Northernpilgrim
Hi, and welcome to another Northernpilgrim career thread. Unlike previous efforts, this time I need to provide a little explanation as to the inspiration behind my career thread. So who was Amerigo Vespucci? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amerigo_Vespucci and what on earth does this have to do with Football Manager 2019? Manager I've set myself up as a 30 year old Italian with the name of the famous explorer, Amerigo Vespucci, after which North and South America are named. I will begin with no coaching badges, and the minimum level of experience The Challenge The challenge is to win the top division in all playable South American Leagues, as well as the Copa Libertadores, Copa America and the World Cup, the last two of which must be won with a South American national team, can only be won after all the leagues and continental club trophies have been won, but do not have to be won with the same nation, although they can be. The leagues must be won in order of reputation, starting with the lowest, which is the Peruvian Primera Division, and the whole challenge must be completed before Amerigo Vespucci turns 58 (he died aged 57). Below is a full list of the leagues in order, which I'll update as the challenge progresses (I'll hide it to avoid spoiling things) Spoiler The Starting point

Northernpilgrim
Preseason results were perfect
Northernpilgrim
And we made an unbeaten start in the first phase of a complicated Peruvian League structure. I'll try and explain more about it as I go and we're second in the table, but have a game in hand and that Copa Libertadores defeat means we're up against it already
Northernpilgrim
I started my first coaching badge in March and went the entire month unbeaten climbing to the top of my 8 team Torneo de Verano group and I'm third in the Copa Libertadores group after two games
Rikulec
Interesting. Best of luck!
Northernpilgrim
April was a much more wobbly month, with the fixtures coming thick and fast but luckily the two league defeats didn't cost us top spot. Finishing there qualified us for a playoff against the winner of Group A but our Libertadores hopes were over, and we'll have to make do with a place in the Copa Sudamericana

Northernpilgrim
May was a decent month, and we won the two legged Torneo de Verano Final, which means we will take part in the end of season Champions playoffs, as long as we finish in the top eight of the overall table. The season consists of three league stages, the Torneo de Verano, which has just finished, and then an opening stage and a closing stage, in which we play each team once. The winners of the Opening and Closing stages each qualify for the playoff competition (again as long as they're in the overall top 8), and if a team wins all three stages, the playoffs don't happen and that team is the Champion. All of which leaves the Opening Stage table like this and finishing third in the Copa Libertadores groups qualifies you for the Copa Sudamericana
Northernpilgrim
I got my C Licence in June and immediately set about getting my B Licence and the month was perfect on the pitch, with three wins from three before the break for the World Cup which leaves us top of the Opening Stage, with more than a third of the games gone
Northernpilgrim
The World Cup over, league action resumed in July, and we went unbeaten and are top of the table after 11 of the 15 matches in this stage of the season. The way the Peruvian League works, you play each team once in each stage, and the fixtures from the first stage are reversed in the second. This means that we know already we will end the Closing Stage of the season away to Comerciantes

I've never managed in South America before on any edition of FM, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how the various leagues work. If anyone has any pointers or advice relating to the rules in each country, I'd be glad to hear them, as I know some other regular posters have played South America extensively. I'm looking at you @dafuge
Northernpilgrim
August saw us go out of the Copa Sudamericana after a heavy second leg defeat to Newell's, but we ended the Opening Stage unbeaten winning the stage by 6 points. This means we automatically qualify for the final, and will be Champions without the need for a playoff if we win the Closing stage. Here is how the Opening Stage finished

ashton321
Great start @Northernpilgrim The state championships don’t really qualify you for anything I don’t think. To be fair depending on the club you get you could end up in a remote state where there is no other decent teams around
Northernpilgrim
This year's youth intake has three players who I've offered contracts to, although hopefully I won't be around to see them develop

Northernpilgrim
We were unbeaten, but not perfect, in October and those dropped points look costly as we've fallen five points behind, though we do have a game in hand also, during October, I completed my B Licence and immediately set about acquiring an A Licence
Northernpilgrim
Not quite an unbeaten end to the season and that defeat cost us top spot and means the playoffs will happen. Northernpilgrim
As the highest ranked team, I was given the choice of home or away first in the final too, and decided to go the same way as in the semi final, with similarly successful results which means we're Champions of Peru and the overall table shows how dominant we were, with a multitude of clubs suffering points deductions due to the strict rules on playing time for under 20s. I only noticed this during the Closing stage, so started blooding youngsters to ensure I'd meet the rules and avoid a points deduction

Anyway, you've a very interesting premise for this save. Good luck!

I only made it by virtue of fielding a full u20 team and bench in the Comercio game.
Northernpilgrim
No top flight managers lost their jobs in my next country, so I remain at Alianza for now, and here is how preseason went We signed two players a goalkeeper to take some of the load off 41 year old Butron and a striker to add competition for places

Northernpilgrim
We lost the opening game of the month, but responded brilliantly ending February top of our group but I'm not expecting to qualify from our Libertadores group and we've already put a dent in the U20 playing minutes required

Northernpilgrim
Our patchy form continued in April but that was enough to win our Verano group and qualify for a final against Melgar and we still have a chance to progress in the Copa Libertadores too
Northernpilgrim
We managed to beat Melgar in both legs of the final and despite defeat, we qualified from our Copa Libertadores group too
Northernpilgrim
We finished May off by making a perfect start in the Opening Stage which left us second in the table on goal difference from Melgar and making good progress with U20s playing time too

Northernpilgrim
15 minutes ago, rodesire said: Also, don't lower leagues already have monetary incentives for giving debuts to youngsters? In effect yes because of the tribunal system that sets transfer fees for u23s who are out of contract, and the new EPPP system. The more games played, the higher any potential transfer fee. Northernpilgrim
Only three games, but a disappointing June and we're down to 4th, but with a game in hand and our U20 minutes are well on track During June I also finished my Continental C Licence and the board have allowed me to start my B Licence
Northernpilgrim
July wasn't any better and that's reflected in our fall down the league table but we did bank some more U20 minutes
Northernpilgrim
Apart from the Copa Libertadores, August was perfect and saw us win the Opening Stage by 4 points As an added bonus, the note at the bottom of the league table about under 20s playing time has disappeared, meaning we've already met the requirements and aren't at risk of a points deduction. Now to try and win the Closing Stage and render the playoffs redundant. The league season in my next country ends in October, so if the job I want becomes available then, and I can get an interview, I'll go for it. If not, I'll see out the season in Peru and then look at my options.
Northernpilgrim
September was the definition of perfect, with a full set of wins and no goals conceded and so we end the first month of the Closing Stage two points clear at the top, with 9 games to play
