Club of Pioneers: Reviving and Creating History

Recommended Posts

Image result for club of pioneers

Welcome to the Club of Pioneers; a worldwide network of the oldest continuing football clubs. The Club of Pioneers was founded in 2013 by Sheffield FC, the first & oldest football club in the world. The Club of Pioneers aims to discover and connect the world's oldest existing football clubs, to build a global network of like-minded football clubs to promote the importance of football history and the grass roots and amateur game. The Sheffield Football Club Foundation awards the honorary membership within the “Club of Pioneers” to those football clubs, who:

1.Still play football in amateur and/ or professional football competition today.
2. Have constantly existed as a sports organisation since their date of foundation. (exceptions for periods of inactivity due to external reasons, for example war)
3. Are by definition the oldest existing football club of their country, referring to the foundation date of a football team as part of a multi-sport club or as a proper football club, playing to association football rules.
4. Live and support the values of the game: Integrity, Respect, Community.

My aim is to manage each of the above clubs, where possible, in a series of different saves however I will document them all in this thread. Of course I'm going to add my own rule - the club of pioneers are going Youth Only! The aim is to win the top flight league with each team - continental cups can be a bonus.

This should keep me nice and busy throughout FM19 :brock:

Club Overview

3598695d0dc22d73e2b127ecac1b72d2.png

As expected with being the oldest club in Norway, Odd have an illustrious history boasting more cup wins than any other side. However, they have never won the top flight!

Squad

4051279cf1dc38d97d7daafa1eb5944a.png

I've inherited a squad I'm very happy with. Over half of the players are already HG at club and we've got lots of young players with room to grow.

Key Players

9f076614d4922ded5261d37fdd4b0b3f.png

Rossbach is a classy sweeper keeper who will be a very important player for us. Excellent personality for future mentoring.

5d1655b2d9034c0e911e84af1284d1df.png

Berge is a strong, defensively solid centre back which will be excellent for our foundations.

2ddd8e4e81404e2c63bf202892e61aaf.png

Hagen is the captain of our ship. An excellent all rounder and ball player.

787633e010e17d9dd54222d5e1562643.png

Samuelsen is an aggressive, experienced midfielder who I expect to be a good influence on the youngsters around him.

314607a35042fdad6d5c33a0de524502.png

Broberg is our only non-Norwegian and is another player who is well-rounded.

b0254226285a06bf91c3c5cfe0920ffa.png

Bergan is a young centre back who will be looking to learn from Berge and Haggen. I hope, like his name, he can develop into a combination of the two!

a010c76a3d3ef8a1b6f9c647d9b93585.png

Rashani is declared for Kosovo, but's he's Norwegian as well and HG at club. He's our flair player.

Hot Prospects

1ee17ecc90af5176a934c2b4ca72cdc2.png

Njie is a new free signing from Rosenborg and looks set to have a bright future at the club.

3d6db27fe638996d98e06fc33250c5d4.png

Kitolano already looks like a class act for a 16 year old and is my tip to become a star!

6b3e69e1e4d1f9c1fd6c534aea047fba.png

Risa is a recent £300k signing from Koln - yet another great all rounder.

b38b9e8fec74efd64a6e914a4b6286ed.png

He's not quite ready to be a starter, but Delaveris could become a star if developed right.

In a similar mould to Delavaris, Larsen is one for the future if he develops well.

Great idea overall and a great place to start. I had one of my best saves ever in Norway with. Aaslund. Best of luck and following

Love this as a save idea, had no idea that Odds had never won a top flight title, found that shocking. Best of luck, I'm sure you'll have your first leg of this wrapped up fairly quickly.

An unique idea that I can say I haven't seen before on this thread. Only problem with this is the fact that North Shore United won't be able to be promoted to the top division of New Zealand football as the top tier is closed to the lower tiers.

Great idea! Queens Park and Wrexham alone would take me all of FM19...good luck with this, could be a classic :)

I have a long term save in FM2018 playing as St George's in Malta. Up to 2030 now, won the cup a couple times but Valletta are unstoppable in the league (I'm also not the best at FM, I'm sure you could do much better much quicker). Usually finish 2nd or 3rd but currently 1st in the league, 4 points ahead of Valletta and 4 games left. Have to play Valletta next.

Cheers - I've never managed in Norway before so thought it was a good place to start :).

Thanks - hopefully will be changing that fact soon! Their most successful period was between 1900-1930, where there wasn't a proper league structure in Norway just a cup. Best they've ever managed is runners up twice in the 1950s. They do have the record of longest distance headed goal though, 58 meters ;).

Thanks Hawk! That's a shame regarding North Shore United as I didn't realise that....perhaps it would be possible to win the cup which might give entry to OCL? I'm not sure, will have to cross that bridge when I come to it.

Many thanks! Queen's Park youth only will be incredibly frustrating and difficult as I'm sure all my best prospects will get pinched for nothing but I'm gonna try!

The observant of you will have noticed the lack of a youth intake - I'm assuming we don't get one for 2018 so will need to wait til next season for new blood. My aim with this save is to win a European trophy at least!

Very good offer but we haven't got a suitable replacement since our 2nd choice already had a transfer agreed so we have to keep him. We've got two teenage keepers with 1* CA and their PA isn't much better!

I managed in Norway in FM18 and the youth intake is in late January/early February.  So you should have one in 2019.  It's very useful as you get a whole season with your youth players immediately which is pretty rare in FM.

FYI - First Vienna are available in vanilla FM, as long as you holiday the first season.  They pretty much always get promoted.

Great idea for a save btw

Cheers! Yes didn't notice Hoff was ex-Aalesund but he is class! Rossbach may prove difficult to keep hold of long term I reckon.

Ohhh yes you are right! Just had my intake creep up on me on 3rd Feb, brilliant timing. Yeah I've been First Vienna on the youth challenge before - would probably go for them via a new database for something a bit different, plenty of other clubs to choose from for now :brock: Cheers!

Haukvik could become a star player for us, already great attributes for a pressing forward. Borufsen and Tollefsen are also both decent prospects who could get to first team level. Not a bad first intake.

It looks like we're doing okay, but frustratingly our two losses were at home to relegation zone sides Viking and Ranheim. Normality has resumed for Rosenborg who are storming away with the league. We did manage to beat them in the cup however!

Alashkert will be no pushovers, but I feel we should beat them. An exciting tie against Celtic looms in the next round, providing the champions of Latvia don't provide a shock!

This is a cracking idea! Will be following for sure!

Maybe I am being stupid... are Munich 1860 not recognized as the oldest club in Germany? I do not know much historically... just thought judging by their name? I could be completely wrong here though!

A question: Why don't play with Albion, in Uruguay?

I think the team are on Segunda Division or, put a season in holiday, as possible to play with them?

Amazing challenge!

Move on, Odd!

Cheers!

Yeah I thought that myself as well, the 1860 in their title is misleading!

Very good spot, missed them off my list by accident! After getting promoted to the 2nd tier in 2017, they are in a playable league from the start!

Thanks :D

Good luck, and I tell your story in 'Saves and Challenges' on FManager, the brazilian forum on FM. Link here (in Portuguese).

After going out of the CL to Celtic we entered EL qualifying. We scraped past Alashkert for the 2nd time - they must be sick of us - then managed to get a 75th minute goal when 3-0 down to Ludogorets to go through to the groups on away goals! We've been drawn into a very tough group and on paper we should finish rock bottom for sure. Molde and Rosenborg also made the group stages :).

07a09aa52fede11b5bca6e43ea6d9de7.png

Despite our relative success in Europe we've really struggled in the league and we're now midtable. The worst part was losing to bottom placed Ranheim meaning that they got the double over us, embarrassing!!! We're into the semi's of the cup, which might be our only way into European qualifying next season

We won our final game but it wasn't enough to break into the top 3 as they all also won. Lillestrom claimed their first title since 1989!

Domestic Cups

Our Super Cup victory ended as our only trophy this season. We went out in the semi's to eventual winners Haugesund.

We were the Europa League's surprise package, ending up winning the group with the final game spare. We've got a very winnable tie against Viktoria Plzen in the knockouts. Rosenborg also made it to the knockouts and face Sevilla.

Player Stats

2053e4daa41777a938b55b2a80efc2d3.png

Espen Ruud didn't let his rapid physical decline stop him from having a fantastic season. We're still struggling with regular goalscorers - Borven managed 18 as our main striker while no-one else got into double figures. Haukvik banged in goals for the 2nd team but is yet to score in the first team. I'm sure he will improve.

Player of the season Espen Ruud is the first player to retire; there are several others who are really starting to struggle physically now. I hope we get some good defenders in our upcoming intakes!

A decent intake - two potentials stars in Hoff and Hans Ole and a handful of other who could become first teamers.

2323ab09193ccb3862611f1301918517.png

A striker by trade, but I see Hoff as an inside forward for us.

Hans Ole. An honest 6'4 winger . I reckon he could be re-trained nicely as a regista.

Gustavsen is a 'mercenary' who works for the team. Odd combination, but I like him.

Bukholm is fairly versatile...he can play anywhere along the back or up top!
