The processor was definitely not bad on it, but it was a bit of a backwards step, and still pretty pricey for what I was getting. Guest Posted January 29, 2016 Share Posted January 29, 2016 That will easily run 6/7 leagues, 8gb of ram is better than 4 especially as the cost difference is probably minimal & if you can afford it get a decent sized SSD. The laptop I have on order with PC Specialist has a 500gb SSD because is offers speed & weight benefits. Only issue will how you watch the match, a 940m might struggle of with 3D above low settings. Doesn't an SSD only speed things up such as windows booting up and doing background tasks and won't make any difference to FM's speed. SSD ... will help with boot times and loading fm up, but not with general play and processing. If you want a compromise between speed and price, get an SSHD .. which is best of both world really, I love them. Other than that, you can easily breeze through what you are thinking of playing... Like Welshace says, it'll be OK, but it does depend on your expectations. It's extremely difficult to answer what would be "fine" performance. That's the limit I'd say. 3D matches would probably be a no go. It's the i5-4300U 1.90GHz. Recommend set-up gives me England, Germany, Spain, Argentina and Brazil. It comes with the HD 520 integrated gpu, which is superb (equivalent of a 820m dedicated geforce card) and as such can handle fm perfectly fine, as well as modern games on low tbh. If I were you I would look to see if I could get a better deal with a similar machine - but customized - at either pcspecialist.co.uk or mySN.co.uk. (I'm assuming that you are resident in the UK). For the price, you might get something just as good or better, possibly even including a newer generation processor (and DDR4). About the GTX 970M. It is a great card, will play anything on maxed settings or near maxed @ 1920x1080. With a few games - particularly newer games ported from xbox or playstation - the 3GB version may run into slight issues that you won't see with the 6GB version. The drawback with iOS may be that the availability of FM 3rd party "tools" etc. will be lower within the iOS "community" than it is for Windows users. But that is business as usual; the Windows users - and FM gamers using Windows - are more numerous, and so are Windows 3rd party developers/contributors. How well a Apple computer will play FM is determined by the same parameters as any other computer; the strength of the processor, the amount of RAM and to a certain extent, the power of the graphics card or chip. It would barely run fm15 and certainly not fm16. Can certainly suggest other laptops better suited for you if you can provide some info on your budget, needs and if you need to buy from Argos in particular or happy to go elsewhere. Welshace Posted February 4, 2016 Share Posted February 4, 2016 Oh the cpu is vastly better.. there is no comparison really.. The ram is likely of much better quality in the pcspecialist one too. However, the HDD isn't as good, it's standard mechanical drive rather than an sshd combo with the lenovo.. The gpu in the pcspecialist is better also. In FM terms, there is no question the pcspecialist one is better simply due to the cpu, good quality ram and gpu.. is it £100 better? depends if you have the money available readily or not really. Would be looking to run a medium database, 5-6 countries minimum and around 15 or so leagues. Welshace Posted February 4, 2016 Share Posted February 4, 2016 Yeah I like them... sshd's are hybrid drives which while not quite as good as either, it combines both the speed of ssd's and the value for money of traditional mechanical Hdd's .. i like them a lot tbh. Certainly nothing that would run modern games. Well from doing some research it seems to be that the cpu is better than the previous linked laptop. Looking on the HP website at this laptop (http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=9093477#!tab=specs) that says it has an Intel HD 520 card. For FM (in 3D), to load about 4-6 countries and around 15 or so leagues whilst browsing the net that'd be fine surely? If not then for the price range is their anything that you'd recommend?
