What's your budget and expectations for a FM save?

Budget of about £700 ideally could go more if needed. Mainly play network games, but my SP normally have about 4 countries.

Hiya all,

Graphics not as important to me - run FM in 2D anyway but speed is most important and needs to be able to run work software such as Photoshop on

In terms of FM I only really normally have 3 or 4 nations loaded most the time

Asus are fine computers - it's a Taiwan company, ranked in Asia's top 10 tech companies. They're something like the 4th largest retailers of computers.

Hi I'm looking for a laptop to play FM at a good speed I use the 3D match engine and I will also be using the laptop for general use and maybe for playing games such as CS:GO. I have found these two laptops and I'm wondering if these will play FM and the 3D engine at a good speed.

Thanks for that, I would prefer something in tablet form though really as I do a lot of travelling laptops are just that little bulky when travelling hand luggage only.

Tablets arent capable of competing even close to a laptop in terms of performance, and for gaming, it's going to be a struggle.. having said that...

The best tablets i've used with desktop like functionality are the Lenovo Yoga 3 pro's .... which is the best of both worlds if not a master of either..

The Yoga's looks like they could do a decent(ish) job, depending on the specific hardware inside; or the Microsoft Surface Pro's. Personally I wouldn't aim lower than that for playing FM with. But both the Yoga and the Surface would probably be considerably more costly - when equipped with the best possible hardware - than a lightweight laptop that could play FM better for cheaper. Portability costs money. That's why laptops' price/performance is worse than desktops, and tablets price/performance are worse than laptops.

Bloatware is something that particularly annoys me, and is one of the reasons why I built my own PC.

I remember returning a Sony Vaio shortly after buying it due to all the rubbish that Sony had deemed fit to install that couldn't be removed.

Are there any manufacturers you'd recommend to either stay clear of or are bloatware friendly? Budget is around £500 or so and usual FM-related needs are important of course ;).

I've read through most of this thread. Some of those links on the first page from 4yrs ago still work lol

I currently have a low-spec Dell and am looking to upgrade to something more suitable.

Apart from FM, I don't really play any other games or need to use the laptop for much more than general browsing so don't really want to fork out more than is necessary.

What I've gathered from reading all these posts about requirements for FM is:

- the processor is the main thing

- 4GB RAM is generally good enough, although 8GB is handy. Any more is unnecessary and, for some reason I couldn't fathom, people laugh if 6BG is suggested ??

- dedicated graphics card is preferred to integrated

£500 seems to be the average price of a lot of the recommended laptops on here, generally due to that being the budget for a lot of people I guess.

I generally don't run too many leagues, although that usually is due to my poor laptop, so an extra few would be nice but not that important.

Budget would be low, perhaps just £300 up front so I could go for that one, although if I used somewhere like QVC or Ideal World (mock it all you want but can be useful) I can pay in instalments and therefore afford maybe £500.

One I found on QVC for £400 was the HP Pavilion 15.6" Windows 10 Laptop with Intel Core i3 8GB Ram & 1TB HDD:

Can you post your budget and what you require from your FM save, like league amounts, if you play 3d, if you prefer journeyman saves or like to play 10 seasons and start over etc.

As you know from reading the threads, each recommendation is based on the person's budget, what they want to get out of their new computer in FM terms, and also on what is available to purchase at that time.

I'm lopking to buy a laptop at the end of the year, i'm going to spend roughly around 800-1000 on one.

these are the main things im going to need

1. I want it to last me for a good few years (6-7)

2. I want it to be fast (i hate waiting for applications to load and for it to start up)

3. I only really play football manager so i want it to be able to run football manager and a very good speed, i also want it to be still be able to run football manager at a good speed in 4-5 years time.

4. largest screen possible

i currently don't play FM in 3d but if they develop the game to a better standard in future then i do want that option, and also my saves can last 6 seasons if not more.

any ideas what i should be looking at?

As you're spending so much on this - I'd like to add that a new range of processors are due out at the start of next year, which means stock now will be cheaper in 6 months time.

Just to note, that it's impossible to know what the game will be like in 4-5 years time, and what hardware is required. For all we know it could go VR - or something like that...

For the money you're spending I'd recommend PC specialist, fantastic builds of computers and highly recommended.

Comes in a little over - but it's pretty damn good.

I play the 5 main leagues and I tend to stay in saves for quite a while with just one club and I will Probs be looking to spend around £500 however I am willing to go more if I can't get good performance from a laptop with £500. I know FM is mostly based on the processor and I'm wondering if the i5 6200U is a good processor for FM as the recommended processor is 2.2Ghz and the i5 processor is only 2.3Ghz.

It's hard to tell. How many subdivisions, size database do you load?

For FM the more leagues and players loaded etc, the more processing that has to be done. The longer you are into a career game the more data there is to process.

The more stress the processor is under the closer to the base speed it will perform, which is 2.3ghz, but under normal conditions it can overclock to 2.8ghz.

This would be good for long career saves - it has an SSD which improves your Booting Up time, and load save of game etc. But won't enhance your day to day in-game experience. However, it has no standalone graphics card - so 3D would be recommended on low quality

More power 2.6ghz - entry level graphics card for 3d matchs - ssd for the same as above

The more things you want to get out of FM - the more expensive it's going to be.

Priortise what's important and structure that around your budget.

If I was you I'd go for one of the PC specialist options.

If you're in the UK and looking at a PCSpecialist build, don't forget to check out the Schenker XMG range of customizable laptops over at mysn.co.uk --- they're the same laptop chassis'es that PCSpecialist use (mostly Clevo, sometimes MSI or Gigabyte barebones), and are configurable in the same fashion. They tend to cost more for the exact same specs, but not always. And if you're in Germany, the same laptops can be found at mysn.de

The Schenker XMG laptops - that are the same base builds as PCSpecialist's builds, and the same as several other vendors offerings around the world, are frequently being reviewed at notebookcheck.net, one of the best sites for everything laptoppy.

If you're not in the UK but like the offerings of PCSpecialist's/MySN's customizable laptops, and wonder where can you get the same where you live? Go http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/clevo-resellers-in-the-european-union-v1.652403/ for a fairly comprehensive list of other Clevo vendors around Europe. It includes a few more UK ones.

I don't think I've ever seen an xmg cheaper than pcspecialist in all my years..

If you find one comparable, I'd love to know as i'm always on the look out for new suppliers.

This list has got seven UK Clevo vendors, including PCSpecialist and Schenker XMG.

Edit: Looks like the 7th UK vendor, Chillblast, is no longer with us.

To be more specific about FM requirements, minimum I'd say would be:

the four major leagues (tend to have 4 divisions in England but only top divisions, sometimes two, in Spain, Italy and Germany), small-medium database (40-50k), generally only use 3D for replays, tend NOT to do journeyman saves and will stick with the same club for a while. Of course, if all these could be improved/increased then great but not a priority.

Only really play FM and am not one of those who has to have loads of other things open or stuff going on in the background.

From the ones I linked to above (and here again below), are they good enough and decent value for money?

I upgraded to fm16, but during a 3d match it would get crazy hot and shut itself down.

I'm now back on fm15, but that's started having the same problem.

So, what is the absolute cheapest lsptop to run fm16, with 3D graphics, large database, maybe 5-10 leagues?

It would be good enough - but what's your budget and what's your expectations in your FM save, leagues run, 3d importance etc.

Like to run a few leagues, normally England down to league 2, Spain, Italy, Germany, France top leagues, then chop and change leagues as I move around
