New Laptop/PC- Help Needed

Recommended Posts

Of those 3 the one with the 4720HQ CPU and R9 M265X GPU is the best.

The first one is pretty good too - reading the Q&A on the site a staff member indicates it's a 4gb 860m Graphics card - which is slightly better than the raedon.

The real thing to consider here between the two is if you want a 15inch or 17 inch screen.

Both are quite good.

BuryBlade, do you want a new complete tower or upgrade and re-use old parts like your case, HDD, RAM and PSU and buy a new motherboard, CPU and GPU to install yourself?

I would have no idea what I was doing so for convenience sake I would say just a new tower that is pre made and all I have to do is install the OS.

With your quoted budget of £500 and the necessity for 5-6 leagues - 2d matches

Eugene,

Have you any experience of playing FM on a 13.3" screen by any chance or know anybody who does?

Looking to purchase the following and wondered how the layout and graphics would be on a smaller screen?

http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MF839B/A&step=config#

Are the specs for this laptop good enough to let me play large database with multiple leagues loaded and a decent 3D graphic quality?

Any info you can pass on or opinions would be much appreciated Eugene :)

Thanks in advance

No experience - but I don't believe it to be an issue.

3D Graphics will lack as it's not got a dedicated graphics card - you'd have to play on low-med setting.

Thanks Eugene, appreciate the feedback. The graphics would be of a decent standard still surely right? I'm not expecting excellent quality as I know Macbooks are not the ideal gaming computers. Would just like a laptop which can run heavy/fast loads and have a decent 3D capability.

This would do the job surely?

As said - it will run fine on low-med graphics setting.

You'd get more bang for your buck getting a PC.

Hey there,

I´m searching a new laptop (price should be not over 1500 euros) only to play FM. But i often plays with about 150.000 - 200-000 players loaded. Anyone has suggestions?

cheers

Hi guys, my current laptop runs FM14 at half a star and considering FM is the main reason I use the laptop I'd love to be able to run a fast game for once, so am looking to upgrade for FM15. I'm looking to have 8-12 countries loaded, I generally only watch Key Highlights on matches so the 3D system isn't really that important to me.

For reference, my current laptop is a Celeron that runs at 1.10ghz with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive. The ones I'm currently looking at:

Toshiba L70 - i5 dual core processor, Runs at 2.2ghz, 8GB RAM and 1TB hard drive - AMDRadeon R7 M260 graphics card - £420

Toshiba L50D - AMD A8-6410 quad core processor, Runs 2.0ghz, 8GB RAM, and 1TB hard drive - AMDRadeon R5 M230 graphics card - £350

HP Pavilion 15 - AMD A8-7410 APU quad core processor, Runs at 2.2ghz, 8GB RAM, and 1TB hard drive - AMDRadeon HDAMD Radeon R5 Graphics card - £350

HP 17-p000na - AMD a6-6310m quad core processor, Runs at 2.4ghz, 8GB RAM, and a 1TB hard drive - AMD radeon r4 graphics card - £380

Which one do you think would run FM best? Which one is the best value for money? And at an estimate at which star rating do you think the game would run at?

What's important for you

- game speed going day to day quickly

- 3d graphics

- multitasking while playing

- screen size

???

I'd wait until end of Sept - there's new i7 6th gen processors rolling out on the 27th September.

It's fairly overkill for what you've said there, but it will certainly last you a while performance wise...

I'm using a laptop from 6 years ago for gaming currently and it keeps up easily with almost anything I throw at it.. and for a laptop the same spec these days, you could close to half your budget.

TBH just go for it. FM is severely cpu bound. It will run like a dream for many years.

I have a comparable laptop from 3 years ago and FM is still faster then cheap laptops today.

Hi mate. I've got an I7 laptop myself and it flies but the 3d engine is average. It's got a 645m in it.

I'm wondering what the standard graphics card is roughly to play the 3d engine on high settings.

Don't go for a cheap gpu in it. Mine still plays on high. I have the upgrade itch but tech is evolving too slow these years to really justify it.

So im finally getting a new lappy for the imminent release of FM16 and here it is - http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/L70/L75D-A7283

Couple of quick questions i have though for the tech wizards in and around here.

1.How many leagues/nations would i be able to load up to play comfortably thus causing not too much slowness.

2.What would be an ideal setup in terms of what specific countries to play in.

3.What do you think of this computer in general? Decent enough specification?

Thanks for the advice here guys.

Laptop seems good enough, but 1 and 2 are completely subjective. "Not too much slowness" is massively open, and there's no "ideal setup" you can have. All depends where you want to play.

Hi,

I have been looking at getting a new laptop since before FM15. My current one does the job okay but I have the settings low on everything.

Now I've been going back and forwards to PC world and the little bit of knowledge I've gained from all my ''research'' is they're overpriced. So I've spent the last 6-8 months searching online. I cannot afford a top end gaming laptop and my budget is £700 max. Can anybody let me know if the Laptop I've found is as good as I'm likely to get for the price? Or If I can get better for less money? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Has anyone had any experience of playing Football Manager on either the Surface 3 or Surface Pro 3? If so, how does it play?

I am potentially interested in purchasing the Surface Pro 4 that was released yesterday http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msuk/en_GB/pdp/productID.326546100 but am a big fan of football manager so wouldn't want to purchase the device if this wasn't going to be able to run on it? Considering the i5 with either 4GB or 8GB of ram, would 4GB be enough?

To add to this, i prefer to play with 2D matches, have a large database loaded, and have multiple nations selected.

Cheers

How many people are looking at getting new laptops/PCs for the next version? I'm trying to see if I can negotiate an FM fans discount code at work currently.

Does anyone purchase refurbed laptops and are they to be trusted or are they a bit of a false economy?

If so is this one any good:

http://www.crs-uk.biz/refurbished-hp-elitebook-8460p-core-i5-2-5ghz-8gb-ram-1tb-hdd-webcam-windows-8-1.html#.Vh9rzSubpKk

I'm not in need of the latest spec as I really want to get into FM14/15 with only a few divisions and minimal graphics requirements - just struggling to justify spending £500 on something where the majority of use would just be FM....

Thanks

If your looking for a PC/Laptop or accessories try these: www.box.co.uk or www.saveonlaptops.co.uk have some decent deals on usually.

Have recently started offering customers to be able to buy on Finance.

I'm looking for one. Like most people here I have a budget of around £500 and it's mainly for FM

I've posted on r/suggestalaptop , r/footballmanager , they all told me to go here. I'm getting a new laptop , I need it to run fm 16 well , I'm only planning on creating a club in eng conference and sticking with them throughout. Apart from microsoft office , youtube , and internet browsing that's all I need of it. My cap is 300 , I just want it to run well , I don't mind if it's refurbished but it needs warranty. I'm from Ireland but could buy from uk if it's in budget. Can you recommend any specific laptops?

The advantage is a quad core compared to the dual core.

Yes it's a better processor, and if you can afford it then go for it. I don't see anything better for that price.

Yes - but won't be fantastic.

If you OS is 32 bit then it will be ok.

If it's 64 bit I'd look into upgrading the RAM.

Could anybody offer any advice on this machine please?

Need one ASAP as my laptop broke....how well would this run speed wise with numerous leagues loaded. Also how would the graphics look and cope?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys

See the first computer I linked to in my response above (the one for 500)

Okay I've narrowed it down to four laptops. Again all I'm asking is out of these four which is the best value for money and will be able to run football manager 16 effectively. Regardless of the price on Amazon, all of these are 270€ from Tesco except for the Samsung which I would be buying online but is refurbished with only 30 days warranty. I personally would rather buy it new than refurbished especially with it coming from UK and only having 30 days warranty just for the ease of mind but if the value is that substantial to take a risk on it I'd love to know as I could maybe organise a warranty extension.
