Looking at an iMac (Below) for the first time. I like to play with a lot of leagues loaded and a large database, would this iMac be able to cope with this? I’ve seen some comments about iMacs overheating etc so if anyone has any experience of playing FM on an iMac I’d like to hear your views.

Also, I assume I’ll be able to convert previous saves over from my laptop using a memory stick?

thanks

Converting saves is fine via memory stick - simply copy them over and they will work.

The processor is not great - ranked 258 in this list https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html

It's the i3-8100.

Do you have to buy an iMac?

Hey

Looking for some advice.

Thinking of getting a new laptop. Want to run as many leagues as I can for a price between £500 and £750.

Any recommendations?

I'd reckon you'd need to upgrade the hard drive to a larger size - but should be very good for a while..

Hi,

Probably going to look at getting a new PC over the summer.

My current desktop is close to 10 years old and was pretty decent at the time but struggles a little now.

Bit stuck though - I'm not sure if I should look at a laptop instead.

Back when I got my current desktop you got miles more bang for your buck if you went for a desktop over a laptop - is this still the case? - or can you get similar specs on both laptop and desktop for the same money?

Probably looking to spend £800 max and use for FM (and the other strategy game) and a bit of photo editing.

You'd get better value from a desktop - plus upgrades are easier and cheaper.

Desktops tend to be more powerful.

Do you want a desktop or laptop? If a desktop, do you need a monitor/keyboard/mouse with it?

Will go for a desktop in that case.

Yeah I'd get a new monitor - current one I have works fine but it's 15 years old now so no point investing in a new system and still running it on that. It doesn't even have HDMI connection I don't think.

Mice and keyboard I have.

Anyone know why Box refuse to price match Currys PC World?

Also what difference does it make selling to a the Public a PC on a Business website to a retail website? Currys terms & conditions aren't applicable if I buy of their Business site.

Depends on the specs. But Razor laptops are very good game machines.

However, FM isn't a typical game.

Most games need a mid-ish processor and a mid-high end graphics card.

FM needs a very good processor and a low-mid range graphics card.

I have no idea why - you would need to ask them.

Does steam and other game sites automatically upgrade your settings once you transfer your games to an upgraded laptop or will I need to do something myself for it to happen?

I don't know if they do - if the graphic settings are set to Auto then it would obviously automatically try and match your settings to your specs.

But I honeslty don't know.

Seen this online seems a good price, what are peoples thoughts?

https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=133W8EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB

Would the following also be good or not a big enough jump in performance to justify the price difference (this was the most I was looking to spend)

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/asus-tuf-blue-a15-15-6-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-gtx-1660-ti-512-gb-ssd-10205355-pdt.html

Bearing in mind my current laptop is an I5 5200u with 8gb RAM and integrated graphics

Thanks in advance for any advice.

That's a well balanced system for FM. Probably you won't find anything better at the pricepoint. I don't know how good HP's cooling solution, screen etc is so I would suggest checking some reviews.

I’ve been offered this lap top at a very good price. I play FM with Which ever league I’m starting in down to lowest level then top leagues of Spain, Italy and Germany. I very rarely use 3D match. Would this run FM at a ok to good level?

Most can run all leagues. But it might run slow.

Its a good spec. But i dont think having all leagues loaded on that spec would be fast as you like.

It can certainly do a good few.

Or are there better options with a top price of £1000. although if i don't need to spend that much to get a decent spec even better.

The budget has gone up to £500. The bottom one looks decent to me. The second was recommended a while back. Anybody any opinions?

The second one will run FM faster but the other two have better integrated graphics.

Read some reviews. To find the right ones, copy the model number (of the laptop) from the product page and the google it with "review" added. Decent reviewers will include the model number in their review. Personally I don't think the 4800h laptops are giving you enough more performance (other things being equal) to justify the extra price, but that's usually the case when you get to higher tier tech I guess. Look out in the reviews for comments about build quality, the screen, thermal performance, noise and battery life. If these areas are better it would help to justify the higher asking prices.

Thanks for you advice, think it might be best to go for the cheaper one you thought was a good balanced one for the price.

so it's a just the CPU for under 500 then?  What country are you based in?

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X - For great multi core capability

Intel Core i7-10700K - For pure FM brute force

@Cadoni If it's the whole PC you're talking about you may need to be more modest in your expectations. A system with a 10th gen i3 or a Ryzen 3 3200g should be possible.

I’ve got a feeling he means 500 for the whole system too

Was just talking about the 3 3200g on the benchmarking thread, seems outrageous value at 75 quid

Hi all,

I’ve won an Apple Macbook Pro at work and want to use it to play FM20.

Its this version;

https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/13-inch-space-grey-1.4ghz-quad-core-processor-with-turbo-boost-up-to-3.9ghz-512gb#

Will this run the game well or am I better off selling it and buying a different brand?

Wow, great prize! If you could get anything like the retail price for it you could get a much better windows laptop though. I have a similarly spec'd laptop (albeit Windows) and it's good for six or seven leagues at most. Ryzen 4000 based gaming laptops start around the £800 mark and would run rings around this.

AMD are due to release their next gen APUs (ie replacing the likes of the 3200g) in the next few weeks, so might be worth waiting? Unlikely to be priced that low though.

Building for a friend and I think he wants to move pretty quick on it to use during what’s left of lockdown.

I’ll try to get a sneaky benchmark on it before I hand it over :brock:

Never built with AMD parts before so you never know it may pull me over to the red side

Hello all,

Looking to upgrade my 5 year old laptop, generally used for FM/browsing/streaming, budget is in the 600-750 bracket, and these are the two I've noticed:

Is https://www.box.co.uk/9S7-16R412-049-MSI-GF63-Thin_2934806.html £150 better than https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-nitro-5-an515-54-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-256-gb-ssd-10205925-pdt.html ?

For FM, I'd like to run half a dozen nations/12-15 leagues, with medium-high graphics at least.

Yes. The only aspect in which FM is demanding is processor (if you have many leagues loaded)

If you want to go overkill the Intel i9 tops our FM performance chart but at a large cost

The below is with all leagues loaded and run for a week of in game time
