Whats everyone's thoughts on either the honor magicbook pro  ( ryzen 5 4600h, 16gb ram ) or the huwawei matebook ( ryzen 7h 16gb ram )

More the capable of running fm to a decent standard right?

Depends what ryzen 7h processor is in the huwaei. Have you got links to both?

They're all the same - more or less, one is a 17 inch screen, and the other is 15 inch. And the other has a slightly lesser graphics card.

I didn't look at them too closely as you can get better

Hi guys

I'm looking for a laptop to play football manager and just do general browsing. Not much else. My max budget would be around 500. Is there anything I could get for this budget which would run the game OK? Thanks

It would be low-medium end laptop at that price, possibly better if you saved 100 quid more.

Hey everyone,

I'd like to ask what is the maximum graphics detail level (without any lags on 3D match view) for FM20 on MacBook Pro 13" and 16" (e.g. AMD Radeon Pro 5300M)? Could you, MacBook Pro owners, enlighten me?

Thanks in advance.

It's going to depend on what 13inch and 16 inch models it is - and also what year the Mac is.

The AMD Radeon Pro 5300m gives similar performance to the Nvidia GTX 1650.

Which both should be able to play 3D matches on mid-high level graphics.

They both fall in the mid-range category - which is more than enough for FM. Of course, each user experience will differ and adjust the settings to your likings or with as much/little lag as you see fit.

Hi all,

Laptop has died. Havent really played since FM16 but want to get back involved this year. I tend to only run 5/6 nations at once but on a large database if possible.

Is this laptop appropriate? Ideally dont want to spend much more than this.

Laptop....

Thanks!

Hello,

I am looking to buy a new laptop in the next month or so. I don't have a specific budget in mind, however I have found a few around the £700-750 mark which appear to be decent.

https://www.box.co.uk/82B50042UK-Lenovo-Legion-5-15_2938438.html

https://www.box.co.uk/1L6F6EAABU-HP-Pavilion-Gaming-15-ec1007na_2958258.html

Of these, the Lenovo (£750) and HP (£700) appear pretty much the same in terms of graphics and CPU, and both seem to have a better CPU than the first HP (£750).

Do these laptops appear to be fairly priced and am I correct in thinking that the HP priced at £700 is the best deal?

Looking at buying a second hand notebook from cex specs are

I will only play 2d and would want around 8 to 10 nations with all leagues playable, do you think this will run fm21?

It would likely run FM21 assuming the requirements are similar,  and will have no issue displaying in 2D, but you may possibly find the processing to be a little on the slower side with that many nations.  What sort of price are you paying for that?

If you don't play any other games, then to be honest those laptops are overkill.

This will play FM quickly, the integrated graphics should be strong enough to render 3D matches in high settings:

 Hi Kev,

That laptop in the second link, will run FM nicely? I’m after a new laptop and this fits my budget nicely. I don’t tend to run more than 6/7 nations at a time but like to have most leagues running if possible and a good level of data. I haven’t played properly since FM 16 so just checking before I buy a new one 👍

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

Hoping for some help with buying a new laptop

FM is the only game I’ll ever buy. Other than that will just be internet browsing. So not looking for a gaming laptop and nothing too heavy, but I'd want a min 14 or 15" display.

My budget is £500, could possibly stretch to ones priced £600 as certain brands/retailers have student discount.

On FM20 I ran 4-5 nations with large database (3D match engine) and would like to do similar for FM21 & beyond or with a couple more nations running. My current laptop is 6 years old so has struggled with this on FM20 as I built up a long save during lockdown.

Any recommendations for what specs I would need or a particular laptop they'd recommend? From what I've seen so far then an integrated graphics card should be fine, as would 8GB RAM as I can't see any 16GB in my budget where I've looked so far. But when it comes to Processer/Hard Drive I'm a bit overwhelmed.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I have the Lenovo V110-15AST, I got this a bit cheaper a couple of years ago and it’s been pretty slow pretty much since I bought it so I stumbled across this thread to see about getting a new one.

However based on its specs

It appears to be a good laptop, 8GB RAM, AMD-A9-9420 RADEON R5 processor.

I generally want to run about 10 leagues (usually all bar 2 are read only) and it runs incredibly slow and gets even slower as the game goes on.

Can anyone explain why this laptop isn’t performing? I did buy it for circa £350 IIRC in fairness.

Looking to replace it for circa £600-700, any recommendations would be great but would need to be on significantly better than this one.

Appreciate the help

Yes! and cheaply ... easiest way is to go to crucial website and use their checker.. it will tell you exactly what you need and what you can get... ideally you will want to match the ram you already have though, so yeah. 8gb is definitely a bottleneck at this point and almost certainly will be for fm21.

Its still going very slowly unfortunately. I will head over to crucial and try and buy some more ram. Thanks

The processor is quite weak - that's the problem. That sort of processor is only good for light work, websites, email, general word processing, video playback etc. It would struggle with any processing tasks, like Football manager.

I would recommend this as a serious upgrade to what you have

Cheers, that makes sense, never realised it wasn’t the best processor.

Will probably plump for that one.

Hi Smurf,

I've narrowed these down to the £700 HP (https://www.box.co.uk/1L6F6EAABU-HP-Pavilion-Gaming-15-ec1007na_2958258.html) based on the CPU, graphics card and seemingly reasonable price. I can stretch my budget to £800-850 if there would be any tangible benefit to doing so, however the laptops I can find for this price appear to be either equal or inferior to the HP. Am I missing something in relation to the HP and are there any laptops priced at c.£800 which would be a better option?

Been looking at laptops recently for the new FM, always fancied an XPS and find myself coming back to them... Wondering if an i-7 processor such as this one will have enough juice for the new game and most likely FM22;

I seen there are “10th Generation” processors but they drive up the price dramatically and are way outside my budget.

Looking at that laptop is it likely to have enough juice for next years game too?

Hard to know. It's a decent enough processor - however it is 4 generations behind we are on generation 10 now. But still should be ok.

Adding more RAM probably won't be beneficial. You should be getting better performance.

How many leagues/divisions/players do you load?

Looked at this again - and don't see any reason to increase your budget - you'll get much the same.

You can upgrade the RAM at a later point. It's fine the way it is though.

I wouldn't go for that one @Deansy85

That laptop is not designed for processing, but more around portability.

The process has a base speed of 1.3ghz well below the 2.2ghz required for FM.

This would be better - but pricey https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-envy-15-ep0500na-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i7-512-gb-ssd-silver-10207070-pdt.html
