Hi Guys,

Been scrolling through this as im looking for a laptop and im not too sure what to go for! Looking at a budget of about £600-900 for a laptop. Mainly play FM so looking for something that will run nice and quick/smooth with a decent database! Seen a few suggested on here as well as online and wondering if anyone had any recommendations for my budget?

Cheers!

You could up the RAM to 16gb but not crucial at the moment.

I should upgrade ram16 or 32gb ??

The only thing you can do is reduce the settings for the 3D match.

Or buy an eGPU - https://www.macworld.co.uk/feature/mac/best-egpu-mac-3673105/

Thanks Smurf! Looks good. If the budget was to stretch to £1000, is there much improvement that can be found to the one you have linked me?

RAM won't increase your 3D match settings.

£2,000 Pc or Mac could be better for FM?

This is on PC Specialist - and would be whopper for FM. It would be a desktop replacement. You'd need to contact PC specialist to get things like weight of product etc. for example if portability was an issue you may want to know if this weighs a lot because you have to carry it about.

I can't get a MacBook even close to those specs or that price - the PC Specialist is the best value for money on a Windows PC.

Let me know if the above suggestion is ok for you - or if you want to look at other laptops/pcs - for example smaller screen etc.

I'm a graphic designer too - and I use a PC as they are much cheaper - but there can be cross platform issues with fonts, but workable and I have no issues on PC. Much better spec than a Mac for much cheaper price.

If there's specific Mac only applications you use - that's fair enough. But all of Adobe Creative Cloud works cross platform.

This is the cheapest MacBook - a 16 inch screen https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/16-inch-space-grey-2.6ghz-6-core-processor-512gb#

And it's nowhere near as good.

It's up to yourself.

And if you want a smaller screen - https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/13-inch-space-grey-2.0ghz-quad-core-processor-with-turbo-boost-up-to-3.8ghz-512gb#

Again nowhere near as good.

I don't have much idea, but I've been looking to build it:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3100

GPU: ASUS GeForce GT 1030 2GB GDDR5

RAM: 16Gb (2X8Gb) G.SKILL Flare X Black 3200Mhz CL16

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B450M-A

Can this build have years of FM?

Thanks!

Thank you - I made a serious error in the background lately, which I've spoken to @FrazT about.

I know I made a mistake and as such it's time for me to take a break. I've committed mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends to the thread and it's become so time consuming.

Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the wonderful forums, and I  hope I didn't damage the reputation of the forum, a serious error on my part.

Apologies to all - I'm livid with myself.

Goodbye, and thanks.

That'd run FM fine, yea, though depending on what your budget is, you might be able to make one that's better. What is your budget? Also, I take it you already have a monitor, keyboard, etc?

Is it worth getting a desktop with a 9100f and 1650 or 3200G with a 1650. Or is getting a laptop with a Ryzen 4500u better? I know it got intregated graphics but they are good enough for fm. Just need to know which cpu is best?

I'll add though thats not the whole picture as comparing different class CPU's over a longer period is tricky the 4500U is a low power processor so althoguh the quickest it will also be the most likely to throttle performance due to overheating

Other caveat is generally the single threaded performance is the key for FM which is much closer between the three.

Perosnally I'm more of a desktop person, but really it depends what you want, I wouldn't expect vast differences between the 3 options.

Hi guys I’m looking to buy a laptop to last me the next few new additions of FM.

My budget is 300-400 as I only use it for FM

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124334080277

Just wondering if this is good for money?

Is there something closer to £300 that would run the next few new fms?

For example there is this, I understand it’s worse but will it run FM good and the next couple future ones?

Spent a lot of time looking at all the different options and narrowed it down to a few. Games wise I only use my laptop for FM.

Which of the following would be the best?

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help. Looking to buy a laptop that is capable of running FM 20 comfortably with at least 5 leagues. My preferences was a 2-1 laptop as I would also like the option of having a tablet for reading etc, but not essential.

I was looking at this one https://www.currys.ie/ieen/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-x360-14-2-in-1-laptop-intel-core-i7-512-gb-ssd-silver-10208066-pdt.html

Budget is €800-€1300 (Based in Ireland but can order in most cases from the UK). Would i be safer saving some cash and just going for a Gaming laptop?

Thanks for your time. J

I'd go with a gaming laptop, as whilst the processor is decent enough on that 2-in-1, it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card which will limit you in how good the matches will look.

I'd suggest something like this instead: https://www.currys.ie/ieen/computing/laptops/laptops/asus-tuf-fx505dt-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-512-gb-ssd-10205615-pdt.html

Cheaper, the processor base and turbo speeds are faster, and it has a decent dedicated graphics card. It has less RAM, but RAM isn't as important for FM as single-core processor speed. It'll be capable of running at least 5 leagues easily.

Been dithering for months over this - but want a new laptop for when FM21 comes.

Play on 2D Classic so not worried about graphics (but do want at least FHD so I don’t have to scroll on profiles and can watch Netflix etc)

Anything better in the price bracket than this?

Read one or two reviews that say it’s pricey for its spec

If you're able to get it, I'd suggest this one: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-predator-triton-300-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-gtx-1660-ti-1-tb-ssd-10205671-pdt.html

Same price, but has an extra 1TB HDD so you'll have plenty of storage space on it.

Otherwise, I could suggest this one, which has a larger screen: https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Tracer-IV-17-Extreme-300

Or this one - the processor is one notch down, but you'd barely notice it, and it has a 1TB SSD and a much better graphics card: https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Tracer-III-Evo-400

I have narrowed my choices down now. Would this be an overkill for mainly just playing FM on and other normal laptop stuff?

https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/lenovo-legion-5-15arh05-amd-ryzen-5-4600h-8gb-512gb-ssd-15.6-inch-fhd-144hz-82b5000cuk/version.asp

If FM is the only game you play, then it probably is overkill as FM doesn't really need a dedicated graphics card.

If you want that specific CPU though, this one is specced pretty much identically, aside from the graphics card being the next model down and is over £100 less.  It looks like the display is a lower refresh rate, but if you're not playing FPS games that is unlikely to make a difference to you.  If you do play FPS games competitively, then go for the one with the higher refresh rate.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah ideally i want that CPU or Ryzen 7, but the 7's are over what i want to pay & the 4600H performs really well according to the benchmark link from the 1st page. The one you linked, as you say doesnt have as good as display and it only has 256SSD, ideally i want at least 512SSD. What do you think to the Acer  Nitro 5?

I'd call that very good indeed.  I must admit I had totally missed the smaller SSD on the other one, so apologies.

I have a laptop with an older generation Ryzen 5 (the 2500u) without a dedicated graphics card and even that runs FM very nicely, so there's no reason to doubt this will do a great job, and it will play most other games to a decent standard too.
