PaulHartman71
75th minute: DJ: Alexandre Andre who of course scored Anderlecht's goal tonight has pulled up with a knock here, his replacement of course will be Gael Poisson, who against all the odds given he only played his first Anderlecht game some weeks ago, will end the season on the pitch during the Champions League final. Juanjo Espina is also coming on, he for Amparo in central midfield who is looking a little tired and hasn't offered a great deal tonight.
PaulHartman71
85th minute: DJ: Genclerbirligi on the attack here. Brayan Jiminez running up against some tired legs. He finds Abdul Atmaca on the left, he jostles past Ahmed Fages and whips a cross in.... OH ANDDDD ENRICO VAN LEEUWEN HAS HEADED IN ANOTHER ONE!!!! OHHHHH IT'S A HUGE BLOW RIGHT AT THE DEATH FOR THIERRY. HE CANNOT BELIEVE IT. THEY'VE BEEN DONE ON THE BREAK HERE. GENCLERBIRLIGI 2-1 ANDERLECHT LUC LECLERE AND STEVE BONNEAU BOTH APPEALING TO THE DRONE LINESMAN, THEY THINK THAT'S OFFSIDE BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THE GOAL WILL STAND. PaulHartman71
85th minute: DJ: The game hasn't restarted yet and it looks like....YES.....THAT GOAL DECISION WILL BE REVIEWED BY VAR. We're looking at the footage here and it does possibly seem like Van Leewen wa offside when the ball was played with Leclere and Bonneau playing an offside trap there. What is the drone on VAR tonight thinking about that I wonder? The drone VAR of course introduced just this season due to increasing mistakes in calls from drone referee and linesman, who cited the stress and pressure of always having to be perfect in their 1 percent mistake rate. What does the VAR drone have to say? IT'S AN OFFSIDE TRAP!!!! THE VAR DRONE HAS RULED THAT GOAL WAS OFFSIDE! HUGE RELIEF FOR THIERRY AND THE ANDERLECHT STAFF AND FANS AS THE GOAL IS RULED OUT!!!!! PaulHartman71
88th minute: DJ: Anderlecht on the attack against tired Turkish legs here. Demoralised by that goal overturned as well. It's Johann Caro running down that left flank, he picks a pass to Gael Poisson his fellow substitute, oh and he passes it to Rayco who plays it back to Johann Caro who might have a shot at goal here... HF: You're all clear kid, now let's blow this thing and go home. DJ: IT'S JOHAN CAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! THE FRENCHMAN HAS COME OFF THE BENCH AND HE MIGHT JUST HAVE WON THIS GAME FOR HIS SIDE!!!! HF: Great shot, kid, that was one in a million! DJ: INCREDIBLE SCENES HERE IN THE WELSH CAPITAL!!! THIERRY IS RUNNING DOWN THE PITCH AND KNEE-SLIDING JOSE MOURINHO STYLE!! THE ENTIRE ANDERLECHT BENCH HAS EMPTIED TOWARDS THE FAR CORNER OF THE STADIUM WHERE JOHANN CARO AND CO ARE CELEBRATING THAT GOAL WITH THEIR FANS... The Genclerbirligi players can't believe it. Some of them are on the floor. What a couple of minutes it's been for them and I think they might know that they've blown this one. PaulHartman71
Lot of players to give shout-outs to after my last season here in Belgium. Spyros Thymaras possibly player of the year as he stepped up on the right wing, with Cedric Blanchet on the left and Rayco at CAM both coming into the club in their first seasons and doing really well. Noe Villar very good at central midfield especially in Matthias Bachmeier's long absence following his injury, with Luc Leclere and Mathias Wouters in defence also worthy of big praise. PaulHartman71
Nations Remaining (based on nation coefficient ranking) Turkey Austria Switzerland Croatia Norway Ukraine Romania Serbia Sweden Poland Bulgaria Czech Republic Denmark Iceland Greece Republic of Ireland Slovenia Israel Slovakia Hungary Finland Wales Belarus Northern Ireland Austria are the next league that have been loaded up with Belgium on its way out. RB Salzburg probably the strongest team in Europe out of the remaining nations sides, with Rapid Vienna doing quite well in recent times too. PaulHartman71
We of course won the thing, with Genclerbirligi having a superb run themselves. Basel and Bursaspor interesting names in the last 16. RB Leipzig win the Europa League after dropping down into it, with a pretty strong last 8. Hibs a surprisingly last 16 side, with Trabzonspor also a bit random and Legia Warsaw of Poland doing very well.
PaulHartman71
Besiktas make it 4 titles in 5 years as they reclaim the throne from Bursaspor. Genclerbirligi's exploits in Europe appear to have impacted them in the league as despite being finalists this season they will play no part in the Champions League next season, with Galatasaray and Bursaspor joining Besiktas. Shakhtar dominate domestically in a season that marks the long awaited return of Dynamo Kyiv after a 3 season absence following their shocking relegation. Basel make it 5 in a row with nobody getting anywhere near them. Lugano make it 3 second place finishes in a row as their stock continues to grow. PaulHartman71
No changes to the Hall of Fame proper but just an update on where that leaves Thierry after the latest Champions League win. It's not impossible to get him on there before the end of his career, all of those trophies in Belgium have certainly helped, but dominating like that in Turkey for instance is very unlikely to happen. It could be possible in Switzerland or the Ukraine with Basel and Shakhtar though, possibly too with RB Salzburg in Austria. More on where Thierry is off to next soon... PaulHartman71
The question of where next? Well there wasn't actually much, if any choice. The only available job was Antalyaspor who finished 7th, just out of Europe, in the Turkish Super League. I certainly wanted to go to Turkey next anyway, perhaps at a better side, but they're by no means a poor one and at this point not an option I was going to pass up. Much better facilities than you'd expect for an upper mid side in Turkey too which is great. What was actually quite annoying was that just a week after taking the Antalyaspor job as part of the mass manager merry go round resigning from Anderlecht caused, the Besiktas manager actually ended up with the Vitesse job, so if I'd waited a week later I could've had the Besiktas job It is what it is! Thierry could still get pipped by a bigger Turkish side next summer of course.
PaulHartman71
Some of the better talent at the club on arrival: Recep Kaplan especially looks like a very bright talent, although one of the first things I had in my inbox in my arrival was him moaning about wanting to move to join a bigger club So he may well be out the door sooner rather than later. With a £10M budget, if I can get good money for him he may well allow us to improve more of the squad than I would have otherwise been able to do, although given he's Turkish and very talented, he would be a loss. PaulHartman71
The board's expectations for the season are a Top Half finish and a Turkish Cup quarter final. I'm assuming top half they mean 7th/8th and no pressure to qualify for Europe, obviously hopefully we can, but good to know expectations aren't super super high in-case it does go bad. They came 7th last season so we basically just have to match that which hopefully shouldn't be too challenging.
PaulHartman71
A summer which saw two of the initial best players leave for the Premier League, with Recep Kaplan joining Man City and David Savu off to Chelsea. We also lost starting goalkeeper to Kayserispor and a bunch of other squad players also left. A summer which saw us have a decent transfer kitty following those sales. Yannick Willms was one of the more expensive transfers and was actually one I had no part in. They had him on loan last season and must have had an obligation or option to buy as he joined as the window opened. I must admit for how much we paid for him I hope he has a better return than the 1 goal and 1 assist in the 21 league starts he had Surely must have been an obligation rather than an option to buy if they still went for him after that, or maybe that's the reason the old boss got sacked! Emre Ekiki, signed for nothing on a bosman from RB Salzburg, was another guy I played no part in signing either. Looks a smart pick-up on a free transfer to be fair. One player I certainly did have a role in signing was central attacking midfielder James Roberts-Burton. We signed the young talent from Championship side Cardiff and the Welshman looks very promising, not cheap for a club of our stature at £14.75M, in-fact he is now the club's record purchase, with the outgoing Kaplan the record departure. Ufuk Tuncer was signed to be our new first choice keeper. At £10M he wasn't cheap either, but Turkish players come with a bit of a premium and I think for his age he will be worth that over the years. Liam Watson is a talented young centre back who joins from another Championship side in Sunderland for just over £7M. Michel Bomassi is a talented Belgian central midfielder who was transfer listed at Celtic and available for around £5M. At that price it was a no brainer, I'm also interested to see how a defensive midfielder works with the gets forward whenever possible trait All of the other players signed were Turkish players signed to be squad/back-up players. I was a bit concerned as the vast majority of our back-up players were foreign, with a lot of our first team players foreign too, which considering we can only name 12 non Turkish players in a 21 match-day squad for the league was a bit concerning! I don't expect any of them to see any serious minutes, but they'll be important as back-up and substitute options.
PaulHartman71
Mid-Season Update Turkish Cup So far, so good in the Turkish Cup as we book a place in the 6th round for the new year. Super League A mixed start to the season as we smash Trabzonspor on the opening day then get a huge win over champions and the strongest side in the league Besiktas. We then lost to Boluspor and Bursaspor before drawing with Balikesirspor. We sneaked a draw against Kasimpasa, before back to back wins against Akhisarspor and Eskisehirspor. We then managed to draw our next game before beating Manisaspor in a difficult game. A great run as we got 3 wins without conceding in consecutive games. We end the 2070 decade in pretty decent form, with 1 win, 2 draws and a loss in what was a very difficult run of games against top sides. No split of course in the Turkish set-up. A pretty mad half-way point as really anyone from 1st to 8th could feasibly still win the title!
PaulHartman71
January Window Outs None of my preferred starting players left the club. The biggest transfer saw second choice Turkish left back Firat Ayyildiz leave for Galatasaray, I'm guessing they're doing some Turkish back-up player buying of their own as I really don't see him as good enough to start for them as he's not good enough to start for us. He was young at 23 so could have developed a bit more but I didn't plan to do much with him over the guy starting ahead of him so I was happy to let him go. Guy Mbock and Cho Jae-Hyung were both let go, both ageing non-Turkish back-up players, both decent in their own right, but with the 12 foreigners in a 21 match-day squad rule, when most of your starting 11 is foreign it's kind of worthless having foreign players as back-up players to foreign players. So they weren't playing and we got pretty decent money for both players so see ya later. Cem Gunes was a 4th choice CB who again, wasn't really playing, guessing Kayserispor wanted to fill a squad place with a Turkish lad and he wanted to go so he was allowed to leave too. In I had to fill the spaces in the squad that were left by the two departing Turkish back-up players, so Erderm Sert joins as our new back-up left back and Ali Ugurdil joins as new 4th choice CB. Neither really worth showing as I don't really see either getting meaningful minutes. One guy who will get meaningful minutes and I was able to sign in part thanks to raising some funds was 22 year old right winger, Andrew Dutton-Liversidge, who joins from Championship side Bristol City. Our UK scout has really been pulling it out of the bag and he's another top quality young signing from the Championship for a really good value price. As we look to try and make it into Europe I'm hoping he can be a real difference maker for us going forward at the business end of the season. PaulHartman71
End of Season Update Turkish Cup We crashed out in the Turkish Cup Quarter Final after taking a bit of a pasting from Galatasaray. Super League Not the best start to the new year, with just 1 win in 5, but we did make sure we got a home and away double over champions Besiktas which was nice. Our form improved a bit with 3 wins from our next 5, including an incredible 5-3 win over Eskisehirspor, where Okan Goktas got all 5 goals in an unbelievable performance. 3 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses to end the season, including a lovely win over Genclerbirligi and another pasting from Galatasaray. We couldn't quite sneak Europa League in the end, but the eagle eyed among you may spot that Thierry will be in the Europa next season... Okan Goktas the clear stand-out up-front. An unbelievable player. 28 goals and 5 assists in 38 games, 26 in 31 in the league which gave him the Top Scorer award by a mile.

PaulHartman71
A heavyweight final clash between Porto and RB Leipzig resulted in Porto winning their 2nd CL in 5 years after a feisty all Portuguese affair in the Semi with Sporting Lisbon that ended on penalties. A fantastic run from the Besiktas manager before they lost big time to RB Leipzig, whilst RB Salzburg come very close to knocking out Man City to get into the Last 8. A good year for Belgium as Anderlecht put behind the disappointment of going out at the CL Group Stage to Porto and Vitesse by making a Europa League Quarter Final, alongside 2 other Belgian sides. All went out, but a decent run nonetheless.
PaulHartman71
A very tight finish saw St. Gallen win their first title in 6 years after Basel's dominance in the last few years. A great result for them. Shakhtar make it 3 in a row with nobody anywhere near them again. The Austrian leagues seem interest. They have a similar type of split to Belgium except they have a relegation one too, so LASK, who were 7th pre-split ended up going down This is incidentally RB Salzburg's 14th win in a row, with a 10th straight 2nd for Rapid Vienna. PaulHartman71
I had this job offer come in at the end of the season and well, I couldn't turn it down really. The temptation of being noble and sticking to one club and doing it all with them the "right way" is of course very tempting and I did that with St. Mirren when Rangers were interested - and that's not a decision I regret in hindsight, but I think at this point I can't really turn down a club like Besiktas. To put things into perspective they hired a guy in the summer who won them the Turkish Super Cup, he won them the Turkish Cup proper, he got them to a Champions League Semi Final, but because they slipped up in the league and only 5th they sacked him. That is ruthless. That is ambition. And that is why I could not turn them down. A club like that means business and whilst it could be a risk as with Antalyaspor if I build them up I'd be untouchable with a season like Matey boy just had, the opportunity to jump ship to a club already at such a ridiculously high level is too hard to ignore. 3 of the last 5 Turkish Super Leagues have gone to them and they want more and they want it now. They've said they've hired me to win the league and I truly believe that if we don't then I'm gone next summer too much like our mate Mr Capin. To be fair our Mate did have a bit of a mare in the league, ending up 11 points behind real surprise winner Trabzonspor (who finished below even Antalyaspor in the previous season) and only managing to get Europa League football next season. It could well be that his excellent run in the Champions League harmed them in the league and it might be that I have to avoid resting players in the latter stages of the CL as I often have done at St Mirren or Anderlecht, as poor performances in the league won't be tolerated. I did like what I had going at Antalyaspor, especially with the guy up-front banging them in and the British core of young Championship players with high potential, but I couldn't say no to Besiktas. Nobby_McDonald
Very well done with Anderlecht Paul. Two seasons quicker than my prediction of ten. That Austrian split system is nuts.
PaulHartman71
Safe to say Besiktas have some pretty talented players, which of course you would expect from a side who made the CL Semi Finals.

PaulHartman71
Summer Transfers Nothing too exciting, with wantaway back-up striker Huseyin Gundogdu leaving for Napoli in our only notable deal. Alican joins from Academica in Portugal with the intention of being first choice keeper. Good stats and he's Turkish which is great for squad rules. Some may recognize Omar Saidi from being a rotation/back-up player for me at Anderlecht. We needed a new central midfielder and he was on the market at a good price so I have picked him up and look forward to working with him again. Cem Senol joins on a free transfer after being available following a spell at Arouca in Portugal. Don't expect big things from this guy but he was signed as a useful cheap back-up Turkish option. PaulHartman71
Mid-Season Update Turkish Cup So far, so good in the cup as we beat 2nd tier opposition to make it to the Round of 16. Super League A cracking start in the league as we fire out of the gates to record 5 wins from 5 in my first 5 games. We were somewhat fortunate to win against Fenerbache and Boluspor, but we pulled the 3 points out of the bag in both matches. We won 4 from our next 5, with just Galatasaray taking some points off us as we could not score against them. We were lucky to beat Altinordu who we struggled to score against too, but we got that win through a penalty in the end. Ali Kaya got a lovely hat-trick against Konyaspor. We drew with Basaksehir in a tricky game, before an incredible streak to end the first year of the 2080 decade, as we won 6 straight matches, starting with Genclerbirligi, without even conceding a single goal. Incredible stuff so far as half-way through the season we're top by 11 points and unbeaten, having conceded just 6 times. You really could not ask for much more in your first season at a club. The board gave me a 1 y ear deal to start with and by November already slapped another 2 on, happy days. Europa League A plucky West Ham side shut up shop and completely prevented us from playing our normal game in London, meaning we had to settle for a disappointing draw. A comfortable 3-1 home victory against FC Midtyjlland thankfully put us in a better position going into the two games with Inter Milan. Inter perhaps not the side they once were 60/70 years ago. Italian football no longer down the drain as much as it was a few decades prior when they were like 20th in the overall coefficient list, but these two displays not really doing much to prove any side other than Roma are worth worrying about. West Ham again had a blinder against us and very nearly held us to another draw, but thankfully our strong defence kept them out. Two goals from Martin Maidana meant we beat FC Midtjylland in a game where we had already gone through anyway. Top of the group with no real worries, although West Ham did look good against us. Aside from a home win against FC Midtyjlland they didn't look good in any of the other games though, as they lost home and away to Inter and even lost in Denmark too. Bayer Leverkusen in the first round, which won't be a hugely easy task. Some decent teams knocking about in there like Zenit, Roma, Chelsea, Portimonense, Lyon and Rangers.
PaulHartman71
January Window Out Just one departure in January as 2nd choice left back leaves for Lokomotiv Moscow for pretty good money. He was quite good and if we didn't have the first choice I'd be happy enough even having him as 1st choice, but as a non-Turkish player it's kind of pointless having a foreign back-up and he wanted to leave as he wasn't playing. Best move for everyone.
PaulHartman71
Not the easiest of ties against Bayer Leverkusen, but we sneak past them 2-1 on aggregate in the end. Another German side await us in the Round of 16, as we take on FC Koln.
PaulHartman71
Koln gave us a couple of good matches at home and away but we just about secured 1-0 victories in both to secure passage to the Quarter Final. It's an all-Turkish affair as we face 5th place Bursaspor.
PaulHartman71
Another very close couple of legs but we go through to the Semi Final 3-2 on aggregate, with Chelsea awaiting in the Semi Final stage.
PaulHartman71
3-1 on aggregate perhaps flatters us, but we don't care as we go forward to the final. It's a return to Scotland as we face Oud-Huverlee Leuven of Belgium at Hampden Park.
PaulHartman71
End of Season Update Turkish Cup A disappointing end to our cup run, as we go out 2-1 on aggregate to Fenerbache in the Quarter Final. Turkish Super League Our unbeaten run was over with our first game in 2081, as we lost 3-1 to Fenerbache, before losing again just a week or so later after we'd bounced back against Boluspor through a Birgui hat-trick. We won 4 of our next 5 after that, with a loss away to Galatasaray. Genclerbirligi got one over me with a 4-1 win which was quite hard to take. A disappointing loss to Osmanlispor before a decent end to the season, with the final game against my old side resulting in a draw to cap off the season. Not the best second half of the season but it didn't matter as we wind up winning the league by 8 points anyway. Pretty good stuff overall, nice for Antalyaspor to get into Europa. Speaking of which... Europa League A pretty gutting final, as we lose out to Oud-Huverlee Lueven on penalties in Thierry's return to Scotland. A bit boring to pick your centre backs out as the best players but they were both very good this year, especially in the first half of the league season. We struggled a bit more in the second half of the season, but we did have to play with a 2nd choice keeper due to Alican picking up a bad injury. PaulHartman71
Atletico Madrid win their 9th Champions League, with Vitesse reaching their first final for just over 15 years. Liverpool a surprise name in the knockout stages, having not made that stage of the tournament for just under 50 years after a lot of financial woes. Credit to Oud-Huverlee who were good value for their win and beat a lot of strong sides on the way. A good day for Belgian football.
PaulHartman71
3 different winners in a row for Switzerland, which could be coming somewhat competitive. Lugano win this time, which is actually their first for 132 years! Basel finish 2nd to remain in CL, whilst last year's winners St. Gallen must settle for Europa. A party in Karpaty as they win their first ever top tier league trophy in the Ukraine, disrupting the top of the table there. A bit of a shock as Desna, who just 15-20 years ago were winning titles and challenging Shakhtar have now got relegated. Another win for RB Salzburg in Austria, with Rapid Vienna taking the final Cl spot after the playoff round.
PaulHartman71
Boluspor go out at the first hurdle in the Europa League to Swiss side Lugano. Trabzonspor who shocked everyone by winning the title last season bowed out at the Champions League group stage, finishing bottom of a group of Anderlecht, St. Mirren and Bayern Munich, not the easiest of groups to be fair. Genclerbirligi came bottom of their group with Barcelona, Celtic and Vitesse. Galatasaray at least made the knockout stages before going out to Anderlecht. Whilst we of course knocked Bursaspor out in the Quarter Final of the Europa League, before losing in the final. 2 years after leaving Belgium and their coefficient has never been stronger, they could even overtake Turkey next season which would be a bit annoying. PaulHartman71
Leandro Acuna, effectively our 3rd choice striker leaves for his home nation of Argentina, in a £14.25M deal with Belgrano. We've already got a strong squad and were maxed out on foreign players so the best thing to do was to buy some good talented Turkish players to either replace lesser ones or challenge for a place in the squad with the money we did have. Topcu joins from Kayserispor for just under £20M and will be a rotation option at left wing. Bayar also joins from Kayerispor and he will be a rotation option on the right wing. I think we actually broke the Besiktas transfer record to sign Hayri Tomak, who looks a real talent, he will be a central midfield player who may well force his way into the side from day 1 and looks like he could become a real star for us.
