

Reinstalled the game

Tried the speedfan and the stability test with that fur-something program

Un- and re-installed the intel graphics card

I have put down the graphic settings to medium and played in a small window

In the game I used the editor to change the stadium size, apart from that I havent changed or downloaded anything.  Would be thankful for any assistance!

What game version are you using?

Please also attach a dxdiag report- instructions in the FAQ thread

Can you confirm which of the 2 graphics cards on your machine is set as default for the game?

From the task manager it looks like both are active, but could you explain how I will know which one is the default?

By the way, it seems the version is 17.3.2

Go to the bottom right of your taskbar, click on the upwards arrow and there should be an icon for NVidia settings.  Click on that and then on Manage 3D settings on the left pane.  Then select Program settings and click on the NVidia card as default for both FM and steam.  Then update the NVidia driver from the NVidia website and see if that helps.

Well, that worked perfectly for a couple of weeks. Then it froze during gameplay and now It freezes at startup every time. Any other suggestions?

Did you update the NVidia card driver?

Not entirely sure what that means but I dont think so. As far as I know I'm using Nvidia and Intel graphics.

I have not downloaded anything extra for the game if that's what it means.

For third-party graphics, I mean logos, skins, real name fixes or anything that is downloaded and added to the graphics folder.

I am sure that it is a graphics issue, so can you please attach an updated dxdiag report

OK- dxdiag shows nothing

Try this:

First of all, right-click on your desktop and select 'New' -> 'Folder'

Create a folder and name it something to distinguish it (say SI backup)

Once you've done this go to your Sports Interactive folder found within 'documents' which by default is at the following location - C:\Users\[YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME]\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017

This should contain folders like 'games', 'crash dumps' etc. Please cut every folder from here and paste them into the folder you've created on your desktop.

Once you've done this and the Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2018 folder is now empty, launch the game. If it works, copy back the files from the desktop folder and hopefully it should now load without any issues.

The first time I tried it crashed and a blue screen came up saying something about "video scheduler".

Then I tried again and it still freezes but a bit later into the startup meny.

The blue screen definitely suggests that there is a hardware error, I suspect with the graphics.  Does it happen with any other game?

If it helps: I have Intel and Nvidia graphics. I tried to disable the Intel card. Then the game will start but runs really slow and in settings the "this computers 3d graphics capacity" will show only half a star (very low). Before I had five stars.

You shouldn't have to disable the intel card if the NVidia one is set as default for the game as was suggested in a previous post.  Try uninstalling the NVidia card driver and then installing it again.

Installed and launched Civilization 6 with Nvidia set as default and it froze. I also ran FM17 with the Intel as default and it worked even if it was slow.

Reinstalled the Nvidia driver but no change.

So I'm guessing there is something wrong with the Nvidia card. It did however work when I disabled Intel as posted above...

That does suggest that the issue is with the NVidia card- try rolling back the driver on the card and see if that makes a difference.  Try also reducing the graphics quality in preferences on a trial and error basis and see what impact that makes.

I cant push the "Roll back driver" button, it's grey. Graphics quality in preferences in the game i suppose? They are already at very low.

I was in contact with Nvidia support and they suggested:

I request you to download the drivers from the manufacturer website including the motherboard and chipset drivers.
Krishna: Also the BIOS
Krishna: While updating the BIOS, please seek the help of the manufacturer, because it may harm the computer, if not properly updated.
Krishna: After that try reinstalling the drivers.

Is this something that could work in your opinion?

In my view this is definitely an issue with the NVidia card, so reinstalling the card, driver and all the other drivers is advisable.  Do that first and then take advice before updating the BIOS
