In need of assistance with assists

Recommended Posts

I've been unable to produce any assists from central areas on this years game. I've tried plenty of tactics and approaches, but I always seem to 'avoid' the central assists. I've tried both narrow or wide tactics and shorter or more direct passing. Anyone having similar troubles? Pictures show my current setup with Manchester United. The goals have been flowing early on in the season, but none from the central areas of the pitch?

I've had the same struggles on other saves as well, including one with City. Tactics have been working great, but not being able to produce assists from central positions is annoying me greatly.

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you playing on a Mac?

There was a bug in the game where it didn’t record assists in the central areas. It’s a User Interface bug, so your team generates assists from that area of the pitch but it doesn’t get recorded as that.

Here is a link to the thread in the Bugs forum:

I think the latest Public Beta has fixed that issue though. Still testing it out but I think it’s fixed!

A good way to check if it’s a UI issue or a tactical issue is to check if the AI manager’s assists are getting recorded from central areas or not. If they’re not, then you know it’s a UI issue.

You can see these stats for Opposition teams in the Team Report if you scout Next Opposition. Or just ask one of your scouts to compile a team report on any other AI Team.

I don't think it's a UI issue, though I do play on a mac. I just checked the City save, and as you can see, the opposition scouting report shows Newcastle to have central assist location. Crystal Palace as well.

Looking at your posts, you are not failing to create chances from central areas, just not from deep positions. Which kinda makes sense from your roles. You are attacking, so you will get the ball forward quickly and take more risks. You most advanced players are on the flanks, so a lot of crosses make sense (discount the striker, on support if he is involved in the buildup the ball is likely going wide). A BBM may not get a lot of chances to get forward in this situation. In possession, your DLP will be a ball magnet, and the best forward passing options for him will also be on the flanks. An AMC(S) will drop quite deep, and even playing the ball to the BBM or CF will likely still find a better ball wide.

You can also note you score a third of your goals with Man Utd from advanced central positions. You also have 16 through balls and 23 short passes for your other example with Manchester City as assists. So I fail to see the problem. Especially with the second tactic, which as a super aggressive and advanced midfield.

Who are you expecting to provide assists in your midfield. To whom are they supposed to provide them?

Because they are underdog teams that play rather defensive football relying on counter-attacks via quick direct/longer passes (through balls) played from deep directly to onrushing forwards. Unlike you, who manage top teams that usually face defensive opposition that stays deep, so it's logically a lot more difficult for you to create chances in the way they do.

As @sporadicsmiles rightly pointed out:

So if I understand you correctly, playing faster on the break with lower LoE, lower defensive line, more direct passing and higher tempo through the middle would result in more assists from deep central positions?

Having a playmaker able to make assists, and central runners able to get onto them will lead to central assists.
