End of Season Update

Dutch Cup

It took penalties to get past Feyenoord in the Semi, but we make it 4 cup wins in a row!

Eredivisie

A less than perfect start to the new year as we drew in Graafschaf and then pick up an awful loss in Heerenveen.

Our next run of games pretty much saw the title over, as we lost in Feyenoord and dropped points in PSV.

We won our last 5 games of the season, but was it enough to pull back Feyenoord and win the title...

It wasn't.

Annoying to still be in Feyenoord's shadow domestically, but hopefully next year we can push on and finally dethrone them as we have come close this season.

Champions League

4-2 on aggregate as we knock out my old side Portimonense to get to the Quarter Final.

Real Madrid haven't made a Semi Final for 5 years so I thought we could maybe do something, but we ended up getting utterly outclassed. They did end up reaching the final this time around.

A bit of a struggle to single out anyone was particularly amazing this season, perhaps Richard Hermans who was very good when he was fit, which wasn't all of the time.

A big win for the AI as they complete a 5th country with Sporting Lisbon beating Real in the final. They've now pegged me back 7-5, so I need to get Holland and my 8th done before they win it with someone else :D

Feyenoord notable in the Semi this time.

Genclerbirligi come ever so close to winning a title, but Fenerbache just about manage to win their first in 6 years.

I play with normal FM. I get through some seasons quite quickly as I will often "holiday" a lot of the games with my assistant dealing with them with my squad selections and tactics, although I usually play the Champions League games or "big" league or important cup matches on Key Highlights.

I didn't actually notice Marseille had won it before, at least when I stuck them in that time :D Not sure how I've missed that as when I first started making note of Nations Remaining I did keep a running tally of the clubs from each country that had won it. That will be fixed in future updates, cheers for pointing that out!

At the moment I still plan to carry on after FM20 comes out. I don't know how long the save will go on for or whether I ever will complete all the nations, but I haven't got bored of it yet and I think managing in a different country each time will keep the save fresh for me still. I'll keep each season as it goes as I play to enjoy it and if I stop enjoying it then I'll just stop, but certainly for now I've got no plans to stop.

I think after I complete Vitesse (guessing/hoping at some point within the next 5 seasons) that I will retire the in-game manager Paul Hart, who is now 70 - and start fresh with a new manager, which will be centred around a player that I've managed during the save.

I've not really decided who that player will be though (most likely someone from Vitesse, Portimonense or Zenit I would imagine) and may even open it up for people to vote on at some point.

It may be easier to win the UCL than pip Feyenoord. What happened to Celtic though?

Could well be. Feyenoord a very strong side unfortunately :D  :(

Not sure what happened to Celtic. They appointed Jadon Sancho as their manager around 8 years ago and it all seemed to go down hill from there, haven't won the title since (although he's obv been sacked long ago)

Oh also anybody remember those stadiums plans that got shelved a few years back?

Van Hese and Ozturk found themselves on the fringes of the first-team this season, with both getting around 5 starts in all competitions. They were both relatively frustrated by their roles as back-ups, but it was worth having them their for HG at club purposes in Europe. Van Hese may have to be loaned out next season again as he was very unhappy at not getting a look in at left wing, but there's players ahead of him unfortunately.

Van Der Schot had a solid season in the 2nd tier again this year with NAC Breda. He's kicked on a bit and I'm hoping next season we can find him an Eredivisie side to play at.

Olvira absolutely smashed it in the 2nd tier with Go Ahead, as he wound up with 19 goals and 1 assist in 32 starts. Again, hopefully we can find him an Eredivisie side next season to go on loan to.

Pastoor made up for lost ground after the big injury last season, as he started 26 games in the 2nd tier with SC Cambuur. Not great stats though with 5 assists and 1 goal.

Kwasie looks a real talent at 16. He played a lot for our B Team in the very lower leagues and got 7 goals and 6 assists in 22 games.

Summer Transfers

Some decent loans for the younger lads

9d326e5949efbe03311bcd7b73c43797.png

A fairly exciting summer by all accounts.

Yuri Jacobs the biggest move in terms of cold hard cash. He was a good defender and certainly not someone I particularly planned to sell, but a few clubs came in very hard for him and unsettled him so it seemed like a decent time to sell. Wolfsburg were the highest bigger and off he went to my old side.

Alexandru Jimenez was getting closer to 30 and with 12 months left on his contract this was a pivotal moment for his career, either renew and never really make any money on him, or sell now and reinvest. A host of clubs were interested in him, but he left for the PL and indeed Europa League money of the South Coast side Bournemouth for £30M, which was a more than fair price.

Roy Robertson was a very similar story, although he was actually refusing to renew due to lack of playing time. It was an ideal scenario to sell him really as the goals had dried up for him and probably could have both done with a fresh start. Chelsea beat a few clubs to sign him and they got the Scotsman for £25.5M.

Donadell had come in with the possibility of one day being first choice striker, but he'd never really set the world on fire despite having good stats (in terms of attributes) and looking like he could still crack on and be a top level player. A host of random middling European sides were interested, with Lokomotiv offering him the best package.

We also sold a back-up right back to Man United for a decent price - and let a couple of youngsters go. Sorencio Grootfam left for Ajax for £2.3M and a few sell on clauses, with Marc van Dijk joining Fortuna Sittard. Tom Tol, a back-up CAM who had filled the benches for HG purposes in the last few years also departed for Heracles.

We went for quality over quantity in terms of bringing players in this summer.

The big big money went on securing two very talented young German defenders from Stuttgart and Nurnberg, with neither club in the Champions League we were able to negotiate reasonably decent deals, both records for Vitesse. These two defenders could well be the difference between us finishing 2nd and winning the title.

e4572d22d187847b3adc385697b5754b.png

I didn't really need another left winger or a rotation option this good, but he was available for £28M from a middling Nimes side which I found too good a deal to pass up on.

e9aca62a0f799a158ce9977e0a12a210.png

This again, I didn't really need another attacking midfielder per se, but Capcha was available at a bargain bin price of £5.5M which was crazy money to pass up on even if he was 24 and probably won't improve a massive amount.

Mid-Season Update

Super Cup

5aa268473bfb476a858591dcab5fa6d4.png

A hard fought opening game of the season, which resulted in a penalty win for us. A good omen for the season perhaps.

Dutch Cup

ccdb51e09ba3c3075ef7689226cb3291.png

So far, so good in the German Cup, with some smashing victories along the way.

Eredivisie

f5b256669d6485d184f72157e3e15998.png

A strong start to the season, with 4 wins from our first 5, including a huge 1-0 victory at home to title rivals Feyenoord.

37c497f2a49b7d0f9777103a8c549f0c.png

An unfortunate away loss to AZ halted our excellent form, but we recovered to win our next one, then sort of stalled again with two draws before smashing Sparta.

049cf410cb187d4ab004d2051e60eb0b.png

We then went on a good run and got 5 wins from 5 against lesser opposition.

d513b9537d79547948a42aa4d4b0f7e2.png

Another two wins, before two draws to end the calendar year.

65f69f561c825506b0e080d73da078e1.png

Top of the league at Christmas which is exactly where we want to be. FC Utrecht putting in a hell of a campaign to be 2nd and ahead of Feyenoord too.

cc5a7ba5d456c0889759fd2d48af718c.png

Sporting Lisbon of course the reigning champions, but other than them it's a fairly kind group. We navigated through it quite well and even managed to top the group which was an added bonus given Sporting's obvious quality.

Man City await us in the 1st Knockout Round, which isn't a great draw considering we were top seeds, but we will give it our best shot.

Main departure sees long-time serving right winger Sergi leave for Swansea in the Premier League. He's almost 30 now and was unhappy at lack of playing time. He served his purpose for us and did well for 5-6 years, so we wish him all the best in the future. A few loans were sorted too.

We replaced our 2nd choice right winger with a Peruvian lad from Argentina who looks great value for the price we paid.

The only order of business in the January window was to replace Pablo Cobo and we did just that, delving into the Scottish market and picking up Roy Robertson from Ross County. What a player he looks like!

How can someone as good as that only have two Scottish caps by age 26? Are Scotland now as good as Brazil in the game? Haha

I've not paid much attention to international football in the last 5-10 seasons, but erm, it appears that they are a bit better than Brazil... :D

(It's the 2054 World Cup, so the one two years ago, it says 2058 as that's the upcoming one.

They're still only ranked 16th in the world, but should be up there in the Euros this summer.

Their records aren't anything amazing before this year, but for Scotland to even be qualifying for these tournaments is an achievement on real life so fair to say they are a pretty good side now:

End of Season Update

Dutch Cup

7944247f342048ceebaebef3846eca45.png

Some absolutely crazy scorelines on our way to the final, including a mental 6-3 at Feyenoord and then an unbelievable decimation of Groningen. It took extra-time to get past PSV in the final, but we did it to make it 5 in a row!

Eredivisie

b0283ae3d73741cf8fcb7149e62c3127.png

An incredible start to the new year which saw us pick up a huge 4-0 win at Feyenoord which put us even more in the driving seat to finally dethrone them. We also picked up good wins against Utrecht and AZ, as well as two draws, including the away return with a decent Utrecht side.

a5f15df15254ca840984e37b8ecf66c5.png

Another draw away this time in VVV gave Feyenoord a glimmer of hope, but we then won 4 on the bounce to put ourselves back in form and on top by some distance.

402ab7c7b0c399ba9189f48b618cd447.png

We extended the winning run to 8 games, with a draw on the last day, but the title was long sewn up by then.

0ccec199c2c135ae58bd41499cbe5b46.png

Champions, at long last. That solitary loss to AZ early in the season was the difference between us doing it unbeaten! Ajax relegated again.

Champions League

d4d524ebfdf8e7054b33c82268e831e0.png

I was pessimistic of our chances after we failed to get an away goal in Manchester, but I had nothing to worry about, as a Van der Ven hat-trick helped us to a stunning 4-0 home victory to smash our way into the Quarter Final.

c7a9ed89c38f8a65b0fc7651777e2031.png

A 4-1 aggregate win saw us past my old side Zenit in the Quarter Final.

8bec48ef8a343168cb40870547d1f239.png

I was somewhat confident after our 0-0 at home with another old side Atletico in the first leg, so I was absolutely gutted when we lost and lost so bad in the second leg. We didn't have a red card or anything, just utterly capitulated after conceding early on. The team had worked very hard throughout the season for the cup and league and to get as far as we did in the Semi Final, so maybe it was just fatigue, but can't let the loss get in the way of what was a brilliant season for us.

f9d87bebfc536c0a78b2b0e9908af74f.png

Benaldjia the stand-out, with 18 goals and 14 assists in 43 games. The two defenders I signed in the summer, Duggan and Dogan really strengthened the defence and helped us both keeping clean sheets and giving other players the opportunity to go forward and attack without fear of us getting done on the break.

Ozturk and Van Hese were both loaned out to FC Groningen who wound up finishing 6th, with European football now on the cards next season. Both have been somewhat unfortunate that the club has risen so much that they're not getting a look in, but both are in a position to be rotation players next year.

Van Der Schot at 19 looks a tidy player who could well end up better than Ozturk. He spent the year on loan at Ajax, more or less starting every game, although he could not prevent them finishing bottom and going down.

Joep Struijk also spent the campaign at Ajax. He did not play as much as Van Der Schot but he did play every now and then, only managing 1 goal all season, which is disappointing compared to his 10 goal Eredivisie haul last season at RKC.

Kevin Pastoor spent the year at VVV as a squad player, his first full campaign in the Eredivisie. He did okay, with 4 goals and 3 assists in 18 games, most of them sub appearances.

The young striker Olvira went on loan to Ado Den Haag, which was also his first campaign in the Eredivisie after doing well in the 2nd tier last season. He ended the season with 5 goals in 23 games, again, mostly as a sub. Not bad for a 19 year old and I hope he can improve on that next year.

Summer Transfers

We continue our friendly partnership with Groningen as they have a winger on either flank from us for the full season. Van der Schot gets a shot at a big side in AZ, whilst there's lots of loans for other prospects too. Ozturk gets to be 4th choice CB again.

The biggest departure was Tom van der Veen. He was a very exciting young Dutch prospect who could play either left wing or striker, but the problem with him was that he sort of dethroned Leguizamonn as starting striker but he wasn't actually thaaat good of a striker. Like he did score a fair few goals but there were some games where he wouldn't do much and in some ways he was more useful as a left winger. Bayern put in a bid of about £45M with £10M in instalments over a few years to get it up to £55M, which I thought was an okay price but not too big to turn down, so I ended up sticking it to £55M with £15M in instalments assuming they'd tell me where to go, but to my surprise they went for it and for that money it was stupid to turn it down when I could reinvest the money in a specialist striker that would score more goals. Not helped me too much in terms of homegrown players in the squad though for CL purposes.

2nd choice left back left for China which was probably the best move for all parties, whilst a few of our youth prospects joined FC Twente.

Joel Derrien the marquee signing and he's the striker's striker that could possibly take us to the next level. Matched his release clause to get him out of Belgium for a pretty decent price in the end. I'm excited about what he can do.

58060be8ffa5968344521021020bf958.png

Wolfgang Grote cost nothing after failing to agree terms on a contract renewal with a RB Leipzig side who weren't using him and their loss is definitely our gain. He had a lot of interest so I was pleased we managed to get him and on a free it's an absolute no brainer.

Asamoah was initially signed as a very good 2nd choice left back who had the potential to be first choice next season or the season after, but due to a bizarre injury that I will show shortly he's actually been hotshot into the first team and for what we paid he's been brilliant so far.

3fd499d62dec852d574615ec4e611410.png

Arslan looks a decent prospect at striker/AML but he was mainly signed just to fill a HG slot in the squad for CL purposes if I'm honest.

Mid-Season Update

Super Cup

4bf01a02dafce8b684cd73a5f2f1893c.png

A nice way to start the season on a positive, with a 3-1 win over Feyenoord to pick up another trophy.

Dutch Cup

No problems so far as we look to make it 6 Dutch Cups in a row

Eredivisie

c2020b116371867be2ba6642f82a199d.png

A smashing start to the season with 4 wins from our first 5, which included some tricky games including Feyenoord away.

a46e515b58b2d1dad1dd381e0b438ebd.png

We drew at Heerenveen before picking up another 4 wins on the bounce, with the most impressive win being a 4-1 thrashing of a good AZ side.

cf3c5d5b707ed8d82868c6992a459889.png

We extended our winning run to 9 games, as we flattened everyone in our path, although we did get a fortunate penalty against FC Twente, which new striker Joel Derrien had no trouble burying into the back of the net.

dc37b4d388936468c1ec069abcd54690.png

It ended up being 12 wins in a row, culminating in another victory at Feyenoord, before we let Willem II get a late equaliser in a festive game, perhaps we had one too many mince pies. We at least won on Christmas Eve 4-2 against Fortuna Sittard.

c8b65140a1e37b2cf5f03dffaa096fc2.png

As you saw before the last time we lost was September last year, so we've gone 15 months in the Eredivisie without a loss which is pretty mad. Title is more or less in the bag which means we can rest for the Champions League knockout stages which always helps.

Champions League

By no means an easy group with RB Leipzig, Portimonense and Arsenal all representing interesting challenges, but we wound up winning the group anyway after a shaky start with 2 draws, including a very fortunate one at home to Portimonense.

End of Season Update

Dutch Cup

4f5272d458b04c0d6a9a834a6a110862.png

The streak... is over. It took penalties to beat a very weakened side (due to a more important match :brock:) but fair play to Heerenveen.

Eredivisie

82ab6d0dd2e1856eb527c745206b6f3c.png

A good start to the new year with Joel Derrien in fine form, our undefeated streak in the league finally came to an end as it was AZ, the side we lost to last, who beat us 1-0 at home.

cd0e0d5e0b03e28a97f080ad743084e4.png

The title was pretty much wrapped up at this point but we continued the season in good form, even when resting players for the Champions League.

A nice way to end the season in fine form.

It wasn't even close in the end. A good year for VVV.

Champions League

Sporting Lisbon a real good side, as they of course won the the thing just a few years back. It was a very difficult couple of games, with the away leg being lost 3-2 and in fairness we were very much out of the game, saved only by two very good penalties scored by Joel Derrien.

Derrien himself was injured for a week so missed the second leg, which I thought for sure meant we'd be eliminated, but his understudy, the young Dutchman Nihat Arslan popped up with a huge goal late on which put us through on away goals - it was one of his first goals of the season, and what a time to get it!

82a97c19913ad6f05b85eb738376e431.png

The quarter final saw us again lose the first leg, this time 2-1 against my old side PSG. The second leg in Paris was brilliant though. A fantastic return to my old home as we put 5 past them, all in the first half as well! Derrien had a brace within 6 minutes and they just completely capitulated there on out and what a performance it was by the boys.

e66d9682d0685dfe053b63e4cebc4b0f.png

Another goal fest followed as we smashed Man City 4-0 in the home leg, all but putting us in the final. I wasn't taking any chances though, so I still effectively through the Dutch Cup final to ensure we had all our players rested before the match, which I've managed to do for every knockout game. We lost 1-0 in Manchester, but we didn't care, as we went through to face City's Manchester rivals in the final.

24fd99575234dd0716b13f4b5f5311b7.png

Our firepower was once again too strong for a Manchester side and we recorded a smashing 4-0 win in Vitessse's first ever Champions League final appearance!

The attacking unit of Benaldjia, Capcha and Derrien were a scary prospect for any defence to face and they were the pivotal part of why we won it this year, although our defence was also very strong, thanks in part to the young German Blake Duggan marshalling at the back.

Besiktas winning the title this season means that there has now been 5 consecutive different winners of the Turkish SL. Besiktas, Gencler, Fener, Kayer and Gala. It really is all to play for every year over there.

VOTE FOR THE NEXT MANAGER

I alluded to it a week ago or so but now I have completed Holland and Paul Hart is in his 70's I will be retiring him off, but fear not, he will be replaced and we will continue on with the rest of the nations. I will complete one more season where I attempt to win the Club World Cup and also nicely tie into it being the 40th in game season, which means I can do a nice 40 year summary post at the end of the season too marking his whole career.

The decision you must make is which ex player of from the save I should take on as the manager in this save now.

The options are:

Gabriel Leguizamon

8a510eed6cc291f4fee2fc22cbbf650e.png

Age: 30, Nationality: Argentine/Brazilian, International: 8 caps/ 2 goals for Argentina, Vitesse record:  140 goals in 248 games

He may have left us in February for China, but Gabriel will still collect his Champions League medal after taking part in the first half of our campaign. Leguizamon 7 seasons with me at Vitesse, spending the vast majority of the time as first choice striker.

Nahuel Cordoba

3445466eb032db533345721431758568.png

Age: 37, Nationality: Argentine, International: 12 caps / 1 goal for Argentina, Portimonense record: 140 goals in 261 games

The Portimonense legend was instrumental in the rise of the Portuguese club to Primeira and Champions League success. He spent 9 years at Portimonense, with 5 of those under my leadership.

Thierry

76931d980a790d59ced31bfda457c982.png

Age: 44, Nationality: Russian/Brazilian, International: 45 caps for Russia, Zenit record: 290 appearances in all competitions.

Thierry was an institution at Zenit and was a raging success story of my tactic to poach South Americans on the cheap. Thierry was probably the best goalkeeper I ever had, which made it all the more surprising that he never got called up for his native Brazil. He adapted to Russian life so well that he took Russian citizenship, helping Russia to a World Cup final and a Confederations Cup win along the way.

Dennis Gruttner

67024fca6f2b20fb29f95700495970e2.png

Age: 43, Nationality: German, International: 118 caps / 27 goals for Germany, Wolfsburg record: 68 goals in 102 games

The tenacious German winger was essential in securing the Champions League for my Wolfsburg team. He was only with me for two seasons, but he proved the missing ingredient in our bid for European success. Gruttner left just one season after I did, moving to Manchester United for a whopping £106M. He won two consecutive Champions League trophies with Wolfsburg, but never matched that success at Old Trafford.

If nobody votes or there is a tie then I will make an executive decision :brock:

First of all, congrats for an amazing career once again. Very inspiring stuff. I haven't read every post very carefully because I was late to the party this year, but I think you overachieved quite a few times so far. Especially your Vitesse most important players haven't been "world beaters" in the sense that they didn't have those crazy Attributes you see on Man.City or Man.Utd newgens. It must be very rewarding.

Will the next manager choice influence your style of managing? For example the Brazilian coach will do something crazy ala Thiago Motta? Will the German guy play a gegenpressing system ala Klopp? If yes, then I choose the Brazilian keeper, he has quite the backstory along with the potential crazy systems.

If the manager is just a choice for narrative, then Nahuel deserves it as your most loyal protagonist.

I'll vote for Thierry as well - partly because of most appearances, partly because it's a great story he became Russian and won a World Cup - but also because the way I read your post, I think he's THE one.

Thanks.

Yeah the Champions League is actually quite open these days and it's longer a case of only 4/5 teams with a serious chance of winning it, so it's hard to work out when you get to the point where you can Liverpool style attack teams and batter them home and away. We certainly seemed to be around that level this time, but also got quite lucky against Sporting Lisbon and a few games in the Group Stage so it's hard to say how good we were. It definitely helps being able to rest entire first 11 in the weekend in the league though.

I vote Thierry as well.

Congrats on finally doing it with Vitesse. I assume you play a 4-2-3-1 with out and out wingers?

Yes I typically set up with

GK

DR - DC - DC - DL

MC - MC

AMR - CAM - AML

ST

I'm sometimes more cautious especially away from home in the first few seasons of a club when we're still not that great, but have more or less kept with this formation the whole time so far.

I usually go for a keep possession tactic with nothing too exciting in the way of player roles, although I will mix them up depending on the players that I have, especially when I first take over. If my best winger is more suited to inside forward or my defender is more suited to a cover type role etc I will try to accommodate that until a few years down the line when I get players that suit the needs of the team more.

I hadn't thought too much about mixing up the tactics/style as the next manager but that may be something I look into as I'm sure at some point I will get bored of playing the same formation :D

With the over-achieving I think the game helps somewhat with that. It seems to improve the quality of the overall players in the nation when you have certain leagues loaded. I certainly noticed this with Russia which helped me storm to the Champions League quicker and where I seemed to take over Zenit just as this started to happen it allowed me to get a real monopoly on the top Russian players, which helped us big time due to the Russian heavy squad regulations.

I think we're seeing in Turkey what can happen when the level of talent increases in a league with heavy HG regulations but no human player to monopolise the talent, as a different side in Turkey seems to win every year which I'm guessing is due to the level of Turkish player rising on average so it's hard for any one team to properly take over.

The Portuguese league and the Dutch league both improved big time and we had top sides doing damage in Europe before I'd even started doing much damage myself, although me joining the party obviously helped speed the process of Portugal/Holland improving a lot. In Russia the other teams never really seemed to catch up in Europe so much.

Scotland too since I've loaded them seem to have gone from strength to strength, with lots of good Scottish players helping them win the World Cup and Rangers just now reached the Europa League final.

Although this doesn't always seem to be the case as look at Ukraine. I've had the Ukrainian league loaded for 20 seasons and it's arguably never been in a worse shape, slumped down in 21st overall next to Sweden and Ireland in the league coefficients and I can't remember the last time any of their teams reached the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Summer Transfers

The Champions League win attracted some attention to our players. Marcelo Garcia the only one I was sad to lose, but a great price from City and we sell him for a big profit whilst still in his prime. Bocconi was getting older and playing less, so I was surprised to see Atletico offering so much. He was also sold for a nice profit. John Jackson hadn't played much as back-up AML, so he went to Dortmund in the last year of his contract, with Van Hese the Academy player good enough to be 2nd choice in my final season.

9bc9a7be11c43bdfd8f84e46efb566db.png

Max Harris joins from Rangers to replace Garcia. He's a brilliant central midfielder and was worth signing even though he wanted massive wages.

We signed two highly rated Dutch young-ish players to fill 2nd choice roles in our squad at CM and DR

Mid Season Update

Euro Super Cup

896aa6b395886d558bf4059518b65076.png

Quite fitting for it to go back right where it started for Paul Hart with a game against Arsenal. Lucas Torreira's swapped the #10 role for the manager role and his side aren't bad, they took us to the wire, but we won following extra-time.

Dutch Super Cup

71d12cfb3ce68a48c3793a24cfb6718a.png

Another Super Cup win as we beat Heerenveen who of course beat our 2nd string in the cup final last season.

World Club Cup

7147feafcf4f120859985356c262bc81.png

We faced the Saudi Arabian champions and then Santos in the final. A couple of 2-0 wins gave me my first ever win in this competition - and our third of the season. I hadn't really thought about winning all 6 of the competitions we're in this season, but it would be pretty cool I guess!

Eredivisie

f49aacead7d08e3bffdb6b7e48ff33f1.png

A good start to the domestic year saw us win 5 from 5 without conceding a single goal, with our new Serbian keeper setting in well in-front of an already strong defence.

4588a2b10ce496196616f78e40f573a2.png

Pec Zwolle were the surprise side who took our first points off us, but we continued our winning ways including 3 away wins on the spin.

57c64702d4ebee576d4d99a440107df8.png

We continued to beat teams without conceding as well, until AZ pulled off their yearly victory over us. You have to go back like 3 years since any side beat us in the Eredivisie apart from them, but fair play to them for pulling it out of the bag every time :D

32a643ce090ef894a0e7820002c04040.png

The league more or less done I'd say barring a spectacular capitulation.

Champions League

75e25b53c22277da6e1760740829dace.png

Not the easiest group on paper but we went through without any trouble, not even conceding a single goal in the process.

0eed8e3695c08c8e324ae7517cd71cc7.png

Roma having an absolute shocker (although were quite decent against us). Rangers showing Scottish football is to be taken seriously and may well be worth a punt as the next manager's first nation.

End of Season Update

Dutch Cup

1dc468e5124c1d226b622c4bafa23a7b.png

Heerenveen pull off another upset as they dump us out in the Semi Finals on penalties, fair play to them!

Champions Cup

bd68da9c92e5de71c3d9d6832463af4b.png

It would've been nice to retain the Champions League for the first and possibly only time, but it wasn't to be, as we lost 2-0 to City on aggregate. Garcia, who we sold to them in the summer bossed it, so signing him clearly took them to the next level.

Eredivisie

e42895d908842fb185eb849052ddfc67.png

A good start to the new year, although we did pick up a loss to our old enemy Feyenoord.

d4fe6021298b5f4ca9a0adb3eb73006a.png

I did rest players for the mid week Champions League game against City (which we lost anyway lol) but yeah, 4-0 against VVV ffs. That contributed to 25 percent of the goals we conceded in the league all season :D

649e40378a4ee5041d4b70e155fbfe4e.png

Another decent run with Derrien stat peddling with some penalties.

ea4c199cb8ddec592159ff838270c888.png

I was really pleased to win my last ever game in charge of Vitesse and as a manager as Paul Hart, with it being against Feyenoord it made it all the more sweeter.

70708ef19bf94a12fbb84dfce27182b3.png

14 points clear in the end. Happy days.

I have to give real credit to our defence this season. Nikola Markovic in goal played all but 2 of our games, featuring in 46 in all competitions and he kept a ridiculous 35 clean sheets ffs :D He was good but real credit to the whole back line to be fair as that is some achievement.
