I recall this kind of fraudulence happening on FM17 quite often. It's an unforgiving version of the game, that's for sure. Hopefully you end up getting it to go in your favor more times than not though! Interesting read so far, love how you put just the right amount of detail into it. Not too much, not too little. Keep it up! :)

Cheers man! Really appreciate it.

The level of detail is something that always fluctuate massively in my saves (scouts would claim my consistency is lacking), but I definitely also feel like I've hit a good balance lately. Makes the save more immersive for me as well.

Game wise, things are not really going in our favor yet.

We signed Forest Whitaker's unknown - and white - brother! (in hindsight, considering Forest's age, it's probably more likely to be his son)

7350c3fb8c0e54dd443f23e80f7c3578.png

He'll be a great addition to our defence next season.

And Kevin is just going from strength to strength! Even though he hasn't had the best season so far, I think my latest change tactically can do him good (the first, and only, game with a new 4-3-1-2 narrow formation was the one against Napoli, who we dominated).

0c352967834cee197bbbbe0800f05203.jpg

Oh how I love his attributes. ;)

The rest of the world has caught on though, but they'll have to come up with much better offers than these!

So, Udinese pulled their Dickmann out at half time? Seems a bit premature to me...

I guess they went Dick-less in second half.

I imagine that left there fans sad and unsatisfied.

We finish this beauty off with a hammer from Stoyle that gets denied by the crossbar!

We still manage to lose.

Better watch out about Stoyle...refusing Valencia's offer might send him into a funk or start a dressing room uprising!

Haha aye, he better not! We have plenty to deal with all the clubs wanting to stealing our players without our players wanting to get stolen too.

Seeing as January is soon over we have a few more deals to announce.

First up is Macedonian international, Darko, who we stole for 300k as he had a release clause. I really like the look of him, as well as the alleged extra potential. If not for the nEU problem in terms of registration he'd slot straight in ahead of Pitocchi for the AMC spot, but for now we'll see when he is able to be registered.

9fc49d45a4b80e90a6d74525c8f624f7.jpg

We also did some more pre-emptive summer business.

I've long had my eyes on Kari-Kari at Nordsjælland, but they've been demanding crazy money - 16M - for him, and no one went for him. Ended up with picking him up on the free instead. I really like him, and he can be very valuable in midfield next season.

8396a4001cf82d61e425dc73db440c6d.jpg

And lastly we picked up this British Mr. Resting Bitchface. i like his size and power, and if Stoyle stays for a longer period I think he could be a better match in a two-man front than Capuani is atm. although I really like Capuani tbf.

"Preben! Preben! What do you have to say about all the rumors about new jobs? Your name is frequently being linked with any and all openings in clubs around Europe!"

Preben looked at the reporter in confusion. "I understand why they want me haha! But I haven't heard anything about it, so there's no worries!"

"Preben! But how can you have avoided all the media surrounding these rumors?"

Galdino leaned in and grabbed the microphone in front of Preben, "Listeno, Prébi here, he no wanna to leave, no? So he stay, yes. Okay? Capiche? Good."

And as such Prébi and Galdino left the press conference following the 10th job offer, that Prébi incidentally hadn't heard the slightest about.

We're beating Napoli big time at the moment in the Italian Cup QF, but erhm. I kind of don't have any goalkeepers on my bench, and Virginia just got injured.

So, erh. Yeah.

Guess who'll go into goal.

For the last 15 minutes I changed to this setup:

9078e1491d786847a911f3354b2e8230.png

With "fairly narrow" and "more disciplined" on standard, flexible, and then we just steam rolled them. Not a chance for them as we hit the crossbar, the post, as well as a couple cccs and a couple shots that forced huge saves.

1cef0140394f096c44cce43e5ddb9770.jpg

We just crushed Napoli. With Balotelli in goal from the 20th minute. And he ended with 7.1.

Ugh. Honestly, we should have won this one. We had Capuani one-on-one with keeper where he slammed it past the far post, then later he was alone again and hammered it on the post. Simoncini also found himself alone with the keeper! I was certain he'd score. But he made a pass to the keeper who picked it up and sent a counter in our face. Icardi scored on the counter.

I guess it's about time to do a sort of proper update again?

"Yes boss, good idea, boss!"

Thanks Mumbu, can always count on you.

22nd March, 2025

So, I only just realized that the Italian Cup has two games for their semi-finals, so we still have a chance of going through as the second game is at our home in about 1.5 months!

And we've had our intake of the year!

Lots of good stuff.

The intake

Looking very good!

Judge for yourself, but Paccagnella (love that name) and Francioso are my favorites right off the bat!

Matches

We've had our share of ups and downs during this season.

bcf7459d00853c4ed2e183eba2e06b5a.jpg

Coming off the back of those two superb victories we are sitting 13th with potential to move further up. Luckily we seem to be safe from relegation as well! Salernitana with 0 wins after 28 games.. ouch.

c463dd0a823992a351d8dcf40fee79cc.jpg

I also noticed, that Empoli ruined their entire seaso - either due to a clause or just sheer stupidity. They sold Valeriano, if any of you remember that guy.

This guy:

6de0624a59e3aefaa2bde212a52b7c01.jpg

Inter bought him for 16.5M (21.5M) and since then, they've only won 1 game, and never scored more than 1 per game.

Would hate to be in their shoes now.

Our own players performances are looking much better:

The return match has left me even more frustrated!

660de5515ec95dbcec4bc2cba8aa76d9.jpg

We have a DEPLETED team. Filip is our 3rd choice right back, Bain is 2nd choice CB, Sampirisi is usually a right back, Petrillo and Grassi are backups that haven't played most of the season bar injuries, Simoncini is a starter as well as Capuani (who had a **** game though), and Stoyle was injured so Pitocchi was moved from midfield to attack - he did great though. We still create loads of huge chances. Are one-on-one with Perin in Juve's goal many times, and we hammer it either straight at him, or slightly past the post every. single. time!

I could accept getting defeated, if we were clearly the inferior side in the games, but in the first game we did a perfect counter-job. And in the return at home, we completely own the game. But they score on a free kick and some random clumpsy shot that got deflected from Icardi who's been **** all season but managed to score in BOTH GAMES AGAINST US.

On the penultimate match of the season we meet Juventus. They are first placed, but sitting just a point ahead of Inter on second place.

We try a new formation.

0312a09a8d9f4c9f51d5e3498576468d.png

I really love the Enganche role. The name itself. Such an elegant role. Static, unwavering, creating. The center piece for the entire team to focus on. I want Simoncini there.

The rest of the team works well too in this setup. Pitocchi and Stoyle are hard working inside forwards, Capuani is a fairly complete forward. Tonon and Mathieu gives style and grit to our midfield. I like it.

c57b30bd63882018fd7888f7c86ae8b7.png

So did Capuani.

95492e9e2811ef5155130dc580db3a2e.png

We actually did really well. Ignore the 37 shots they took. Yes, yes ignore them. They took 23 long shots, and out of the 37 shots they had fewer ccc's than us and only joined the game around the 60th minute mark. We had them in our pocket for a long time tbh.

But we deserved to lose the lead of course.

In the next against Napoli we did this.

838e49012053357b97fc8a27f67e2fff.jpg

c4eab7d6317a069725143e6d75179660.png

I know Simoncini, my Enganche, only got 6.5 but oh man. He was instrumental. He had a couple of enormous misses that dragged his score down but other than that, he was doing great. I tried to change his role briefly to AP(A) and then we had no big chances created for 15 minutes until I changed him back and immediately we started creating again. Love it. Our all around team performance was brilliant too.

Sucks that this was the last game of the season.

But I can't wait for the new one now, so something positive!

We did sort of okay.

We were absolutely horrible at keeping any decent streak going, but ended with some positive matches.

Missing the cup final was a blow, however. AC Milan tipped Juventus in the final.

b6be44111bb3899bbdcc6f69dbc42670.jpg

We did really well in regards to possesion. Not that it matters much, we didn't set out to do so in any specific way. It just happened. So. Yeah

abf81af820b814e22200cc2df29a8ed3.jpg

Salary wise we overperformed. That's nice.

And now the squad.

fea90eee608e6dbd81e1e433d778aa26.png

Mansueto and Simoncini pipped Stoyle, but I fell even more in love with Stoyle in this season.

Virginia did amazingly well for us. He kept us in many games and a big reason we didn't allow more goals than we did.

Our 4 starters in defence were terrific. Brinkmann was stable, McMillan was up and down but really good when on top of his game.
Aside of Bianchetti deflecting a ball into our own goal every 2-3 games continuously throughout the season but he and Mansueto were still a great pair.

In midfield Mathieu is suffering from the classic case of defensive mids never getting that high ratings. He was good I'd say though. Tonon OA had a really decent season and surprised me in his ability to take the step up.
Simoncini was main man in midfield though. Doing it all, whether he was in a deep lying or attacking position.

Our attackers were even more inconsistent. Very frustratingly so. On the right day Pitocchi, Stoyle and Capuani would combine like were they the new BBC/MSN. At their worst it was like seeing Heskey and Sanogo in a front duo.

iMario had his one big highlight as a Goalie, but since then he had nothing to brag about.

b266bf4812be54512b1e8a1767fcc02d.jpg

One fun fact:
Our Macedonian midfielder, Jovanovski, who never played for us this season due to registration permitting this,  managed to outsell almost our entire team in shirt sales. Only four players above him.

e245b366d300821393a4bb0541f2073f.png

Disappointing not to find iMario, Romeo Tonon OA, or Pittochi ahead of him but Jovanovski is quite sexy to have on the back of a shirt so I get it even if he has no official number...

2 September, 2025

Summer is over. iMario sayeh Goodebuy to the summer. And a goodebuy to all (as he's left the building).

We have signed Sergio Ramos as coach, however. The bants will be restored at some point.

I start a new job on monday so I expect my activity will go down at some point but seeing FM related activity drop might mean more story-wise activity raising.
And I have an idea for running the story either in first person perspective from Preben himself, or through the eyes of various people - be it fans, reporters, Galdino (the owner) or any one else in Verona. Maybe it'll be a mix of it all.

Here is Ramos though. He already put in a scheme for the players. Yellow cards = €€€ bonus. Red cards = you get to borrow his Ferrari for a month.

Now, onto the squad following the summer!

Looking very good if you ask me. I like it highly and feel we've come out on top.

A lot of sales and some opportunistic picks for us the other way.
One player especially caught my eye and I picked him up for a massive £25.5M fee! But I'd do it again.

I've pondered greatly on what formation to use this season. Without revealing too much up front we tried the 4-2-3-1 that I ended the season with.
It didn't work nearly as prolific the first few games, although we completely trashed Napoli as per tradition.

Recently another system peaked my interest though, and I think that formation suits our players even better.
All I'll say for now is it'll be a 3-5-2 of some sort.
The specific roles and setup will hopefully surprise you!

Goalkeeper

I only signed one keeper this summer despite losing both Virginia and our backup. I am going to promote a youth keeper - atm this guy is Segato but I forgot to screenshot him.

Randy is a solid guy who was relatively cheap and decent in quality. We didn't have much money or time to find the right guy, so hopefully he'll be able to put in a shift.

UDycfTe.png

Central Defenders

Mansueto and Bianchetti are still here, but other than that I'll be moving Mathieu, Brinkman and Sampiri down to this role to accomodate the extra defender and have some rotation available.

Mathieu and Brinkman easily have the abilities to be considered here and Bianchetti needs to watch out for his position.

fO8jP7g.png MZFgRjt.png 5NTC1E5.png

5uJmUTf.png Hosxgii.png vMZDS6j.png

Right Wing

Romeo Tonon OA was going to be benched if we kept Brinkman on the flank but he'll still be getting a challenge worth his salt from new hire Quattrocchi who is a very good - and similar - option on the flank.

vJyj8Ur.png 3aMtlSN.png

Left Wing

We have a new face on our left and I think we're going to love him. Ferdinando is his name - that alone is gold.

jjQXVbc.png 845QUw1.png

Central Midfielders

We have so much quality here. We got 2 of them on free transfers! Massive. I think the midfield we have could reasonably be a top 3 worthy. We're honestly up there.

I think the starters will be KariKari, Simoncini and Moran, but Mariani is very close behind them. Anyone not performing or injured and he's ready to step in. Really good depth behind the main 4 as well.

Ba1noyj.png

Strikers

So, we have Capuani and Stoyle as our main men in attack, with Pitocchi the super sub to disrupt the opponent late in the game.

Sounds very efficient to me.

QzWQmpJ.png Y6NTUkP.png 5Stx8PO.png

Yes, I would prefer more OA talents in the squad, but they're just not there yet. We sold a lot of the scrap to collect some money now and made some good buy back clauses and future sales deals but other than that, there's not happening much on this account. We'll see in a couple of years. For now, being able to keep Romeo Tonon OA close to the first team and regularly starting is all we have.

When Galdino offers you an ice cream, don't eat it

27th October, 2025

I woke up this morning and had to leave the apartment for something very urgent. I so rarely get out since we got first in the league.
The city is always on edge and tense for the next game. Usually I could go out for beers, vodka and whiskey on a standard tuesday or wednesday.. or thursday and get hammered and people would just celebrate it and share a drink with me.
Now, however, they go rabid. Well, they always went rabid truth be told, but usually in a celebratory way.
They get all tense, and ask questions about the next weeks lineup. Who's playing, how will we stop Santos Fernandes or Paulo Dybala, and when I then - extremely rarely - let them in on some tactical secrets I am immediately met by the same stupid **** over and over.

"Ehh Prébi, no no nooo. You ehdoin' it eh all the wrong! You neede to usé a Mezzala and a Trequatista and ehhhhhhh a Half Backeh si! I playéd it on ehFehM. It was the beeest."

I love their passion, but they're so thick headed after 15 beers.

Good thing is, even after turning 62 last month I am still a very popular man in the ladies department, if you know what I mean.

Anyways... I was walking down the street of Verona.. Erh. I lost my drift but there was something about eating ice cream with Galdino.

Gah, I don't remember what happened. I just faintly remember the taste being really bad and the waiter left our table with a smirk.
I believe I saw Galdino whispering something to him before we ordered but I don't know.. Galdino knows everybody in this city.
Why would he drag me down to this part of town though? This is where the ChievoVerona fans keep their shitstained lives going.

In any case the chocolate ice cream smelled a bit off, but I ate it regardless. I probably - definitely - shouldn't have but there was plenty of vodka with it so you can't blame me.
In any case, I've had a bad bit of stomach ache ever since. The doc told me to come by and let him examine my... prostate. I don't know, I've never had that done before due to a bit of stomach ache, but the man can't be wrong.

I can't even start to explain how disappointed I was when I was found out he wasn't a woman. Simone... that's a ladies name... Whatever...

Image result for very nice borat gif

Amazing start to the season! Beating Juve and Lazio away back to back is a hell of a feat, you must have been delighted after that. Here's hoping you keep it up.

That Sampdoria result must be an outlier....

You seem to have found the winning formula: Beat the "Cellar Dwellers" (Relegation Candidates) 9/10 and play .500 against the top teams!

Brief Tactical Update

Seeing as there's been a bit of a hiatus in the thread since I changed job a little over a month ago I've decided to ease into things with a minor update on the tactical system and what I think so far.

We are playing a 352 in a very aggressive version despite a "Standard" mentality.

I utilize a Sweeper Keeper on support in the back for a couple of reasons.

We play a Very Fluid setup with a high defensive line, semi-aggressive pressure combined with slow CBs. This usually means there'll be runners slipping through, and unless our keeper is vigilant they'll be getting huge chances.

Having our GK sweeping up makes the risk a little smaller with an added bonus of having him as a part of our buildup play (whether he really is benefiting in this regard we'll touch on straightaway).

5af23ad17d3e32bc7997be95ede212fd.png

Because, as you can tell from the screenshot below, I am telling Randri to Distribute to my playmaker (who is placed in CM strata) and to do it quickly and take risks.
If you have Neuer, Ter Stegen, Ederson etc. that is a nice idea. Randri, however... 3 Passing. Yikes.
So why the hell am I still doing it???
Well, his pass completion is at 64% which compared to any of the big 5 clubs in Italy, is better than any other starting GKs.
Despite his lack of skill, he is doing quite well. I see him hit my Playmaker with decent regularity. Sometimes my Playmaker drops back, sometimes he stays central, but either case, if Randri hits him, it opens up the pitch for us every time.

Sure, there's going to be some mistakes, but the benefits have outweighed the cons so far.

6e31481c2e2b2917055ffdaeee1bbdca.png

In front of Randri we have this 3-back defence.
Two on Defend, one on Stopper. I see my Stopper push forward and break play a lot.
I did test a Cover role in the center, but was left frustrated due to the frequency of seeing my Cover man being in no mans land, not covering, not defending, and not stopping.
Instead my wide CBs would stay wide, while my Cover got overrun and we would concede big, big chances.

This setup seems much more cohesive.

4b2430ff5560a06eee5e16efa3d66aff.png

Our midfield is the part I'm the most excited about.

My wide players are Wingers on support, my wide CMs are Central Midfielder on Attack, and my centrepiece is a Deep Lying Playmaker on Defend.
Sounds kinda mad in a 352, doesn't it?
It does wonders, though.

Central midfield is also the place we have the best quality, so seems natural to get the most out of players like Morán and Simoncini while Karikari runs the show behind them.
No major instructions given. Simoncini is asked to dribble less since his dribblin is at meager 10, and Kariakari is asked to close down much less since I don't want him straying from his central position, but that's it.

d5b00195721a9f5fc75216ff8f34384f.png

Leading the pack we have my biggest problem to solve.

My strikers, and their roles.
First off, who to use. We have some interesting options and in this screenshot below I have Pitocchi and Mariani starting - a rare occurrence - and they, along with Morán and Del Sole, destroyed Torino.
Mariani scored 1, with 9.2 rating, Pitocchi scored 2, and assisted 2 with 9.6 rating. (Morán went with the POM still, with his matching 2g, 2a, 9.6)

But Kevin Stoyle and Capuani are both on the bench in this setup. Mental.
And the roles are tricky to pinpoint as well.
I want one guy to pull back and act as a pivot, and the other as a focal point for our attacks, but finding the right balance to not swamp the area my CMas are charging and not getting too far ahead and become redundant has seemed a fine balance so far.
I'm happy with this constellation for the time being though.

I'm back. Yadda yadda.

Here's a handful random SSs to bring you to where I am.

The Roma game was the last game played in the last update.

b083279ce803149afe139ca803960d3a.png

We bought a new keeper. I changed my mind on Randri in goal and picked this guy up for a cheap fee.

ad18b3678808e6e1e10f5ed7672939f7.png

His passing fits our Sweeper Keeper play from the back approach much better and I've been very happy with him so far.

We also got this exciting talent from our intake this season.

9c870f36ea55d0a58c577b4c9c1b0cca.png

We are still in the run-in for the 1st place! I seriously doubt we have the slightest chance of ousting either Inter or Juve - both are terrifying - but no matter the end of this season we have gone miles from our 12th place last season.

I just noticed I haven't shown you my latest addition to the strikeforce!

0de92d7377b513eabac6fdd1de53ec03.jpg

He's loaned out as we had problems with the Non-EU players seeing as we had a hard Brexit in this save. Had to loan him out to be able to provide him with game time.

So far it's been an immense headache figuring out how to get the players I wanted to take up those spots as a player I hadn't registered and were in the u18s for instance still took up at spot for us most of the season which I saw last second of the January transfer window.. So, I'm highly questioning if we can fit in all of our Non-EU players next season but I highly rate Higham so hopefully I'll be able to get him into the squad. He's not been impressive for Empoli though.

solid run in the league. How's the 3-5-2 working for you especially defensively with the wingers.

Great question!

I suppose we can refer to the goals conceded to get a picture of this....

Normal standings:

Conceded:

39030e06a89e436547130ca38d3b7cce.png

That's bad.

Scored:

c6aea2c7f8a670b460bb63072d66b91b.png

We're first!

Looking into the specifics for the 3-5-2:

6dd591e575a6ec100f12d0db712bea9c.png

cc29104a434344c2503e88afee6f6889.png

It's a bit of an all-in approach I guess.

I am slightly considering why exactly, we changed away from the 4-2-3-1f5f6b110286b38f06a7130eeba3e6b3d.png

001543eb37e317a3fbdd50525951b7c3.png

Those are some pretty impressive numbers.

Although it is also a strong factor, that Simoncini who was running the league prior to his injury which iirc happened shortly after the change to the 3-5-2.

5fa2e61b6d9ad7c3ecca4dc00d06486a.jpg

That will definitely have had an impact.
