Match Engine Stuttering - was fine on Beta

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Since updating the game from Beta to the full release version I've noticed the match engine has begun to stutter/lag - I'm on a MacBook Pro.

Here are my settings which worked perfectly on the Beta version:

Any ideas why?

So what has been changed since Beta to full release to cause this?

In another thread, I saw this:

Quote

In the 19.1 update we added a command line option to disable thread optimisation, which has apparently helped with similar lag issues on other games. Go to football manager 2019 on steam, right click and go to properties then 'set launch options'. Put this in "-disable_threading_optimisations".

Other than that, what can I do right now to enjoy this game without the stuttering?

Is this the correct route for the Graphics Log for a Mac? I can't seem to locate it...

Match slowdown/jittery graphics - graphics log (found here: Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2019), DxDiag, PKM, a pre-match Save Game and as much detail as possible as to what your problem is (for instance star rating, graphics quality, what you're seeing in match)

Could you also rename this thread for me please to comply with the forum rules? Technical issue - stevemc

Could anyone help?

Is this another OS Mojave issue?

The only things that changed that I can put my finger on are;

• Going from Beta to Full Release (game worked fine on Beta, now stutters on full release with same settings)

• I upgraded my Mac operating system from OS High Sierra to OS Mojave

So from this, it's either a problem with the OS Mojave update, or something SI have done between Beta & full release?

@Ben Allingham any idea's?

i dont think it is your macbook or some OS update, there are a lot of people having Match Engine problems at the moment, so i think SI did something that caused a lot of problem for game. Check some of the other post with people complaining and you will se that they hardly get any response from the staff on what to do to solve the issue. So i hope that is a sign of devs working their buts of to fix it !

I'm hoping something is sorted in a patch/hotfix as it was fine on Beta!

Has anyone from SI had a look into this stuttering on Mac? I've seen plenty of threads and things to try for PC users, but nothing for Mac!

The lag issue on PC is completely different to this. First thing we usually suggest is removing any custom graphics/kits that you may have installed (moving them out of the graphics folder to your desktop would work too).

I have a variety of graphics packs (faces, kits etc) would this maybe cause the lag? I'm thinking of uninstalling fm 19 and removing the packs

You can move all the packs out to a different location e.g. your desktop then clear your cache to see if that makes a difference.

Tried that, didn't make any difference :(

What happened between Beta (when there was no stuttering) and full release (where it now stutters)?

Can anyone from SI confirm that you've been through the graphics config.log file that I provided above?

I'm really at a loss on this, and it is currently game breaking as I'm not playing the game due to the amount of stuttering on screen - it's so difficult to watch.

You're being defaulted to medium graphics quality here, but your card is low spec. Does the lag happen on low graphics quality too? If not, go to preferences->match and you can change individual graphics settings to find the right balance for your machine.

Intel recently released a driver that specifically looks to improve performance on FM19:

The game runs fine on "low" but there's no way I'm playing the game on those settings as it just looks really poor quality.

As I say, I used the medium settings and it run smooth on Beta, so surely it should also run smooth on the full release game? And that is also what I expect.

I'll try the driver option on your link and report back (I presume it's for mac?), hopefully this sorts the issue, but this is something many people are reporting all over this forum so there is obviously a bigger issue at play here.

Issues reported elsewhere are by no means the same issue that you're seeing. Most of them are on Nvidia cards only, and you don't have one. Your card is low spec so it's likely to have performance issues, but not much changed graphically between beta and release. As I said above go to preferences->match then change individual settings if you don't want to bring everything down to low.

That's my point, I've done that and tweaked the individuals, I've moved a few of the medium settings down to low but it still stutters and it's hard on the eyes.

Although the card is low spec, the Beta didn't stutter, the full release does and as far as I'm aware, I've done nothing different to cause that change?

That link above only looks like it's for PC's.

Just been messing around again, testing various outcomes. Oddly, if I play on the Data Analyst camera angle, there is no stuttering whatsoever?

Having the same issue on a MacBook Pro. Played the Beta perfectly fine on Low Settings but the full game stutters on the same settings.

Using 3D Sideline view.

@Jack Joyce Why would it stutter on only certain camera angles?

Data analyst doesn't move as much as other cameras so it's likely that the issue is just less noticeable but still present.

I know I am bit late with the reply to this thread, but I just started playing FM19 and I had the exact same issue. Even though I have a better graphic chip in my Macbook Pro 2017  I couldn't watch the game without stuttering unless I set everything to 'very low', which of course isn't enjoyable anymore. I didn't have these issues with FM18 so I started looking around and found an answer somewhere mentioning to 'turn off the Retina display'.

I tried it, and what can I say, it works like a charm. I can even run the match on 'high' now without stuttering. Ok, the menus between the matches and basically everything else looks a bit rough on the edges now, but I couldn't care less.

Still strange, that I didn't have to turn off the Retina for FM18. Maybe it is a bug after all?

same problem for me, using MacBook pro 2015.

I didn't have this problem with FM18 or with the FM19 beta, so it's really frustrating.

tried everything, changed to medium and even low graphics, a bit better but still laggy (looks like low fps).

I didn't find the 'turn off the retina display' on the internet so did not try it.

Did you find any solution?

Thanks
