Poor Norma didn't enjoy the last game of pre-season, but we didn't enjoy the Tours FC game either. 

Grenoble and Sannois SG might be at the bottom of the table, but that's not what the pre-season preview predicted.

I should be happy that we are unbeaten in 5 games and ecstatic that we are 2nd in the league, but we should be top. We conceded a 93rd min free-kick against Jura-Sud and that's the reason we are 2nd rather than top.

I've got this weird blind spot with Tours, where I always seem to see them in the National.

I've played in the National at some point in probably every FM for the last decade and I'd swear they're always there with me. But then I checked their actual league record and... they really haven't spent much time there IRL. So are they just really unlucky (or have a vindictive researcher), or am I just imagining that wretched shade of blue following me around wherever I go? Who knows?

Tours. Domestic League history. 

Well in real life they have spent about a decade in Ligue 2, but were relegated last year in real life and are yet to return. 

The top 2 in this League get promoted, (with the 3rd going into a Playoff against a Ligue 2 team. At the moment Tours certainly look like they will be there or thereabouts.

Well for the level, the last screenshot of them didn't look bad.

Probably a good shout, I feel like players are more temperamental in this game, but that could be just my perception.

I think you are correct, (sort of). I think that there are more things that upset players in FM19 compared to FM18. The problem is that I'm quite lazy and I can't be bothered to go through the effort of keeping players happy so I invariably just go for what will give me an easy life.

A 4th goal for our GK is just about the only good news this month as we crashed out of the Cup early, (I would like to say that I played a weakened team but I didn't), and only collected 4 points from a possible 12 in the league.

You know it's weird. At Bilbao I hated the Reserve Team because I had too many players and I didn't know who was whom, but here it's very much my club and most players have a (yyletter) in front of their name and I already have a fair idea of who and what they are. 

Now though, I would love a full set of Reserve fixtures and Youth fixtures.

Lesec (FRA) (Bal) scored his 5th goal of the season, (his 46th career goal), but it was a case of what might have been as we let leads slip against both top of the table USBCO and faltering Grenoble, (we led Grenoble 3-0 at HT).

We deserved the win against the previously superior Vendee Herbiers, but CS Sedan Ardennes absolutely took is to the cleaners.

6th job interview. Dec 2024.

Reims are currently 10th in Ligue 2 and obviously feel that they should be higher as they sacked their manager 5 days ago. 

As usual there is little of interest in the job advert itself. 

The facilities put ours to shame and I can only dream of working with a system like this. 

Haven't they done their due diligence on me?

Gaz Ajaccio are 19th in Ligue 2 and there is already a gap opening between them and safety. 

Again, nothing of any note in the job advert, (apart from that is the whopping wage budget which is 4x that of Reims). Oh! The reason for that is because they are in Ligue 1 rather than Ligue 2. 

As you would expect, significantly better facilities than we have.

Good Junior Coaching is the highest I have seen at the clubs I'be been interviewed at. 

This offer could have legs.

Tours FC seem to be our bogey team at the moment. We beat them 4-1 and 3-0 last season, but this season they have gained revenge with 5-0 and 4-0 wins. FC Chambly-Oise, (no I can't pronounce that name), was a bit of a poor result, but we were away and had just come off a hiding in the previous game. It too a 6th goal of the season by our GK Lesec (FRA) (Bal), (this 47th of his career), to set us back on track, and that 3 points keeps us in the top half of the table.

Feb 2025.

QRM are top of the table so a narrow away loss is not a disaster. From then on we won with a 2 goal margin.

Baudin (FRA) (F.Det) is 33 years old now so he's not going to be around for much longer, but he has made his mark on us and is now the record league appearance holder with 239.

I've recently started looking at the goals we have been conceding as I start to look upwards towards the playoffs or promotion for the 1st time. We have been conceding too many goals in behind and a higher defensive line doesn't fit with Baudin (FRA) (F.Det)'s pace of 4. 

I dropped the defensive line back from higher to lower in an attempt to cover his inadequacies, but this might leave a gap between our midfield and our 2 pressing forwards, so will have to keep an eye on this. 

It's galling that the record league appearance holder for the club is not a product of our Academy. That needs to change and 239 shouldn't be too hard to get. 

Lesec (FRA) (Bal) is on exactly 200 league appearances, but 3 of them were for previous club Pau FC, and in any case, he is neither Basque nor a product of our Academy. 

Romain (BAS) (Bal) HG * is hot on his heels with 198 league appearances, and he is both Basque and a product of our Academy.

In terms of players who came through the Academy under my tenure, 21yo (19b) Aguado (F.Loyal) * is at the top of the list with 154 league appearances. 

He's become a key player for us in a sort of Quarterback DLP(s) role, but his form has taken a dip this season and other than a month out injured, I can't really explain why.

Youth Intake Day 6. Mar 2025.

The words "stands out as one of the better players" are not the words that you want to see on Youth Intake Day. 

Despite that, this intake has has 3x 5.0 PA players which I wasn't expecting given the initial message.

The (Det) level seems pretty decent through this intake. There are only 2 players below 5 (Det) and one of those is a (Merc) winger who I have little use for and the other is an AP who isn't likely to have the quality to make an impact on the Senior Squad. 

Everyone but (25f) and (25k) will be offered youth contracts. By cutting out players with the lowest (Det) levels I should falsely increase the average of (Det) across the board gradually. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't have signed them if they had high potential bit low (Det), (of course I would), but this is a perfect opportunity to not sign them because I don't think they are players that will be missed. 

"Kriss" (25a) Martínez (Bal) (2025) *.

We have 4x 5.0 PA players who are DR's or WBR's, (23g) González (Bal) is a DL, but strength in depth is good as I expect to see the board continuing to sell our brightest prospects. A 7 year gap between 21 year old (19a) Núñez (Bal) (2019) * and 14 year old (25a) Martínez (Bal) (2025) * means that we should have a steady stream of DR's/WBR's coming through the system over the next few years.

(25b) Gork Intxausti (Sport) *.

There are 7x 5.0 PA DM's/MC's at the club now between the ages of 15 and 21. We are going to need many of these because (23a) Aizpurua (Bal) (2023) * is already being trailed by 3 Ligue 2 clubs and if I had to pick the player most likely to be poached then it would be (19b) Aguado (F.Loyal) * so we could possibly lose both of them in up-coming windows.

(25c) Martín García (Real) *.

I don't use left wingers in my tactic, is the question is where I will re-train this guy to play. Finishing of 2 and off the ball of 2 suggest that he will never make it as a striker, but tackling of 2 and positioning of 1 suggest that he isn't ideally suited a DL/WBL role either. Usually I would just use the default option of WBL for an AML and hope that his attacking threat going forward outweighs any defensive limitations he might have. In this case, (add marking into the mix), I think that he might be more suited to a MC role. He certainly isn't going to be a BWM(d), but maybe a DLP(s) is an option for him?

Potential Ability. Mar 2025.

This is all 3 squads filtered by PA and cropped to include just 5.0 PA players. I'm a little bit surprised that we have 30 players at the club with 5.0 PA, but I think that probably says more about the low CA of our best players rather than the high PA of those with most potential.

Of the 30 players above, the highest CA among them is 3.5 CA shared by 3 players. It's only when these players start to reach their PA that we will start to see what the other players are really made of. 

The above picture shows the squad ranked by CA and includes 5 players at 3.5 CA and 1 player at 4.0 CA.

Our goal-scoring GK Lesec (FRA) (Bal) is top of the pile as far as CA is concerned and I'm surprised to see teenager yo (22n) Garrido (F.Pro) there in 2nd place. I must admit that I have over-looked him a little in terms of CA and he is still languishing behind Lubrano (BAS) (Bal) and (19a) Núñez (Bal) (2019) * as far as starting XI selection was concerned. I am going to have to re-evaluate that now. 

Something also of note is that when the AI Ass Man selects squads, he often selects (19a) Núñez (Bal) (2019) * as a MC rather than a WBR. I will have to keep an eye on that and make sure it doesn't continue.

I'm really doing it for 2 reasons. 

1. Just to trigger the achievement. 
2. I want me being in the running for other jobs, to act as a bargaining tool to force my board to agree to send me on training courses for licenses, (my (Det) is very low because I started with no badges), and also to force their hand with regards to the upgrading of Facilities at the club. Unfortunately that isn't an option right now because even if they wanted to, the board just haven;t got the money to spend of things such as this.

In terms of if I will move and where, I think it unlikely that I will move at all and if I ever manager to topple PSG and win in Europe, (that's the ultimate goal however unlikely), then it's more likely that the save will end rather than I move. 

That being said..... if I were to get sacked for example, then I might be inclined to apply for other Basque jobs, (not sure how realistic that is), but we will just have to wait and see.

It looks like a poor month, but in terms of performances at least the 1st 3 games were ok. Vannes OC are up near the top and we were close to a draw away from home, and US Creteil-Lusitanos was a game that we should have at least drawn were it not for a red card. The less said about the Vendee Herbiers game the better.

Potential Ability and Determination. Jul 2025.

You might have noticed the following picture posted a little earlier and in hindsight, there is something that I missed at the time that probably warrants a mention. 

I have 30 players on this list, I've done absolutely no mentoring and all but 3 of the player have a minimum (Det) value of 10. 

That's really surprising. Astonishing actually. We just have a 9, 7 & 6 value out of 30 players. 

(25b) Gork Intxausti (Sport) * was a 9 (Det) but is now (25b) Gork Intxausti (F.Sport) * and has a 10 (Det) attribute rating.

(22c) Pérez (Unamb) * is still at 7 (Det).

(21a) González (Bal) (2021) * is still at 6 (Det). 

I've just had a bit of a cull and have specifically targeted players with low PA and low (Det).

If a player has low PA then they are not going to be able to take the club forward because even without signing anyone, the CA of our best players is going to be constantly improving so a players PA know, (judged against a not very good CA), is going to look even poorer as the better players at the club continue to improve. There is enormous room for growth in the squad. 

Someone else asked previously in the thread, (I think it was @Bigshow1), if I had done much mentoring, and the truth is I have done absolutely none at all, (and I have checked that the Ass man hasn't been doing any either), but I have just noticed something.... unusual when I filtered players by name, (in order to list them in their various intakes and in the order that I initially graded them.

Have a look. This is what i mean. 

Players already at the club. These players were already here when I started the save and some have been key players for us to this stage of the save.

Lesec is out goal-scoring GK.

Romain is our main goal-threat. 

Ballesta and Dubernet have been 2 of our 3 starting centre-backs until recently. 

Gonzalez was a (M.Citizen) personality that I inherited, (absolutely loved that), but he soon changed and is now only (F.Det). I think the reason for that is that his high Professionalism was diluted by the squad influence. 

2019 intake. Now this is where it starts to get a little interesting. 

You can see the names of the players and also an abbreviation of their personality. In some cases this matches and in other cases it doesn't. I left González (BAS) (M.Citizen) * with the (M.Citizen) moniker simply to make it easier to identify him because we had a few different Gonzalez players in the squad. Sometimes I update the nicknames when and if I notice that something has changed. If they start off as 4.5 PA but then pop to 5.0 PA later then I add a * to the end of his name to indicate that he once had 5.0 PA, but I will admit I can't always be bothered to change personality abbreviations when they change. 

Looking specifically at this next picture, notice that there are 4 (F.Pro) players within this group and also notice that only 1 of them was previously named (F.Pro). Now while the squads overall personality had a negative impact on González (BAS) (M.Citizen) * in reducing his (Pro) attribute, it is actually quite high though and has "popped" the (Pro) level of these players we are looking at. I will post another picture below of the 2019 intake when they came through the Academy.

(19a) Núñez (Bal) (2019) * has gone from (F.Amb) to (Bal) and his (Det) has popped from 10 to 13.

(19b) Aguado (F.Loyal) * has gone from (Unamb) to (F.Loyal) and his (Det) has popped from 14 to 16. (His workrate has dropped 1 point though frustratingly).

(19c) Marrero (Unamb) * has gone from (Unamb) to (F.Pro) and his (Det) has popped stayed at 13. (He's had 2 loan periods though so that might have made an impact). 

(19d) Mateo (F.Det) has gone from (F.Det) to (F.Pro) and his (Det) has dropped from 16 to 13. (That's interesting). 

(19i) Zakaria (F.Pro) came through as a (F.Pro) and there has been no change in that respect and his (Det) has dropped from 12 to 11.

(19l) Goñi (Bal) has gone from (Bal) to (F.Pro) and his (Det) has remained at 11. 

(19n) Calvo. (F.Sport) has gone from (F.Sport) to (Bal) and his (Det) has popped from 9 to 11. 

I'm not saying I have all the answers to this and of course there might have been outside factors, but this has happened with absolutely no impact from me, (I have only just done the 1st PA/(Det) cull). It's interesting to look at it in this way and ponder the drivers to this.

This year really stands out in terms of the disparity between the PA of the players on Day 1 after the intake, and the PA of the players 4 and a bit years later. 

It's noticeable that quite a few of the (Det) values have dropped in this group. (-2, 0, -1, -1, +4, -3, +6, +3, -1, -2).

I know that there are occasional instances of outside football influences in the game, (and I have seen a few of these). I wonder if this is the reason for the large increases?

The difference between PA then and PA now is really big. If this was someone else's save and thread then I would be adamant that they must have sold or released their best players and this in turn has caused the level at which other players are being judged against to be lowered, (thus making it appear that their PA is better than it was before). This is my save and my thread though and I can tell you this hasn't happened. I have had 1 centre-half who has retired and I have had 2 high PA youngsters who have been sold against my wishes. Only 1 of these youngsters was already making a senior impact so we really haven't lost many top end players. 

The only personality change within this group was (22b) changing from (Driven) to (F.Det).

Apologies. I forgot to do this before I played the 1st game in September. 

I changed from an attack mentality to a cautious/counter mentality at the beginning of this season and I don't like the effect it has had. We have conceded no less than 13 goals from corners in 5 games, which is a ridiculous 2.6 goals conceded in each game JUST FROM CORNERS. I haven't changed what we are doing defensively at corners so instead what I'm going to try and do is avoid conceding them in the 1st place by reverting from counter to attack.

We changed from counter to attack after the Orleans game and played Le Mans when they were top of the table, then we played Brest when they were top of the table. It's been an improvement, albeit a modest one.

I usually save on the 1st of each month when I post the update, but I've played an extra game by accident for the last 2 months so didn't save for some reason. You would think I would have learned my lesson by now.

Our 2nd goal against FC Chambly-Oise was another scored by Lesec (FRA) (Bal) and was his 50th goal for the club. He's 30 year old now so he won't be around forever, but 50 goals is at least a decent milestone for my 1st GK of this save.

We may have crashed out of the Cup, but it's the Cup so meh! who cares!  We did collect 6 pts from 3 league games and that sees us finish the month in 5th place, just 2 points off the playoffs.

In Jan of this year, FC Metz of Ligue 1 invited me to an interview to discuss the vacant manager position at the club. They didn't appoint me Manager and it could be argued, were relegated as a direct result.

It's 11 months down the line and they are languishing in mid-table in Ligue 2 and have decided that it's time for another change.

Despite the "Headhunted" achievement being triggered, when I look on Steam it still doesn't show. Maybe it will update the next time I restart the game, (although that's not how achievements normally work).
