I don't really play any other games. Only thing I can think of is the fans are blocked with dust, you can buy a can of compressed air and blow the vents with it.

Try to get a laptop cooler too if you can - it would be highly recommended as not only does it help keep the laptop cool but keeps it elevated so not to suck in dust from couches/carpets/beds/even coffee tables or anything else that may be sitting on.

Other things to do is to update your drivers for your graphcis card follow directions here https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

You can also check to see if your bios needs updating - https://www.asus.com/us/support/warranty-status-inquiry/

You will find your serial number ona  label under the computer as a sticker on the base.

There's a few ways to find it https://www.asus.com/us/support/Article/566

Excellent I’ll give it a try.

thanks again for your help mate

Hi, looking at the top one and the 3rd the specs all seem the same except one.

the 1st laptop (£599) has a processor number 8250U, where as the 3rd laptop (£639) has a processor number 8300H.

would you say this difference in processor is significant in upping my budget 40 quid or is there anything else about the 3rd laptop that makes it better than the 1st? Thanks.

I'd say it's worth it, yes. The U grade processors are usually not as high performing for high use processes like games, and are more likely to throttle (meaning reduce their speed because they're not designed to run at full speed for long periods of time and at higher temperatures).

The 8300H processor is faster anyway, and will likely run better for strenuous processes, like playing FM for a few hours.

Hi all, bit of advice needed on a laptop.. I have the following laptop which ran FM great

https://ao.com/product/fx504gde4603t-asus-laptop-black-59430-251.aspx

however the laptops ran into some issues and I've lost faith in it.. looking to exchange and the following laptop works price wise, improvement in having an SSD (I understand this doesn't impact on FM gameplay) however downgrade on processor with i5-7300hq from i5-8300h - I have very little knowledge tech wise, will the difference be noticeable or is that very unlikely? Otherwise they appear identical to me but would appreciate any info if the below laptop seems noticeably inferior.

There's a bit of a drop in processor ability from the 8300H to the 7300HQ - if the processor is running at full speed, there's about a 12.5% speed difference, and the 8300H can deal with loads better due to having a larger cache memory size. If you're able to get the laptop with the 8300H, I would do as a preference, because it's not too difficult to add an M2 type SSD hard drive to the ASUS FX504 if you want one.

Anyone played FM19 on the Surface Pro 6? Wondering how it played?

Depending on the model, it'll run FM19, but the match engine won't run the best due to only having integrated graphics, rather than a dedicated graphics card, so you'd need to run the match engine on low performance most likely.

Hi all,

Smurf, thanks very much for your help earlier on in this thread re: a suitable laptop for FM. I’ve had a think and have a couple of questions for you, Jordan, or whoever is willing to help!

The attached 2 laptops are currently top of my list. The Medion has more Ram and a bigger screen. The MSI has a better CPU (according to the CPU link in your opening post it is 27th whereas the Medion is 141st) and an SSD.

I am looking to play FM and also I will be using the laptop for work, moving files around both locally and on sharepoint as well as using office applications/browsers. I’m not too sure as to how much better the processor is on the MSI and whether it’s worth the offset to get more Ram. 27th vs 141st seems a lot but given it’s an 8th gen i7, I’m not sure if it’s that far behind. Furthermore whilst SSD isn’t important for FM, I understand it makes things faster if saving and moving files around away from FM (i.e. for my work purposes) ? My friend recommended getting 16gig of ram but the above points are making me feel the MSI may be a better shout.

Secondly, I’m conscious that the only game I’ll really play is FM so the amount added in cost for a dedicated graphics card seems quite steep. However if I want to play 3D it seems necessary. Will a Graphics Card make any of the game faster/smoother other than the match engine?

Thanks very much in advance!

Hi Guys,

Top thread here!

I have been looking into what laptops I will be able to get. I currently do not have one and will be looking to get on for solely using with FM. I am not a massive user of the 3D match engine so graphics are not top of my list.

Have seen the following laptops are you able to offer any advice, options or alternatives? These would be the top end of my budget.

It's not great - but what's quick for you? How many leagues/divisions/database size do you want to run?

Anywhere else you can buy from besides Harvey Norman?

Small data base is alright for me and not looking to run more that 3 playable leagues. I dont mind turning the detail down  Just want the processing time between days to be quick.  Not too fused about match engine graphics.

Not tied to Harvey Norman but I can get a discount there through work.

Any recommendations are welcome even above budget thanks again.

Could buy from Currys as well.

Hi -

Had my eye on an i7-8750H, 8GB RAM, 4GB GTX1050ti and 128GB SSD laptop for £799 for a while now. Think some others in this thread went ahead and bought the laptop. It's now at £899 and I'm happy to wait for discount again.

However, just noticed an i5-8300H, 8GB RAM, 6GB GTX1060 and 256GB SSD for £799.

Given that there's not a lot of difference between the 8750H and the 8300H, and there is between the 1050ti and 1060, would you recommend going for the i5/1060 over the i7/1050ti, even if FM relies more on the CPU rather than the GPU?

I'm looking to future proof the laptop for 5 years or so. It'll mostly be used for FM, but also streaming, excel work and maybe some other gaming (although I have no idea what yet, if at all).

Thanks in advance. :)

I'd go with the 8300h and the 1060 6gb

256gb hard drive is a bit small - but you could add to this over the years.

Thanks for the quick response -

It's this laptop: https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX504GM-EN151T-ASUS-FX504GM-EN151T-Gaming-Laptop_2344468.html

So has a HDD as well as the SDD.

Seems like decent value to me anyway, as long as it can run 8 FM leagues on at least medium DB.

Having read some reviews of the ASUS FX504 it seems like it suffers from throttling due to poor cooling. Might have to take a raincheck on that one after all. :(

I've read mixed reviews, most say plays battlefield and other games at good FPS - so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

You're paying £800 - I know it seems like a lot - but relatively it's cheap for what you're getting.

It's actually on their site twice - higher one more expensive for extra RAM - so you're doing well at 799.

Anything on the same specs is coming in at £1200 for a different maker.

Hi @Smurf (and whoever else who may be able to help who knows something about laptops),

I have spent the last three days looking at the laptop that best suits my needs. I only require the laptop for occasional surfing, occasional work, and FM19. I have set a budget of £900 for a good quality laptop with an I7 processor, 8GB memory and graphics card which I believe will do me just fine.

I have narrowed it down to the following five- which do you think is best (in ranking order) ?

1) https://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-14-ce0505sa-14-intel-core-i7-laptop-256-gb-ssd-silver-10180942-pdt.html

There is one more I have forgotten which I will also try and send over.

Thanks in advance

The website might be out of stock - but my experience of PC World/Currys is that the website is not always up to date with what's in stock.

You might be better off printing off this computer and visit various stores to see if any have it - talk to the manager - my experience in this is vast and had a recent experience in this area - and only speaking to the manager was I able to get someone to check the stock in the stock room which had the computer I was looking for but it was out of stock on their system.

I'd definitely get the MSI one, @scholesisking22. Upgrading or adding additional RAM is doable with a laptop, where as you can't really upgrade the processor, so if you wanted 16GB RAM in the future, it wouldn't be that difficult to add to the existing 8GB.

Thanks very much Smurf. I’ve ordered it. Noticed you liked the Asus Maxi brought up too which has a better graphics card. If only playing FM, will the graphics card only affect 3D match engine smoothness or something more?

Maxi, if you did want the MSI you were previously looking at, I ordered it for £806 from Debenhams Plus today. It sounds like you’re not in a rush and will scout around but thought I’d let you know :)

It's not that I like it - it just fits in the price range and has good specs. Adding a graphics card of any sort can help with the CPU as it has less calls to the CPU, it won't increase the performance, but with less calls (processing) it could keep it cooler and by that alone a cooler processor would be more efficient.

The 1060 graphics card is just better, and if you want to future proof the i5 8300H is new and the 1060 6gb is a good graphics card - and in terms of the i7 8750H the single core processing is relatively similar - so for FM that's key and the i5 is sufficient enough to run FM anyway.

Of course though, you should always go for the best processor you can afford, and this is just the case as it is today.

Hi everyone,

Im on the edge of buying a new laptop and was wondering if it will run fm 2019 smoothly. The reason I buy this laptop is because Im used to working with os and dont mind spending the extra ‘useless’ money on it.  The only game I actually want to play on this laptop are the fm games. For other games I will use my console.

Appreciate your advice and help

Specs

2.6GHz 6-Core Processor
512 GB Storage

  • 2.6GHz 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor
  • Turbo Boost up to 4.3GHz
  • Radeon Pro 560X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory
  • 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 memory
  • 512GB SSD storage1

I can also change the 560x video card for the vega 20 video card for an extra price, however if its not necessary I rather not.

Again I dont really care about any other games than fm 19 and hopefully it will be able to run fm 20 smoothly aswell in the future.

With kind regards,

Jeff

I'd go for that laptop. No need for the Vega 20 card for FM.

Yeah but without a graphics card, I’ve been checking. 😞

Is there a good cheap laptop that anyone is using at the moment that does the job well. I’ve always used a desktop but want to change and experience fm with a laptop but don’t want to spend silly amount of money.

Ok ,a new question. My laptop is 6 gb ram , intel hd graphic 4000 and intel core i3 2500 mhz. Is it normal to lag when i play fm touch 19 (i dont have the same problem when i play fm touch 17 though) , for example when clicking on things. I dont load much leagues and game speed is 3 and a half stars. Is it normal or i should check something on my pc to reduce it?

Is it normal to lag when i play fm touch 19 (i dont have the same problem when i play fm touch 17 though) , for example when clicking on things. I dont load much leagues and game speed is 3 and a half stars. Is it normal or i should check something on my pc to reduce it?

It might be because the laptop's integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphic 4000) is quite poor for any game, and the i3-3120M processor is a low level, 7 year old dual-core processor that isn't designed for games, so I'd expect there to be some lagging due to the game taking time to bring up data due to bottlenecks in the hardware. I don't think there's anything you'd be able to do about that other than a new laptop.

Before midnight tonight I will probably be buying a Lenovo Legion Y730, i5-8300H, 16GB Ram 2666hz, 256SSD/1TB 7200rpm HDD, GTX 1050ti 4GB , 144hz 1080p, G-Sync screen.

Will this be good, very good or excellent for FM 19?

Aye, that should run FM19 very nicely.

Hi,

Is this a good laptop for playing FM19 on high settings/large database (journeyman):

Getting one with a newer i7-8750H processor would allow for better performance due to higher processor speeds, but yea, that's not a bad laptop, it'd manage high settings and a decent size database.
