Congratulations on making it all the way to August! I've had 4 beers. Let the shambles begin.

QUESTION 1: How did a man from Seattle die in August that Bliss Seeker described as "a pretty epic way to go out"?

As we edge closer to the present day, the questions are getting a little less taxing on the mind. Plenty of you absolutely nailed this one! Yeah!

On 12/08/2018 at 09:06, Confused Clarity said:

Woke up this morning in my hotel to see this story all over the news and Twitter.

Bloke was a baggage handler, stole a passenger plane, was doing Barrell rolls in it, had military jets escorting him before he crashed into an island.

It was about that guy who stole and crashed a passenger plane. Incredible scenes.

Spiralling towards a certain point here are @Semi Skilled Milk, @Confused Clarity, @sebsy, @grff, @toon_84, @The_jagster, @Deisler26, @Bliss Seeker, @bestbrother, @Sons FC, @DB08, @KF1990, @Mr_Demus and @The Rebel MC.

@Ackter is off to a slow start this round, missing the target entirely with his answer of "in a vat of pasteurised semen" :(

QUESTION 2: What was Recky_D talking about in August when he simply said "oh dear, oh dear, oh dear"?

How good are you lot at catchphrases?

On 05/08/2018 at 09:05, Rob1981 said:

Barry Chuckle dead at 73

On 05/08/2018 at 11:16, Recky_D said:

Oh dear, oh dear oh dear.

Not very, apparently. Only about half of you correctly deduced that this was about the death of Barry Chuckle.

To me, (a point) to you... to @Semi Skilled Milk, @Confused Clarity, @Scott1892, @sebsy, @toon_84, @The_jagster, @mark1985, @Bliss Seeker and @dafuge

@Gizzy might want to have a stern word with @gechal after he suggested that the answer to this question was "Mrs Gizzy".

QUESTION 3: In August, a British woman complained about her holiday to Benidorm, which was described as "pathetic" and "entitled" on OTF. What was the basis of her complaint?

Absolute carnage over here in the quiz. Only half of you remembered about the greatest comedy icon in world history dying, but almost all of you remember why some woman frivolously complained about her holidays! I'm proud of all of you - only true OTFers store this information in their minds. ****, I'm more drunk than I thought.

A British woman has claimed her holiday to Benidorm was ruined because her hotel had 'too many Spaniards in it'

On 14/08/2018 at 11:49, Confused Clarity said:

Yeah saw that before. Bit pathetic from her.

On 14/08/2018 at 12:00, sebsy said:

How entitled can you get? :D

She did of course complain that her hotel had too many Spaniards in it. Nothing like some classic xenophobic Brits abroad style tourism news.

Only @Semi Skilled Milk (too much leg room), @gechal & @HawkAussie (too many Brits), @Ackter (people got home from America quicker), @KF1990 (it was too hot) and @The Rebel MC (she found out it was the actual Benidorm) didn't get top marks here.

P.S. it is mere coincidence that both of our quiz leaders provided the quotes used from this thread - I wrote these questions months ago! Calm down everyone! FOR GOODNESS SAKE CALM DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!1 ARRRRGHHHHHHH

Do you actually write them as you go through the year? Do you write more questions than you need and whittle them down?

QUESTION 4: An OTFer with just 8 posts to his name asked us in August if we have ever been *what*, leading to widespread confusion on the forum? CLUE: pretty sure it's not a real word

Welcome, friends, to THE HARDEST QUESTION OF THE AUGUST ROUND.

On 14/08/2018 at 22:35, Hageneezz said:

Have you ever been lebenziated?

We were looking, of course, for the word Lebenziated. Why? I don't know.

Two of you remembered this and even got the right spelling, which made me happy. A well earned point each to @sebsy and @DB08.

The rest of you, no good I'm afraid. A lot of you went for answers I sadly can't repeat in public, but some notable ones included "Numberwanged", "Covfefe" and, of course, "Bumfanny".

Yes and depending on the amount of ideas I have sometimes yes. I started writing for this year sometime around April.

QUESTION 5: What are these OTF quotes from August describing? "Proof that British comedy is on its arse", "Poor year", "The winner is good, the rest are awful"

We're already onto question 5 - I'm making light work of this aren't I! Time for a funny comedy question, LOL.

On 20/08/2018 at 09:30, ham_aka_stam said:

Dave's Funniest Joke of the Fringe - now in its 11th year - has been won by Liverpool comedian Adam Rowe.

The joke came from his show Undeniable.

Supported by 41% of the public who voted for the award was: "Working at the Jobcentre has to be a tense job - knowing that if you get fired, you still have to come in the next day."

  • "I had a job drilling holes for water - it was well boring" - Leo Kearse
  • "I took out a loan to pay for an exorcism. If I don't pay it back, I'm going to get repossessed" - Olaf Falafel
  • "In my last relationship, I hated being treated like a piece of meat. She was a vegan and refused to touch me" - Daniel Audritt
  • "What do colour blind people do when they are told to eat their greens?" - Flo and Joan
  • "I've got a new job collecting all the jumpers left in the park at the weekends, but it's not easy. They keep moving the goalposts" - Darren Walsh
  • "Trump said he'd build a wall but he hasn't even picked up a brick. He's just another middle-aged man failing on a DIY project" - Justin Moorhouse
  • "I lost a friend after we had an argument about the Tardis. I thought it was a little thing, but it seemed much bigger once we got into it" - Adele Cliff
  • "Why are they calling it Brexit and not The Great British Break Off?" - Alex Edelman
  • "I think love is like central heating. You turn it on before guests arrive and pretend it's like this all the time" - Laura Lex

Well done all the same to @Semi Skilled Milk, @Confused Clarity, @Scott1892, @sebsy, @toon_84, @The_jagster, @mark1985, @Deisler26, @Bliss Seeker, @dafuge and @Sons FC for delivering a point-worthy punchline to this question.

QUESTION 6: In August, Gimpy told us that he thought Rafa Benitez would be a perfect fit in the Westfield branch of what shop, and for a bonus point, why?

The love for Rafa is not strong in these here parts. No fewer than 5 of you included the phrase "fat Spanish waiter" in your answer :Bowen:

The answer was sadly something a little more to do with business than the man's rotundness.

Saw a news announcement this morning on my phone while doing the breakfast run about House of Fraser going into administration.

By the time I got back from the breakfast place and we'd eaten the breakfast, there was a new story saying Sports Direct had now bought the company for £90m.

On 10/08/2018 at 11:01, Gimpy said:

Reckon Rafa will be a great fit at their Westfield branch

We were talking about House of Fraser, with the reason being that Mike Ashley bought it!

Just three correct answers here, but all three of them were good enough for the full two points! @sebsy, @toon_84 and @The_jagster reaping the rewards.

@Confused Clarity actually started this thread and got the question wrong, but avoids losing a point because I didn't mention him in the question. Lucky boy!

QUESTION 7: What did mark1985 post a picture of in the SNAPOFT thread in August, that lead multiple OTFers to congratulate him?

Did you know that @mark1985 moved to the US this year?

It seems a few of you do, but unfortunately he did not post a photo of his green card, as you suggest.

He done a wedding! Look at that pretty face! Mark looks alright too.

Catching the bouquet of points here were @Scott1892, @sebsy, @The_jagster, @mark1985, @Deisler26, @bestbrother, @dafuge, @HawkAussie, @The Rebel MC and @georginho_juventusygr.

@KF1990 and @Mr_Demus with the most regrettable answers of "a big poo" and "an above average penis" on this question. Dirty boys!

QUESTION 8: What did toon_84's son say to him in August that means Top Gear is now banned in his house?

BREAKING NEWS - @sebsy got this question wrong!! Again he goes wrong in spectacular style - I can confirm that toon's son did not say that "Matt LeBlanc is a hot piece of ass".

My son was playing with his hot wheels before.

He crashed one and said "oh cock"

Top Gear is now banned in our house :(

He did in fact use Captain Slow's signature catchphrase - Oh cock!

@Semi Skilled Milk, @toon_84 and @dafuge are the stars who may or may not have reasonably priced cars in this question, with one point each.

QUESTION 9: What did Denmark controversially ban in August, issuing the first fine for somebody defying the ban a few days later?

To those of you who say I don't pay attention to complaints, I present Exhibit A - a question specifically designed to address the concerns of @Mr_Demus at the lack of Denmarkness in this big fat quiz.

This was all about Denmark's ban of the full face veil!

Nobody spoke about this on OTF, effectively making the question illegal to place in this quiz....

... moving right along, congratulations to @Semi Skilled Milk, @Confused Clarity, @sebsy, @Deisler26, @Bliss Seeker, @Sons FC, @DB08, @KF1990, @Mr_Demus from Denmark and @georginho_juventusygr for getting this one spot on.

@mark1985 with the most interesting answer in this round, he thought that Denmark had banned Holland. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

QUESTION 10: Mark H suggested the following for somebody's bio on what service? "Author. Dreamweaver. Visionary. Plus actor". For a bonus point, what is this a reference to, which I particularly enjoyed?

Alright, time to come clean. This happened in July, but as you will see in the quotes below, I posted about how I enjoyed the whole thing in August. So it counts!

1 point: @toon_84, @mark1985, @Bliss Seeker, @bestbrother, @Sons FC, @KF1990, @Mr_Demus, @Ackter

For avoidance of doubt, I accepted most common online dating app things as correct, because I'm not a ****ing bastard alright.

Holy crap August answers ended! I guess that means I have to sort the leaderboard, which is coming riiiiight up.

LEADERBOARD AFTER AUGUST:

rufDqYT.png

For the first time in this year's quiz, defending champion and apparent font of all OTF knowledge @sebsy has taken a lead, although it's a slim one and @Confused Clarity still lingers a mere two points behind. @Scott1892 is still very much right up there too. All to play for with just 4 rounds to go.

In the peloton, a strong August showing from @Semi Skilled Milk edges him ahead of @Bliss Seeker.

ACHTUNG, DAS SEPTEMBER QUESTIONS VILL FOLLOW SHORTLY.

September is here, and we're getting really rather recent now as another year draws mercilessly to a close. Several multiple point questions here that may just well mix things up on the leaderboard. Here ya go!

Round 9 - SEPTEMBER

1. In September, what 3 items did @Neil Brock tell us were in his garden? Point for each!

2. A popular thread in September was about a viral boycott of what major brand? For a bonus point, why did the boycott start?

3. @Barry Cartman asked us in September if, because of excessive extra charges, there was a more scummy company than what?

4. What did a bus driver do in September that lead to a debate on OTF as to whether he should have done it?

5. Despite being criticised for posting a frankly bizarre video on Instagram, what celebrity did @georginho_juventusygr describe in September as "still fit"?

6. What happened to Katie Hopkins in September that I described as "fantastic news"?

7. What "huge technological breakthrough" did the BBC achieve in September that @Barry Cartman said was "too ****ing late now"?

8. What was the subject of the OTF thread in September where the following comments were posted? "REDACTED", "REDACTED", "REDACTED", "REDACTED".

9. Which sporting pair "won the Internet", according to @Mr Adam, after posting a Twitter video in bed together with the trophy they had just won in September? One point for the name of the sporting pair, one point for the name of the trophy they had won

10. What was @akura complaining about in September that lead @mark1985 to respond saying "there's me thinking he just made rice based snacks"?

Your September deadline is at 7pm on Sunday 23 December. Good luck!

I think it has something to do with his current points tally.

A note on these CRAZY ALLEGATIONS, I have been using my secret methods to look for cheating throughout the megaquiz, and have yet to see anything I could remotely construe as naughty behaviour. The leaders just must have large brains!
