2032/33 Season Review

Eredivisie: Finished in 2nd place (predicted 6th) - Runners Up, qualified for UEFA Champions League

We again finished 2nd in the Eredivisie. We did exactly the same as we did last season in choking the title away. Please GOD, don't let it happen for the third season in a row.

Final Table  -  Season Results Aug - Dec | Jan - May

KNVB Beker: Winners (predicted Quarter-Final)

Revenge is very sweet. We breezed past Tweede Divisie opposition in Quick '20, 10-0 in the First Round, setting a club record score before dispatching a Keuken Kampioen Divisie side, NEC Nijmegen 1-0 in the Second Round. We were then paired up with high-flying sc Heerenveen in the Third Round and a walkover 4-0 win saw us breeze into the Quarter Finals, where we faced another top 4 side in Vitesse Arnhem, only winning 2-1 late on!. In the Semi Finals, we destroyed long time nemesis Feyenoord Rotterdam 5-2.  This put us into the Final where we faced NAC Breda and, despite playing like 11 donkeys, we eventually triumphed 2-0 AET to give us our second cup success in three seasons.  Cup Results

UEFA Champions League: Lost in Group Stage (predicted Group Stage)

Our third season in Europe's premier competition, beating FC Basel and Vitoria Guimaraes to reach the Group Stage. However, being in a group that contained FC Bayern Munich, Arsenal FC & Athletic Club Bilbao meant that we had our backsides thoroughly handed to us and crashed out bottom of the group for the first time in European competition.. Euro Results

Commercial Summary

An 'interesting' season, where we came up short in a number of ways, but finally had a top goalscorer other than Sam van Weert. Also, we will be playing in the ING Stadium for the next 4 years after a commercial deal with one of the Netherlands' biggest companies.

2033/34 Pre-Season Depth Chart

So, each season, I will post up a depth chart of the players in my main formation. It will consist of First Team, Backup & Youth... if I have them. We're chugging away quite nicely right now for players, but we do need to start retraining players for positions, otherwise we'll see an issue when injuries or player sales bite (Lineups accurate on 13:00, 11 July 2033)

The right hand side of the team has had serious surgery with two new RB's entering the depth chart and losing our RM depth. This is also possibly Mark Wijks' last season as second choice midfield and Sam van Weert's as top striker.

Academy Watch: Class of 2028

In this section, we'll look at my historical youth intakes. At the end of every season, I'll go back and look at an intake from my time here at RKC and see if the key prospects worked out? Or if they flamed out, never to be seen again.

Intake #10. It's the Class of 2028.

2028 yoof 2

A few decent and a lot of mediocre. We'll concentrate on the 3* prospects and up, unless there are any significant deviations. We had Frans Meeuwis, Gino Lurling and Çağrı Bal as our 3* and up.

Gino Lurling

Then: 16 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Now: 21 years old, Paris Saint-Germain

Gino was looked at as the heir-apparent to the MR position when he arrived. He made 14 appearances for the club in all competitions over 3 seasons, scoring one goal and assisting three times for an average rating of 6.81. However, in the January 2030 transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain swooped in with a £5.25m bid and he was off to France. So far, he has made just 10 appearances for the PSG first team in his 5 seasons here, getting an average rating of 7.33. Gino also spent the 2032/33 season on loan to Montpellier Herault SC, making 6 substitute appearances for an average rating of 6.60.

Gino has so far, only appeared for the Netherlands U-20s side, winning two tournaments and being voted Best Player at the 2030 Toulon Tournament.

Frans Meeuwis

Then: 15 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Now: 21 years old, Sporting Club de Lisbon

Frans' RKC career is a cautionary tale to myself. having made 5 appearances in his first two seasons for an average rating of 6.70, things were looking bright. Then Sporting Club de Lisbon came in with a contract offer, because I. I, the idiot, had not given him a full-time contract and his youth contract held no protection. He was whisked away to Portugal for the paltry sum of £1.2m in the summer of 2029. Since then, he's appeared 30 times for the club in all competitions, getting an average match rating of 6.78. During his time in the Portuguese capital, he spent the 2029/30 season on loan at Villarreal S.A.D in Spain. There he made 30 appearances with two goals and an assist to show for it, getting an average rating of 6.70.

Frans has also made an astonishing 41 appearances for the Netherlands U-21's, scoring 12 goalsbut is also yet to pick up a full cap

Çağrı Bal

Then: 16 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Now: 21 years old, Real Zaragoza S.A.D

Çağrı was heralded as a decent goalkeeping prospect on his arrival. In his time at the club, he made 22 appearances in all competitions, conceding 19 goals and keeping 9 clean sheets for an average rating of 6.97. In January 2032, however, a strange log jam of goalies meant that Bal was the odd one out, being sold to Real Zaragoza S.A.D for £1m. During his time in La Liga Santander, he has made 12 appearances, conceding 28 goals and keeping one clean sheet for an average rating of 6.04.

Çağrı has also made 2 appearances for the Netherlands, being a part of two championship-winning squads, the 2033 UEFA Nations League and the 2033 FIFA Confederations Cup

This was a poor show for the below 3* rated players, with only Andre Wassenburg being an established first team player.

August 2033 Transfer Window

Targets:

2034 targets

"Starting to become a fixture in the UEFA Champions League. But we need to start consistently winning the league or get a better UEFA co-efficient as we're having to fight through the playoff and it's affecting our league form".

This is from last year and quite frankly, nothing has changed...

Transfers:

2034 aug Transfers

A number of departures this window. None important.

Gijs van Duijnhoven (sold to Almere City for £850k, rising to £1.1m with add-ons)

A sad loss this one. Over 250 appearances for the club, but he was only going to be 3rd choice for the forseeable future, so it was kinder to let him go.

Jual Talea (sold to FC Twente Enschende for £1.7m)

He was getting games, but very infrequently and as a result, was complaining about game time. So another departure.

Melvin Plat (sold to SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden for £1m)

Another right back that had fallen from first team to third place rapidly. He was never the right back we needed, so off he f**ked

Jelle Maas (sold to FC Eindhoven for £1.6m)

7th choice CM and subject of an offer by a newly-promoted club?? You betcha!

Rob van Miert (sold to SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden for £120k)

4th choice full back? Bye.

Riechedly Gosepa (sold to FC Den Bosch for £150k)

7th choice DC? Also bye.

First time that one of my players has received this award. (Andre de Wit won it in his first season at Borussia Dortmund)

January 2034 Transfer Window

Transfers:

2034 jan transfers

Three first team players exited this window, to shock and awe amongst the players. It's bold, but I need to shake things up.

Andre Wassenberg (sold to SC Freiburg to £10m)

Andre was banging off my door for a new contract and I wasn't sold on paying him what he wanted. So, with the advent of Kees Bastiaansen's performances this season, he was on the way out.

Laurens van Gerwen (sold to Hamburger SV for £31m, with add-ons culminating in £41m + 50% sell on)

My #1 right back looked to be tenured there for a long while. But a monster offer came in from Germany and, whilst I was reluctant to get rid, a brainwave reminded me I had a third-choice left back on loan that would be an excellent right back when re-trained. So I pumped Hamburg's tires for as much as I could get and accepted.

Oussama El Khatib (sold to Girondins de Bordeux for £1m + 50% sell on)

He was starting to grumble about lack of game time, so it's time to move him on.

2034 Youth Intake

2034 yute 1

FULL INTAKE OVERVIEW

Intake #16. Ouch. This was one poor intake. We're still at Exceptional Youth Coaching and Extensive Youth Recruitment. As usual, I'll be concentrating on the 3* and above prospects, however I'll highlight the top three prospects in my eyes of each intake and also concentrate on the U-19's vs Youth Candidates match.

--------------------------------------------------

Top 2 Prospects

GK Zemir Kovacevic

Zemir is a decent goalie prospect who will either be sold off or kept for backup later on

DC Ricardo Otto

Ricardo continues a decent conveyor belt of central defenders. Can't see him making the first team any time soon

-------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------

How far will YOUR youth go: 2034?

Just how local are my intakes? We have State of the Art Youth facilities, but are we getting the cream of local youth?

Apart from the Israeli, we've got a fairly local intake again. Which, to be honest, is good, because it seems the further away they are, the worse they are.

2033/34 Season Review

Eredivisie: Finished in 1st place (predicted 6th) - Champions, qualified for UEFA Champions League

Completely different season this season as we stormed into an early lead and never let up as Feyenoord faltered and we finshed 1st in the Eredivisie, 18 points ahead of second-placed PSV Eindhoven. All our losses this season came when we were reduced to 10 men, which was odd.

Final Table  -  Season Results Aug - Dec | Jan - May

KNVB Beker: Winners (predicted Final)

Back-to-back winners. We breezed past Derde Divisie Zatertag opposition in FC Lisse, 7-0 in the First Round, before dispatching a Derde Divisie Zonderdag side, TEC VV 8-2 in the Second Round. We were then paired up with middling Helmond Sport in the Third Round and a walkover 5-1 win saw us breeze into the Quarter Finals, where we faced a replay of last season's final in NAC Breda, winning easily 2-0!. In the Semi Finals, we easily rolled over Sparta Rotterdam 2-1.  This put us into the Final where we faced Vitesse Arnhem and, despite playing like 11 donkeys AGAIN, we eventually triumphed 2-1 AET to give us our third cup success in four seasons. Kees Bastiaansen scored a monsterous 15 goals during this cup run.  Cup Results

UEFA Champions League: Lost in Semi Final (predicted Group Stage)

Our fourth season in Europe's premier competition, beating Lech Poznan and European heavyweights Olympique Lyonnais to reach the Group Stage. Last season's Group Stage exit was playing on our minds, so when we drew Liverpool, Schalke 04 and Galatasaray A.S, it seemed like it might happen again, but we turned the script on it's head by finishing 1st in the Group, which put us up against AC Milan in the First Knockout Round. Winning 1-0 in Italy, then 3-0 at home saw us triumph 4-0 on aggregate. A Quarter Final date loomed with our destroyers last season, FC Bayern Munchen. But, again, we tore up the form book and beat them 3-1, both home and away..

This put us into the Semi-Final. Atletico Madrid, the opponents. And we were playing well in the first half away in Spain, but three minutes into the second half, all hell broke loose. Mark Linders got two yellow cards within two minutes to see red. Then Jordie de Loojier decided to get himself booked for a second time JUST SECONDS after Linders' red to follow him down the tunnel. We didn't cope well in that second half and lost 0-3. Our home leg brought a little more respectability to the tie, as we had 15 shots blocked and only managed one goal to win the second leg 1-0, but losing on aggregate 1-3. This one will sting for a while as we really should have progressed... Euro Results

Awards

Review

Stats

Commercial Summary

A domestic clean sweep this season with all trophies won, including the Reserves title and U-19 League and Cup double. Alas, our Euro exit will sting for a very long time.

In terms of domestic dominance, absolutely!

It’s probably been the most fun, with Kees Bastiaansen breaking youngest player and scorer records for the Eredivisie, Champions League and World Cup

The right hand side of the team again has changes with a new First XI right back and third choice, plus the adding of some right midfield depth. Sam van Weert's reign as top striker has ended as he falls to third choice after Kees Bastiaansen's monster debut season

RKC Waalwijk

Academy Watch: Class of 2029

In this section, we'll look at my historical youth intakes. At the end of every season, I'll go back and look at an intake from my time here at RKC and see if the key prospects worked out? Or if they flamed out, never to be seen again.

Intake #11. It's the Class of 2029.

2029 yoof 2

A better intake than a few recent ones here. We'll concentrate on the 3* prospects and up, unless there are any significant deviations. We had Dennis van Leeuwen, Jordi Huisman, Ruud Propper and Bradley Knopper as our 3* and up.

Dennis van Leeuwen

Then: 16 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Now: 21 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Dennis came into the club as a highly touted left back prospect. Since his promotion from the academy, the wonderkid has played 51 times for the club in all competitions, scoring 4 times and assisting 15 times for an average match rating of 7.30. Due to a logjam at left back, Dennis was loaned to Serie A TIM side Atalanta for two seasons in the summer of 2031. During his time in Italy, he made 30 appearances for them, scoring once for an average rating of 6.71.

Dennis has a number of medals in his short career so far, winning 2033/34 Dutch Young Player of the Year along with winning 3 KNVB Beker titles, an Eredivisie winners medal and a Johan Cruijff Schaal winners medal with the club. He also holds winners medals at international level, having picked up winners medals with the Netherlands at the 2033 Euro U-21 Championship, the 2032 Toulon Tournament, the 2033 European U-20 Elite League and the big one, the 2034 FIFA World Cup

Dennis has appeared at all levels for the Netherlands side, winning three youth tournaments and the big one. He's currently made 5 appearances for the Netherlands senior side, with one assist. Denis made his senior debut against Peru in March 2034.

Jordi Huisman

Then: 15 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Now: 21 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Jordi was one of the best prospects to ever come out of the academy, and has certainly become a mainstay of our defence. He's has currently made 114 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and assisting 6 times for an average match rating of 7.14

Jordi has been at the forefront of the club's success in his short career, winning two Eredivisie titles, two Johan Cruijff Schaal's and a pair of KNVB Beker triumphs. He also has a 2032 Toulon Tournament title win with the Netherlands youth side and three winners medals at senior level, winning the 2033 UEFA Nations League, the 2033 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Jordi has also made appearances at every level for the Netherlands, winning a youth tournament before graduating to the senior side. He's currently made 11 appearances for the Netherlands, making his debut against Portugal in November 2032. Another memorable moment was scoring the first of his 3 goals for the senior side, away in Azerbaijan in March 2033.

Ruud Propper

Then: 16 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Now: 21 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Ruud came through with the tag of being Huisman's partner for the forseeable future. While that hasn't actually happened, he has still made 93 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and assisting once for an average match rating of 7.22.

Ruud has had success so far in his career, having a 2033/34 Eredivisie winners medal, to go with his 2033 Johan Cruijff Schaal and two KNVB Beker medals

Ruud has, so far, only appeared up to the Netherlands U-21 side, but he is a serial winner, being a part of two UEFA U-21 Championship-winning squads and winning THREE UEFA U-20 Elite League titles with the Netherlands youth teams

Bradley Knopper

Then: 16 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Now: 21 years old, RKC Waalwijk

Bradley was a late bloomer into the side, making his way up the depth chart. So far, he's made 113 appearances for the club in all competitions, conceding 84 goals and keeping 58 clean sheets for an average rating of 7.01

Bradley has a good mix of personal and team honours, with him winning the 2032 Toulon Tournament Best Goalkeeper Award, the 2033/34 Eredivisie Best Goalkeeper Award and finishing runner up in the 2033/34 UEFA Champions League Best Goalkeeper Award on a personal level and taking home winners medals, both at domestic (2033/34 Eredivisie and the 2033 & 2034 KNVB Beker trophies) and international level (2032 Toulon Tournament, 2033 UEFA Nations League, 2033 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2034 FIFA World Cup)

Bradley has made appearances all the way up the Netherlands system, culminating in 5 appearances for the senior side. Bradley made his senior debut against Finland in October 2032.

As for the rank and file, only Mark Linders and Guy Sh1trit has made appearances for the first team out of the rest of the intake.

2035 ucl group draw

I'm wincing at Celtic's group and I don't like Red Star Belgrade's much either. Anderlecht are new opponents for us, having played PSG before and been knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Bayer 04 Leverkusen a number of years ago

So, the board want me to win the Double again. No pressure. I'm also hoping for a deep run in the UEFA Champions League to boost our seeding.

Just the one real departure and that was a pre-arranged part of his loan last season...

Edward Franken (sold to Vitesse Arnhem for £2.5m)

It was a clause in his previous loan which Vitesse chose to exercise. Byyyye
