OTF Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2018

Recommended Posts

QUESTION 10: Why did several people suggest that Mr_Demus should buy some bondage gear in May?

This turned out to be a rather tough question, which I'm pleased about. I like it tough... much like a lot of you suggested Mr_Demus does in your answer to this question.

On 01/05/2018 at 20:35, Mr_Demus said:

Hello.

I seek your scholarly advice on a private matter. My wife and I have been married for nearly three years. We have a tradition of giving eachother gifts with the theme of the wedding anniversary. For instance 1 year married is a cotton anniversary, 2 years paper. My problem is, that 3 is leather, and I simply cannot come up with a good gift. We have a budget of roughly £30.

What could I give to my wife? And do the married folks on here have this tradition or another?

On 01/05/2018 at 20:41, Rob1981 said:

Bondage gear surely.  Married three years, must need to spice it up.

The answer, sadly, is not as saucy as a lot of you seem to have hoped. It was simply because it was his 3 year (leather) anniversary!

Spanking their way up the leaderboard here are @Confused Clarity, @DB08 and @Mr_Demus with a point each!

Wow - May is over already! Leaderboard to follow!

MAY ROUND LEADERBOARD:

BUNyHC1.png

@sebsy wins May with a pretty amazing score of 10 points! @Confused Clarity just one behind...

Bad news for @georginho_juventusygr as he failed to get off the mark.

Great news for @bdcuk as him forgetting to do his answers means he achieves his highest ever round score, of 0.

It's getting hot in here! June is up next, and the heatwave has taken hold. Due to some sort of football thing or something over the summer, OTF use went down a little, leaving me scraping the barrel to put together 10 questions - how inconsiderate of you all.

Round 6 - JUNE

1. Solve this picture quiz to explain why @Harryseaess couldn't get a pint one Friday after work in June! You need to pretty much get the exact phrase for a point.

LAw3Mgf.png

2. Whose "death" in June sparked the following comments on OTF? "You may say I shouldn't speak ill of the dead, but jeez what a git!" "We should just merge this with the Max Clifford memorial thread" "Never heard of him, but RIP anyway I guess." "Probably glad he died before Harry Kane won us the World Cup"

3. What, according to OTF, is the best biscuit?

4. It's the semi-annual bastard child post question! What was the subject of an OTF post in June in which the poster talks of being "stunned at their reaction" to "an amazing piece of film", but received an embarrassing ZERO replies?

5. In June, @eldeniro asked OTF what is the largest animal we think we could clingfilm wrap around a lamp post. For three points, name three answers given. Only three guesses allowed!

6. "You are being monitored", "***VIRUS***VIRUS***" and "FBI_Surveillance_Van_X15Z42B2" were all suggested by OTF members in June as potential names for what?

7. In June, what foodstuff was there a shortage of that @mark1985 was very happy about, proclaiming "Good, get rid of the stuff"

8. It's time for the semi-annual self-indulgent question that's all about me! In June, I posted about going to a karaoke bar and singing one song before immediately going home, leaving my colleagues in a state of "shock and bewilderment". What was the song?

9. In June, @Readingfanman suggested that it would be a shambles for the PC to win the voting for OTF's favourite video game platform in @Barry Cartman's thread, given that it was not a games console. What was ironic about this comment?

10. In June, what, in @Astafjevs's view, was a thread that he thought the mods should be regularly checking to hand out infractions (presumably due to how embarrassing the subject of the thread can be perceived to be)?

I'm off to Lille in the morning for a Christmas party! So your deadline is a little longer here, please get your answers in by 7pm on Sunday 16 December! Over and out!

Good job @Mr_Demus got that one right, else he'd not have made it to his 4th anniversary!

I'd just like to point out, that today is her birthday. I got up early, took care of the offspring AND made her pancakes and hot cocoa. I'd say I'm pretty safe at least until our next anniversary :D

QUESTION 2: What are these OTF quotes talking about from May? "haahah ahhaha what happened to UK oh my....", "WHAT'S JUST HAPPENED?", "WTF happened there? Did I miss something?", "What the hell happened just then?", "Wait.. what?", "That was... OK."

Clearly, something ****ing mental has happened here. But what was it? What happened that caused an immediate WTF reaction? Ah, of course, it can only be the most extra TV event of the year....

It was, as Mr_Whippy so eloquently puts it, about the stage invasion during UK's Eurovision entry! This, to be fair, was highly unusual behaviour.

Maximum points (well, just one point) to @Confused Clarity, @sebsy, @DB08 and @KF1990

@Semi Skilled Milk with an absolute nil points here with his suggestion that the OTT reactions were simply because someone's hat blew off.....

Was already in bed by the time answers were revealed last night.

In the interests of fairness, I'm not sure if I should have got a point for this one? My answer was ' 2. Logical guess here, Eurovision is in May and I recall seeing we got absolutely no points at all so that? '.

I used logic to guess it was something to do with Eurovision with it being in May, but I didn't get there was a stage invasion. Also, on a look on wikipedia it also appears we didn't get 0 points so all I really got here was 'Eurovision'. Is that enough for a point? :D If it is then fair enough, but if not hopefully CC also only used the word Eurovision without getting the stage invasion part.

June is a struggle though!

You're just bitter because 50% of the questions are about you and you still can't win :(

There are two things I love about this. bdcuk gets his highest ever score by forgetting to give his answers And, despite giving answers, georginho couldn't better him :D

It's results time! I'm 10 minutes late due to my mother talking for England on the telephone, bless her. I'll be doing a couple of sums and then it's on with the answers.

QUESTION 1: Solve this picture quiz to explain why Harryseaess couldn't get a pint one Friday after work in June! You need to pretty much get the exact phrase for a point.

Don't you love a picture quiz, it's great fun! Let's unscramble this one...

It was the Worldwide Visa Payment Issue! Where nobody could buy anything on their card one day. Strangely, this happened just one week after an OTF thread about how people still liked to use cash... so I think an OTFer brought down the system.

Quids in here are @sebsy, @Confused Clarity@Scott1892, @Bliss Seeker, @gechal, @dafuge, @The_jagster, @KF1990 and @mark1985

@toon_84 clearly isn't one for Pictionary, with his answer to this being "Dickie Bird forgot it was Planet Earth Day".

"We should just merge this with the Max Clifford memorial thread" "Never heard of him, but RIP anyway I guess." "Probably glad he died before Harry Kane won us the World Cup"

Connoisseurs amongst may have noticed the strategically placed quotation marks around the word "death" in this question, suggesting that this may in fact have not been a death at all...

On 06/06/2018 at 09:28, gechal said:

I didn't read it as bills seeker, just as bliss seeker. I thought you'd died

On 06/06/2018 at 09:42, Mr Villa said:

Also. I thought Bliss was dead.

On 06/06/2018 at 09:52, Confused Clarity said:

I wasn't sure if Bliss was dead or was having a narcissistic moment, either way, I read the title wrong.

The "death" in question was in fact that of Bliss Seeker! A confusing thread title lead OTF to believe he had conked it, hence the rather unsavoury tributes flooding.

Just one correct answer here. Who do you think that was? You guessed it - @sebsy gets a point!

Two of you went for Fred Dinenage, who isn't dead. He is in fact my local news presenter, and a lovely man. Shame on you!

QUESTION 3: What, according to OTF, is the best biscuit?

No ****ing about with this question. No fancy wording or clever pictures or anything like that. What's the best biscuit, you ****s?

kxDxvnF.png

With an impressive 28% of the vote, the Chocolate Hobnob takes the crown! Nobody voted for Nice, which isn't very nice.

@sebsy, @Confused Clarity, @Scott1892, @Bliss Seeker, @gechal@bestbrother, @grff, @Ackter, @KF1990 can enjoy their tea in peace here, with a point each.

@Mr_Demus took the opportunity during his answer to this question to protest about what he perceives to be a UK bias in this quiz. If he would like to confirm his nationality, I will be happy to accommodate this at a later stage.

@Wigmore SHAMBLES!

Again, in the interests of fairness, I voted for Hobnob here, but the winner was Chocolate Hobnob.

Points were awarded for any mention of Hobnob - you weren't the only one who didn't cover their answer in chocolate.

QUESTION 4: It's the semi-annual bastard child post question! What was the subject of an OTF post in June in which the poster talks of being "stunned at their reaction" to "an amazing piece of film", but received an embarrassing ZERO replies?

A tough question here. The nature of the post suggests unpopularity, so not an easy one to remember. That's why I only do questions like this on a semi-annual basis.

On 22/06/2018 at 12:08, gechal said:

It is all over the internet but thought it good to post here, because why not?

I am stunned at the reaction I had to this. Amazing peice of film.

It was about the Paul McCartney Carpool Karaoke! Clearly not as popular as @gechal hoped, who was not only the only person to post about it, but was the only person to get a point on this question.

I do recommend you watch it though - it is amazing.

Ffs :D

I am doing my best to throw points away here. I went for Hobnob, because they are awesome, and never even gave Chocolate Hobnobs a thought, and figure if they were separate options in the poll, they would be separate answers here.

Fine, give me a point, I don't ****ing care.

QUESTION 5: In June, eldeniro asked OTF what is the largest animal we think we could clingfilm wrap around a lamp post. For three points, name three answers given. Only three guesses allowed!

Nothing weird about this subject - pretty standard OTF behaviour if you ask me.

You could have had any of the following: Ostrich, Blue Whale, Dinosaur, Megashark, Anaconda, Hamster, Deez nuts, Your mum, Cow, Ant, Turtle, Johnny Vegas, Giraffe, Amoeba, Horse, Pug

Up on their clingfilming knowledge are these fabulous points scorers:

3 points: @toon_84

2 points: @bestbrother, @Sons FC, @Scott1892

1 point: @sebsy @Confused Clarity@Bliss Seeker, @grff

QUESTION 6: "You are being monitored", "***VIRUS***VIRUS***" and "FBI_Surveillance_Van_X15Z42B2" were all suggested by OTF members in June as potential names for what?

A nice easy one here.

We were of course talking about WiFi network names! My WiFi is called "Connecting...", which really screws people up I hope. God, I'm a bastard.

12 out of 18 of you got the right answer here. By the way, only 18 of you participated in this month - the lowest ever figure for a Big Fat Quiz round. Come on guys, get involved - you might just enjoy it!

Sadly the following comrades didn't manage to crack the password to this question: @bestbrother (new username for Bliss), @grff (no answer), @Sons FC (new iPhone), @KF1990 (porn sites), @georginho_juventusygr (new Google Earth cars) and @bdcuk (utter filth).

QUESTION 7: In June, what foodstuff was there a shortage of that mark1985 was very happy about, proclaiming "Good, get rid of the stuff"

Brace yourselves guys, points are about to get a bit thin on the ground, as a lot of you rather struggled with the end of this round.

On 26/06/2018 at 18:32, The Guy From The Sunny Place said:

People here in the island are puzzled by the reported shortage of halloumi in the UK. Rest assured this is not a conspiracy.

On 29/06/2018 at 14:37, mark1985 said:

Good. Get rid of the vile stuff.

We had a halloumi shortage! Which is particularly bad news for the 8 of you who thought it was Marmite. Even worse news for @mark1985 though, who loses a point for failing to get his own question right :( :(

@Confused Clarity is the one and only winner here in a round which stumped almost everyone.

Oh, by the way, @KF1990 went for Carbon Dioxide.

QUESTION 8: It's time for the semi-annual self-indulgent question that's all about me! In June, I posted about going to a karaoke bar and singing one song before immediately going home, leaving my colleagues in a state of "shock and bewilderment". What was the song?

Well, clearly nobody bloody listens to me in this place.

On 15/06/2018 at 09:24, Wigmore said:

Went to a karaoke bar with work last night for someone's leaving do. I sang Under The Sea from The Little Mermaid and then immediately went home, presumably leaving my colleagues in a state of shock and bewilderment.

I produced what I thought was a rather beautiful edition of Under The Sea (Little Mermaid). But since none of you remembered this, I might as well not have bothered.

I did particularly enjoy @grff's answer of Children by Robert Miles though - I would absolutely love to do an instrumental one time at karaoke.

QUESTION 9: In June, readingfanman suggested that it would be a shambles for the PC to win the voting for OTF's favourite video game platform in Barry Cartman's thread, given that it was not a games console. What was ironic about this comment?

This was a really tough question actually, but I did find it quite funny to read and @Barry Cartman's superb thread absolutely deserved a mention.

On 12/06/2018 at 11:58, Readingfanman said:

It's a shambles the PC might win :D It's not even "A games console" is it.

On 12/06/2018 at 12:00, Barry Cartman said:

You voted for an iPhone ffs :D

The irony was that, while @Readingfanman complained that the PC should not win as it is not a games console, he voted for the iPhone to win, which is in fact a telephone.

Nobody got particularly close to this one, apart from @grff who gets just about close enough for me to award a point to him. Congratz!
