Better processor mostly - small upgrade in the graphics card.

Hey guys, i dont know much about laptops and computers but i just got a intel core i7-4600m cpu @ 2.90ghz 8gb ram. I want to run all top leagues on a large database. On my laptop when i load them up it gives me a 5 star performance rating with a 3 star performance game speed (threshold changes from 3.5 star to 3 around 47,000 players) . I want to run around 70,000 players but i dont want my laptop to slow down after 2 seasons. i haven't started on this laptop but i know how it was on my other one. What would you guys suggest i get so i can run my preferred load out. I dont care about graphics i dont run 3d. Thank you.

Is the MX 250 graphics card sufficient to play 3D? I would think so, I have some kind of integrated intel graphics now (4000 or something) and it runs, although very poorly. Will the MX 250 be noticeably better?

Guys,

I've won a £500 gift voucher for Currys PC World, looking to get myself a laptop for up to this amount to run FM20 , Any advise ? :)

Congrats - pretty sweet!

Any chance you can put another £100 to it? https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-nitro-5-an515-54-intel-core-i5-gtx-1050-gaming-laptop-512-gb-ssd-10199732-pdt.htmlhttps://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-nitro-5-an515-54-intel-core-i5-gtx-1050-gaming-laptop-512-gb-ssd-10199732-pdt.html

Its out of stock, don't know if I want to push my luck with the Mrs about adding more cash to it.

Just wanted a cheapish laptop to play the game when I'm away with work. I've had a look at PC World/Currys website what about this ? Not really up on laptops so any advice would be fantastic :)

Sometimes the websites say they're out of stock - but they have them in store - I found that with them - and what they say is in stock is out of stock in store. I had to go to about 5 different stores one day to find the laptop I had found online.

Anyway - did a bit of reasearch based on £500 and found this

As you can see the one I've linked to has a higher ranked processor - which is key for FM.

Hey mate, thanks again for this. Defo should have read the opening post in more detail, this has been a really useful tool. I haven't been able to find anything better than what you've suggested (although this one from Currys that you shared on this page seems a contender). I was a little worried about going from a 256gb SSD to a 128gb SSD but this doesn't seem to be too much of an issue given the better processor. I'm more worried about buying from box.co.uk as Scan have got so many more positive reviews, but I think I'm gonna try and make a decision within the next two days. I need to stop umm'ing and aah'ing! Thanks again!

Dont worry about stuff like that. I read a review for a hotel before and the guest gave a 1 star rating because he didnt see the lake from his room...he arrived at midnight during heavy fog.

That should work no problem, but before you jump into anything what specs are the desktop you currently have?  It may be that your desktop is fine.

Hey,

looking for a new laptop, my budget is around £1k (ideally less!).

i like to load 10-15 leagues and have a decent run speed.

ideally the Laptop will be small and light with a decent battery. Any recommendations

First narrow down your search to laptops which have i7 processor and 16gb RAM. After that narrow down by battery life and SSD Size.

In that case I'd agree an update is probably a wise idea for the sort of game you're looking to run!

That should be more than capable of running 5 nations.  I wouldn't pay too much attention to the star ratings as these can be a bit wonky, but if you are actually having issues with speed of processing, maybe do some malware scans or diagnostic checks to ensure your machine is not being slowed down by malware or hardware issues.

That said, it does only have 4GB RAM which isn't really ideal.

Hey guys

Question from down under

Looking to buy a new laptop and want to play fm20 on it. Can't go to high end. FM would be the only process hungry thing i would run on it. Rest would be streaming, browsing, etc

I think I can get the below specs in my price range

Intel i5 8th gen or higher or Ryzen 5 2nd gen at least 2ghz.

8gb ram

SSD

I found the below which fit into my range during a quick look. I'd usually want to run the top leagues in england and A-League. Maybe asia if it allowed. But focus would be europe.

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/dell-inspiron-15-3000-15-6-laptop-ryzen5

Im fairly unsure around processor speeds especially when it come to base and turbo boost

Cheers

Not the best processor at all - but will work.

Any chance you could save a bit more and you could really get something a lot better?

Got more important things to spend money on than a game, cheers tho

As I alluded to, the computer you have picked out is probably the best you're going to get for that money.

If you want a better computer for a better FM experience it is going to cost more money.

Thanks. That first ones processor is only 1ghz. will that be enough?

Will all of them run it well enough?

To be fair I don't know - it's a pretty new processor and probably untested for FM.

I based it on their rankings firtly it's ranked higher here

compare.thumb.PNG.8d4f063d1dfbfc69deafcd12024c97c1.PNG

Then 2ndly on their single core rating (as a lot of FM is processed in the single core)

527982816_SingleCore.thumb.PNG.2276686d9cca2a7689be0232247002f0.PNG

And the CPU rating is higher.

If you want to play it safe then the Ryzen 5 has the higher base speed but scores the lowest.

Seen this, any good to play it?

Cheers again

In that case how important is it to look at the base speed compared to the maximum speed?

The i5 is ranked well enough but concerned about the base speed. But the max speed well exceeds min requirements

I've always tried to match the base speed as close as possible to the minimum requirements for the game - instead of the turbo speed.

Truth is I wouldn't be 100% sure how  important the base speed plays in FM. But I know that single core performance is important and again it is ranking quite high.

Perhaps @EdL can shed some more light on this.
