He won't be coming back, just a pipe dream i'm afraid icon_frown.gif

Although the El Kakouri deal should be confirmed soon, the Carrick deal is almost completed, a deal for Dawson is in the pipeline and a shock move for Kanoute **could** be on the cards icon_smile.gif

Cahill deal has fallen through, maybe we'll get in there, although i'm not so sure we're after him, we would've bid when Palace did if we were that intersted.

Oh well, no doubt another fruitless day on the transfer front icon_frown.gif

How do you know about all these, the other day on Sky Sports News West Ham said they haven't had any bids for Carrick. El-Kakouri and Dawson, are we really signing 2 centre backs???

Where did you here abouta possible move for Kanoute, all I heard was he was leaving Spurs.

They would all be good signings though icon_smile.gif

One down icon_wink.gif

El Kakouri has signed officially, in a one million pounds deal.

A lot of places are suggesting we have paid 1m for him, but it was a free transfer and this '1m' figure that is quoted is the full cost of the deal.

Just the club trying to point out that free transfers do incur a cost when we only spend a tiny amount of the 15m on actuall transfer fees icon_frown.gif

And there will be two more transfers on the way. One will certainly be a striker with Earnshaw, Kanoute, and i'm sure a few other in the frame.

The other is likely to be either a holding midfielder that we have lacked since Parker left icon_frown.gif Carrick, Dawson, or even a second stiker.

I'm still praying that move for Nonda from Monaco could be on the cards [/wishful thinking]

Still, I wouldn't be suprised if Curbs some someone out of the blue that hasn't once been linked, i.e. Rommedahl.

I think Cole will do well here at Villa...I know he wasnt much cop for you lot but he just seemed like he didnt want to be there. From the way he is talking I think the lad has a point to prove and thinks he can do it at Villa Park. Although the signing has caused divided opinion amongst us villa fans. I just have faith O'Leary knows what he is doing.

He was terrible on loan at Wolves also, but hopefully he will improve for us, it seemed whenever he was given a chance at Chelsea he scored.

I'm not convinced he's that much better than Crouch though to be honest.

Have you heard his interview:

"It isn't the ideal move for me, but it gives me the chance to prove what I can do at a bigger club than charlton"

He's an egotistical fool, and he hasn't got that much to be egotistical about tbh.

Still, there must be some repercussions from this, it was an important part of the Scott Parker deal ande something has to be given in return as the contract has surely been broken.

Carlton Cole is still listed as a charlton player on the website and it clearly states he's a charlton player for this season.

Certainly won't be the last we hear of this, we'll porobably end up with Huth on loan instead. Not been too impressed with him tbh.

Well, it seems I was correct icon_biggrin.gif

Varney labels Cole announcement 'premature'

Charlton chief executive Peter Varney has branded an announcement made by Chelsea and Aston Villa regarding the future of Carlton Cole 'premature'.

The two clubs announced on Monday that they had agreed a year-long loan deal that would take Cole to Villa Park for the 2004/05 season.

But Varney, responding to numerous enquiries from supporters regarding the situation, said: "I am aware that our supporters are expecting to see Carlton Cole to return to the club on loan for 2004/5.

"The announcement by Aston Villa and Chelsea that they have agreed a year's loan is premature and I do not wish to make any further comments at this time."

We aren't letting this one go, so it'll probably be another situation like the beach fiasco. \o/

I really hope no one was suggesting they wanted him back!

I'm crossing my fingers they loan us a decent striker ie. Kezman instead

What a farce though really

Well it seems we'll announce the signing of Mathieu Flamini some time this week. He's a 20 year old midefield who currently plays for Marseille.

Don't know anything about him myself, anyone out there who does?

Some games you'll be able to get tickets, not always a sell out. icon14.gif But it quite often is.

It's on the official Mareille website now about Flamini not travelling with their squad and the manager saying that he's dissapointed he's chosen to come to charlton icon_smile.gif

My French isn't really up to reading that, but a translation website came up with:

Mathieu Flamini The young land environment and the trainer of the om had an appointment Tuesday evening. Unfortunately Mathieu Flamini did not come. "It called me to say me that there had been a quiproquo" he specified us. Even if Mathieu Flamini should be in Switzerland to meet the Olympian coach, José Anigo regrets his absence: "For the moment, it is not there and I must do with. The om will not die if Mathieu leaves and I wish to him to do a big career in a big club as Charlton… I do not want some for him for this is again a child."

Basically he isn't travelling to see the Olympian coach and he wishes for a big club like Charlton

Does it mean he;s going to sign for us definetly?

Cole loan to be probed

By Leo Spall and Matt Hughes, Evening Standard

15 July 2004

The Premier League are to investigate Carlton Cole's loan moves following an official complaint from Charlton.

They will ask Chelsea to explain why the former England Under-21 striker has been allowed to join Aston Villa when Charlton thought they had secured his services for another season.

Charlton believed that extending Cole's loan at The Valley was part of the package that took Scott Parker to Stamford Bridge in January, but Chelsea insist that the two deals were not related.

They have not received any communications from Charlton or the Premier League and are unhappy that the affair is being played out in public.

Charlton fans welcomed the news when the deal went through as it softened the blow of losing their best player mid-season.

But Cole made it clear this summer that he did not want to spend another year with Alan Curbishley's side and Chelsea have allowed him to move to Villa Park instead.

The striker added salt to Charlton's wound when, on joining Villa, he said he was pleased to have arrived at a bigger club.

The Premier League will now ask Chelsea for their views before deciding how best to resolve the issue. The chances of a quick resolution appear slim as the clubs have a bitter recent history.

They had a war of words last year after Charlton complained to the Premier League about the amount of sand on the Stamford Bridge pitch.

Chelsea were fined £5,000 for failing to inform their opponents about the state of the surface, but Valley officials claimed their grievance was not taken seriously enough.

There was further bad blood during the Parker transfer, as Charlton suspected there was an orchestrated campaign to unsettle the midfielder.

Manager Alan Curbishley has said the club are determined to stand up for themselves against so-called bigger outfits and the Cole case may be another issue Charlton are prepared to fight hard on.

Chief executive Peter Varney said: "I am aware that our supporters are expecting to see Cole to return to the club on loan for 2004-05.

"The announcement by Aston Villa and Chelsea that they have agreed a year's loan is premature and I do not wish to make any further comments at this time."

Glad to see we're doing something about it, just hope it gets resolved quickly

Cole attacks Curbs management style

CONTROVERSIAL Chelsea striker Carlton Cole refused to go back to Charlton because he did not believe the club could improve him as a player.

The highly-rated 20-year-old is at the centre of a furious row between the Addicks and Chelsea after Blues farmed him out on a year-long loan to Aston Villa.

Charlton claim that under the terms of the £10million sale of Scott Parker to the Stamford Bridge giants last season, Cole was due to return to The Valley for a second loan spell this season.

But Mirror Sport has learnt that Cole was unhappy at the training methods of Charlton boss Alan Curbishley.

Curbs, who figures prominently in the betting for next England manager, is highly rated throughout football for his ability to maximise the potential of the players at his disposal.

But Cole believed that the Charlton boss's approach was too negative, focusing on how to stop teams rather than planning to attack them.

His discontent at The Valley left Chelsea with no option but to offer the rising star his pick of the remainder of the pack of Premiership clubs clamouring for his services.

Fulham, Birmingham, Southampton, Everton and Tottenham were all interested in the England Under-21 hitman.

But Cole chose Villa because he was happy with boss David O'Leary's style of play and is convinced that the Irishman can enable him not only to break into the Chelsea first team but also into the England set-up.

icon_biggrin.gif There are no quotes, so this could be rubbish, as for a guy who hasn't even played a year of professional football too criticise the methods of one of the most sucessfull managers in the league would be pretty stupid icon_biggrin.gif

DUO NET DOUBLE FOR RAMPANT ADDICKS

Jason Euell and Jonatan Johansson both signalled their intent for the season with two goals and one assist apiece in Charlton's 8-0 victory in their first pre-season friendly at Welling United - as fans witnessed three new players.

While the most important aspect of any such summer game is that everyone gets a run out, the contribution of both forwards shows they are already raring to go for the Premiership campaign - just 29 days away.

Euell struck with two headers in the 12th and 32nd minutes, and then produced a beautifully-weighted pass that released Paolo Di Canio, who duly played in Graham Stuart to slot home.

In the second half, Johansson produced two cool finishes and then created a goal for Lloyd Sam, who's fellow academy graduates Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Stacy Long also found the back of the net.

It was perhaps fitting that the opening goal of the evening should come as the public address system announced that one black Ford Escort minus a handbrake was currently working its way down Park View Road, Welling.

The home side, up until then having kept Charlton reasonably in check, were caught completely static as Di Canio slipped through for Euell.

The forward was given a free run towards goal, but could only hit goalkeeper Martin Brennan with his first effort.

However, the ball returned to his feet, and he slotted underneath the stopper's diving body.

Three minutes later and Charlton's top goalscorer of last season almost added another when he curled a shot from outside the area that the goalkeeper struggled to prevent creeping under the crossbar.

In the 20th minute he should have done much better when the impressive Paul Konchesky skipped down the left wing and delivered a superb ball to the near post.

Euell was on it like a flash, but somehow missed the target with his shot from within the six-yard box.

Stuart was next to waste a good opportunity when Di Canio floated a cross from the left, finding the midfielder in acres of space.

He had enough time to position himself for the header - but hit the upright.

Then the spotlight was back on Euell when he missed the target with a glancing header from a Konchesky cross - but almost immediately the two linked up again to double the lead.

The 23-year-old, playing in his preferred full-back role, whipped into the near post, and Euell glanced across goal and past Brennan.

Now at this point one would think that Euell's strike partner Di Canio might be a little annoyed at being in the shadows.

But the Italian showed his ego was not the first thing on his mind when he gave up an easy goalscoring opportunity when he chose to instead play provider for Stuart, who slotted home to make it 3-0 in the 36th minute.

That's not to say Paolo didn't enjoy himself, and indeed the tricks he wowed a packed Park View Road ground with were perhaps inspired by the competition offered from Jerome Thomas.

Thomas was only briefly on view last season after his January move from Arsenal, making his debut in the second half of the Premiership game with Leicester City.

But he showed his own brand of wing wizardry, bursting down the left wing, taking players on the inside and out, and not scared of moving into a central position to fire on goal.

Di Canio's swansong to the game came just before the break, as he presumably knew he would not be playing in the second period.

He received the ball out on the right after a chipped through ball from Osei Sankofa, and cut in on his left.

The former Milan and Juventus forward then produced a drawn shot that perhaps one of the chaps at the top of The Open leader board would have been proud. The ball looked to be heading for the corner flag when it left his boot, but pulled inside and actually hit the post.

Only Thomas and Sankofa remained of the starting XI as the second half got underway, and within 24 seconds Jonatan Johansson had made it 4-0.

Winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce had a shot saved and the Finn neatly struck home, and 18 minutes later added a second.

With Welling clearly tiring he then played a superb ball between the central defensive pair which allowed Lloyd Sam to hit the sixth.

The Leeds-born midfielder cut in from the right side and smashed home past the helpless Brennan.

Youngsters Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Stacy Long then both produced contenders for an impromptu Goal of the Pre-season with two goals in three minutes.

The former skipped in from the left and thumped a shot past the goalkeeper at the near post, while the latter lobbed Brennan from 25 yards.

Each of the debutants - Talal El Karkouri, Bryan Hughes and Stephan Andersen - impressed the large Charlton contingent.

Hughes looked composed in central midfield alongside Neil McCafferty, while Andersen had little to do when he played the second 45 minutes - surviving a scare caused by a poor backpass from Mark Fish.

Morocco defender El Karkouri showed he is not afraid of possession, but his height and aerial ability will undoubtedly prove a big addition when the Premiership season comes around.

Haven't beaten them like that before I don't think. Not a bad start to preseason icon14.gif

Just read a quote from Kanu's agent

'Charlton have been in touch but West Brom offered more money and I believe he will go there'

Surely if we wanted him, which it seems like we did if we were in touch, then we could have offered more than West Brom. When are we going to get the striker we desperately need? I'm getting slightly worried now

The team has landed in China with a hero's welcome

The 22 man squad is missing Paolo, and the two danes after Euro 2004, Paolo got a slight injury in the Welling match

Strangely however, there are only 21 names named on the website

Chris Perry and Jonathon Johansson are not mentioned

However, it appears to Chris Perry in a picture having just got off the bus, which suggests Jonathon hasn't travelled

Why is this?

Many people had already been speculating he'd be travelling in the opposite direction in an exchange deal for a player

Dodgy rumours from www.footballrumours.com

There's onlt 1, possibly 2 that I'd think could ever come true, I doubt any will necessarily. But they do make me laugh icon_biggrin.gif

Proof enough for me icon14.gif

Some of these are so stupid, yet funny. That rumours website you actually can send in anything you like and they'll put it up. That does look like Perry in the photo, strange why he isn't on the list. JJ has been linked with Norwich for £750k, if thats true we must have a new striker near to signing, otherwise we would keep him.

Anyway lets wait for the new signings, hope we get 2 or 3 like we were meant to be.

The friendlies after the China tour will all have live commentry links on cafc.co.uk icon_smile.gif

Well according to the website now, JJ is there icon_redface.gif

The full squad for the China tour is: Dean Kiely, Chris Powell, Radostin Kishishev, Jonatan Johansson, Graham Stuart, Luke Young, Mark Fish, Shaun Bartlett, Matt Holland, Hermann Hreidarsson, Jason Euell, Jonathan Fortune, Jerome Thomas, Stephan Andersen, Kevin Lisbie, Paul Konchesky, Bryan Hughes, Talal El Karkouri, Simon Royce, Micheal Turner, Osei Sankofa, Jamal Campbell-Ryce.

Very strange that Perry isn't listed, it's clearly him with Fish in the picture.

It's very odd RedRob, what the hell's going on, it's definetly Chris Perry

Someone obviously contacted the website to tell them they forgot Jonathon

quote:
Charlton Athletic ace Paolo Di Canio is doubtful for the start of the new season after pulling out of the club's pre-season tour of China.

The Italian star has been forced to withdraw from the squad for the trip to the Far East with stomach problems.

Di Canio picked up the problem in last week's 8-0 demolition of Welling and he faces a spell on the sidelines.

Addicks boss Alan Curbishley has decided to leave Di Canio back in England so that he can receive treatment on the injury in a bid to have him fit for the beginning of the new Premiership campaign next month.

That's from skysports.com, however they print some rubbish

Apparently Newcastle want to swap Beattie for Shearer

That would never ever happen
