[Suggestion] Match delay

Recommended Posts

There are periods where teams that are inserted in different competitions at the same time have a hectic calendar and therefore requestions the match delay ( of nationale league games ) should be possible.

With this I mean that in the past there was the option to request a delay of a specific game towards the federation ...

I don't know whether this is inserted in the set up of the current Football Manager, but every league has specific conditions if the matches are piled up between Europa or Champions League and the national league

A specific example from Portuguese football : if a team play two games, there must be a "resting window" of at least 72 hours between both games ( calculated between the end of the first game and the start of the second game ), unless there is an agreement between both teams ...

Another situation where it might be very frustrating to not have the possibility to delay is the international games. If a team loses more than half of the normal starting eleven ( or subs ) there should be the possibility to request a delay ...

Because then the teams will be able to count on their strongest players.

Do you have a evidence for this example? like a website link or Portuguese FA documentation?

Yes of course !

I found documentation from the FPLP ( Portuguese Federation of Professional Football - here is the link ) where it states the following ( in Portuguese - see page 30 paragraph d ) : If a team participates in a UEFA competition and needs to play a game abroad, there is a mandatory rest of 72 horas between the end of the game ( UEFA ) and the start of the next game of the national competitions ( so not only applicable for the league, but also for the League Cup and the national cup ).  In paragraph e it is written that if the team in question plays a game in a UEFA competition at home they have the right to not play the next game in the national competitions the friday and saturday that follows this European game. Another reason that is written in there if the team plays a UEFA Game on Thursday and the next Tuesday plays again for the same competition, the intermediate game of the national competition can be delayed or anticipated ( paragraph f ).

I have also found the regulations from the Portuguese federation ( link here ) in relation to delaying games : the calendar of the championships in Portugal is not adjusted because of the non official international games ( paragraph 1 - article 18 / page 14 ). On the same page ( paragraph 2 - same page ) it says that if a team has 3 or more players in the national teams of the same age category, the club can request a delay of the games in which those players won't be available. Those games would then need to take place within a period of 2 weeks of the original date and for the start of the second round of the league ( unless the Portuguese Football Federation grants a larger time frame )
