Overview:

This file redefines the English league structure into regional divisions through all the levels, including the top flight. The structure is as follows:

Teams can move laterally to make up numbers in the divisions but can never move between the two separate halves of the structure.

There are a total of 644 teams in the pyramid, with 262 in the North, and 382 in the South.

Premier Leagues:

In each of these leagues, each of the 12 teams plays all the others twice each (home and away) for 22 games. After this the leagues split. The top 4 teams in each league create an 8 team championship playoff league, which they keep their existing points going in to. In this mini-league they then play each team home and away to determine a final placing of these top 8 teams. The bottom 8 teams in each league also create their own mini-leagues, playing each other home and away again in order to decide the three teams which are relegated from each half. Again, points from the first stage carry over in to the second half of the season. Much like the real life Scottish premiership, teams from the relegation group cannot overtake teams in the championship playoff in the final standings, even though they might end up on more points from playing the weaker opposition. Below are screenshots from a simulated season showing this all in action.

Continental qualification is untouched and goes to the top 7 teams in the championship playoff

Championships:

Unlike the two premier leagues, the championships operate independently of one another, as do the two structures on all the remaining levels of the pyramid. The Northern and Southern Championships both contain 20 teams, with 3 teams getting promoted (two automatically and one from a 4 team playoff) to the relevant premier league and 4 teams getting relegated (all automatic) to the relevant conference.

Conferences:

The final fully linear level of each half of the pyramid are the Northern and Southern Conferences. Each of these contains 24 teams. In each half 4 teams gain promotion (3 automatically, one from a 4 team playoff) to the relevant championship. In the Northern Conference, 3 teams are relegated down to the Northern Regional Premier Leagues (North-West Premier League, North-East Premier League, Midlands League 1) and in the Southern Conference, 4 teams are relegated down to the Southern Regional Premier Leagues (Southern League and Central Premier League).

Lower Divisions:

The remaining divisions, going down to an eight tier are shown above and get increasingly more regional as you go down the levels, down to the Sussex & Wessex County Championship and the Heart of England Championship on the 8th tier of the pyramid. As in the real life structure, it is possible for any team anywhere in the pyramid to get increasingly promoted up to the top flight. A selection of divisions are shown below.

Youth Setup:

All teams have an U23 and an U18 team, although only the teams in the top few tiers have their youth teams play in youth leagues. This is to be added later, however it still allows youth development of players now.

Known Issues:

  • The winner of the FA Cup does not yet get qualification to the UEFA Cup
  • Makes Scotland an unplayable nation
