Jimbokav1971
Unsuccessful job interview. Jun 2023. Amiens have just been relegated from Ligue 1 and invited me to attend an interview. Jimbokav1971
Season expectations. Jul 2023. This seems to suggest that even if we get relegated, (there is a distinct possibility I think), then they won't sack me.
Jimbokav1971
Well I wasn't expecting this. Jul & Aug 2023. Pre-season was like, well, pre-season, and then we won the opening 3 league games on the bounce, scoring 9 goals in the process and conceding 0. I was expecting to struggle this season because I have made no signings, (although there are a few players in on loan at the moment).

I was all set to really just fly through this season and not worry too much about squad selections because I was sure I was going down anyway. Now I'm not so sure. [Edit] It should also be mentioned that they have scored 9 goals in their other 2 games so they are not rubbish up front. Although everyone has scored more against them too. It might be partly explained away by the fact that they had only 3 days rest in comparison to our full week. Not sure why we aren't in the League Cup. (Probably because we weren't playing at this level last season). Edited November 23, 2018 by Jimbokav1971
Jimbokav1971
This is more like what I was expecting. Sep 2023. We might have come crashing back down to Earth again after a miraculous opening month, but for me what is key is that we have scored in every game and when we keep a clean sheet we win. I think that's pretty simple really. We missed club record goal-scorer Romain (BAS) (Bal) HG * for the opening 3 games of the month and then he wasn't fully fit for the Bourg en Bresse which is the only result I have been unhappy with so far this season. I quite like the look of the league table. We have 12 points and after 8 games that gives us a whoppping 8 point gap to the best of the relegation placed teams. The gap is twice as big as the total points they have earned so they are going to have to improve some just to close the gap, and that's without us adding to our tally. turnip
In my experience, the National usually has at least 2 teams who are just utterly awful and 3-5 teams who are just 'bad'. So you just need to be better than 'bad' and you should be fine.
Jimbokav1971
Oct 2023. A second tough month in the league that saw us collect just 1 point from a possible 12. The fact that we won twice in the Cup makes this run of results appear better than they really are.

Jimbokav1971
Nov 2023. 6 points at the start of the month did us the World of good, but while I'm not overly bothered about losing in the Cup, the morale hit might have made the difference in the Schilitgheim game. We are 5 points clear of the drop zone, (after collecting 6 points this month), and you might notice that Tours FC who are directly above us, are on a tremendous run of form having won their last 6 league games after lowing 7 of their opening 9 games, and drawing the other 2. They are on fire. (Does Schiltigheim sound German to anyone else? I wonder where in France it is?) Yep, very close to the German border. Jimbokav1971
Jan 2024. That point at home to QRM was important as it leaves us 3 points ahead of the drop zone. Edited November 24, 2018 by Jimbokav1971
Jimbokav1971
Ridiculous. Jan 2024. This equates to £76,900 + whatever we earn from the friendly + 40% of re-sale value. Brest are 16th in Ligue 2 and (22a) Fabio (Unamb) (2022) * wouldn't seem to be breaking into their 1st Team anytime soon when he has 3(9) league appearances for us, scoring just 1 goal. This is the 2nd transfer that the board have accepted on my behalf. The 1st was (20a) Rubén (F.Det) (2020) * who went to Ligue 2 Nancy last season for an initial £150,000. He's made his Ligue 2 debut for Nancy, (and even scored a Ligue 2 goal), but he more commonly features for the Reserves. I wouldn't mind losing these players quite so much if I thought I was getting decent value for them. As it is I think they are being stolen. What I really need is someone like PSG to come in and splash £1M+ out on one of them. I don't think that's very likely though. Finances. Although I don't agree with the sales, (or at the very least the deals themselves), I do understand that we have to sell.

Jimbokav1971
Youth Intake 5. Feb 2024. It's no "Golden Generation", but what's in a name or a label. There are 2x 5.0 PA players and that will do me nicely thanks. "Kriss" (24a) Martínez (F.Amb) (2024)*. He's a left winger and we don't use them so the question is where do we re-train him to play? He's more suited to one of the wide attacking roles, (as you would expect), and his "position" attribute rating of 1 suggests that WBL may not be ideal, but that's exactly what I will be trying. We have lots of 5.0 PA striking options, (6 at last count and that doesn't include current 1st choice starting options). As a result I will be re-training him as a WBL, (where I only have 1 prospect). (24b) Teo Giudicelli (Bal) *. Another striker to add to the production line. At the moment he is more suites to a PF role than the AF that I want him to be. I have no idea what makes him a good TM.
Jimbokav1971
5.0 PA players. Feb 2024. We now have 17 players at the club with 5.0 PA. It's a different story when we look at the squads by CA rather than PA. Obviously there is a lot of scope for development and improvement.

Just wondering how you are going on with mentoring so far? Have you managed to raise the determination of players much? Thanks very much. I knew this question was going to be asked before too long. The truth is I have done absolutely nothing with regards to mentoring and there are a few decent reasons for that. I know how it's supposed to work, but certainly with Bilbao in the beta, it actually didn't seem to be working as intended. I noticed early in the save that I was receiving messages saying that such and such a player had.... (I'm not sure of the wording), "benefited from some of the squads positive characteristics". I initially assumed this to be (Det), but when I started to see this message with no green arrow next to the (Det) attribute on the player profile it got me wondering what positive characteristic it was. I had a look to see what my squad personality was and I'm pretty sure it was (F.Pro), although I will have to check. I thought to myself that I obviously liked that, so just left it as is and it always was/is my intention to go back and look at it in more detail once I can work out what is going on. I have just looked at my squad personality now though, (just to check), and our personality is showing at (Pro) rather than (F.Pro). (So that's even more reason to love it alone for a while. Had the squad had negative traits that were influencing players then I might have been more inclined to step in, but as it is...... There seems to be a very distinct and specific divide between the various squads at the club. At Bayonne for example I have Senior, Reserve and U19 squads and these are classed as individual squads as far as squad personality goes, (I think). When I leave a player in the U19's then there is was a reasonable chance that his (Det) would drop, (because the squad had quite poor (Det) on the whole), but I noticed that when these players moved to the Senior squad, then their (Det) often increased. So where as before it was really considered 1 big squad, now it's very much deemed to be a number of individual squads. The biggest reason though is that I'm just getting a little lazy in my old age and while the effort involved in Tutoring was significantly rewarded in previous FM's, I don't actually know how effective mentoring is in FM19 so I'm less keen to put quite so much effort into it. This next picture is taken from a post on page 3 of this thread which was posted on Monday. Edited November 25, 2018 by Jimbokav1971

After the 1st 2 games of the month I was starting to be at least concerned, (if not completely panicked), but I needn't have worried as we won the last 2 games of the month, (each by a single goal), to give us some breathing space between us and the relegation zone. Jimbokav1971
Prize Money. May 2024. With survival confirmed I should really be playing the brightest prospects in the 2 remaining games, but the difference in prize-money for 10th, (which is where we are now), and 13th, (where we could still finish), is a whopping £97,000. That just can't be ignored when the board are accepting offers on my behalf for significantly less than that.

If we have avoided relegation with 2 games to spare this season, we should be comfortable next season with the kids having another season's development under their belts. Reserves & U19's.
